Hi all, Just seeking some advice in regards to an old laptop I used to own in use by another person. The screen will glitch out and go black if you angle it about halfway to being fully closed or if you moved the laptop itself at all but I think I have managed to avoid the latter from happening by moving the display cable around a bit. The model name, manufacture date and everything is below along with some other notes of interest. The laptop has been in heavy use since I got it in mid 2015. I have found a replacement cable as I believe that to be the culprit of the screen going off but just want to make sure this would fit? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174622764103 (The panel on this laptop is UHD) It has a far newer manufacture date which gives me some pause but the fact that both are supposedly 40-pin I believe it should work. What do you guys think and are there any alternative avenues you propose I should look into? (I have ran a hdmi to my monitor to confirm that the hardware issue is basically limited to the screen and/or it's cable) Thanks!

Hello everyone My laptop is a lenovo y50 with a GTX 860M and core i7 4710HQ. I also have an external laptop fan. I once had steady 120+fps on cs go max settings, but recently my graphics card has been performing poorly and I only get sub 40 fps. I monitored my CPU and GPU activity with MSI afterburner and I do not know if anything is wrong. It is pretty annoying, and considering I only bought desktop parts this past Black Friday, I still need to work with this laptop for a few weeks. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

Hi, I have a Lenovo Y50 that's fairly new. My model comes with the intel i7-4710HQ and gtx 860M 4GB. I've been trying to find the answer to my question but after hours of googling, I can't seem to find the answers I needed anywhere (I found nothing but conflicting answers), so here's my problem : I might buy a new monitor, possibly the LG ultrawide (2560x1080) the 29" model, and I need to know if my laptop's hdmi port can handle it. I need it for college work, some video editing, and gaming. It would be very helpful to know, thank you for your help.

i am going to upgrade the hard disk to an ssd on my laptop and i was wondering if i should upgrade the ram too and what benefits would i get from 8gb to 16gb? i mostly use the laptop for CAD school projects and games on this site i found many different rams that are compatible with the laptop http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for//lenovo-y50-70 the site says that both ddr3l and ddr3 and compatible with my laptop so i chose this one Crucial ram 8gb ddr3l tp1600Mhz CL11 http://www.amazon.de/dp/B006YG8X9Y/ref=twister_B00I0RJIC6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 but when i search ddr3l on wikipedia is says that it is not compatible with older non low voltage rams currently i have one stick of sodimm ram installed Hyundai 8GB DDR3 800Mhz 1.35V (according to cpu-z) and is samsung ssd 850 evo compatible with my laptop?

So this is the second time it happened and the first time it too a few days in the shop to fix. I was wondering if there was any way to use a external hard drive with a backup to make this thing work again. Pics are attached for the options. I've tried all the troubleshooting options and the obvious stuff like restarting

Hello my dear LTT Community! I've got a problem with my Lenovo y50 Laptop regarding its performance... I did nothing exceptional with it but since two days relatively basic games like Rocket League and CS:GO, even LoL started lagging for no good reason. One specific thing for Rocket League was that the sound also started to go crazy... There's constantly a cracking noise especially when the sound gets louder (already tested different earphones). But sadly, that's not the only performance problem because you can really notice the worse perfomance in windows itself... For instance if I start up a webpage it takes quite some time until i can start scrolling same with accessing the google search field or sth like that. Even navigating through the System Settings takes a lot more time and program start-ups are much slower as well. I already tried to clean up the registry and let those cleaners to their work, but nothing seemed to help. Also checked my Anti-Virus (avast) and after a complete scan nothing was found. So here are my specs: Lenovo y50 (non UltraHD monitor) Windows 10 64 bit Intel i7 4710 HQ 16 gb of RAM Nvidia GTX 960m 4gb VRAM 256 gb SSD storage I really hope that you guys can help me to find a solution Alex (Femex)

