  1. Budget (including currency): £1500 Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: FL Studio, Reason, Reaper, VCV Rack, Nodal Music, Steam, Wotja, and mand VST plugins (All already owned) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Fresh build, with many external sysnths and interfaces. I came across your YouTube channel whilst in hospital after breaking my neck in November 2022. It was 8 long months of recovery mainly in various specialist hospital wards around the UK, luckily I can now walk but many things are not the same with my arms and hands. These days I find PC hardware a minefield of protocols, be it processor, memory, motherboard etc. Anyhow, I watched your channel for some time and as of yet not seen you do a bit on professional and semi-professional audio setups, that are often used by the writers of computer/console games as well as general music composition, and come to think of it even bedroom musicians. Well, here is my pitch for something to look towards publishing on your fantastic YouTube channel. Meanwhile, I wondered if you would be graceful and help me spec a computer for a home studio, and here are my considerations, it might help with starting the brain cogs turning. Lovely though they are, LED lights are probably a no, as reducing excess electronics is a great start to reducing noise in an audio chain; I’m happy to be proven wrong on this. Fans used for cooling need to be as quiet as the budget allows. Three, maybe four screen connections are available for future expansion, (maybe motherboard onboard graphics for 1 screen and GPU the rest, (if this is possible). I know that sounds excessive, but Virtual Instruments often require knobs twiddling during a session, so having separate screens can make life easy. The GPU must be able to work with GPU audio, to help reduce CPU load. A motherboard which is somewhat future-proof in terms of memory up to 128GB as my new hobby develops, or popping in a better CPU at some stage. Initially to be at least 32GB of memory. Best CPU bang for bucks (cores/threads). Good CPU cooling which is quiet, but maybe not liquid-cooled (or is that foolish?) I live in the UK therefore a PSU that is designed for 220 to 240v It must have a quiet PSU both electrically and physically (fan). Lots of USB ports as possible on the board presented to the outside world, probably a mixed bag of USB 2.0 & 3.2 Gen 1 and 2 (maybe a nice USB Hub?) The OS has to be at least Windows 10 Pro or preferably 11 Pro (and debloated?) It must be able to run FL Studio All Plugins Edition https://www.image-line.com/ It must be able to run Reaper https://www.reaper.fm/ It must be able to run Reason https://www.reasonstudios.com/en/reason It must be able to run VCV Rack 2 Pro https://vcvrack.com/ It must be able to run MIDInous https://midinous.com/ It must be able to run Nodal https://nodalmusic.com/ It must be able to run Wotja https://wotja.com/ Fast OS drive Very fast drive for recording, it might need to play 24 or even 32 tracks of 24bit to 32bit audio simultaneously as well as record Drive for samples Drive for plugins Backup drive(s) A case with a good number of drive bays LAN as fast as possible Bluetooth 6.x for connection of phone/tablet/instruments sources with built-in BT. WiFi V6 for both Internet access and instruments etc. with wifi built-in. Budget $1300-$1900 USD, $1700-2600 CAD, £1000-1500 GBP on August 16th. Special ASCII Keyboard with FL Studio shortcuts and backlit (my main DAW). UPS (Desirable maybe as a future upgrade). NAS (Desirable maybe as a future upgrade). A better-featured Interface than my Roland Duo-Capture Ex(UA-22) (It will do for now) Various interfaces similar to my old 2 * BCF2000 & 2 * BCR2000 It's a tall order but happy for all help and advice. Regards Milton
  2. Im New Here, but i think anybody of you might know this: I wan't to use the twisting knob of the MIDI-Keyboard, which is constantly attached to my PC to control the Windows System Volume. I've already found some tools to trigger macros by using MIDI on/off signals but nothing, which can use the value of such an controller. Add. Info: I want to use the twisting knobs of the AKAI MPK mini mk3 on Windows 11 Thanks for your time Johannes
  3. Hi, I have a Yamaha Mg10xu. I'm having an issue where when I'm in discord talking to friends, they are able to hear themselves and any music be it Spotify or YouTube. I laid out the manual and went over it in details, I tried the recommendation and troubleshooting section as well. I've attached an image of my mixer with the following connections: Mic/Line 1 - Bluebird Condesnor Nic (48w phantom switch on) 9/8 Midi USB to Pc (USB switched on) Top left--Stereo (2x KEF Q150 Speakers powered via external S.M.S.L Amp) Monitor - Sennheiser Headphone I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, thank you in advance.

