Hey everyone, My Laptop (MSI GS65 Stealth 8SE) Specs: i7 - 8750H RTX 2060 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz (1x16GB) 512GB NVMe SSD I bought this laptop in January 2020 and have been using it without any problem whatsoever, until I started gaming on it and have been having a very bad time gaming. I seldom play games so I never noticed the problem, even though I play lighter titles like Valorant, CS:GO, GTA 5 (exceptional, as not a lighter game) etc.. I know as a matter of fact that a Desktop with the same/similar specs as mine will perform way much better, so I thought that this technically is the capacity of my machine. But I realized it was much worse when I found out that my friend who has a Lenovo Yoga C940 with i7-9750H & GTX 1650 is able to get more than 120 FPS in Valorant at max settings. Unfortunately I'm not able to get constant 50+ FPS in Valorant (in-game) but in the main screen I get 100+ FPS whatever the settings maybe, every time I game, there are a lot of stutters and the FPS drops to ~ 30 frequently. I have tried this with and without undervolt, without an undervolt my laptop races to 95c and drops the clockspeed of both my CPU and GPU significantly after sometime, the CPU will run at ~3.0 GHz and GPU drops by a couple of hundred MHz and still run 95c on the CPU and ~85c on the GPU. With an undervolt of -144.5 mV (offset) on both core & cache and locked 3.0 GHz and with a custom curve on GPU, Mem clock locked @ 6500MHz and ~1200 MHz on the core (max), still there has been not much improvement apart from the temperatures which has improved significantly. GTA V is much worse at med-high settings and low population density I get 45+ FPS and drops at times to ~30 FPS and at easy to render scenarios I get ~60 FPS. A couple of days back I used DDU to uninstall the graphics drivers of both Intel and NVIDIA (which was up to date) and installed the Manufacture Provided Drivers from MSI's Website for my laptop and yet no noticeable improvement with or without an undervolt. I've tried various undervolt settings and found -144.5 mV (offset) is much stable for my laptop, better performing than other values and produces less heat as possible. I've some other values for undervolt as well that tend to produce R20 score of 2830 as the highest and usually hits a score around 2790, but doesn't have any improvement in games and generates a lot of heat, so I don't use those values for my undervolt. Especially in Fornite I don't even get 45+ FPS and stutters a lot in lowest settings with or without DLSS (Performance, Quality,..) (Just tried, ) and undervolt. I understand that any decently specced PC for an office environment can run CS:GO at 30 FPS at least in min settings, but mine is worse comparatively I get the bare minimum decent of ~60 FPS or so for a FPS title for such a good gaming laptop as I consider it to be. I tested NFS Payback for a while and it alone is able to bring the CPU utilization to 100% and drops to 95% at times in lower demanding scenes, but the graphics card sits at a decent percentage of utilization around 30%-50%, yet I don't get anything more than 45+ FPS unless I don't drive in-game and rest at a deserted area . I'm sure that the Dedicated RTX 2060 is being used for all the games and not the iGPU by the led indicator turning amber, as well as checking in Afterburner Overlay, and in Task Manager as well . I've also fiddled with NVIDIA Control Panel to force Dedicated graphics card to be used for games. There is no background apps running, no unnecessary software (bloatware), no viruses, etc. and my CPU and GPU utilization never crosses over 60% (together) in the games I play, in Valorant they both sit at 30%-40% on utilization. The BIOS version and Firmware version is up-to-date. (OS Version: Windows 10 - 20H2) P.S: I haven't re-installed a fresh copy of Windows, I'm using the OS (Windows 10 (Home)) that came with the laptop. I understand that running on single channel impacts a lot, but I don't think it would impact this drastically to a state where it's not even playable!! (NOTE: I play all my games with the charger plugged in at all times and the fans in Cooler Boost so as not to Thermal Throttle.) If anybody has any suggestions, solutions, or any help of any sort would be appreciated. Thanks in advance . I've attached all the images reg. ThrottleStop settings, System Summary, GPU Curve,etc.. Please find the attachments for reference.

