So I was looking for the best Desktop Environment for gaming and came across two different windowing systems. Which would be better performance wise and stability wise? I am gonna be gaming on it so I would appreciate if there is minimal screen tearing. Also what is the compositor? Should I disable it?

Hello, I'm trying to install windows 10 to my old pc, but I'm stuck at the "loading" screen right after choosing whether I want to install windows 64 bit or 32. I tried running Linus Mint from my USB and it worked, but I hadn't tried installing it to the pc itself to see if the same thing happens, but yeah. I updated the bios, took the cmos battery out then back in. I'm quite lost actually. I haven't tried reseating hardware yet, but do let me know if I should do so and any other steps that may be relevant. Advance thanks to any helpers. Specs is i5 7500 gtx 1060 b250 pro4 Using old hdds for this build from 2016 and older, that actually do work and that's all that should matter?

I'm trying to install windows 10 to an old pc I had from 2016, specs being i5-7400 and a gtx 1060ti. The old ssd died and now I'm trying to install the OS on an HDD (we're tryna cheap out) from a USB, but as seen in the photo it's stuck there for a while now. It's the very beginning, right after choosing whether the 32 or 64 bit. Is it just taking long? This is like the very beginning, no text has been seen

So I was trying to organize my contact by making "group or list" then I realized that my contact stored in different email. iCloud, gmail and all gmail. I try to sync but it does nothing and when I am trying to delete a synced email it warned me that the contact also deleted. Is there anyway to merge everything into iCloud?

The problem: After I used GParted to format my drive, suddenly nothing wants to boot. The BIOS key doesn’t seem to work, only the BIOS POST key (so the keyboard works, and it does respond to the input), but that only gets to listing the specs. I have already tried removing the CMOS battery, unplugging the drives, only leaving a USB drive with SystemRescue on it, but nothing boots. Also, when I just leave it to boot, it just stalls on the ASUS logo forever. Specs: Motherboard: Asus P8B-C/4L REV 2.0 CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1240 v2 3.4GHz RAM: 2x Hynix 8GB DDR3 1600MHz UDIMM ECC PSU: Chieftec Smart 400W Storage: 4x WD RED 2TB 1x Crucial MX500 250GB

Hi all, At university, I have access to a PC with a GPU. I am allowed to use at as long as I dont interface with the storage on that PC or install anything. I want to use it for gaming. I was thinking if it was possible to use an external drive to boot an OS and use the installed GPU and peripherals for gaming. For context the PC has a RTX3080 installed. For gaming I will be using Steam and EPIC. If externally booting is an option what are the things that I should keep in mind before trying that since that PC has a lot of important data regarding research projects.

My iPhone 6S from 2015 got seven major versions of iOS from iOS 9 to iOS 15, and still, to this day 8 years later, regularly receives security updates from Apple. The same is true for my iPad Air 2. Which Android phones have great long-term software support? I’m asking about phones that has a great track record historically, so Google’s claims about 7 years of updates in the future doesn’t count since Mr. Pichai breaks promises more rapidly than cheeseburgers are consumed at McDonald’s.

I bought a new ssd and installed a os not yet activated win10 home. *Kingston 960gb ssd 2.5 since its a new storage i download new drive for it and for my gpu the amd andrenaline. download a few games. but within along i notice that windows virus scan was prompted that something is trying to gain access so it blocked it. then the pc comes to slow or shows error or shutdown or bsod. i tried every cmd command from: -sfc /scannow -dism -chkdsk with either /f /r and another -attributes disk clear readonly cause it seems write protected, i did 3 clean install or format of the ssd all still leading to the same either problem. but another thing is that before i used a hdd no problem. installed another os and games, played a few on aother hdd no problem (did not download amd andrenaline cause amdrss is showing im afraid). im guessing its the ssd but it could be just trojan or something else im not looking up to. i hope to get some insight but ill keep trying but if it doesnt work for the 5th or 6th i might considered using a warranty on it if it covers it. specs : i5 9400 ram: 2x8gb hyperx beast 3200mhz at 2666 only since it cannot run 3200 mb: b365m ds3h gigabyte psu: 80+ bronze fsp something

I recently added a 1tb M.2 ssd to my build, and I want to use it as my boot drive instead of my old 250gb ssd. What would be the best method to make the new drive my boot drive? I am using Windows 10. The new drive hasn't been formatted yet, and I would be fine if I need to wipe any drives to make my new drive my boot drive.

Hi, My Raspberry Pi OS failed. I need to recover lost data. Are there built-in recovery mechanisms or tools in Raspberry Pi OS to assist with data recovery? Are there third-party data recovery tools or software that can be used to retrieve data from a failed Raspberry Pi OS installation? Will be grateful for any help.