    DAW? music

can a 25 key midi controller range bottom to top in a 100 key piano roll inside a daw? and not be limited only to 25 keys in the piano roll
  5. OK, the question is simple: how do I build external MIDI triggers. My idea is to create a custom MIDI instrument that I can hook up to my MacBook and use the MIDI triggers in GarageBand.
  6. I have a midi device with 64 pressure sensitive pads. I wan't to use this as gas and break in games. Each button sends an "Aftertouch" Midi command with the pressure. Any ideas or softwhere? has this been done before? I wan't it analog so its not just on and off.
  7. So I recently got an Asus Xonar Essence STX II with UNI Xonar drivers to replace my Audigy Rx, so I uninstalled the old Sound Blaster Audigy drivers, naturally. But then when I figured I should use both sound cards in the same computer because the STX II had too high a latency for rhythm gaming and the Audigy Rx had a MIDI synth whereas the STX II doesn't (sheesh, what a downgrade!), I reinstalled the Audigy drivers only to find out that the MIDI synths do not appear in anywhere I would normally find them, such as in FL Studio's MIDI I/O settings or DOSBox. As far as I know, I deleted one remnant file in System32 that corresponds to the Audigy Rx's ASIO, since it showed up in FL as one of the ASIO devices despite not having its drivers installed. I doubt that has anything to do with it. I have reinstalled the Audigy Rx drivers multiple times in the past and this has never happened. Please help prevent me from pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get the MIDI synth and soundfont player to work. Even Soundfont Bank Manager comes up empty! No bueno!
  8. I just purchased the APC Mini for Akai and I want to use it alongside my tablet. I would like to know how to reprogram the Mini to use custom hotkeys, and use the sliders to change saturation and stuff in Photoshop. Thank you
  9. So I currently have a focusrite scarlet 2i2 with a audio technica at2020 plugged into it. Until recently I have had interest in finally getting a keyboard for recording. The electric keyboard I have now(piano kind not typing ) is old and was looking for a new one so I found this as an good enough entry level one the novation and was wondering how i would go about connecting this for recording. Would I need a midi interface? or would the usb b port on it connect into my pc just fine.
  10. I'm looking for some advice on buying a cheap Midi Keyboard from Amazon.uk does anyone know anything about such a thing as I'm a total noob. I will be using it to create music for a game I'm making it doesn't have to be amazing just good enough to get the job done basically I'm looking for the best bad keyboard or the least worse if you will. I'm seeing lots of options on Amazon for around the £60 mark which is ideally what I'd be willing to spend on such a device. Any and all advice or knowledge bombs are welcome
  11. Hi all, I'm working on a video editing project and it involves a lot of pitch shifting of jacksepticeye screaming "musically" to the tune of Doom's e1m1, i was wondering if there was a way to automate this instead of having to manually isolate every part of the voice clip and pitch shift each note by hand. what i had an idea was for me to take a sample of the voice clip, and run it in a sampler keyboard program and feed this program the midi like a player piano, record that, and use the recorded file as my audio source. Can this be done or am I overthinking things? I'm using Sony Vegas btw.
