Hey guys, little bit of a noob here. I am looking to repurpose my server and migrate it from Windows Server 2016 to Windows 10. I have a storage pool/space with 3 disks in RAID 0 (please don't judge) with 12TB of movies and tv shows I have collected over the years. I read somewhere that the RAID configuration is stored on the physical devices and not attached to the OS? Is this correct? Can I simply plug these drives into Windows 10 and still retain my storage space? Thanks!

Ever since Mojang uploaded the video, I've been kind of worried. I've read the details and the account migration is mandatory. If you don't migrate, you won't be able to continue playing this game. I'm sure that just like everyone else in this forum has played or searched for this game. What do you think about it?

I have been adding hard drives as I run out of space in my plex server for a few years, and I now have three hard drives of varying sizes up to 14TB. I think I should start to get a little more serious about my data, and I’m looking at moving everything into an refs storage space with a parity drive for better resiliency. Having everything in one neat virtual disk also sounds more convenient too. I currently use an old workstation PC with limited hardware specs, and will eventually upgrade to a whole new motherboard and CPU to serve as my plex server, but as funds are limited I’m trying to get the most life out of this setup as I can. Keeping that eventual upgrade in mind, how difficult is it to transfer a storage space pool from one install of windows to another? Can I just plug all the drives belonging to the storage space pool into the sata ports on my next motherboard, and install windows? Does it take special setup, or specific hardware requirements? I’ve never used RAID or windows’ storage space features before. Can this even be done, or do you just have to reformat the pool and copy the data from a backup? If it can be done, can I jump from win10 to win11 with my storage space pool? Not sure how much the current hardware specs matter for this question. Just in case though…The current PC is a Dell optiplex 790 with an i7 2600 and 16 gigs DDR3. The motherboard only has four sata II ports, and they’re all used. One might actually be a sata III though if I remember correctly I have my boot SSD on that port. I hope to find a deal eventually on something with a higher core count, and a lot of sata ports. Thanks for the help! Looking forward to learning from you all.

Hello, I'm currently running a small-ish server as home storage (mostly video format) and I'm trying to expand it. I've recently obtained a workstation board which has like 12 sata ports, exactly what I need to expand my storage. This build is very budget and it's containing about 4 drives with total capacity of about 16 terabytes. I wasn't looking for any redundancy so the server is running windows raid 0. Right now, I'm trying to move those 4 drives with around 10 terabytes (half the capacity) filled to a different windows system (different motherboard, different system disk, different RAM, basically a whole different system). The RAID 0 configuration is ONLY DATA, no windows install (that is on a different disk). What I really need help with are actually two things if anyone could help me. -How will the RAID 0 which was configured in windows disk management (software raid) behave if I just take out all the drives and connect them to a different system? I assume since the new windows install won't know the raid at all it's not gonna work. Is there a correct way to migrate software raid? Also I will be expanding it with another 2 drives, again.. I know atleast RAID 1 or even RAID 5 would be a better option but the drivers are all different sizes and I don't really know how to make use of that. -On the new board which is asus z10pe-d8 ws there are like 10 SATA ports and 4 more "smaller" sata ports. They look similar but they're.. well.. smaller in width. What are those used for? How can I make use of them? Is there some kind of adapter? I sincerely thank to anyone who even reads this, I know it's very basic but I haven't had any luck finding this kind of information anywhere. Thanks again.

Hello, i have a PC with only a HDD (long story short, ssd came in broken) and now i ordered a new SSD (Samsung 970 EVO) and i need help with choosing the right method to trasnfer windows from my HDD to the SSD. I was wondering, which one of the following options is most likely better for time and for not losing data in the process: option a) Use third party software to mirror my windows HDD partition to the SSD and then format the HDD partition. option b) Use the windows media creation tool to install fresh windows onto the SSD, some files from HDD partition and then format it.

I have just installed an Intel 660P 1TB NVME M.2 SSD into my AsRock Z170 Extreme4. I booted as notmal and checked This PC under File Explorer to find the drive and it wasn't showing. I rebooted and ran through BIOS and it wasn't showing there either. I have checked Device Manager and it is showing up there but it says under properties that it was started (disk), configured (disk.inf) but not migrated. Is there something specific I need to do about this? I have no experience with M.2 media so I am being cautious.

