Hello everyone, I'm Ivan. A friend of mine give to me her MacBook Air in order to repair it because all of a sudden it become extremely slow and sluggish. Mac OS struggles to arrive to the login page. Installing (very slowly) Windows 11 on it, I saw that the CPU is capped to 0,49 GHz and doesn't go up, even under stress. Apple Diagnostics says that everything is fine. What should I do? Battery is fine, the SSD has been changed a week ago thinking that it could be the issue. Thanks to everyone who will help me!

Apple has removed the family emoji since it was not inclusive enough with every skin color and gender combination. Video explanation: What are you guys thoughts about this?

Unfortunately, I'm a Mac gamer. I'm not really a hard-core "gamer", I maybe play trough 1-2 games per year. App Store currently has a fantastic discount here in Sweden with about 70% discount some AAA-titles. I enjoy games like Life is Strange, Grand Theft Auto, LEGO Star Wars, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, The Sims. Do you think any of the games on the screen shot below would be interesting to me? I know I watched PewDiePie play Resident Evil Village and really enjoyed him playing it, though I'm a bit unsure if I would have to patience the beat the bosses (I like games that progress relatively straight forward). I played the Resident Evil 4 Demo though and it was fun.

What's Microsoft's/Window's modern day equivalent to Apple's free* macOS creative apps like iMovie & GarageBand? For example, from my understanding, software like Windows Movie Maker is no longer a thing in Windows 11? My sister recently switched from macOS to Windows and is looking for a free and easy-to-learn iMovie-replacement. (*Yes I know they're technically not free since you're paying for them with the Apple tax for hardware and services).

Is there a way to display the GPU (graphics card) workload usage as a percentage for Apple Silicon M-series Mac with Swift & Xcode? CPU monitoring works. GPU monitoring seems impossible. I only get the workload for the current app, but total GPU workload for the whole system is impossible to figure out for me. Any ideas how to do this?

Hi Everyone, what are your experiences with external storages in Sonoma? Some of us are having serious issues, lost volumes, unmontable drives, data loss. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255188289?sortBy=best https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-do-i-allow-access-to-removable-volumes.2376842/ My very expensive Lacie 6big got corrupted, and the replacement is also acting up. Seagate and Apple are blaming each other, they made me to reformat my boot drive and completely reinstall MacOS, which did not solved the issue.

Hi, I'm a Computer Science student, my painful journey begins when a friend told me that he had an old iMac (iMac 21.5, Mid 2010 [11,2]) that wasn't turning on and because I study this he thought I can fix it. I have to clarify that this is my first time really fixing a Mac, I used one for around a month at work, but I then changed it for a Windows one because I'm more conformable with it, so I know the bare minimum about macOs. When I just plug it in my house the PC just turned on but it was showing just a blank screen, my friend told me that he took it to a repair shop and they told him that it was a hard drive issue and that it would cost a lot. I started trying to open recovery (Command+R) but it just wouldn't open, like it was corrupted, so I opened it and take the hard drive out for testing. The guy was correct, the drive was dead, so I installed it an SSD, took a USB with High Sierra installer (last supported OS for this mac) and install it. I taught it was an easy job, spoiler, this was almost a month ago, I'm still dealing with this F iMac. When I started the OS everything looked ok, but when I test everything the PC was getting REALLY slow, it was unusable. So I checked the temps and they seem a bit high, so I thought it was a thermal issue, because this mac has more that 10 years and has never been cleaned. So I opened it again, cleaned everything, changed the thermal paste, remove the dirt of the fans, and everything. After all of this the Mac was as slow as it was before. It had no sense, the temps were ok, no CPU usage, RAM ok, an upgrade from the HDD to SSD, no dirt, fresh OS, but it was still unusable slow. After all that, I thought macOs was the problem, so I took an Ubuntu USB and installed Ubuntu. The installer was all ok, but when it booted to Ubuntu the screen was completely black, the backlight of the display was also off, it was super strange. Tried turning it on and off but nothing worked. When booting it makes the "mac sound", white screen, then completely black until you shut it down. I tough it was an Ubuntu problem, so I tried with windows 10, but exactly the same happened. After a bit of research I found that it was a problem with the dedicated AMD GPU and the drivers, so I installed macOS again (because I erased it thinking Ubuntu or Windows would work perfect), then opened the bootcamp app -> Action -> Download Drivers. I thought it was it, but no, this iMac wanted to continue ruining my life. When I selected where the drivers to download, click OK, but then an error popped up, "Can't download the software because of a network problem". The Mac is connected to ethernet and also to wifi. My internet connection is great, it also worked great on the Mac for browsing (when you could, because it keep freezing) and things downloaded fast. I couldn't find any answers on internet. The only guide I found for installing Windows on older Macs was to modify the macOS bootcamp app to enable a 3rd option that helps installing windows. I created an USB with the Windows 7 iso using bootcamp but without the "Download drivers" option, because apparently Apple servers are not working or something and it can't download them, and also created the partition. So when the process finished I rebooted, hold Alt, but the USB was not showing. I tried the same process with Windows 8.1 (I know is a horrible OS, but it was supposed to be the last officially supported Windows). To my surprise, it booted the usb and I installed it correctly (almost). Obviously, it needed drivers because audio was not working etc. So I launched Brigadier (also searched on the apple website but this was easier), and found out, after having the drivers downloaded, that the latest Bootcamp drivers for windows on this mac where for Windows 7 (BootCamp-041-84868). Tried installing them anyway but all windows crashed. Now, I'm back on macOS, it's still VERY slow, idk what to do next, because for some reason Windows 7 installer doesn't want to show up, and the UEFI version of Windows 7 needs secure boot disabled and it can't be done on this iMac. At this point I just want to throw a brick to this F machine, nothing works, and EVERY TIME i taught i found the right path it just keeps failing or having some apple things that make thing even harder (Apple being Apple). Someone, please help, I don't know what to do next, I can say that I LITERALLY TRIED EVERYTHING, and don't know what to do now. I don't want to give back to my friend his PC that's more usable as a door stoper than as an actual PC. Makes me feel like an awful technician, I brought back to life laptops with Intel Core 2 Duo that are actually working great, and this PC with an i5 can't even open facebook. Thanks.

