Some basic info before i begin: Phone: Moto X Style/Pure on android 5.1.1 It is rooted, but no custom roms are installed. So basically what happened was I dropped by phone, then all of a sudden the on screen (Hoime, Back and App History) buttons started to become unresponsive. I have restarted so many time just to exit an app. Firstly my basic and short term solution was to install a 3rd party on screen button app from the play store, this would put a second set of on screen buttons above the stock on screen buttons. But before this I noticed that the on screen buttons actually worked when rotated so that instead of being on the bottom of the screen they would be on top. The on screen buttons also work when i boot into recovery mode, my custom recovery is TWRP. I also wiped dalvik cache and reinstalled my apps through the recovery setup. I dont know whats going on, I even made it so that when my on screen buttons moved to the top of the screen, i would click on apps from the bottom of the screen and it would work. It doesnt seem to be a hardware issue as i have confirmed it to be working through TWRP and tapping on apps from the bottom of the screen, confirming that my touch screen is working perfectly Help me plez.

So, when rushing to get a scantron for an exam, my 2014 moto x slipped out of my hoodie pocket and landed corner first on concrete with sizable decorative rocks. The top glass of the display is cracked beyond recognition, replacing the top glass is a task too tedious for me, and a new screen as only $30 less than a new 2014 moto x. I loved the phone for it's clean software, being as snappy as day 1 even after 2 years, moto active display and it's quick launch gestures, punchy AMOLED display, and great in-hand feel. Now, since 2 years have past, I can pick up a new 2014 moto x for $150, but since it's been 2 years, I'm wondering if there's any better phone for $150 currently on the market that you can get new. I know phones from a year or 2 ago are still on the market and have gone down in price, so those are some cheap alternatives, I just don't know what to look for. So, to some up what I'm asking, for $150, is there any better unlocked phone that you can get new or factory refurbished than the 2014 moto x? as seen here, can still be bought new for $150 (link) Brand spanking new devices that came out last week aren't the only things i'm considering/wanting, I am also considering devices that are older that can still be bought new or refurbished like, said 2014 moto x,

Looking to upgrade my phone. Currently with a Moto X Pure Edition (AKA Moto X Style aka XPE aka XT1575) and the reason for the upgrade is the battery. The phone is 2.5 years old now and I'm plugging it in 2-3 times per day and, ever since upgrading to Oreo, the battery isn't tracking correctly so now it's shutting itself off with 50% power remaining. Both of which are extremely frustrating. (In America) I do really like Motorola. I've had them ever since the Razr flip phone, the Motorola Backflip, Bravo, Atrix 2, and the original Moto X and I really like the near stock android, plus the Moto Actions, like chop chop for the flashlight and twist the wrist to open the camera. Current options I'm looking at are between the X4, G6, and Z2. All of which have 3000 mAh batteries, support Turbo Charging, and have 12 MP cameras The G6 is the newest of the phones and the cheapest ($234 on Amazon). -Snapdragon 450 (1.8 GHz) -I've found conflicting reports. Motorola used to have the options for 32 GB internal/3 GB RAM or 64/4, but all I can find is the 32/3 option for checkout on their website and on Amazon. The X4 is the next cheapest ($279 on Amazon). -Snapdragon 630 (2.2 GHz) -I'm not a fan of the fact that they've reduced the screen size from 5.5" on the XPE to 5.2" on the X4. -The camera is also a step down, from 21 MP on the XPE to 12, but it gains a second 8 MP camera, which I'm not entirely sure of the benefits but I know there are some. -The front facing camera is an upgrade from 5 MP to 16, but I could honestly not care much less about that. -Released 9 months ago -XPE had dual front facing speakers, but the X4 has a single speaker The Z2 Play is the most I'd be willing to spend and is the oldest of the phones ($360 on Amazon or $408 through Motorola with a free Moto Mod projector, which is otherwise $200) -Most internal storage (64 GB) and RAM (4 GB) of the three -Moto Mods like the extra battery pack -Already a year old -Z3 supposedly coming soon but expecting the price to be higher than I'm willing to spend. (Z2 MSRP at launch was $499) My main concern with the G6 and X4 is the limited internal space. Both have 32 GB internal, but my XPE does too and has 7 GB of that dedicated to the OS. I know you can format a microSD card as internal storage but I've had problems with that, and when I did it on my XPE, Google Play Music and Videos no longer recognized the card and wouldn't let me download anything to it, and with apps, I have had times when the phone said the card was missing and I couldn't access the apps that were installed onto it. My main concern with the older 2 models is the availability of upgrades. On my XPE and the original Moto X I saw upgrades for about 2 years after the initial realease of the phone and it's since dropped off. I know there's rooting and I can probably figure it out, but I still like official support for the phones and am paranoid about accidentally bricking the phone when I try to do so. Sorry for the rambling and thanks for any opinions.