I'm trying to wrap my head around what's causing these micro-stutters in my game. I can't exactly figure out what may be causing it but I have tried my best, with my limited knowledge, to isolate the cause to no avail. I don't encounter these problems when playing FPS games such as Apex Legends and R6: Siege, however, I did notice similar stutters in other open world games such as AC: Valhalla and The Witcher 3. Things that I have done thus far: *Conduct a clean install of Windows 10, SSD was reformatted for this. *Clean install of the NVidia Drivers *Windows Updates are.. up to date *No anti-virus programs running *XMP Profile 1 activated (which is weird that Userbenchmark flagged it as a concern) *Ran the game on both SSDs, but still get the microstutter. *Ensured that the RAM was slotted as per MOBO manual *No overclocks set *Mobo BIOS updated *Activated Windows' Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling and have placed the games on High Performance Mode *Power option is set at High Performance *NVidia settings have also been set at Prefer Maximum Performance *Followed a guide that recommended I change the BCEDIT Timer Settings to the ff: bcdedit /set useplatformclock no bcdedit /set useplatformtick yes bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes *Unplugged the Kingston SSD as recommended by a forum poster. *Deactivated Windows' Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling. This might be a really stupid question or just my imagination, but I recently noticed that the cooling and the performance of my System have dropped quite a lot. Usually I would just attribute it to the system coming of age, but most parts are barely 4 years old and my RTX 2080 Super just hit the 2 years mark. Now some more details. When I bought my GPU I remember the Temps of both CPU and GPU sitting at around 35-40°C in Idle and never really going over 65-70°C when playing newer Titles in 2K Resolution. I haven't really changed anything since then, my PC has a lot of free space around it so getting air in and out shouldn't be a problem, but now even at Idle both CPU and GPU sit at around 50-55°C. When I hit my System with a load the CPU Temps don't really change too much, however my GPU reaches 85°C quite fast, even in some older Titles like Rainbow Six Siege. I've cleaned the System several times of all Dust as much as possible and even changed the Thermal Paste of my GPU with Arctic MX-4 Thermal Compound, which brought the Temps down about 15°C for almost 2 days, then they jumped back to the usual 50-85°C. I've also tried removing the tempered glass panels of my case to see if poor airflow was the problem but nothing changed. I know ~50°C in Idle is no problem at all, but it bothers me that it's that much higher than before. Further more I am experiencing performance issues I haven't had earlier. Like in the beginning I could play demanding games and still watch high quality videos on my second monitor with absolutely no problems, but now the videos always buffer because there seems to be not enough Vram left for them, even Apps like Spotify struggle to display correctly. Maybe that indeed is normal, but I am sure it hasn't been like that before.

I just bought a rx 480 to replace my aging gtx 660. I am getting good fps on my recent games(Doom, ROTR, Fallout 4, BF1 etc) and the OC seems stable. I fired up crysis 1 just to enjoy the performance differential between the 480 and my old gt 9600 (with this gpu I played crysis back in the day). The fps with 480 seemed way too low and the gpu/cpu utilization was very low too. I reinstalled the 660 and got better fps. Plus with the 660 both the CPU and GPU seems to be hitting 100% utilization. I am seeing the same thing with borderlands 2, getting less than 60 fps sometimes - mostly at 90fps. I have cleaned both nvidia and amd drivers with DDU, installed 17.2.1, 17.3.1 and 17.3.2 drivers after DDU cleaning each. Now I am just sitting here scratching my head. The processor is a i5-4590 btw.