Hello, I am trying to assist a friend in being able to run a few programs that do not appear to be working at all (Minecraft Java, Roblox, Parsec, Steam) Unfortunately I am not experienced in MacOS at all, but I believe that the issue is due to the Mac running Yosemite. Following apples support guide on updating MacOS (System Preferences > Software Update) leads to the app store which does not appear to have anything to update. It is looking like the only option is a complete reinstall of the OS. unless there is another easier way that I am simply not aware of. Thank you to anyone that helps me with this issue.

I'm gonna have some friends over and I thought that instead of watching movies like we usually do, I thought playing some video games might be fun to try. However, no one (including me) is a gamer. This is the hardware I have: PC (RTX 2060, 16 GB RAM). Mac (M1 Max, 32 GB RAM). 1440p 165 hz monitor. 4K OLED TV 60 hz. Three DUALSHOCK 4 PS4 Bluetooth controllers (unfortunately no PS4 at the moment though, long story...). I would prefer if there was a game that supported local multiplayer by using the two/three DUALSHOCK 4 Bluetooth controllers at the same time to the same device. But maybe those single device multiplayer games are mostly for console? We're open for any suggestions in terms of genre. I apologize in advance for my lack of gaming knowledge.

Hi, yesterday I bought a brand new MacBook Pro from Apple. I did a clean set up from absolute zero and in Hungarian. Seemingly everything went just fine, texts shows up in Hungarian, but as I said it in the title, some notification, like the software update and the display settings, show up in Chinese (it might be another east-asian language, I'm sorry). I'll attack a picture, sorry for the bad quality. Could someone help me out with this one? I have never a mac before, I have no idea what to do. So far I have tried to restart the laptop and tried changing the system language to English and then change it back to Hungarian.

