Hey all, first post hope I can get some guidance! I've recently built my first desktop and I'm incredibly happy with the result. PC booted on the first try and when I left it to sleep all seemed well. In the morning I began a Windows 10 download which froze on a black screen with half a spinning wheel. Despite what I knew about shutdowns during downloads after about three hours I figured I had no other option. After a few days of troubleshooting I've manage to boot and had some success using the computer. However, it no without fail hard freezes after 10-30 seconds upon entering the desktop. Ive checked my connections, turned it on and off, and the only thing that resets the freeze is a full shutdown (which will start a new one upon launch). After so much troubleshooting I'm a little at the end of my rope and have no clue where to start fixing. Any suggestions? Specs: Intel I7 12700k 3.6 Bequiet darkrockpro CPU cooler MSI B760 LGA 1700 motherboard (which flashes every warning light briefly upon launch I'm not sure if this is normal) Corsair vengeance 32gb ddr5-5200 CL40 Samsung pro 990 m.2 2tb-2280 PCIE 4.0 x NVME SSD ASUS TUF GeForce rtx 4070 12gb Corsair gold 850watt modular 6 case fans and an Nzxt H5 flow Thanks for the help!

I got a new pc yesterday, built it, booted up, installed drivers, i thought it was fixed but today it did it again, i tried a new monitor and it did it too, i did some research online and didn't find anything. Hello, I have recently built my first PC and atfirst everything was going swimmingly. I downloaded all the drivers i thought i needed but in device management i found that the GPU wasnt being detected properly and upon googling i found some advice saying that i may need to manually download and install the latest BIOS update for my motherboard. I found that there was a more recent version of the bios to download so i downloaded it and installed it using ASUS EZ installer. The installation completed as expected but upon the automatic restart no gpu is detected (Motherboard indicator for VGA lit). I then decided i would try the BIOS flashback feature so I downloaded an earlier motherboard BIOS and let that install but it has still not resolved the issue. Have i broken my motherboard or GPU? if not how can i fix this? I apologise for my lack of ability and knowlege in advance. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5800x mobo: ROG Strix b550-a gaming GPU: GTX 980

Budget (including currency): up to 1500€ (cca 1700usd) Country: Slovenia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: World of Warcraft, Streaming, Video editing Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I've been gaming on a Asus Laptop for the last few years, havent had a Desktop since cca 2010. So im upgrading from i5-5200U, Geforce 920M, only 2X 500GB HDD with 2x4GB Ram... Below is what I was planning to use for my 1st Build (I do assume all parts will cost me 20-40% more than stated below). I would love to buy a Rtx 3070 instead but at the moment it's impossible to get them anywhere near MSRP. Also would prefer to stick to Intel CPUs (unless AMDs would be a lot better in a price/performance sense) and ofc I need a lot of RBGs. I also want 2x Monitors, but those are not included in this budget, but I will appreciate any helpful ideas, since I haven't done any research yet. Plan on buying the first few parts this month and the rest near the holidays. New to the forum and new to the world of PC building/gaming as well. I have been watching LTT for a long time and have been a long time subscriber to the channel. After all these years I think its finally time to start considering building my own PC for gaming purposes. I have always been a console gamer due to the easy plug and play nature of it. I have to admit PC building is an extremely stressful and daunting task for me to think about. While I have been a long time viewer of the channel I still prefer to gather as much info as possible before making large monetary decisions. So here I am, The goal of this post is to get some basic advice from people who are much smarter than I am regarding some basic info. I just want to be able to play games like Apex Legends at 4K 60fps. I want to know where I should sink the most money into. I know the graphics card is important, as well as CPU. Researching these parts is extremely overwhelming and I wanted to come here to see if anyone could shed some light as to where I should start. Thank you guys for your time and assistance to a noob who knows next to nothing about PC gaming.

Hey everyone, I'm new to PC building and looking to purchase some custom cables from CableMod for a build I'm planning on doing, and am a bit confused with which cables I need for the GPU. I am planning on using the Gigabyte Vision RTX 3060 Ti OC (image of power connectors below), and the site offers 2 cables which appeal to me: "Bridged 6+8 Pin PCI-E" & "Bridged 8+6 PCI-E" Which one would I need to purchase, as they both seem the same, yet different? I've attached an image of the power connectors on the GPU for reference Thanks in advance for the help, and sorry if this is a really dumb question

Can someone explain to me pcie bandwidth? As I currently understand it, different generations take up different lanes, but there are some things that i'm having trouble understanding. For example, I assumed that my nvme 4.0 x4 drive was not working due to my gpu using all the pcie bandwidth (My gpu's has a pcie x16 bus). Am I completely off the mark in this assumption?