Tried posting this on Tom's hardware, and got no responses. I've decided to try here. (This will be a copy and paste from my Tom's Hardware thread. I really wanna know what's goin' on with my PC.) Okay guys, I've been having this issue for a long time and have tried so many different things to fix it, which didn't work, and it's beginning to get on my nerves. Forum post after forum post and still I have this issue. I honestly don't have hope for this thread, but I'm making it anyway. Long story short, I got a new PC on April 29th 2017 with good specs (about 3-ish months ago), and I get stuttering issues in SOME games (specs will be listed at the end). I'm NOT SURE why, but I do know that it is very annoying. Some games stutter worse than others, and as I mentioned previously, some don't stutter at all. For example, DOOM doesn't stutter at all. Flawless performance. On the other side, Far Cry 3 stutters TERRIBLY. Sometimes the stutter is a whole freeze in and of itself. (when I say FREEZE, I don't mean the game stops responding like windows programs do. I can still hear the audio, but the video just freezes.) Also, I don't know if this means anything, but sometimes when I stutter my fps counter shows my fps drop for a quick second. Anyway, I don't want this thread to be too long, so I'll end it here. I honestly don't even know why I'm typing this. I feel like no one is going to respond, and if they do I feel like this thread will end up like my other threads; left answerless and abandoned. I hope someone can help me AT LEAST figure out what my issue is. (I'm not American, English is not my primary language, excuse any obvious misspellings in my post). Hello everyone, thank you for you're attention. This is my first post here on Linus tech tips forum, and i need help big time. Two day ago i decided to format my HDD and install a fresh copy of windows, because after so many months of installing and unninstalling so many games and programs my computer was a bit slugish. Though this computer was never really that fast, i never had problems playing games and using programs. My Setup: M5A97 LE R2.0 Mother Board AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz Eight-Core Processor (Running Stock speed, with a better Cooler and thermal paste) 2 DD3 4 mb rams Gs Skill Sniper, Running at 1866 MHz GTX 750 Ti HDD Hitachi Sata 1TB 500W Power Suply Problem: After ereasing the windows and old files and installing a fresh copy windows 7 - 64 bit, and the latest drivers i could find in the motherboard website and Nvidia, the computer was worse than bofore, Slow as hell for anything, opening "C:" Slow, opening Chrome Slow, Copying and pasting this very text into a wordpad file Slow and the program got "not responding" for 1 minute then it came back and i saved the file, Opening Calculator 4 seconds to open + 2 seconds to load the buttons, 3 minutes to get me to Windows user select + 4 ~ 5 more minutes till i can actually use it, that with no secondary programs trying to open in the background(everything not essential disabled in MSCONFIG). As i said this computer was never lightning fast, but never this slow. I've managed to install and open a game: After alot of waiting i've managed to install a game and play it for sake of testing, The game is Path of exile, took 5 minutes for the game to open, usually it would open in 30~60 seconds and when i clicked to login the game Froze for more 2 minutes, i got disconnected afterwards, re-opened the game it opened very quickly under 20 segonds, and i played arround for 10 minutes, with some occasional Sttuder of a second here and there but nothing worrying. Print Screen ingame just standing still for comparison ( you can see the FPS and Ping in the right superior corner) Playing, killing things, explosions and Sh*t ( you can see the FPS and Ping in the right superior corner) How were the game specs Things i tried: - Formating the and installing windows 5 times already. - Installing new drivers/ old drivers. - Swaping Sata Cables arround or adding new cables. - Swaping Rams arround (resulted in a Blue Screen while trying to install a game). - After a fresh install, i also installed Advanced system care, and let it run fixing possible errors, defraging registry and fixing this and that, and defraged the whole HDD with smart defrag(it found 4000 fragments FIY), kinda helped a little, but still, it was a fresh windows install for crying out loud. - Copying a 5 GB file from another HDD to this one, to see speeds ( 80~100 Mbs, which is normal, so nothing to see here) - Cleaning the computer and changing the thermal paste of the CPU and GPU. - Downloaded and used Tool for Hitachi HDD to scan for errors ( all clean by the way ). - Loaded Optmal Defaults in BIOS. - Updated BIOS. - Activated Turbo in BIOS. Nothing Worked...obviously. Extra info: - Sometimes the computer Studders for 1~4 seconds. - Sometimes it freezes for 5~15 seconds. - Often a window goes (not responding) and then comes back if i wait for a minute or two. - Computer sits Idle at 20% memory consumption and 0~5 % CPU usage. - My Thermals are all Bellow 70 C°. - For some reason that might not be related, i'm browsing and listening to music on youtube, and the video stops loading and any other page i have stops loading and goes "waiting for cache" for 2 or 3 minutes, even though i'm still talking normally on Discord with my friends, and downloading something on my Mobile Phone, i have Broadband 100 mbps Fiber-optic FIY, i don't know if this could also be related, but it didn't used to happen, disconsider this if it is unrelated to the main problem. Anything else, please ask. But don't ask before reading. This is my only computer and i can't afford to buy a new complete Setup, exchanging 1 ram or a HDD is fine, but having to buy a whole new PC is a big NO NO at the moment. So thank you for reading, i hope you all great minds out there can help me out.

