Budget (including currency): 5000€ Country: Slovenia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Coding, 3D Rendering, Encoding, Video-editing, VFX, Streaming, Gaming Other details I have all the peripherals I need, I'm looking for getting a pc that would be able to last me with my needs for a few years, the goal is playing 1440p with at least 144Hz however, being an fps player, anything above 144fps is much appreciated. For productivity sake I require lots of RAM and a beefy gpu. Another thing that is very important to me is a LOT of IO - usb c, usb a, etc. as well as a lot of pcie lanes because I own an elgato 4k60pro and the cam link pro which in addition to those two devices I would like to have another slot free. Due to needing to operate with lots of NDI sources a 10gbit ethernet port would be very handy (either one that comes with a motherboard or by buying a pcie network card) The purchase of parts is planned to be starting in about 1 week. I would prefer that the build is air cooled, since my job sometimes requires me to move the pc and I would hate to have to deal with checking wether my fittings were still tight or god forbid a spill happens. I do not care about the outside look however you can always go with a little swag. Since Slovenia is in the EU, I can easily order from other EU countries. In order to help here is a list of stores that are known amongst my pears to be reputable and have okay prices: - https://www.computeruniverse.net/en - https://www.caseking.de/ https://www.mindfactory.de/ https://www.mlacom.si/ and ofcourse the .de and .it versions of amazon. I would much appreciate your help in planing the build. Thank you (also bear in mind the purchase will be done via a company so it should come out a lil cheaper after the tax bonuses)

I've decided I want to build a PC that will run Windows XP 32bit and I want to use the most powerful officially supported components that still have high compatibility. I plan to pick up a quality CRT monitor for this build and a future Windows 98 build I'd like to do, so the GPU should support analog output in some capacity but I believe all cards prior to Pascal support analog output. Not sure about AMD side though. So far I'm thinking Intel i7 3770k on a Z77 platform with an Nvidia GTX 780ti. I'm not super familiar with any memory limitation intricacies Windows XP 32bit has and I see mixed information from random forums that can date back to 2001. I have questions like: "Can I have 4gb RAM and also have a 3GB video card?" "Can I have more than 4GB physical RAM and have Windows only use 4GB on boot so it's seamless with no compatibility issues? If so, how would I get dual channel to work if the kit is say, 2x4GB or 2x8GB?" "What are the maximum storage device size limitations?" I've already considered the GTX 690 and decided against it because I'm not sure about SLI stability in general (cool card tho). I'm aware that technically the GTX 980ti and Titan X are supported on XP with a minor driver edit, but I don't want to pay current gpu prices for those cards and it's not technically "out of the box supported" so they don't follow my "officially supported" theme i have going on. let me know if I'm missing any other potential GPU contenders. I'll come right out and say it, I'm not really sure if the i7 3770k is the absolute endgame CPU for this build. I'm really just looking for best single core performance here. And I guess this is where my research ended and I hopped on this forum. I've been researching for 3 days now very inefficiently. I'd really like to see a list of motherboards and chipsets that support XP but somehow haven't found any online. Also interested in any pc case suggestions, thinking of getting like an early to mid 2000s period accurate case or something but I don't know any off hand. I'm 24 years old and always played with PCs growing up but I never really got into PCs until 2016 so there's a lot of hardware history I missed completely.

Hi together, I just want to share my recent wc loop upgrade with you. My previous build log can you see here: I used a plate heat exchanger to connect a second cooling loop to improve the cooling capacity. I used insulated soft tubing to connect the secondary side of the pwt to a Mo-Ra 3 360 in our unheated, but insulated attic. Now the water temperature stays at ambient, or 1°C above when playing Cyberpunk 2077 and the system puling aroung 400 - 450 W power. I'm planning to cool my PC and the room it is in with some underground geothermal collectors for the next summer :D.

O.K., I'm trying to do some, let's just say intense VR gaming, and apparently adding 2 or 3 3090's is a terrible idea. (See, "Is 3 GPU's a good idea?) How do I get more power than a 3090, assuming all my software is working great, and I, don't know, hired Ubisoft's best optimizers for my Beat Sabre. Strctly hardware improvements.

This is a new build that I am going to need help with. I have deep pockets and I am planning to make a new build that will be used for rendering heavy loads and heavy gaming. I am in design and need a powerful computer. I have decided the cpu and gpu, (Threadripper Pro 3955WX and Invidia RTX 3090) and need some help finding a motherboard for both. I am only going to get one 3090 so i only need one slot for that. Once I have found a motherboard I will work on getting the other parts. Could I please get some advice for parts please? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm building a new PC in a few months once I've saved up enough money in my new job, and want to build a completely overkill PC, which I've wanted to do since I was around 10 (I'm 21 now). I've posted this question to r/buildapc, but never get a straight answer. All I want to know, is whether or not the PSU is powerful enough, the RAM is ideal, and whether there are any compatibility issues that I should look out for. If there are any incompatibilities or changes I could make that would squeeze any more performance out of the rig, please let me know! I will mainly be using this build for gaming, video editing, streaming, and potentially 3D rendering to add flair to videos in a 'TheRussianBadger' style. Parts that I don't really want to change (unless there's compatibility issues): GPU AiO Monitors Mouse Case OS Parts I already have: Thermal Paste https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/VgJkZw

