I'm setting up a real chill PC for my just to browse the web an such. I used spare components such as an old ASUS Z-170A I had laying around but when i tried to use a spare Intel i5 6600k i had in that MoBo setup it had a bent corner and wasn't booting up turning rhe MemOK redlight ON (ps. ram sticks are totally fine). I bought this Pentium CPU to use instead. It seems to start up just fine, no error lights in the board, but the screen never shows any menu. I've read that having used the motherboard with a GPU in the past could be making weird things with it.

Need help making a really crappy old laptop faster. It's an Acer Swift 1 SF113-31 (released in July 2017) with a Pentium N4200 processor and Intel HD 505 GPU... you can probably see where this is going. 4GB of RAM. Currently running W10 (64-bit). I ran Cinebench R23 (multi-core) and got 677 points @ 12 celsius - I was too scared to run single-core because it would probably get too hot lmao Anyway, need some tips on how to speed up this thing (I don't expect much). Ideas?

I just sat down to clean off all the thermal grease from CPUs I've been collecting from scraping old hardware. It's kind of wild seeing it all laid out like this. Some interesting ones here. Mostly xeons. Uploading for entertainment value. I'll provide a detailed list of what they all are once they're clean enough to tell. Most of these were pulled from multi CPU servers. If you're interested I'll show the buckets of RAM as well. What kind of interesting collections do you have?

Hi, I was building a NAS out of old parts recently and while testing components I noticed something a little weird. The Kaby Lake Pentium G4600 is drawing only 18W maximum when hit with prime95 stresstest, CPU usage is 100%, clock speed is 3600Mhz, everything normal so far. I also hit it simultaneously with furmark to stress the iGPU but max power draw only rose to 21W. Is this normal behavior? It seems so low to me. I used a Arctic freezer 34 CPU cooler and the max temp was 41°C. I just wonder if this is to be expected or if something is faulty. Haven't worked on Intel systems in 10 years. Thx Philipp

I have an old PC with specs like: CPU: Pentium Dual-Core E5500 2.8GHz (totally unlocked and overclockable, tested) Motherboard: G41MT-S2 rev. 1.3 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 2x2GB, 1333MHz GPU: Intel G41 Express Chipset PSU: 300W When I open Task Manager and other programs that shows speed of RAM, it is only 400MHz. I runned a user-benchmark and faced with that: RAM- performing below than expected.Make sure XMP is enabled. I looked into BIOS and in my case XMP or DOCP doesn't exist. On my motherboard I have 2 RAM slots and it is marked as 1333 on motherboard. My motherboard is LGA775 I started to think if my CPU or Motherboard is causing low speed, that's why Im here. Do anyone have an idea ?

With this build, any game will be playable. Upgrading would be possible. The included hybrid drive makes the system overall more pleasant to use with increased boot times similar to of an SSD but without the hefty price tag of one. With no upgrade however, this build can last you 1-2 years fairly well.

CONTEXT: So, moving out of my mums - she still needs a PC, these were the beginnings of the Coppaq. I'd made a few PCs before. But I'd never got the chance to go mad and do all the dumb stuff I've always wanted, namely: - passive cooling - retro (CRT oc, etc.) - SSHDs in RAID (yeah bad idea lol) Right (love you Trout), so, here goes it. As for rules, eBay only, no budget, and it has to run CSGO at 800x600. I spent like £600 on this garbage. SPECS: - first i3 4160T, second i5 4570T, lastly Pentium G3258 delided at 4.2ghz under a NoFan cr80-eh - 8gb of low profile black ram with copper heatsinks added - RX460 4GB on Phanteks vertical gpu mount liquid metal-ed (because why not) under a Zalman zf100 with the fan ripped off - Firstly a MSI H81M-E33 but messed up my bios (by not resetting b4 flashing) so won't OC anymore, so secondly I upgraded to Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H (ooh more orange) 3D printed backplate coming from Spain. - Yesico (Yes, that's a brand) 420w fully passive non-modular partially sleeved PSU (FL-420ATX), 20 to 24 pin mobo adapter and 4pin cpu in an 8pin works fine - Coolermaster Wavemaster (I dremelled the PCIs off uwotm8) - NZXT Hue set to CPU temp in case and marquee behind the front panel - Currently 4x SSHDs in Win10 parity + 1 for disk (all short stroked) soon to be 6x Seagate 500/8gb SSHDs, 5x in hardware raid because when it fills up it's balls speed - AKASA Ultraquiet clear/amber-clear fans (off) soon to be on aircraft switches on a front panel for summer PERIPHERALS: - Compaq 7500 CRT (OC'd to a whopping 88hz, will do 120 for a few minutes eh? EH?) - Compaq keyboard & mouse (gonna try to install roccat internals) - Time speakers are actually fantastic - Logitech ball webcam - Philips SHP2500s w/ modmic GALLERY:

I need some help here guys cause any info I'm finding seems to be conflicting. I bought a HP Pro 3500 at a auction for 50$ figured it had a pcix16 in it so I would just take my old HiS HD 7970 and a new psu, slap it together and give my little bro a decent starter pc. Problem is the pc won't see the gpu in the slot and the gpu fans only spin for a second on boot and then just stop on boot. Ive tried a bunch of things but I'm just at my wit's end here and need some better help. (I've updated to win10 uefi, I've tested the gpu in my rig, the psu is brand new evga 450 watt, I've updated the mobo bios to v8.?.?, And I've made sure that the pci slot is enabled in the bios.) What am I missing here