Hi everyone So the problem im facing is that my Forza Horizon 4 game is underperforming. I am getting an average of 52 FPS on 1080P on ultra. I have already tried the following Updated BIOS Updated chipset updated windows updated gpu drivers to latest Reinstalled windows repeated driver updates tried overclocking ram and cpu except gpu( For some odd reason the games crashed when running msi afterburner) but anywho, game is suppose to perform better like the rest of the videos on youtube. no luck as of yet GPU usage fluctuates between 80 to 97 A friend of mine is getting 60 to 80 on high with a gtx 1060 3GB!...while im at 38 in races on ultra.... Hey, i'm using this old Lenovo z470 which is more or less a work laptop. The specs are : i5 2430m 2.5 ghz/ 2.9 turbo (Sandy Bridge) 8 gb ddr3 (cpu-z - 800 Mhz | actual - 1600 Mhz) Geforce GT 540m - OC'd | Core clock 800 Mhz | Mem Clock 1000 Mhz | - Default | 672 Mhz | 900 Mhz | 1 Tb (West. Digital I believe) Hdd I recently switched to windows 7 after having driver issues as my laptop doesn't officially support windows 10. Yes, worthy of having a laugh when it came to gaming but it kept me gaming for a good while [almost finished rise of the tomb raider, yes, playable (save got deleted )] even running GTA V in high settings 60 fps (capped). But where the problem came recently is overwatch. Game ran well too with 60 fps (again, capped) on low/medium settings. Slowly I began to experience micro stutters which would be fixed automatically after playing for a while but then they needed restarts to fix. I thought it was an nvidia control panel issue ( i was also getting input lag) so i fiddled with some settings like vsync, tripple buffering and max pre-rendered frames... then it got worse. I launched the game and it.. was hell. In menus and the whole game, doesn't matter where i am, the game fluctuated between 22 to 34 fps, always. I returned all my settings to default - didn't work, fiddled with the settings - nothing, also went back to default clock speeds - nada. so, what could've gone wrong? Some help would be appreciated, Thanks (Included nvidia control panel settings.)

Hi Forum! I have done quite a bit of searching, but no one seems to have this problem, or even a similar problem. Going to do my best not to ramble. Specs: I built this computer almost two years ago now with; I7 7700K running base clock EVGA GTX 1070 Black Edition @ 110% power limit Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz ram Msi Z270 Gaming pro motherboard 256gb intel 600p nvme m.2 drive SF450 Corsair PSU 80+ Gold Problem: I am getting low and inconsistent frame rates out of my GTX 1070 in games. I will use Rocket League (RL) for this example.I usually run RL upwards of 75fps. I have it capped because my monitor runs at 75hz. Sometimes, and more often more recently, the game will load and I will average a value under that. Usually 30 fps. I have discovered that is I alt+tab and then Tab back into the game the number will change. Sometimes it will 'fix' itself and run higher than 75, other times it will change to another value, like an average of 50 or 20 fps. It does similar thing for a few other games I play and I can't seem to work out the cause. It has been running beautifully until recently, wasn't happening 3 weeks ago. What I have attempted. Removed and re-installed the latest driver from Nvidia (using Geforce experience and without). Uninstalled the Graphics card and re-installed it. Re-seated the graphics card and double checked power connectors. Changed power limit back to 100%. (Lowers the frame rate anyway..) I also have let MSI Afterburner run in the background of a game to check for anomalies (I couldn't see any, cpu, gpu usage and temps look fine, screenshot below). Next steps My next area of attack is running in safe mode disabling all but essential programs and the game and see if there is a difference, if there is then working my way through by cutting the list in half each time till something happens. Theory: While 450W PSU is low for this config, yes, but it is theoretically fine. I don't have much headroom, but I have had no troubles before. This is my main video editing rig and it (usually) powers through games and renders fine. This performance issue also hasn't happened in the almost 2 years I have been running this rig, only in the last 3-2 weeks. My theory is the PSU is dying and as usual. The graphics card is the main symptom. Thoughts or suggestions? Now a recent change I made to the system was enabling G-sync compatible with my 38" acer predator Ultrawide monitor. The issue began happening soon after I turned it off because I was getting black screens for 2-5 seconds at a time during games when it was on. This is all the information I have collected and think is necessary to put in to this post. Thanks for the help in advance forum! You guys are great.