I have been trying to identify an issue for the last two weeks with a PC I have put together made up of second hand parts. Essentially every time I install an OS there is various errors that stop the installation, If I insert a working drive with an OS installed into the PC it crashes/ blue screens etc. This happens in windows and ubuntu. I will leave below my troubleshooting steps to help with providing advice, but I am currently thinking it is a Motherboard/PSU issue (which seems very strange but the only justifiable explanation) PC Specs: i5 8th Gen CPU MSI B360m PRO-VDH Motherboard 8gb DDR4 Corsir memory (Unsure of the exact name) Created a Ubuntu installation media, when running installation it freezes, errors or took over 12 hours and therefore I cancelled the installation. Re created installation media with a different USB stick, same issues occurred Changed drive that I was installing it to, same issues Tried installing Windows 10, this crashes and froze during installation Failed when trying to install Debian Installed Ubuntu onto the drive using my gaming PC Plugged the bootable drive into the 'newly built PC' This caused Ubuntu to crash in the desktop environment. Firefox wouldnt launch and would error. Terminal would fail to start etc. Eventually it wouldnt boot into the OS and would launch in Emergency mode. Changed RAM stick to a known working one. Made no difference Flashed back the Motherboard BIOS to 3 different versions. This just created different issues such as Ram not being recognized in 2 out of 4 of the slots Took back the i5 back and swapped it for a i7. This stopped the RAM issue where it wasnt recognised but still booting into Emergency mode Tried wiping the drive again and resetting the BIOS, then installing Ubuntu onto an empty drive. This saw the same problems with crashed and errored installations This started to make me certain there is a motherboard issue Removed the motherboard and put in another older Motherboard CPU and Ram, that i had laying around This motherboard also started to suffer from the same issues of crashing whilst booting or installing I then started to believe the PSU was at fault, as two separate boards and components were suffering the same symtoms when hooked up to the PSU. So I took another PSU and plugged it into the older Motherboard CPU and Ram, just to confirm it wasnt two faulty boards. Which it wasnt Emptied the PC Case, hooked back up my i7 8th Gen, 8gb DDR4 and the same MSI B360m PRO-VDH Motherboard, however I used a different power supply, after this everything was running perfectly. Ubuntu installed within 5 minutes and I could start setting up my device and installing software etc. (COUDLNT BE HAPPIER!!!) After 3-4 hours of getting the machine up and running finally and assuming there was a power supply fault, the issues started to come back.... Since the issues came back the 'newly' swapped out PSU that was working is also not working and when i use it in another machine it causes the same kind of performance and reliability issues the original PSU seemed to be causing. I have now tested the PSU and the 12v Pins on the 24 pin connector are reading as 11.4v through my multimeter. My working theory currently, that I want opinions on, is that the motherboard has a fault that is killing my power supplies? This issue has been driving me mad for two weeks now and I would appreciate any help or advise. As I say above I am fairly confident in my troubleshooting that I have a fault with a PSU, I now think that it is the B360m motherboard that is causing power supplies to fail. I have a new motherboard on the way, but annoyingly I need to buy a new PSU as well because I currently dont have one that doesn't cause my machine to fail

I recently got a second NVMe for very cheap, currently have a 1TB SN850 for game storage and im looking to upgrade to a sabrent rocket 4-plus g 2tb as space is getting low fast with game sizing constantly on the rise. The cheap drive I picked up is a 500GB WD Blue sn 570. My main question is at what point does drive speed produce diminishing returns for OS storage and boot, should i wait until i get the new Sabrent and repurpose my sn850 (7000mbps) for os storage and boot or just swap OS over now and work off the WD Blue (3500mbps). Will the extra speed from the SN850 be noticeable? (Also motherboard has 3 NVMe slots so all 3 will be used in some way, side question, does this split bandwidth between NVMe slots and is it worth using all 3 slots in this scenario? If so NVMe can be repurposed to a second build. Motherboard is MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk)

Spec MSI B360M PRO-VDH 8gb Ram i5 8th gen I have been battling with a PC I have recently built to get it to install any operating system. Initally I thought I had a bad version of Ubuntu. I since have tried new boot media as well as windows 10 and debian. Every installation freezes or spits out a number of random errors. I instead plugged the SSD into my PC and installed Ubuntu through my PCs motherboard and ram etc. Then hooked it back up to my 'newly' built machine, this loaded up and then launch Ubuntu in emergency mode. I am baffled as to what the issue is. Is my motherboard screwed? It was second hand but my friend that gave it to me never experienced these issues. Another thing to mention when i tried installing windows 10 i got vertical orange an white lines all over the screen on boot. Is someone able to give me some guidance on this. I have been trying to get this work every night for the last week!

I was messing with my pc trying to fix a different issue and now its unable to load into windows. It stops at the splash screen and then stays there. So far I have seen it stay there for upwards of an hour, and when I turn the pc off, lights seem to stay on. I am unsure what the issue is. Specs: Aorus B550 pro motherboard RX 580 sapphire pulse GPU AMD 3600 cpu 16 gigs of memory i am not that good at troubleshooting, so try and be as descriptive as possible when explaining things!