timemachine Newbie to good backup advice need help
ImEmilie posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Hello I'm familiar with LTT video and watched a lot and follow quite frequently but I don't seem to find a video discussing this topic Here is issue/question : I have just bought a M2 MacBook Air 250GB as my new main laptop I previously had a intel MacBook Pro 2020 500GB I intend to use this one as a desktop Mac for the time I need to do intel specific app or bootcamp that I have too (do not really care to backup this bootcamp ) to use this one connected to one of the monitor I had with my 2 screen windows pc (I only use it for gaming from time to time and honestly 2 screen is overkill for this usage I have on windows) currently my backup options are iCloud 200GB for my iPhone ? iPad and iPhoto taking most of it (over 90GB) I also have a external M2 SSD 1TO on usb c that I connect around one time a month or every 2 weeks to backup my MBP intel i also have a old windows laptop (I5 6GB 128SSD with usb3 port) I'm wondering if its a good idea turning this old laptop as a OpenMediaVault I heard this support Time Machine saves server (I am not the most tech savy but I can always find my ways and I'm a quick learner) OR do i have any ways to connect a 4TB ext hard drive I have to my old MBP and configure it to Time Machine both my intel MPB and MPB without having to connect to the hard drive each time Maybe a software making the old MBP a ""server"" for time machine on this 4TB hard drive that I could let it run during the night and it would backup both my MacBook If I can I would rather use my MBP intel as the "server" for Time Machine for both Mac I own or should I go thru the trouble of doing the OpenMediaVault idea but since I'm not the most expert on it risk losing it by making a mistake I would like too if possible those Time Machine backup to be encrypted like I have currently with my M2 external SSD but I know SSD aren't the safest option in the long term compared to HDD having just bought a quite expensive laptop for my budget I would like to use what I already have and not a standalone NAS like sinology I know exist (I'd say my budget would be around 100euro added if needed)? But I do already have quite a lot of HDD (2TO , 1TO (2) , 250SSD(1)) that could be used for that and a external 4TB external hard drive that I currently use for backup but have around 1TO FREE on it witch would be enough to save both my 500 MBP and 250 MBAir I hope this made sense I tried to be specific and English is not my main language so please forgive any typo's I can provide more information if needed about the setup Thank you to all who would be kind to help me (I hope this is the right place to post this too please tell me if I need to delete and post it again in the correct forum) Love Emilie -
I want the best of both worlds, get it? Hey Friends, long time viewer (on YouTube, not the Forum), first time caller. Please let me know if this is not the correct place to post this, I followed the post rules as best I could. 0. Equipment Owned available for build: -2018 Mac Mini i7 6-core w/ 32GB RAM -Promise Pegasus R4 -4x IronWolf Pro 14TB HDDs -Pepwave Max BR1 MK2 router (pretty sure this isn't useful but it's sitting in my closet, so figured I'd mention it) 0.5 Context/Background: I work in the Film Industry. 8 years of experience as a Digital Loader. My primary responsibility is to take the shot media cards (For this job, the camera is the Alexa35 with 1TB NVMe Arri compact cards) and offload them to "shuttle drives" (typically 2-8TB NVMe) as well as to a "master drive" that stays on my work truck. Once the post production department has written to LTO, I'm able to delete that footage from the "master drive." In the past, I have always used DAS units as a master drive. Mostly GSpeed Shuttles and GRaids years ago. 1. Budget & Location $1,500-$2,000USD (not including drives). The less I spend on the build, the more likely I will go with SAS drives instead of SATA. Located in Los Angeles, California. 2. Aim My true aim is to figure out how to get a subsidized Homelab with 80-100TB of capacity because my company will pay me ~$3K to rent this machine for a 5 month job. I want to build a machine that can act as an onsite "Master Backup Drive" for a short job and afterwards become the basis for my first Homelab as well as the storage pool for my Plex server. Needs to have 6x-12x 3.5" bays (bonus if there's a 5.25" bay to throw my BluRay ripper in), be compatible with SAS and SATA, configurable in RAID5 or RAID-Z1 (Spoiler, I've never used ZFS), and be able to efficiently write data from the 1TB NVMe "source media cards" through my Mac. If I can get 500MB/s, to the "Master" that would be great. My Mac will act as the only client to the server/NAS/storage pool. The 1TB NVMe "source" camera media cards will be plugged into my Mac over TB3, the "shuttle drives" will be plugged into my mac over TB3 and then the server will either be plugged into my Mac over TB2, TB3 or the 10G network card. Everything has to filter through my mac due to the Codex Device manager being MacOS only and necessary to view the HDE virtual volume of the "source" cards. I will also be generating an xxhash64 checksum through Silverstack, Hedge or ShotPutPro from the "source" media cards to the "shuttle" and "master" drives. 3. Monitors The system I'm requesting help with is headless. I have a 13" piece of hot garbage that will do just fine over HDMI into my Mac. 4. Peripherals Irrelevant for this build 5. Why are you upgrading? My current Plex server build has 35 of the usable 36TB filled and I have a job that could subsidize $3K into a significant upgrade. Quick/Cheap/Easy Idea: Buy a Thunderbay 8 or a used Areca 8-bay DAS and fill it with 12-18TB drives. I'm not wild about using SoftRaid on the Thunderbay and the Areca is only compatible with MacOS and Windows...