Hello, i am not sure if this is the right category to ask this, if not i apolagize pls tell me where i should ask. I am playing games and having random FPS spikes, for example while playing wow at mid settings from time to time i have frame drops, when i go to the task manager on windows my cpu is at 25-40% and the gpu is around the same, so i tried using HWmonitor and i could see that my cpu got to 100%, but i do not know why, this happens even in places with not many things happening, what makes me believe that i could have some other program that runs time to time in the background, but i cannot find it. Is there any software that allows me to track this in a log so even if i can not see it live can go check later? or if you have other ideias pls share. Thanks ? if it helps in anything here is my system: windows10 CPU:i5 86000k GPU:nvidia GTX 1070TI RAM:16GB SSD: 970 EVO 500GB

Hi! I recently got a problem with my PC. The problem is stuttering and generally worse performance than before. The stuttering occurs mainly when gaming and watching videos on the internet. It all started a couple of months ago, and I didn't change anything major (the only thing I can think about is that I started playing DCS at that time, and that game has crashed hard a quite a lot). I've tried reinstalling windows and formatting my drives, but the problem persists. Another thing is that my CPU usage seems to be all over the place and applications seem to use waaay to much CPU during normal use, see the Task Manager screenshot (this was during a Steam download). The CPU usage is usually at 15-25% during normal use (not gaming). Is this normal? One weird thing I've notices is that the CPU temps don't rise all that much during gaming/stress testing. I've included screenshots from AIDA64. I have a pretty beefy cooler but have not overclocked my CPU (since I'm a newbie and couldn't get it all that stable), but my temps seem a bit low still, don't they? I did also run 3DMark, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary (temp was around 65 degrees). I have no idea what to do/how to fix it (and as you might have noticed, I think it could be the CPU, but I'm not sure). I'm planning on upgrading my CPU, ram, motherboard etc, but as a student I don't have a lot of money so I'll have to wait until summer before being able to upgrade. So is there anything I can do now to make it better? Or is my system simply getting old and can't keep up? So I've recently started trying to stream some gameplay. I'm using RECentral 4 for the recording + streaming and the game I'm currently working with is League of Legends. Typically, I can get around 300fps playing the game at 1440p high settings and I understand that streaming and recording on the same machine that I'm playing on is going to reduce performance, but I don't full understand what is causing that. When I start streaming my fps drops to about 200fps and when I record at the same time my fps drops even further to about 120fps; however, as far as I can tell from my hardware monitors: My RAM usage is at about 11GB/16GB My CPU (i7-6700k) usage is not at 100% on any of the cores MY GPU (GTX 1080) usage is at about 55% So my question is, what is causing the slow down in performance? None of the suspects I would assume are maxed out so I'm not sure if I'm missing a variable and what that might be. I'm recording to an external hard drive through usb 3.0 so I thought that might be an issue but even just streaming without recording the gameplay I still have roughly the same usages across the other variables. Can someone explain what exactly is happening here? Also, I am on Windows 10 and my OS, game, and recording software are all on a 240GB Patriot Blaze SSD

Hi there, So about 3 days ago, I bought the MSI GTX 1660 Ti Gaming X. Everything was fine for the first 2 days, but then today when I launch my Minecraft modpack with shaders, I can barely get 60 FPS when I used to get over 144... Any idea what's causing my GPU to act like this? I launched task manager to see what the GPU is doing. It's on 100% but it doesn't even use half of it's dedicated memory. Any idea what's causing this/how do I fix this? I make videos and stuff so I can't just let this be and accept that my card just got 2 times worse. Thanks.