  12. Hi for whoever reads this, I just want to share a bunch of stuff I've been collecting recently that as of right now enabled me to turn my Ipad Pro into a full wireless macro "keyboard". Quick summary: (very quick because I don't want to lose the productivity freaks that may be interested in this) I was currently running variations of Taran's AHK scripts on Icue but I run out of keys...Unable to get my hands on HASU I did the next obvious thing, "lets give meaning to the 'PRO' word on the Ipad tittle" (in reality it actually works in any tablet). For context, I do 2D animation compositing work Inside After Affects and I also supervise a team of two other compositors (and the film I'm currently working has 1300 shots), every piece of automation is desperately needed. So, to get lots of extra "hotkeys" what I did was to use this OSC app to send MIDI signals to the computer so that AHK could map them and do his work(or my work) for each signal. Example in action: (I didn't had time to make an specific layout to use in After Efects so I was using this keyboard for testing, when I do it I will share it) For those who haven't seen Taran series on Macro keyboards I recommend doing so because this is extremely specific stuff. Now to the actual stuff: Get the TouchOSC App that's been around since 2007 ( works on Andorid or iOS) - Why not any other free OSC/MIDI app? Because Touch OSC has this layout editor that lets you decide which MIDI value/note to be passed on key-press, and if you don't want to get into MIDI you can setup normal Keys and use it with A-Z, 0-9, F keys for macro... Not only that but the desktop editor let you customize the layout of the buttons to your heart's desire. TouchOSC Layout editor (you only have to pay for the iOS/Android app the rest is free). The MIDI signal is interpreted as Notes because MIDI stands for Music Instrument Digital Interface, so the "hotkeys" are represented and mapped as "Music Notes" Download the free TouchOSC Bridge and TouchOSC Editor - (And then you can install them, its pretty straight forward) ( with the editor you can create the layouts and assign values to the touch keys) Go to Github and download this custom made MIDI Library for AHK https://github.com/micahstubbs/midi4ahk - ( This guy, made an awesome job to compile all the work people did in this thread) Inside the main folder you will see a bunch of scripts, most of them for testing purpose. Open "MidiInWMTest.ahk" and press a keys on the tablet to see the signal passed to AHK. - ( And if you want to get funky, configure a key on the OSC Editor to return any note from 48 to 55 and run "Midi_in_lib_test.ahk") The "midi_keymap_template.ahk" already comes loaded with the basic "hotkeys" so you can get right into it (it has several setups for some notes, I believe you can do notes up to 127 + multiple channels, in another file "wheel_vis_sample.ahk "you can learn to capture Control Changes instead of Notes. MIDI has lots of output signals to map). That's it... It is actually pretty simple stuff, the work was already there, all I did was to assign new use to it. If you liked it check out the thread I mention in the AHK forum, this user orbik did an awesome job on a dll to create this MIDI library for AHK. And last but not least all started when I saw a guy doing this TouchOSC layout to control his After Effect. (next step is to get him to share his layout lol) PS: I don't know if Taran will ever get to read this, but if he does, Taran, you are my HERO! You have saved me probably hundreds of hours and dollars from your macro endeavors!
  13. Hi, I'm looking for a pc case with great airflow. Requirements: Space for atleast 2 HDD, and 1 SSD. Graphics length atleast 330mm. Will eventually upgrade to a card close to the 320 - 330mm length. So just making sure it will fit. Great airflow. Supports ATX mobo. I would prefer a midi tower, but it can be a full tower aswell. Preferebly a case below $160 Right now my case is a CM Elite 430. My specs: Graphics card: MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G. CPU: i7 6700k. CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo. RAM: 2x 8gb. MOBO: MSI Z270 Gaming M5. PSU: CM B700. Case: CM Elite 430. If you need more specific details, please tell :-)
  14. Hello! I have recently bought my first MIDI controller keyboard, an Elesis VI61. I have been trying to make it work on my main computer (windows 8.1) but it simply won't be recognized. When I plug it in, all the lights on it turn on normally, and the computer detects a dispositive, but on the device manager it appear as "others dispositives" and has an exclamation symbol, saying that "no drivers for the dispositive are installed and there are no compatible drivers for it". Also, whenever I try using any software that uses MIDI the controller doesn't work whatsoever. Even the updater for the device's firmware doesn't detect it. Please note that this MIDI keyboard is class-compliant, which means it doesn't need a specific driver to work, although other standard windows drivers are still required. What I have tried so far: -Changing cables -Changing USB port -Restarting the PC -Unplugging other devices -Uninstalling the keyboard at the device manager and then re-plugging it in -Using the keyboard on another computer (IT WORKED PERFECTLY) -Downloading everything from the manufacturer's website -contacting the manufacturer (didn't get a response) I have tried updating the other drivers of the computer by both the Dell support website and by using the Driver Booster 3 (a driver updater software), but some drivers apparently won't update properly, giving error messages. When I managed to make it work on the other computer, I simply plugged it on the USB port and it was recognized and started functioning immediately. I then went to the device management and checked the "driver details" of the device and this is what is shown: I then went to my main computer and turns out I have all of those drivers on my system32 folder. It makes no sense to me. Providing that the keyboard lights up, shows as a dispositive on my pc and can even work properly on another machine, I can only conclude that my computer is the source of the problem. Since I had trouble updating some of the drivers, there must be one or more main windows driver not working as it should. Do you guy know what could be the cause of the problem? Did you have some similar issue in the past? if so how did you solve it? What might be keeping me from updating those drivers that show the error messages? What are good driver updaters that I can use? My main computer is a Dell Inspiron 7520 runing windows 8.1 (a gaming laptop from 2013) The computer it worked on was a Samsung np300e5l-kf1br (standard Samsung browser machine) Thank you for the patiece. I would really appreciate any help.