Hi guys, I'm planning to build a gaming desktop, but I don't know if it the CPU is too overkill. My PC Specs: $4000 SGD Build CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor CPU COOLER: Cooler Master MASTERAIR MA620M 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler MOTHERBOARD: ASRock X570 PRO4 AM4 AMD X570 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard Memory/Ram: G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-16GTZN SSD: Corsair Force MP600 M.2 2280 500gb PCI-Express Gen 4.0 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2tb GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Gaming X Trio Case: Cooler Master MasterBox MB520 ARGB ATX Mid Tower Case PSU: CoolerMaster V850 Monitor: MSI OPTIX MAG271CQR 27.0" Curved WQHD 2560x1440 144 Hz Monitor I'm probably going for a casual gaming, and editing, I'm thinking if the CPU is a overkill for the Graphics cards. Thank you.

Is my planned build ok, or should I revise the parts?
Autz posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
If this build seems overkill, then that's because it is. Parts- AMD Ryzen 1700X ASUS CROSSHAIR VI HERO Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3000MHz Geforce GTX 1080 TI And those parts equal about $2100 after adding in the liquid cooler, storage, case, power supply, Windows 10, and the case fans. These are the main questions that I have for this build, and I hope they will be answered. Should I try and keep the price down by using a 1700 instead of a 1700X? Should I switch to an Intel processor instead of using RYZEN? Should I ditch getting the 1080 TI and wait until NVIDIA releases the 1180 graphics card? Any reasonable recommendations are appreciated.- 5 replies

At a military symposium, Gen David Perkins stated that a US ally used a $3 million Patriot Missile to take out a $200 Quadcopter. Understandably, terrorists and what not are using these cheap quadcopters as weapons, however, to put it lightly, this is a case of serious overkill. Even the general points out that the economics of using these missiles to take out quadcopters is horrendous. Still, have to admit that the quadcopter never saw it's demise coming. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-39277940 EDIT: Techspot Article http://www.techspot.com/news/68534-us-allies-have-used-patriot-missiles-shoot-down.html In this article they do mention at least some of the techniques people are looking at for drone removal other than overkill...

So... Overkill really is the middle name of this build. But that happens when you win a giveaway! I won this via a PCPartpicker/MSi sponsored giveaway and couldn't be happier. Total cost of this build was beyond reckoning in CAD. Ergo, out of my inevitable budget dreams. So winning this (seriously, $0 spent) was like winning the silicon lottery x1000. Apologies, don't own a DSLR. Heck, don't even own a non phone based camera. So the list of parts shown before you breaks down as such; i7-6850K, MSi X99 Gaming Titanium, Kingston HyperX Predator 480GB M.2 SSD, 64GB Team Dark DDR4-2400, MSi GTX 1080 8GB Gaming, Corsair H100i V2, Phanteks P400S White Windowed, Seasonic Snow Silent 750W Platinum PSU, Asus MX299Q 29.0" 2560x1080 60hz, EagleTec KG011 Mechanical KB, and the Corsair M65 Pro RGB. A dream machine Silver/White/Red setup. Part Shots Now the interesting part. I have taken my good fortune into account, and as such have since relinquished this machine of the 1080 in trade for a multitude of components to build my Bro-In-Law his own machine. The 1080 will be replaced by a G10/H55 cooled MSi R9 290, and the remainder of the parts (i5-6400, Z170 Mobo, Sapphire R9 290) will be used in his system. For me, honestly the whole machine is so overkill I feel bad for owning it. I have very little that actually utilizes the potential of this machine, therefore "downgrading" myself gives me no concern if it makes another happy. Hope you enjoy reading/viewing and best of luck to the rest of the builders out there! Final Shots

So I was looking to make a overkill NAS of somewhere close to 16TB in Raid 0 (Ballin and risky but its what I want.) It will run some linux distro which I'll figure out later but I was wondering the following; 1. RAM requried for 16tb ext4 share 2. PSU (for 8x2tb drives) 3. HBA card suggestions (Just hba, no raid features needed.)