GPU: 1060 6gb CPU: i7 6700hq BIOS: (if it helps): Quanta QP114, (2016-09-04) Exactly as the title says, I'm getting constant FPS drops and microstutters in every game I play from CS:GO to R6:S. When I tried to identify the cause I couldn't find any whatsoever, the temps were fine, literally no piece of hardware I saw hits 100% usage (that includes each individual thread on the CPU), I don't have an FPS cap enabled on any games and my systems on high performance mode, not power savings. I have absolutely no idea what to do about this, any ideas? I attached an image taken less than a second after a sudden drop to 40fps, note the low temperatures, low hardware utilization and the clock speed of the CPU. Test done in Warframe w/ maxed settings -motion blur. Another interesting thing to note is that it says my GPU is idle in GPU-Z, pretty sure that's not normal during use.

I have noticed in the past month or so while doing long gaming sessions after about an hour or so i get audio popping and severe lag spikes in game. I did a quick google search and downloaded this monitoring tool called latency mon. I saw that all the bars were red and it recommended that i update my bios. I updated my bios, re enabled xmp in the bios and started my pc back up. Ran latency mon again and all the bar's were green. I thought that i had fixed the issue but it seems still after an hour or so of gaming the audio popping and lag spikes come back. I monitor all my temps while gaming, made sure that my cpu profile was on full performance mode and not power saving mode. I have also tried uninstalling and re installing the realtek audio drivers. At this point i have no idea what is causing the lag spikes and audio popping/crackling. I'm pretty sure the audio and lag spikes are a side effect of something else going on. Any suggestions? Also may i add that if i am in the wrong part of the forum i apologize, I'm hoping if that's the case someone will steer me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your time and advice. Then i pulled up msi afterburner and can see my gpu clockspeed hovering at speeds it would be on at idle, the moment the game just loaded it clocks from idle (at 300mhz) to about 600mhz (which gives me a good 200fps at uncapped settings), this is with the max core clock at 1366 mhz for my rx580. The card performs great in more demanding titles like the witcher. Does anyone know a way to make league demand more gpu horses so I hit 144fps constantly. An obvious workaround would be to set the idle speed of my gpu core to ~500mhz, the problem is, i don't know how to do this and don't know how bad this would be for energy consumption. Thanks ps, the card is not thermal throttleing, temperatures hover around 39 °C (102 °F), which also is the temperature I hit on idle at my desktop.

I have a very slow mechanical hard-drive paired with very little ram (4GB DDR2), and the built-in antivirus in Windows decides it's always appropriate to check by disk whatever I want to do. I need something that doesn't flag my development tools on my hard-drive as risk potential.

My laptop is supposed to have an amd gpu but it keeps using intel's intergraded graphics for games and for desktop usage, benchmarks only see the intergraded graphics and its a real problem that causes performance issues. Laptop model: Inspiron 15-3567 Ram: 8gigs ddr4 Cpu: Intel core i5 7th gen Gpu:seen in bios picture

Hello there! I'm an avid PC gamer with little experience and know-how of most PC components and how or why they work, and I've been having issues lately. Okay, so I've recently made a quick decision to buy a Razer Blade laptop and seeing as I love gaming on a larger screen, I went with the 2015 Blade Pro. I've had it for over six months and at first I started to love it, but now I'm beginning to hate it. Sure it's thinner, lighter and more sleek than my four-year-old MSI GT70, but the four year old laptop still runs games better than this system. The Blade seems to run games and processes slow and unstably. For example, when I start up Fallout 4 at THE LOWEST POSSIBLE SETTINGS it runs good at 60 FPS for about 30 seconds before the frame rate drops to less than ten frames per second. The machine won't even run Black Ops 2, another game more than four years old (I think) at a stable thirty frames. I haven't done any modifications to the system but I'm horribly dissapointed with the way my system is running. I can give a list of games that run horribly below. -American Truck Simulator -Banished -Civilization 5 -Every Call of Duty -Every Bethesda game -Spintires -Basically every other game...ever I have the settings for the game processor to the high performance Nvidia processor and I've checked and yes, the 16 gigabytes of RAM are all active. could somebody tell me why it's not running as fast as it should be?