I have been trying to resurrect an old Toshiba Satelite T130-11H for basic web browsing. It originally shipped with Windows 7 64 bit, Pentium SU2700, 3GB RAM and a 5400RPM HDD. It ran astoundingly well and had good battery life for many years. Upgrading it to WIndows 10 after first release decreased performance but it was not terrible or unusable. In the past 18 months it did become unusable and has since been replaced by the user. I assumed the HDD had gone bad so I recently put a Samsung 860 EVO in it along with 8GB RAM. It is better than it was but still not running as well as it did with Windows 10 when it was initially installed with the old HDD. Presumably that is because Windows 10 has moved on since it was first released. I was wondering what, if anything can be done to improve performance with this single core 1.3GHz 10 watt CPU. I have installed SSDs in older laptops before even with SATA II and the boot times were vastly better than this Toshiba. Overall responsivenes is quite poor once it boots but it has moments of normality. CPU usage at idle is around 22% and of course anything causes it to spike to specifically 93% CPU usage (never 100%). I acknowledge this CPU should not be used and is on par with the terrible Intel Atoms of that era but there is still a use case for this laptop for basic tasks with its decent battery life (6 hours). No one is intending to game on it or do anything complicated. If not I will be forced to use a bulky HP G5000 with C2D T7400 and dead battery. I have installed most drivers for Windows 7, maximised the space on the SSD for page filing but performance improves very slightly. All this machine really needs to be capable of is browsing the web and loading web pages no more complicated than youtube playing a 720p video but it needs to run a secure up to date OS. What can be done to strip down CPU usage in Windows 10? Is it worth running Windows 10 32 bit to help the CPU? Buy a new computer is not an option ... yet.

Heyho lovely Forum, before I'm writing anything more I have to say sorry if didn't understood all I'm not a native english speeker I apologise. okay let's start with my big issue I bought a Pentium G3258 for 10$ used and It got never OC'd. I managed to OC it to 4,5ghz with a Z97N Gaming 5 from Gigabyte at 1.444V, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz G.Skill Trident X. Cooler Master 212X, Be Quiete 500W PSU 80+ Bronce can't tell the exzact model number but its an older model, GTX970 Gaming G edition and my lovely iiyama Prolite XB3270QS 32Inch WQHD Monitor. I swaped out my main CPU (Xeon E3 1231 v3) to have a fun time while oc and while that my bad time began. I began to have such a bad time while booting. I'm getting when I'm shutting down the pc Black screens and I have to Reset the Cmos battery to manage it to boot. The Xeon which officialy supports DDR3 1600 can't boot with 1600 I have to Downgrade it to 1333mhz to have it booted and even on 1333 I have to Clear the Cmos battery to get a boot. I wrote with some people who helped me already but don't know the issue or they are out off idea. The last advise I've got was to make a Thread in this forum. Things I already done which didn't helped : - Memtest86 - try to boot with @stock speed - Checking dead pins - Bios updating - Checking of Damaged condensators If you have any more Advice or help I appreciate it Greeting

so i this 10 yr old desktop with an e2180(2core 2.00GHz) and it is always at 100%cpu usage even when i have just one chrome tab open. but my sister has a 1 yr old laptop with an i3-4030u(2 cores 1.9GHz) so why is it that although my e2180 has the same no. of cores and a higher clock speed, my desktop is much much slower?

I have a G4560 with a Z270 motherboard (I will upgrade to 7700k in some months) I noticed that the motherboard lets me change the cpu voltage Will there be a difference in performance if i change it to 1.15Volts for example because at stock settings i get max temp of 54C at full load and i dont mind a little bit of extra heat

If I go for the G4560 I have the chance to buy a RX470 (currently on sale) which is a great combo for gaming. I play ranging from eSports games (LoL) to AAA/GPU demanding games. This all sounds pretty great but I've read that AVX isn't supported by the 7th Gen Pentiums which apparently plays a big part in rendering. If I went for the i3, I'll have to stick with a GTX 1050, not as good for gaming as the RX470 but it would kind of get the job done (would have to obviously lower the quality a lot). I would be rendering around 5-15 minute videos, but it all depends so max 30minutes. I've also read that AMD GPU's are great for edtiting/rendering due to OpenCL, which is also in Nvidia cards but not as evolved. Is there a big difference? I was waiting for Ryzen but sadly the R3, line of Ryzen that would interest me is only going to be released on the 2H and I've already got half of my parts laying around collecting dust and I don't have the ability to wait for half a year. This build would probably be upgraded in 5-6 years as a whole(GPU,RAM,STORAGE), the CPU in maybe 2 years, after two summers of part-times since I need to start saving up for college. Thanks in advance to whoever answers!

I was planning on buying a g4560 on amazon soon but I have noticed that it literally isn't there anymore at least on the US website. I can't find it anywhere on amazons website. Can anyone shed some light on why this happened? Does anyone know when they are back in stock?