Hi all, I've recently migrated my home PC from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro (1607) with the Media Creation tool. I know that it is not the best but I have lots of programs and Games which would take me days to get back like they were... I don't even have the installation CDs anymore . Since I've read a lot of comments about "Do yourself a favor and do a clean Win10 install instead of the migration", I'm asking what really are the consequences? Is it because of the drivers that are still from Win7? you can reinstall them with Win10 drivers. or is it because of the old files which use up unnecessary space? Is there any consequence for the gaming experience? Thanks.

Well long story short after a month of back and forth with samsung they told me to stop using their tool and use something better. Please Help What tool should I use? Preferably Free

Hi, i have a laptop with 120gb m.2 sata ssd as os(:C) and a 500gb 5400rpm slow toshiba hdd(:D) as secondary drive. The old drives often cause fps spikes in open world games(GTAV) and sometimes in NFS2015 the world just went black because of the slow read speeds. (i guess?) I want to get the seagate firecuda drive to replace the slow secondary drive. Q1. will changing it to the firecuda sshd can help me? (for all the shutters) Q2. If I get the firecuda and a external 2.5" enclosure bay, how do I clone the old drive to new drive? I have lots of programs and application in that (:D) drive. I dont think I can just copy and paste it.

Im sure this has been posted a thousand time but im upgrading my HDD boot drive to an ssd and have a few questions. Im not tech savy what so ever so bare with me. I plan on using Acronis to make the conversion. So after backing up my hdd can someone please give me a step by step guide on what to do next. preferably in "stupid-speak" so i can understand it, lol. thanks in advance.

I have yet migrated anything from the HDD. Mounted the SSD in to my computer, but I'm pretty lost as to what to do next. Everywhere I look people say different things, and they sure don't cover the errors I run in to. For example: After going in to BIOS > Boot > Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities and selecting the SSD as #1 I get an error message from Lenovo as I try to boot the system, reading: This program can only run on a Lenovo system. If I also go to BIOS > Boot, to choose it there simultaneously I get an error reading: Reboot and select proper boot device. (Although, the SSD doesn't appear with the name as it does under Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities so I'm not sure it's the same) Any clue on what to do? Current computer is using old parts from a Lenovo H250E. Including: 8GB RAM Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD (Windows 8 included, upgraded to Windows 10 many months ago, on the new build)

This question is for all of those who use software on a routine basis to manage hard drives, by either copying/cloning, migrating from one size drive to another, using multiple operating systems, and backing up all files to images or otherwise. I am looking for the best utility in the industry, I am sick of having to resort to using multiple tools to accomplish what I try to do when it comes to managing hard drives for my clients. Basically, I use the Disk Management tool by Microsoft extensively, however it has it's limitations and does not do a hell of a lot when it comes to resizing, cloning, and etc. If I can't do what I'd like to do with DiskMan, I will use either Minitool Partition Wizard, or EaseUS Partition Master. I have also used Macrium Reflect (i like this one a lot), Acronis TrueImage, Norton Ghost (11.5 seems to be the best version), and even Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper! However, when it comes to migrating a certain size HDD that is larger than a destination SSD, I seem to have issues. Like for instance, I'm working on a clients Macbook pro and it only supports up to OSX 10.6.8 which is not only lame, but frustrating because I can't for the life of me get any of the clones working with any combination of utilities that I use. I do happen to have some hardware cloning tools, where I can put the master disk in the first slot and then the destination drive in the 2nd, then hit the clone button... but that doesn't work when the drive is smaller than the original drive. (I know I didn't put clonezilla on here but I just dont like it. I really don't dive deeply into too many Linux programs although I do use LCMint or Ubuntu a lot to recover data from 'failed' drives) That's where this post began to formulate in my head. Why not ask Linus and friends what they think is the best of the best when it comes to migrating larger sized hard drives to smaller ones (especially an OSX drive) There's a good chance that I'll finally get this working at some point, maybe even after I hit the post button... but either way, I think this would be a great discussion to have with all of you and i'm looking forward to hearing some of your input. Thank you very much, hope to hear from you soon!

Hello all, I have a laptop with a Hybrid SSD(HSSD) and my OS was factory installed on the SSD partition of the HSSD. I would like to know if I can migrate the OS to a PCIe M.2 ssd I am buying, without migrating the contents of the rest of the HDD. Kind regards, Ibrahim Haider

hello there everyone. i'm new here so yay. ok im here cusim having a few problems and they might be too obvious but i want to know if there is another way. anyways, just got a 120gb ssd. i have a 1tb hdd and my everything is there but what i want to do is move the operating system from the hdd to the ssd. i went to MyPc and went to properties for the C: drive and i see that there is 558gb used space. to my assumption, thats a little to much to move from the hdd to ssd. all i want to do tho is move the operating system from the hdd to the ssd. please, what something i have to do to accomplish this. ive cloned a whole hdd to a new hdd but never had to migrate the OS from a 1tb hdd to a much smaller SSD. please if someone doesnt mind helping me out with my little problem. please and thank yous.