Low GPU usage that doesn't seem to be CPU bottlenecked
alfalfalaffa posted a topic in Graphics Cards
I already posted this to Tom's Hardware but not much came out of it With some exceptions, most games I play don't seem to be running my GPU at its fullest. I cannot figure out whats going on for the life of me. In many games I play they perform fine in parts then in certain areas or events my GPU usage will plummet, and so does the performance. At first I thought it must be my CPU bottle necking my system, but unless I'm missing something that doesn't seem to be the case. In these moments where the performance drops the CPU usage doesn't seem to change, and is almost always nowhere near 100%. It can be anywhere from 20-80% and still happen. Some particularly egregious examples of this is Red Faction Guerilla (plummets to ~30fps with anywhere from 20-35 GPU usage on LOW) and Dirt Rally (~35 fps with 40-50 GPU usage on med-low settings during rallycross). This happens in many other games, but I feel these two are good examples of what's going on. I thought the performance of Dirt Rally could be due to the fact that it's an Early Access game, but I couldn't find any other forum posts out there complaining about similar problems as mine. I've tried nearly everything I can think of, but nothing seems to have have a difference. I'm currently running the latest drivers and have cleanly uninstalled and reinstalled them multiple times, but to no avail. I've fiddled with the settings in Nvidia control panel such as turning on/off v-sync, but that also doesn't make any major difference. I thought it could be from playing games off my slower 7200rpm HDD, so I some to my SSD, which also did not make a difference. I always make sure very few backgound programs are on while I game. There was also a point where I tried overclocking my CPU, but the fps difference was almost negligible (granted, I'm a bit of a noob and I didn't overclock very much). Also my temps all seem to be within reason. The max my GPU reaches is ~70 degrees C (normal for the mini GPU I have) and my CPU seems to max out at ~55 C. What is going on here? Are all of these games just poorly optimized for my system? Is there a problem with my GPU or other components? Is there something obvious that I missed? One final thing I want to add: Occasionally when I'm on my desktop (particularly when I'm in Chrome), my entire system can hang up at random intervals for 30+ seconds where I can't click of activate anything. The only solution is to wait it out until it goes back to normal. I know it could be a stretch, but could this have anything to do with it? I have had this problem since the day I got this machine this summer. Here's my specs: Gigabyte GTX 960 with 2 GB VRAM (the mini version: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=... ) fx-6300 at 3.5 GHz Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 8 GB DDR3 ram Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 600W power supply 120 GB Kingston SSD (as operating system drive) 2 TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD (what I install my games on)-