Hi guys, I need help. I bought a 4k version of Lenovo y50 with the 512 SSD. It has a dual GTX 960m and an intel integrated video. It has Windows 8.1 preinstalled on it but I hated it and decided I would install Windows 7 on it. By doing that I ended up deleting the partition that has the recovery and stuff. I was able to install Windows 7 but I didn't realize how difficult it was to find drivers for this laptop. I had to install the driver for the integrated graphics before I could install the geforce driver. Once the geforce driver gets installed all hell breaks loose. If I right click on the desktop the busy icon/cursor appears and won't go away. If I try to do anything that has to do with the display at all then the computer freezes. I tried installing the driver with geforce experience but same thing happens and geforce experience freezes as well. My guess is that it may be confused whether to use the integrated card or the GTX card. I really don't know, I'm not a tech genius or anything and I know I should have just stuck with the Windows 8.1 but It's too late now and I can't go back since that partition that allows me to go back was deleted. Is there anyone out there that can help me? please...

I have been looking for a laptop that can handle some moderate gaming (mostly war thunder and world of tanks). I know that the 960M can be overkill for these games, but I may give some more intensive titles like battlefield 4 a go and I'm perpared to play them at medium to high at 1080p-900p The Y50 seems to be in a good price where I live, and so far I couldn't find many other laptops at this price range from retailers. It seems like a good laptop but I heard that it's cooling and display aren't that great, so what do you guys think of it? Here a link to the laptop overview in lenovo's page: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/

Updated once again! TL;DR has been added to the bottom! Hello everyone! I own a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 and an Antlion 4.0 microphone which has given me much joy, rainbows and happiness for some time now on my desktop PC - onboard audio! This has been very satisfying, and I would say that I probably don't need anything that is better (This is just to inform you of my current standard and expectation of quality I want from my audio setup). So what's the problem...? I have exchanged my desktop for a laptop, Lenovo Y50, and to my big surprise: There was only one analogue audio port -> A combined headphone and microphone port! I have been through hell trying different splitters, software and "tips'n'tricks" with the purpose of making the combo-port behave properly. I hate it. I disgust it. I give up. So... Now I am in the search of a suitable DAC/soundcard that can love and be loved in return by the company of me and my setup. So far I came up with two options which have almost the same price: Asus Xonar U3: Bitrate: 16 bit Sample: 48hz Is a vendor/manufactuer/etc. that I trust and have never had a problem with. StarTech USB Stereo Audio Adapter bla.bla...: Bitrate: 24 bit Sample: 96hz (Almost) never heard of.... Is actually a bit cheaper. I'm not a total newbie in the field of audio, but I really want to know what you guys are thinking: Are any of these choices sensible? I was not able to find reviews for the StartTech option, and the Xonar U3 reviews were a bit disappointing. Other suggestions would be nice too: I might go as high as 100 USD for a DAC if the extra money makes a difference. Note: I live in Europe and I am not very good at soldering -> DIY from America/Canada might not be an option. Also, if you know how to "really fix" a combo-port, I would love to hear it -> The problem is, that the microphone frequently drops out and I have to re-plug them everytime I restart the PC. Thanks! EDIT : Sorry! I should probably also tell, that my audio is important for my music experience. I like a flat signature. It could be fun to have the option of EQ for boomy explosions in movies and games, but it is not a must. TL;DR : Cans: HD 598 Mic: Antlion 4.0 Suggest a USB and/or SPDIF soundcard that has seperate headphone and microphone jacks If it is better than onboard(Realtek ALC887), then I'll take it!