I have an Acer Aspire One 722-C6Ckk notebook running an AMD C60 cpu with 2GB DDR3 Memory. I want to turn it into a home NAS server. But, since this is an x86 architecture cpu, I don't know which NAS OS can run on it. I've only ever use Windows, so i have no idea how to use FreeBSD or Linux based OS. Though I've checked the requirements for TrueNAS CORE and SCALE, they all need a 64 bit cpu and at least 8GB RAM. I don't have any particular OS in mind that I want to run. Anything that can run on my notebook as a server OS is ok with me. I'm not ever sure that if it is even possible to turn my notebook into a NAS! The hardware is more than 10 years old now. Now, if it is possible, which OS can I use to turn this old notebook into a NAS? Also, if I'm able to turn my notebook into a NAS, will Jellybean run on a 32 bit cpu? Or will I have to run PLEX? Thanks.

Hello all, I'm having something of an odd issue with the system I just built. I typically put my system to sleep after usage so I don't have to log into all my applications again when I return. The issue I'm experiencing is that when I wake the PC from sleep via USB, wake timer, or using the power button the lights on the graphics card and all the fans turn on like it should, but the displays don't turn on or act as though there is a video source. Any USB devices appear such as the light on the mouse coming on but things like my headphones don't indicate they have connected to the dongle. What I find the most confusing is that the PC will stay on in this configuration for ~8min before shutting with nothing in Event Viewer which I think suggests the OS not even loading. Since building the PC I haven't had a single crash, freeze, or hick-up in usage. This sleep problem is the only problem I've had. Here is what I've tried so far: Using Integrated Graphics Disabling Integrated Graphics Trying different monitors and USB devices. Setting Sleep and Display off settings to Never Turned off all power saving options in Bios and Windows Disabling fast startup Disabling hybrid sleep Disabling hard drive sleep Turning PCI Express power management state off Updating the Bios from 7D75v10 > 7D75v15 > 7D75v16 >7D75v172(Beta version) Enabling EXPO profile for the memory with frequency and speed matching memory I bought. Changing wake mode from BIOS to OS Clean install of Windows 10 Clean Install of Windows 11 Clean Install back to Windows 10 Updating all drivers to the most recent Using different outlet and UPS Re-seating CPU. At this point I'm stumped, been a fan of LTT for a long time and hope the community may be able to help me with this issue. Went afk for a while and came back to a "operating system not found, try removing devices that do not contain a os" screen, re-started my pc removing the external HDD and it booted just fine. Skip to me running the disk scans and checking checking the health of SSD and hdd, SSD was at 69% health and hdd showed as "good" so I went ahead and did a cmd check disk schedule for repairing any corrupted files. As I restarted the pc, it went ahead with the C drive scan but got stuck at 16% for 5mins and then displayed a blue screen which I have attached below, Restarting again now doesn't boot up the windows anymore but displays the bios with SSD nowhere to be found. I had a situation similar to this ~3 yrs back, where it was a faulty psu that bricked my ssd, I replaced both and everything was fine, I have been seeing usual readings in my intel xtu which displays -3.7Ghz or +22Ghz sometimes, thought it was a faulty error and uninstalled xtu entirely. What are my options now ? Thanks for any feedback.

hay all need suggestion/help i finally managed to scrape enough money to finish my server (bought 2 8tb hdd's). I am building my server in an old HAF case with an i5 or i7 (cant remember exactly which) 16gb ram and my new hdd's plus a 100gb ssd boot drive. I want to have a storage server a plex server and if possible a minecraft/feed the beast server(heavily modded but for local play only) it has to automatically use the 2nd hdd has a redundent backup and if possible backup to pcloud servers. i need access to it from anywhere in the world/country but if its uploaded to pcloud that might not be a problem. as its mostly going to be photos and videos I need to be able to see thumbnails of at least the photos. About the plex side of things its mostly old cartoon DVD's i have copied or intend to copy as well as a few old DVD's I have if the server can rip the DVD's that would be extremely helpful. the files are for long term storage and are accessed rarely. also I want to create dvd/Blu-ray copy of certain folders for an extra level of backup redundancy (though I could probably do that on my main pc) I have 0 firmilularity with the different os's for nas's but am starting to understand Linux, all be it, still a noob (run steam deck desktop as my daily driver) anyway any advice suggestions would be appreciated. kurzon p.s. eventually I want to create an offsite family based backup as I'm setting up a nas for my retiring parents and something that would be cool is to have a had auto backed up there just in case. p.s.s. never trust Microsoft with your data they screwed me over so trying to do this without need of internet or subscription(where possible) p.s.s.s. I'm just looking into docker containers if that affects anything