Are there input limitations when I do picture by picture? My ProArts at work have limitations in Picture by/in Picture where if the main input is on: USB-C - I can't use DisplayPort (and vice versa), and only HDMI HDMI - I can't use the other HDMI port and only USB-C or DisplayPort Same limitation applies to my MSI ultrawide at home. I was looking at the manual, and I just want to confirm that there is no limitation with picture by picture with the DualUp? --------------- LG DualUp + macOS + Picture by Picture - will macOS recognize 16:9 resolution when the DualUp is split into 2? Edit: Found my answer in this video: ------- With DualUp providing a perfect 16:9 resolution when Picture by Picture is enabled thanks to its 16:18 aspect ratio, will macOS provide 16x9 options for resolution if Picture by Picture is enabled? It's my personal experience that Macs can be a pain in the rear with PbP on 16:9 monitors due to it not respecting or recognizing 8:9 (didn't have that problem on my Linux workstation I'm running simultaneously), and only provides 16:9 resolutions unless I do some workarounds and tweaking.

It’s really annoying that in the Mac App Store there’s no filter to hide search results containing a subscription. I want a perpetual license. Yes I understand that reoccurring revenue is important from a business perspective, but still. Is there a Face Swap software for Mac with a perpetual license? I want to import two images and replace the face in image 1 with the face from image 2.

Would it be possible to use QEMU/UTM to update the firmware on the Thunderbolt dock? Especially since using Parallels involve using Trial mode? I use a OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock at work, and I have an M1 Max Macbook Pro

macOS has a built-in AI Image Remover function on Apple Silicon powered Macs (right click on an image file -> Quick Actions -> Remove background). However, it does a pretty terrible job with hair details. On the other hand, we have the website remove.bg that does a fantastic job of removing backgrounds flawlessly while keeping hair details, but it’s insanely expensive when you have hundreds of images. Is anyone aware of an AI/Machine Learning background remover for Mac with batch processing that has a perpetual license and cost less than $100 USD? Alternatively an annual subscription ≈ 30 dollars? UPDATE: I tried “AI Batch Background Eraser” by Ivan Blayasoft from the Mac App Store but it won’t output an image for some reason?

If you want to get more monitors out of your Mac, you’ll need a link that supports display link. Here is one I found that worked well for my 16" M2 + 3 external displays: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09N6T9NTS You'll need to install the display link driver on your Mac: https://displaylink.com Then you'll need to set it to auto-start on login, and under the settings of the tool enable a few checkboxes that allow it to show on the screen saver. The above has worked pretty well for me, the only issue is that sometimes the driver crashes and needs manual restart after plugging and unplugging my Mac a few times.

Is there any good way to take the input from a microphone and change it in real time and output the modified audio into OBS for streaming on macOS? I have a 3D-puppet that I control in real time and need to also change my voice. Free is preferred but I'm willing to pay up to 10 USD. If I can control it via the Elgato Steam Deck MK.2 (turn the effect on/off) it also a bonus, but not a must. (MBP M1 Max).

What are some easy to use alternatives to Parallels Desktop for macOS in 2023? Parallels is a in my opinion a bad company, they harass you with “please subscribe”-notifications when you’ve bought an expensive perpetual license of their software, and it’s impossible to come in contact with their support if you don’t have social media and the subscription version of their software. I want something as easy to use as possible, it’s for my young brother who will use it primarily for running Windows games on his Mac (he needs a Mac for multiple reasons). I’ve looked at some of the alternatives that want you to download the Windows version of Steam to macOS and then running the games by translating them. It kind of seems complicated to be honest, Parallels was extremely easy to use for him while it worked since he just had to click the Parallels Desktop-icon in the dock and click on the game he wanted to play on the Windows desktop. He uses a Mac with M1 by the way. It’s a shame Boot Camp was removed…

How do I submit iOS bug reports to Apple? They hade their Feedback Assistant app, but it requires you to join the beta/developer programme. Is there really no way to report bugs for a publicly major iOS release without enrolling in these?