Hi everyone!! I'm new here and I wanted a bit of advice on purchasing a new laptop. I am looking for a decent gaming laptop that can play even the latest games. I don't really care if it runs on high/low settings as long as I have a decent FPS I will be happy. After looking around I found a deal on Amazon for USD 1200(Approx) I get a Lenovo Y50 -70 with: Core i7 4710 HQ 2.5 Ghz with turboclock upto 3.5Ghz 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD TN LED Display 8GB DDR3L RAM 1TB HDD with 8GB SSD Geforce GTX 860M with 4GB DDR5 VRAM Additionally I am getting a Dragonwar Leviathan ELE-G1 Laser Mouse and a Belkin F5L055QEBLK Cooling pad. So my questions are: Is the above combination worth the money? Can I play all games even if it is in the lowest setting and if not will upgrading my ram to 16GB make it work better? I've heard reviews where they say that the GTX 860M is 2GB and not 4GB but it says the same on the Lenovo website as well so I'm confused Do I need the Cooling pad or can I just use it without it? I am buying this in India so I do not have access to much in terms of options, the other options I have are the HP Envy 15 and a MSI which costs more than double with a Nvidia Quadro graphics card with same specs as the Y50 and windows 7 instead of 8.1 with the Y50. As mentioned I am on a budget and the max I would be able to do would be 1400 USD including delivery. Are there any other options available for me who will deliver in India? I posted this in the general discussion page by mistake and I cant seem to take it down either so I'm aorry for wasting the space

I plan on getting the Lenovo Y50, but one of the first things I'm probably going to upgrade is storage. The stock storage is 1TB SSHD + 8GB SSD all-in-one. I've always been a fan of SSD, so this will be a one up for me. What would be the best SSD that I can get around 500GB and is at least under $250? I would like to know soon. Thanks in advance. Specs more in-depth (for enthusiasts) Intel Core i7-4700HQ @ 2.4 GHz NVIDIA GTX-860M 2GB Graphics Card 8 GB DDR3 Windows 8.1 (64-bit) 15.6-Inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Display

So i recently purchased a Lenovo y50 for college and was thoroughly unimpressed with the hard drive that came pre-installed. I'm looking for a storage solution so that i can have a 120-240 ssd and also a 1tb hdd of some sort, as the lenovo y50 does not have multiple drive caddies i find this quite a dilema. I was looking into using the Mushkin Enhanced Ventura Ultra as a boot drive and also put a few programs onto it. Any suggestions on a solution to this predicament? My thanks in advance!!!

Hi everyone I'm pretty new to the LinusTechTips forum and I came here for help and ideas for my Lenovo y50. When I got this laptop I was really exicted about getting it. I got to replace my old 510p because it had problems with everything basically, but anyway when ever I play videos either flash videos like youtube or even movies or tv shows I have stored on my hard drive on the y50 the videos would lag for a second. On Flash videos the picture would freeze for a moment but the sound would play and for my personal videos the whole video would stop sound and picture for like a second also. For me it's really noticeable and it kind of annoys me. I haven't even had the laptop for long and there are these problems that I can't find solutions for it. The worst part is that it happen right after I got it and used it for the first time. I tried looking online to see what the problem is, but it doesn't seem like people post about it so I'm not sure. I even called Lenovo for help but that didn't really work out. If someone could help I would really appreciate it. It frustrating when a new laptop does this. If it helps it's the 59421847 model on lenovo and I tried Chrome Firefox and Explorer for my web browsers. Thank you for the help in advance.

i been shopping about for a laptop for a while, the Lenovo i had (RIP) a Lenovo t510 was a good work horse. anyways I am looking for a quad crore as a bit of an upgrade putting me mostly onto gamming style laptops. i that respect i found link Processor Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor( 2.50GHz 1600MHz 6MB) Operating system Windows 8.1 64 Display type 15.6" Ultra HD IPS Glare LED Backlit 3840x2160 System Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB Total memory 16.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz Hard drive device 1TB + 8GB Optical device DVD Recordable Network card Lenovo BGN Wireless for about £1000 (with student ds) otherwise £1100 you get the quad core a good gpu with 4gb vram, a 4k ips screen!, 16gb ram, i can’t find any hands on reviews of the uhd model. Some for the 1080p but not the 4k is the uhd screen just poo, like 30hz poo or is it better. Lenovo are not that forthcoming. 4k used to cost allot making me suspicious finding it at this price point as otherwise the spec is crazy for the cash. I guessing there are probably also thermal issues (but how bad), this thing could be a linus video Has anyone got hands on experience allot of the threads are from ces in January, now its in shops and I assume people own them