My mother has been looking to get a new PC and is tired of getting prebuilts that are expensive and become too slow in a few years and fail. I thought I'd take a crack at custom building a rig for her, which she agreed would be a good way to ensure she gets what she needs. Her current PC is the Dell Studio XPS 9100, still running Windows 7. She has come to fear inevitable hard drive and SSD failures because almost all of her previous computers and even some recent laptops have had drive failures (I kid you not, she kills drives just by looking at them). Because she is a freelancer working from home, when failures occur they are major setbacks, and as such, reliability is a priority. Speed and the ability to multitask is also very important, because at any time she most likely has 7-8 windows of ~10 tabs each open in both Chrome and Firefox (with plenty of flash components and other resource-intensive elements), multiple Word docs, several images open in Gimp, and occasionally other workloads such as video editing (no gaming, though). Any performance problems can become major problems as she is often on a very tight timetable a lot of the time (in addition to her business, she does a lot of volunteer work for several non-profits and is on the board of directors for multiple organizations). To put it simply, her current PC struggles when she's away from the computer, and practically dies when she's using it. In general, she prefers to keep her computer for as long as possible, because transitioning can be rather difficult and she doesn't usually have the time to consider other options. As such, the build needs to be able to last for several years and be able to handle newer software and more intensive tasks. Swapping hardware as it gets incrementally better is also a goal for the future, in order to make sure it stays updated without having to get a whole new build. When it comes to budget, there is only a sanity limit. This build should be overkill, but not insanely overkill, and overkill for the workload. Here is what I quickly picked out on PCPartPicker: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NJ8CVY Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NJ8CVY/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Xeon E5-1620 V3 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($295.69 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($24.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI X99A Raider ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($172.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Crucial 16GB (4 x 4GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory ($183.98 @ Directron) ---> (Seems like a lot, but again, needs to be overkill for future workloads) Memory: Crucial 16GB (4 x 4GB) Registered DDR4-2133 Memory ($183.98 @ Directron) Storage: Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($246.98 @ NCIX US) ---> (System/Apps disk, needs to be as fast as possible) Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($269.62 @ NCIX US) ---> (These three in RAID 5 as a 2TB data disk) Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($269.62 @ NCIX US) Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($269.62 @ NCIX US) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GAMING X Video Card ($249.99 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Define XL R2 (Black Pearl) ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: SeaSonic PRIME 750W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($164.69 @ SuperBiiz) Total: $2452.02 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-04-25 23:49 EDT-0400 I am also looking to put the WD SSDs into RAID 5 in order to allow for failures (I could also get another one and do RAID 6, but that might be too much), but I'm not sure which RAID controller to get, so if anyone has any suggestions, please include them. I chose several server-oriented components like a Xeon and ECC RAM, again because of reliability, high uptime, and generally good performance, but if you don't think this is the way to go, please suggest alternatives. At the moment, this is very open to modification, and some of the components I chose likely aren't the best for what she wants (I'm unsure about the GPU and PSU, for instance, and I feel like the motherboard might be overkill). Looks really don't matter, as this will always be fairly out of sight. When it comes to monitors, she very much likes large touchscreens, so looking for suggestions for that, too.

So I was wondering what would happen if a lot of HDDs were connected in a RAID 0 and were to be used as RAM for a computer. A RAID 0 should increase the read/write speeds of the drives so it should be able to match some DDR3 speeds with about 50 drives. I know it is ridiculous overkill but in concept would it work? would a software or hardware RAID be needed? I think it would need to be connected with multiple thunderbolt 3 cables to start to match RAM speeds. This is my first post, so I hope i'm doing it in the right place.

Hi guys. I have biiiiiig struggle...cant make decision, Long story short: Im enthusiastic DIY pc builder. I paint, mod and do all kinds of nonsense to my pc. Currently I run 4930k at 4.4ghz at 1.37. EVGA FTW 1070. 4 drives, 6 case fans, and etc. Z79 Deluxe ASUS motherboard. +Corsair CX750m powersupply. Cooling: Currently it is cooled by CM 412 slim air cooler (painted matt black). Before it was cooled by CM nepton240m (restored after my friend broke the tubes, I replaced those with 4mm thick silicon tubes). Got tired of refilling this bastard every month. This all is fit into core 1500 (fractal design case) YES it is mATX. YES I managed to fit ATX board in mATX case. Well I had my stupid reasons (cuz I wanted to take my pc as hand luggage in airplane) plus Im paranoid, both cpu and gpu are forced to stay under 65 degrees. Cuz I CAN thats why ATTENTION!!!!!!! I need overkill, biggest and most badass Air cooler. that will fit in there performance - first acooustics? would be great if it was quiet I also considered custom loop, maybe EK Kit, but I would prefer overkill air cooler. Or if you manage to convince me (being paranoid as possible) that watercooling is safe and I wont mess up my system (I got brain and able to follow instructions carefully in assembling watercooling loop)

Hello all (again), I am looking to build a new gaming PC for myself as a first time build. As an avid computer fan, and as currently studying Computer Science, I would like to take the leap into computer building, and in turn get a better product as a result for my money. I will be taking advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, so builds can go over budget slightly. My current build is as follows:http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/jjHg3F I know it is total overkill for my needs, but I hope to take this PC almost as is to university for my studies, and so it must last a long time before needing to be upgraded. On a side note: I would like to use a Samsung 950 PRO M.2 512GB stick, but have yet to find a red and black mobo that supports x4 M.2 capabilities. If possible, could you guys recommend some options for me? ? Once again, thank you all so much. You guys are awesome! Jacko1222

I wanted to make a cool build so I came up with this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/y2hkwV planing to build a PC when the 1080ti comes out so how overkill is it for the screen?