So I got a new Moto X Pure Eddition from the Moto Maker about 3 Months ago. Just yesterday, I dropped the phone for the First Time. Unfortunately, It had to be face first on hard asphalt. The case it had on it did not cover the screen, however it appeared as it would have protected it if it had landed at any different spot. So, the screen has many many fractures emitting from two points aabout a inch apart in the bottom right hand of the screen. The cracks are in the glass. There is one large piece of glass still intact that takes up some of the left side of the screen. The phone only reacts to touch in a small fraction of that in-tact section of glass on the left side of the screen. It still displays perfectly find, and has all day. I don't believe there is any damage beyond the glass, and the fractures are interfering with the digitizer's ability to pick up touches. Am I wrong? I have been told kiosks at a mall will replace it for 200 USD. Motorola gives the estimate of 50 USD. If I send it to Motorola, It would require a factory reset...Which I don't really want to do. What do you guys suggest. Do I do it myself, if so, where do I get the replacement glass? Or Is the more than just the glass broken, and do I go and pay a Kiosk 200 USD? Or do I Send It to motorola? What do you guys say? How broken is it? Also: I am currently using an OTG cable and Mouse to control the phone. It is still 100% functional and seems fine.

I am stuck in between the moto x pure and one plus three for a new phone and I was wondering if people who have these phones can give their opinion on it. Also to see peoples reasoning on why I should get one phone over another. I can see myself using both phones and it it will cost me the same if I get the 64GB and a two year protection plan. Help.

Hey all, just a quick question. I'm getting the Moto X Pure, and it comes with a 25w charger in the box. Now, I always want to have a secondary charger, so I went looking to get an extra one. Apparently, Motorola only has the 15w charger for sale, and the 25w is not sold anywhere. The question is, will it be ok to get the 15w one as my secondary, or should i wait for the 25w to be released? Will the charger(15w) or phone get damaged if I use them together? Thanks in advance!

I'm getting black screens very often on my phone. It started about 6 hours ago. I have tried shutting it of and letting it be of for a while but it still happens. I have not used any very intense apps or anything lately and it has not happened before. When I press the lock button I can see the screen turning on but it stays black and if I'm lucky it takes me to the lock screen. Sometimes it is like nothing has ever happened. How do I fix it? Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of the Moto X series of phones. I have used the Xs as my daily drivers since the original 2013 model. Aside from the horrible cameras of the last few generations, I haven't really had any game breaking complaints. Now that all of that is out of the way, I feel that it's fair to talk about the new model. It has a great amount of horsepower and a pure OS under the hood which makes the Android experience a damn smooth one. For day to day activities like Reddit, YouTube, Chrome browsing and texting, this phone is a great one. But damn does this camera suck. the Moto X series has never had a good camera, and this phone is no exception. Don't get me wrong, it can take some nice photos, but in most scenarios the photos will show up blurry and shaky. On top of the garbage camera, there is the garbage camera app that Motorola insists on keeping 'Shutter button' free. If you are looking for a phone with a nice shooter, or even a decent one; keep moving along. Do not waste your time and money on this poor camera.

Recently a good friend of mine gave me a barely used Moto X! BUT I never thought getting a Verizon 2014 Moto X to work on T-Mobile would ever be difficult, normally with unlocked Verizon phones (all of them) it's as easy as throwing in a T-Mobile or AT&T sim if you want to switch. Not this phone though! Hell no! Had to factory reset it twice for it to actually stick with 4G LTE, it was cycling between no service to Edge and then occasionally 1 bar of 4G but only with Wi-Fi connected (weird) It's like I'm scared to turn the screen on in case I see the dreaded "E" next to the network strength indicator!!! I have never had something so nonsensical and completely baffling happen to a cellphone. But it seems to have sorted itself out (famous last words) for now at least! Well my Nexus 6 has a little brother now yay Has anyone ever had something weird like this occur?

Just last night i wiped my phone and reset it to factory settings. Today I reinstalled a few app and customized it a little. A little latter, I found that the active display was not working. I made sure the settings were ok and they were set to have active display function and I have restarted it and shut down the phone several times. Any solutions on making it work again.