Greetings all you beautiful people! I have a question concerning LTT testbenches- Ive noticed every time they test something (specific hardware, whole new system, trying something out) their windows desktop always looks the same (what programs are installed and such) which led me to think of how they handle the windows system for a testbench. When i set up a test bench i tend to clean install windows every time and then use a utility to install all the software i need. Is this what LTT does? or do they use the same windows system and have a crap ton of drivers on the system and have a chance of it not booting? Or do they go into the system and perform the "out of box experience" setup so it gets new drivers every time but keeps the software? just curious on how they handle it. Thanks, Mic

So I just recently ordered a 1 TB hard drive that I want to use as my main drive. I was planning on copying everything from my old hard drive to this new one (including operating system) , and delete everything from my old drive , but I just can't find a method on how to do it. Do you guys have any FREE methods on how to do this? I really need to copy only the operating system , cause I can re-download everything. I am currently using Windows 10. P.S : I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff , otherwise I wouldn't have made this topic , but please try to explain it as simple as you can.

Hi Guys, My company is currently going through a transition moving from one Office 365 tenant to another. Basically, a parent company is currently hosting us but we want to move to our own. We currently have 30 users with A few shared mailboxes. The 3rd party we are working with who is handling the migration is estimating 50-60 hours to complete this project. I am wondering if that sounds accurate? There is a lot of coordination that needs to be done on their end with the current host which at times, aren't the easiest folks to get a hold of. Just wondering if that hour quantity sounds accurate. Thanks!

So I'm putting together a new PC. I bought a fresh 128 GB SSD, an ADATA Ultimate SU800, but I want to use the 1 TB WD Blue I have in my current PC. Let's say I boot up the new PC, and install Windows 10 on the new SSD. Could I then unplug my HDD, hook it up to the new PC, and delete Windows 10 from the HDD? If so, how would I do this? If not, could I plug in the HDD to the new PC, migrate some files onto the SSD, and then reformat it? I have many games on my HDD, and some movies too, that I don't want to lose if I can afford it; my internet is terrible, and redownloading would take ages.

Hey there. I just had a massive upgrade to my aging system thanks to NewEgg's Black Friday. I'm well-entrenched in my computer, from registry settings to the programs I've got installed and tweaks to various OS and internet setting functions. My new system replaces literally everything but the drives, case, and fans, but most importantly it adds a 512gb Intel 6 series NVME M.2 drive slotted into my Asus Z170-E. I plugged all my existing drives right back in and tried to boot it, and thankfully my computer seems to be functioning just like it was before I turned it off to get started on the build 3 hours ago, only with double the RAM at a significant speed increase going to DDR4 and an i5 6600k instead of i5 2500k. I'm looking to get my Windows 10 install onto the NVME drive, though, for them boot times and whatnot. I'm loathe to do the fresh install. I'm wondering if there's a way to essentially clone my current 240gb SSD that's holding the windows install onto the NVME drive, which I haven't even formatted yet. If I can, then I'd like to know if copying a slower drive would hold back any performance gains I might otherwise see if I'd have done a fresh install on the drive itself.

Is there an easy way to transfer different things individually from one Google account to another? I want to transfer the contacts, photos and possible a couple other things from one account to the other, but not all the rest of the stuff associated with the old account. Manually doing this would be quite the chore.

I just purchased a 512GB ssd, and would like to migrate all my stuff from my current 256 SSD to my new one, just with more free space. I can't seem to do it with the Acronis True Image software that came with the drive, since it won't let me make the C: partition bigger, just have 2 256GB partitions, one empty. Is there any way to do this and just increase the size of the C: partition?

systemfiles Data Migration help (Freeing up my boot SSD)
A_Lifeguard posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I am running a 850 EVO 250GB Samsung SSD as my boot drive, I have filled it up with crap (games/adobe programs/heavy MB programs) I want to free up this SSD, as I have SO much room on my HDD and other SSD to store this stuff on. My problem is I am educated enough to know you cannot just copy/paste program files from one drive to another, however I do not know how to migrate them safely without reinstalling every single one individually. Any help is appreciated (Software suggestions, Youtube vidoes,ANYTHING) Thank you, A Lifeguard