Budget (including currency): around $1600 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GTA, Hogwarts Legacy, Minecraft, CSGO Other details Im looking to build my first PC because I hear it's cheaper in the long run and think it might be fun to learn. I would like to have an i7-12700k or something similar around same price and a GPU that can run these games, maybe geforce 3060ti or 3070? I only need DDR4 with like 16 gigs of ram because its purely for gaming. Not sure what other specs I need that can work with this, all the MOBOs I found that can work with intel cpu are pretty expensive. Any advice is appreciated!

Budget (including currency): $3000-$4000 USD Country: United States of America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: High end/AAA games, FPS, BRs, Programming, Blender, Digital art, Vtubing, Streaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I've been considering finally getting a gaming desktop, and have been looking far and wide trying to understand the world of PC gaming and how builds/parts go together. I was planning on getting a pre-built from Ironside, as I've heard good things about them, though I am allowed to pick and choose the parts. Figured I'd list what I was planning to get as there are much more knowledgeable enthusiasts out there. CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900x (12 core) CPU Cooling: Asetek 670LS High Performance Liquid Cooling (240mm Radiator) [Would really like to have liquid cooling] Motherboard: AMD X670 Chipset RAM: Kingstone Fury Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000 Storage: Kingston NV2 1TB NVMe M.2 (I plan to add a Crucial MX500 2.5-Inch SSD from my old computer into it) GPU GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB PSU: 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold (Doesn't seem to list the brand) Case: Phanteks Evolv X - Satin Black [RGB] [Tempered Glass] A goal I'd like to achieve is to play 1440p with at least 144Hz on two monitors. This build comes out to $3,550 before taxes on the site, which is within my range, though I'd like to hear if this is a good decision, if this is overkill, etc. Please bear with me as this is my first step into this level of PC gaming and computer building, I appreciate any and all feedback! Link to the build viewable on Ironside's website: https://ironsidecomputers.com/product-save/pUGbA

I'm going to be building a new pc. I've been buying components gradually over the past few weeks because I'm poor and can't buy everything all at once. The main uses for this computer will be gaming, recording and editing. I used to do video editing on a 400 dell laptop so anything is an upgrade. So far I have a corsair 100r case (windowed), msi b250 pc mate motherboard, corsair vengeance 8gb (2x4) ram, and an i5 6500 cpu. I'd like to not spend more than 70 on a hard drive. Should I get a wd black 1tb, or blue 2tb? What's the best power supply type/brand? I want a gforce gxt 1060, should I get the 3gb or the 6gb? And other advice is appreciated! Soundcards, capture cards, ect? Thanks all, Cleedus777

Newbie here. Need some help with first build!
Mike Peirano posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi everyone, First of all, i'm new at linustechtips and english isn't my primary language, so sorry for bad english. My primary concerns are: *Is the wraith cooler enough to OC ryzen 5 1600 at 4.0? *Is this mobo appropriate to OC ryzen 5 1600 at 4.0? *Why the following GTX 1080 is so cheap compared to others? I'm planning to purchase everything I need in USA and bring it to my country. I will buy the case at my country since I won't be able to bring it from USA. *Ryzen 5 1600 *Stock cooler (wraith) *Mobo MSI b350 tomahawk artic or similar (like gaming plus), *Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Windforce OC GV-N1080WF3OC-8GD (I'm considering this one since right now is at $509.99 in Amazon, makes more sense than any GTX 1070 ) or the Vega 64 once it's tested in real day to day use. *Corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (2x8gb) ddr4 3200 MHz white (since in theory it can work with this mobo at 3200 MHz according to msi page). *Crucial mx300 525 GB SSD. *Fenvi Desktop WiFi 2.4G/5G & Bluetooth 4.0 300Mbps Module (anybody know if this works with a 5.8Ghz band WiFi?) Secondary concerns: *I'm not in love with AMD neither Intel, so I encourage you to tell me which one should i go for a budget of $1000 with similar specs from above and same performance. *Is there any mobo under $100 that supports up to 250gb of nvme? *What performance should I expect for triple a games at ultra in 1080p and 4k from this build? Any suggestions in general are welcome. Please help and thanks!- 8 replies