  15. Hi, do you know of any good midi sequencer apps for iOS? Requirements: Midi recording via the lightning port Midi out Play a music track when I'm recording midi in the same "window" I'm going to use it to output midi to a dmx controller to control stage lights. Edit: I did find an app called meteor that can output midi but it doesn't look very modern and it would be appreciated if you could find an app with a more modernized look. EditEdit: I did purchase it tho so I wasted 25$
  16. Hi, I have a midi keyboard with a 7 pin mini din out for midi instead of standard 5 pin DIN. Do you know of any adapters which can convert this to 5 pin DIN? Edit: The keyboard also has a mini USB out for other devices than iOS (btw the 7 pin DIN is labeled ios). EditEdit: Opifiny time: The two extra pins in the din connector is probably for power because it doesn't need a power cord when connected to an iPad.
  17. Hello LTT, Long time watcher, first time poster. I will try to keep this as TL;DR avoidant as possible because less is more (we'll come back to that phrase at the end). Here's my paint by number 1 thru 5 from the sticky: Location and Unknown Budget This build will be conducted in the U.S. and will have an unknown budget. I would prefer staying close to best performance per dollar, unless spending a bit more allows more future proofing. Aim I want to build a Intel-based composer's workstation using multiple Mini ITX systems as networked sound modules that are controlled by one (up to EATX) master system using Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 and Cubase Pro. The basic idea here is to load up instances of sample libraries and processor intensive VSTi and spread that across several barebones rigs so that the CPU strain can be offloaded and so that all of those resources are ready and available while producing music. Junkie XL has a similar setup with 6 sound module PCs and one master system. Monitors Main displays: Samsung C34F791 34" Curved Displays (3440 x 1440) Why: I want an immersive experience with the option to arrange and mix simultaneously. I am open to changing this to one display if it is a 4k model. I would prefer it to be curved, but I don't want to spend thousands on it. Secondary displays: AOC I1601FWUX 15.6" IPS (1920 x 1080) Why: I would like to run ShareMouse on these machines so I can make adjustments as needed without using Remote Desktop to keep latency low. This means I will need a small format display for my Mini ITX systems purely for making those occasional adjustments. These, or something better, could be placed on my desk for seamless access to the desktops of the sound module PCs. Peripherals This is a "from the ground up" build, meaning everything is being planned and purchased from a starting point of having nothing. I still own my prized Logitech G9x and have enjoyed using it for navigating my studio sessions in the past, but I am interested to know if there is a successor to this mouse I should consider; one that is just as dependable but even more customizable, in terms of available buttons. Why I Am Upgrading I need to arrange and compose music in an uncompromising digital environment. I need to have a dependable, powerful, future-forward network of machines that will serve me for the next decade or so and can be upgraded as necessary. I need a modern build plan to realize the goal of moving toward music production as a full time passion. I need guidance to determine what is a good plan versus what is merely an expensive plan. Now we come back to the "less is more" part of it. Junkie XL, Hans Zimmer, Current Value, and Deadmau5 all use multiple networked computers in their professional workstation setups. A network of slaves tied to one master over LAN is not a niche or esoteric thing to build in this context, but increases in computing power would seem to indicate the number of machines required to achieve the same results will be fewer. This is where I quickly become confused: how many systems, theoretically, should I aim for? Here is a thread over on Level1Techs about my initial ideas for this project (if you want more reading). I will also be asking about this on KVR to round out discussion of this plan and get more opinions. And here are my two designs for the Mini ITX slave systems on PC Part Picker (yes, I know I don't need to include Optane in the Z370, but who knows I might need legacy drives at some point): Z370 Build: VE Pro Sound Module PC X299 Build: VE Pro X299 Sound Module PC No AMD Latency is huge on Ryzen, unfortunately. Because of the NUMA on Threadripper, the per core performance, floating point throughput, and overall Dawbench scores are mighty sad when compared to the 8700K, 7820X, and anything higher from Intel. My old system that is long since past dead was an AMD 9950 quad and simply moving from that entire PC tower to a Core i7 MacBook a couple of years later was enough to experience a nearly 4x performance boost over what I thought was a powerful option from AMD at the time. The playing field is much more level now, but in terms of audio that demands low latency, Intel easily still wins. Preferably X299 I had contemplated building everything using an 8700K, like the Z370 build. This was because per core performance, number of cores, possible overclock, and performance per dollar all seemed to line up within that one chip. But since the price difference between the two PC Part Picker lists is less than $300 (at current prices), I would opt for the X299 option because, for a nominal added cost, I could get more lifespan out of an LGA-2066 design. Even if the Z370 option is a better performer due to cost considerations, it is still only preferable at the moment and pursuing it solely on lower cost ignores the maturation of X299 moving forward. At least, that's my rationale for opting to go this route. Water Cooling I am aware that all systems in this network would benefit from or even require water cooling. I welcome this, having never built a water cooled system before and having taken great pride in seeing previous projects through to completion with my own two hands. What Main System? I think what I need the most help with aside from how many systems I would need is how to sensibly plan the master system that brings all of this together into one place. I do not currently see any benefit whatsoever in trying to run a 7980XE, especially since that price tag exceeds the entire build of one of the Mini ITX modules. But you can try to convince me. I can share more about that in this thread, but for now I'll let this information stand as a "rough draft" of my intentions. Thanks for reading!