Help with lackluster performance in games with R9 380
Inquisitor956 posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hello. I am a very frustrated man right now. I recently upgraded from the IGPU on my A10 5800k to a MSI R9 380 4gb GE. I did quite a lot of research on this card and saw a lot of youtube videos and benchmarks of people playing games at 60fps 1080p maxed out. I installed the GPU when it arrived and I was so happy, being able to play The Phantom Pain maxed out at a silky smooth 60 fps and Fallout 4 at mostly Ultra between 45-60fps(don't laugh at me, after years playing games between 25-30 fps at low settings in windowed mode, I almost cried). Next, I decided to install my all-time favorite PC games: Oblivion, Skyrim and Mount & Blade: Warband. This is where I get very frustrated. It doesn't matter what settings I use, I never get a smooth 60fps. I used to get better performance on my IGPU in M&B:W! (I'm neither joking or exaggerating here.) My specs are: CPU: AMD A10 5800k OC to 4.0GHz (Managed to get 4.3GHz but since I'm using a stock cooler, temps were too high) GPU: MSI R9 380 4gb GE Stock: Core-980MHz, Memory-1425MHz (OC: Core-1100MHz, Memory-1600MHz STABLE) RAM: Kingston HyperX Black 4GB Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 PSU: Silverstone ST60F 600w Fully Modular Monitor: Compaq WF 1907 1440x900 There are quite a few people on YouTube showing their Skyrim gameplay with the 380 (both 2gb and 4gb versions) and getting rock-solid 60fps at 1080p with high-res textures and ENBs. I play at 1440x900, no high-res textures(not even the official one), and I almost never go above 45fps. In Oblivion, unless I'm looking at the sky or water, I don't get over 30fps and In M&B, unless I'm doing 10v10 battles, I never go above 40fps. I am new to the GPU world as I've always been using integrated graphics, so I never had to deal with overclocking a GPU or anything of the sort. I just had to turn down settings until the games were playable. Here you can see Pure GPU playing Oblivion smoothly. I use the same settings as he does (everything but the resolution, I don't use VSR, and AA) It is a R9 285, but the 380 is just a re-brand of that card, so my performance SHOULD be similar to that. And over here I created a playlist of my performance in both Skyrim and Oblivion. I apologize for the quality of the videos. You may have to zoom in a bit on the Afterburner OSD. I tried going back to stock settings on both CPU and GPU, reinstalling drivers, removing mods, installing performance mods... I have included screen captures of both MSI Afterburner and Radeon Crimson settings, GPU-Z and CPU-Z so maybe some of you can spot something(I have heard about Crimson having some issues, but this has all happened before it. I just updated to Crimson today). Also, I disabled ULPS and enabled Force Constant Voltage in Afterburner as was recommended to me and that improved my performance in Oblivion slightly. As I said, I can play TPP at 60fps, maxed out, Fallout 4 between 45-60fps with mostly ultra settings, Attila: Total War at mostly 60fps on High. I am guessing it is one of these scenarios that are giving me these issues: 1- My CPU is not being utilized correctly. (It is also possible that single-core performance is causing it, since AMD's performance is not as good as Intel's, especially when my CPU is outdated, but as I have had no issues with modern games with it, I'm not planning to upgrade anytime soon unless absolutely necessary.) 2- My GPU is thermal throttling (even if it never gets above 70c with load, and the only game that pushes both my CPU and GPU is Fallout 4, and it is a very smooth experience in that game for me) 3- My GPU down-clocking is causing these issues.(I believe this to be the culprit, since even though I OCd it to 1100MHz the core never reaches 900MHz in the game as seen in the images below. I have no idea if this is normal, as I stated above, I'm new to GPUs) Also, I apologize if I posted in the wrong section. -
I don`t know if i`m the only one with this issue, but if anyone knows / has this issue or knows how to fix it, please post here. For some reason it seems like gta 5 enjoys playing on a single Gpu rather than crossfire. This shows extremely well when i play, since i get better performance on a single gpu, rather than my regular crossfire configuration. I get 60-75 fps in the city at noon, at night i get 70-80, but when i run with crossfire i get 45-55 fps at noon, and 50-60 at night. Again i don`t know if it is just me, or gta 5 hating crossfire, but any insight would help. some extra information: I run Gta 5 at 1920x1080 with everything set on ultra except the advanced options and MSAA.

I bought the premium edition of battlefield 4 on sale a few days ago and have been having some issues with it. A few minutes into every game i join, it turns into a slideshow. Fraps doesn't work in bf4 for some reason so i can't tell you the exact fps figures. I tried every fix in the following link- http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2390044/battlefield-fps-drop-stuttering-lag-fix.html (except for step 4) which seemed to work at first, but when i fired up the game the next day it was back to square one. I also noticed that the game only uses between 1 and 2.5 gigs of ram in the task manager even when i launch the 64 bit version of the thing. My specs are as follows- FX-6300@stock R9-270 OC'd to 1ghz 2x4GB Kingston hyper-x blu 1600mhz asus m5a97 le r2.0 1tb of storage (HDD) NOTE- I'm running the latest version of catalyst (15.4) and i use mantle as the default API in-game; along with a combination of high and ultra settings running and 1366x768.