After being acquired by Lenovo, many believes Motorola will be return to Chinese market, and rumors were flying around in Chinese tech sites that Motorola will bring Moto G and Moto X into China. Now Motorola announced on their WeiBo, that they will return to China on 26th Jan, and mostly surprisely, The design tool Moto maker will also be available to Chinese customers as well, let them customize their Moto X smartphones. The first phones that will be available in China is the Moto X, Moto G with 4G LTE and Moto X Pro, which will all be available in early or late February (after the Chinese New Year, which started from 19th of Feb). The Moto X Pro is just a rebrand Nexus 6, runnning pure Android (reported by Engadget), but lacking of Google services as the Chinese government blocked Google services. There is still no info on pricing of these Motorola smartphones in China. So here's my situation, I have a 2013 Moto X and the screen is completely shattered. It'll cost me 200$ to repair the screen, and I'd rather just buy a new phone, the things I prioritize is general speed, battery life, responsiveness, and the newest software. Any personal experiences with the other 2 devices, I find the Nexus 4 attractive because of stock Lolipop, but if it's laggy/battery life is terrible I wouldn't want it, also the lack of LTE is another turn off. The only reason I'm a little hesitant on the G Flex is size and price, it's 280$ on amazon, the Moto X and the Nexus 4 are both basically the same price, 220$ for 16gb, I would have to buy a case for the G Flex and the Nexus 4, mostly because I don't already have one. Camera is also somewhat of a factor, I'm coming from a Moto X, so there's not much to ride home about, but if the Nexus camera is worse, than it's off the table. So, recommendations time.

As someone who bought the original moto x when it first came out, I've loved it and every day it continues to amaze me with its power. One thing i am disappointed in is the fact that its been 6 months since lollipop was released and motorola had the original moto x on the list of devices to get it, but we're still waiting. Motorola has just been giving the same canned response for a while now and there hasn't been any news. This really disappoints me. Motorola needs to get their act together. I cant unlock my bootloader or achieve root due to motorola patching that in the latest update (which was in July of 2014) and Verizon is just such garbage that they are absolutely against all of that. despite this, i'm still going to stay in the motorola ecosystem for my next phone, which will be a nexus 6. i like motorola and would like to have the fast updates of a nexus device. if anyone has any knowledge of rooting the moto x on 4.4.4 help would be much appreiciated

Today, in one of my classes, I noticed when I would unlock my phone a strange message would appear. But it would pop up for 1 second and there would be no time to read it. So for the past 8 hours I have been slowly finding out what it says by small glimpses, and I still dont know the full message. The message says something like "Your phone will now in the background. (number of seconds/minutes) until lock". This seems really strange because ive googled it many times in different ways and nothing came up. Any help to find out what it is, is appreciated.

Hey guys, just curios about your opinions of the HTC One M8 vs Moto x 2nd gen. If you don't like either then recommend something else! Thanks for the time and input What I am looking for: Have to be able to get on Verizon 2+ gb of ram 32 gb or more of built in storage at or under $150 (USD) Solid construction Strong WiFi Android (nothing against apple, just don't like IOS) What I would prefer: Big battery Upgradeable memory (Micro sd card slot) Metal (Like htc one)

Hey everyone, I ordered a Moto X(2013 model) and will need to get a case for it soon. I've already tried the Otterbox Commuter and its pretty decent, but I want to see what else is out there. So far I have found the Case Mate Naked Tough Case, SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle hybrid(what a name), and the previously mentioned Otterbox, but other than those I haven't found many. I don't need anything special from the case(like Qi charging, extra/extended battery, or extreme drop protection) and I'm fine with both plastic and gel/tpu cases. I need it to ship to the US and my budget is $20(I can go over if needed). Thanks in advance -Demetria Edit #1: Just found the Pro Shell from Incase and it looks pretty good, but I am still looking.

I was looking at buying a moto x. I am in between this and an lg g3. I was comparing the two dimensions and two things were striking to me. The similarity in dimensions with the difference in screen was one, and the other was how tall the moto x seems. Does the moto x have the 16:9 ratio or something different. Which should I get?

I've recently gotten a Moto X 2014 with Corning gorilla glass 3. I've not been able to get a screen protector just yet, but I'm getting one soon. Sadly, I've also found that I have a tiny, shallow scratch on the top bezel. I was wondering what the best way to get this scratch out was? Maybe tooth paste I've heard? Any advice on cleaning the screen before putting the protector on would also be appreciated.

Would anyone who owns a 2014 Moto X mind posting some photos here? A few daylight shots as well as lowlight ones? I've seen a few but wanted to see some more. It would be greatly appreciated P.S. Has Motorola released any updates that have improved the camera at all?