  18. Idk if this is the right forum for the job, but screw it So I made myself a midi drumset following the above tutorial. I’ve tested it with midi ox and in Ableton and I can get a midi output. I just need help either using it with a drum rack or assigning clips to the midi output it’s guving me. The code he gives in the video is the exact code I used. No changes. Can anyone help me?
  19. Here's a video showing it in action. Youtube and OBS has kind of butchered the quality of this, it sounds normally less muffled than this. This is a 2GB large soundfont that I've been working on the past few months. I'm still working on this one a bit every now and then, mostly to try and get the size down. The page with the changelog and whatnot is over here... https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=57273 This project is designed to make old videogames that use MIDI for their BGM sound better. I hope this helps a few of you guys here. Here's a link to the latest version... https://downloads.kor.ninja/Music/korfontproject/KOR Soundfont - Complete - 1.2.7z
  20. I have an older piano keyboard that does not have a midi or USB port. however, it does have aux out. so I was wondering if there was a way to convert an analog audio signal going into my computer via audio in into a midi signal so I can play Synthesia with my piano keyboard instead of buying a new and expensive piano keyboard that has USB or MIDI
  21. For example, if I were to play a black midi file, with something like midi trail, the graphics will load perfectly on time, however the audio can start getting a delay, causing a black midi file to sometimes be up to twice as long as it should be in the audio, while the graphics are perfectly in time. Would a sound card effect midi playback in this way?
  22. Hey guys! Never posted here before, but I trust this group and I had an interesting question that came to my mind after seeing a build, so I wanted to reach out to you all. A user on a social site I use posted photos of his LoZ build, and someone posed a question asking if it played the "Item Grab" sound *You got a THING!!* when it powered up. Now, I know you can change the sounds once the computer has booted, but it got me to thinking: there are programs that exist which allow you to play midi files through your internal speaker. Is there currently a way to adjust, either by a program, or by a third party device, that you could have your computer play a short sound clip on post? Thanks for your help! Here's the person's build: http://imgur.com/gallery/mfuy5 Sound that I was thinking would fit his build:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBtsMTnstZM
  23. I didn't see a thread for this anywhere so... go ahead and lock if I missed something? Anyway, for all 3 of you who care, this thread is for discussion of music sequencing. Weather that's a sound card in your gaming rig, the bleeper in your Atari, crappy software synth, soundbanks and MIDI files, discuss it all here! Personally, I have a SoundBlaster Audigy ZX2, and use the Arachno Soundfont as a main, but also have a bunch of others I play around with included in the attached .ZIP file. I also threw in a .ZIP of some of my favorite .MIDI files. I've got way more than this, but most are terrible. Touhou games sound amazing with a sound card btw. Also, this. midis.zip Soundfonts.zip
  24. Hello community I dont know whether the ltt forum is the right place to ask this question. I would like to just record my piano on the computer so that I can separately add voice or edit notes. My piano is a Yamaha YDP-142. I am aware that I can connect the piano though the mic jack but I'd like to have a digital signal that I can edit later, so a usb connection would be better. I've tried some programs but none of them really did what I wanted (maybe because I couldnt use them properly). Can anyone please help?