Hello everyone, I’ve been a long time visitor here and seen a lot of things that have interested me, but today I saw something that bothered me. In the most recent WAN Show (9/12/14) I saw that Luke wasn’t much of a fan of the moto 360 anymore due to the fact that it scored lower than all the other competitor’s smart watches in a battery duration benchmark. I’d just like to clarify some of the things said by some of the review sites mainly concerning the battery life of the watch. I’d also like to clarify before I start that by no means am I trying to sell the moto 360 to all of you, this is simply something that has bothered me as an owner of the thing and would like to clarify with everyone before they go and make up their minds about how the moto 360 was a complete failure. First of all I’d like to address the “terrible battery life” comments that were being made by some of the sites that reviewed this and how I believe that these may be misleading. First of all, some of these tests were performed with a setting called the “ambient screen” turned on. What the ambient screen does is that instead of turning off the screen when the watch is not in use and turning it only when it senses that the user is lifting up their arm to see their watch, when the user touches the screen of the watch to tell it to turn on, or when the user presses the button the on side it makes it so that the screen only dims down to a level that can still be visible to the user. And thus my first complain about the way that these reviews were performed, why would you want to do this??? You would rather the watch dim itself down to a level which cannot be seen properly anywhere other than inside in some relatively dim lighting (examples at the bottom) instead of having it turn off completely and saving battery and only have turn on in one of the three cases where it thinks that you are looking at it? Now, I understand that some people want this to keep the feel of an actual analog watch or that they want to make sure that everyone around them knows that they are currently wearing a smart watch, but why would you conduct a test with this setting on then only talk about the performance of the smart watch with that feature on and not even mention the battery saving without it? I personally like that the watch is trying to turn on only when it knows that I am looking at it. That being said I would also like there to be a way to personalize how the watch comes out of sleep because it keeps turning on when I don't really want it to, but even that isn't necessary for me to recommend this watch to the tech savvy. Next I’d like to address something that Luke said during the last WAN Show, and that would be that he’s worried about how much more battery the Bluetooth being on all the time would take up than just having the screen on. So I decided to look about how much battery everything on my phone was taking up: on the top of the list is the display which usually takes up about 50+% of the battery on my phone, then I looked to find what battery the watch was taking up and found it in the form of a process named “Mediaserver” which was taking a whopping 7% of battery. Some of you may be saying that this is a massive amount of battery for them, and maybe it is, but for comparison my Google Play Music application at the time has taken up 8% of my battery with me having used it for an extended period of time earlier today to listen to music while doing homework. This was all information coming from my Moto X, a phone where the screen takes dramatically less battery than some other alternatives, a phone that is also rooted and has a metric ton of xposed modules currently running to make it look nicer to me and which may also be over exaggerating the amount of battery used by some processes. Some people may now be saying that maybe it’s because I’m not getting too many notifications and that the phone isn’t pushing as many notifications as it would be with other people and other use cases, but I don’t believe that even this would cause a huge difference in the amount of battery that the phone and the watch would use to communicate. So I’ve said all this but I haven’t mentioned why I didn’t trust the reviews in the first place. At the time or writing this my watch has been off the charger for about 7 and a half hours and is sitting nicely at 75% on a relatively calm day, yesterday I has forgotten to charge the watch at night, woke up at 11AM and put it on the charger, took a shower and got ready for the day, came back got the watch and went about my day starting off with about 85% battery at around 12PM, and then proceeded to go about my day and end it all with 15% at 3AM. I do now doubt that the moto 360, with the right settings, could last two days on a single charge, something which I find thoroughly impressive considering it's the first of its kind. Furthermore, comparing this to the analog watch that I own and use on a daily basis, the only difference I see is that when I take the moto 360 off at night I have to put it on the charging dock before going to sleep, a very small price to pay for the convenience I get from having this watch. Examples for the "ambient screen" option in different lighting conditions (the option is turned on and on the dim state for every instance): Dimly lit room Fluorescent lighting Cloudy afternoon Sunny day If there is anything I missed in this post about the moto 360 that anyone of you would like to know let me know and I’ll try my best to answer your question.

On paper, the 2014 Moto X isn't that great. 2,300 mAh just doesn't SOUND like it will do great with battery life. If there's anything to learn from Apple, specs don't mean everything for a great experience with a phone. And with Android L being released hopefully by November along with Project Volta, do you think battery life on the new Moto X is enough for a great Android experience? Will I be able to get through an 8 hour day with having battery life to spare? You see, I currently own a Nokia Lumia 920. I bought it about two years ago when it was released. With my contract ending quite soon, I'm split as to which phone to buy: the Moto X (2014) or the rumored (but likely to happen) Nexus 6? It sounds like Motorola is going to be manufacturing the next Nexus, but what will the difference be between the Moto X and Nexus 6 in terms of battery life and camera if they are both made by the same manufacturer? What's your take on this? I'm really hoping that the Nexus 6 is everything I hoped and dreamed the Moto X would be.

I am about to buy a phone, and im not sure what to buy. My first question, Is 3g good enough, or is 4g worth the extra money? If 4g is worth it, what should I buy? I could either add a micro sd card to the moto g with 4g (because it only has 8 gb storage) or I could just pony up and buy the moto x. Im just not sure what the best choice is. So, do I want 3g moto g with 16gb, the 4g moto g +micro sd card, or should I pony up and buy the moto x? All help is appreciated!
