I have some old family videos on miniDV tapes. Since it's a digital format, it should be possible to get a 1:1 copy of the bits on the tapes. I'm trying to find a hardware/software combo to achieve that. Equipment available to me: • Camcorder the miniDVs were recorded on, with 4-pin FireWire DV output. • Custom-built PC running Ubuntu 23.10 • MacBook Air M1 running macOS 14.0 Sonoma • Power Mac G5 with 6-pin and 8-pin FireWire ports, running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard What's my best option for capturing a 1:1 copy of the bits on the tape?? • Modern PC with OBS (needs FireWire —> USB cable) • Modern PC with dvgrab (needs FireWire —> USB cable) • MacBook Air M1 with OBS (needs FireWire —> Thunderbolt cable) • Power Mac G5 with Final Cut/iMovie (FireWire native)

Hey all! I am currently in the process of buying and subsequently building my first pc. Now, the build is only in the future currently, but I have been looking through prices both on local (Hungarian) markets and on PC part picker for the US prices. The not-so-funny thing I have found is the PC which would currently cost about 1460 USD if I imported the parts, would jump up to about 2063 USD if I bought it locally. Now, of course, this is a bit of a problem, considering the fact that if I had 2000 dollars then I wouldn't want to build a 1500 dollar PC. So, what do you guys think about importing the parts from the other side of the world? How much could it go wrong? What would you guys do?

When AV1 encoding support was released on OBS Studio, I wanted to try it out. However, I'm having trouble importing the encoded clips into Adobe Premiere Pro. Does Adobe Premiere Pro support AV1? The error is detailed below: Here are my OBS encoder settings: I read online that I may have to use a third party app to convert the video clips, but I was wondering if there was any other way.

Hello. I live in Mexico and I found here a GPU with reasonable price so I bought one for me and one extra. I want to give it at the same price to a friend that lives in the States. But I don't know about import taxes there, if I send the card via DHL will he then have to pay taxes for it? We want to know if between shipping and taxes it will not be worth it at all.

Quotes What is import duty into EU since forever - 7%? And then 20-24% sales tax on top of that. Don't think Americans will get any sympathy from European GPU buyers. Source: https://www.guru3d.com/news_story/in_the_new_yearthe_united_states_may_reimpose_gpu_import_tariffs.html

Hi, I'm in the process of ordering on LTT store but I'm wondering if I will need to pay import taxes after shipping to Belgium. My order says estimated taxes at $12.60 and $24.99 for shipping. Also does anybody know if LTT will offer black friday/cyber monday discounts? If yes I'll wait a few days to order. Thanks, Pj

Hey guys. Back when I bought my GoPro 3+ Black Edition in 2014 I'd keep a day's worth of footage in my microSD card. When I got home I'd plug the GoPro in, open the directory where the footage was located (something like Gopro>DCIM>GOPRO100) and I could just play back the videos and photos. For me it was much easier because I could erase whatever videos I didn't want on the spot and just copy the rest to my HDD. With some firmware update this turned out to be no longer possible and whenever I double click to play a video a Windows transfer window pops up (like I'm copy-pasting it from a folder to another) and only then it plays back the file. I can't even see any thumbnails besides VLC's icon. Do you know of some way I can play the videos directly from GoPro's directory without having to downgrade the firmware? Thanks!

Source: The Verge Apple has been denied exclusions on five parts for the Mac Pro which will lead to the components in question subject to a 25% import tax. It might not be all doom and gloom for Apple though, as the company says a US manufacturing might be worthwhile due to the value of the new Mac Pro, and the migration of manufacturing of the new Mac Pro to Austin, TX. This confirmation follows in the footsteps of the ongoing trade war between USA - or just Donald Trump for that matter - and China, in which Trump has a firm foot in the ground to disable American companies from importing from China. 25% import tax sounds like it'll bite the multi-billion dollar Apple, the question remains on how this will affect Mac Pro manufacturing, sales, as well as profit for them. It doesn't help Apple - or by extension any American company - that Trump is so adamant to stop China trade, Tim Cook has previously spoken out about the trade war and how much it might hurt the company. It will also be interesting to see how Apple does with its manufacturing now that they have moved manufacturing from China to Austin, TX. Plenty of changes and plenty of improvisation and adaptation to be done by Apple in particular.

Hey, i am building a site at work using node js, i need it to run a cmd commands (figured out how to do it with shell_process), but the thing is, that i need to run this as a function that parse the data and process it a bit, then retrun it to be compared, displayed and stroed in a db. I also need to run it multiple times, so i figured that putting the function in an external js file, but i cant for the life of me, get the output from the function into the main function, not even to a console.log. Is there any way to use the stdout of the shell_process in the main app? I can really use the help, it is holding me back so badly... Thanks

So i've never really bought a card directly from the site before. 699$ for the 3080 just seems too good of a price and the performance seems to be well worth it compared to the 20xx series. I'm looking to make the jump from my 1060 to a 3080 for 1440p and higher gaming. I was really excited! My original intention was to buy a 20xx series card( which are incredibly overpriced in my country). Most tech in my country is really overpriced due to import tax and stuff. (I question whether the import tax they charge is even legal but i feel as though our import sector is far too corrupt and looking to make a quick buck off people who can afford to buy things like this and there's really no one that can challenge that sector). Imports can charge upto even 200% of the item price when the item is right outside your doorstep and you've already paid for it. Prices are going to take a while to change even for the 20xx series in my country which still cost upwards of 1000$ for a 2080 super... and will continue to cost that way till the new cards start getting imported in. So i intend on just getting the card and having it hand-carried home or collecting it when i visit the states. ;__; Since this is my first time ordering from the nvidia site i also had a few questions. (i can't order directly to pakistan because import tax will rip me apart with a 1500-1600$+ charge for the 3080). I'm really looking forward to cyberpunk 2077 as well like you have no idea how much hype i have. As its looking rn i will not be able to have the card in my ownership till... december/january at the latest which is really disappointing considering i was JUST about to buy a 20xx on 5th september. But alas i'm hoping i can find some solution or a relative that's visiting from the US. Now to my questions. 1) It only gives me a option to deliver to the USA on nvidia website. Would it be possible for me to say send the card to London or something? (i have a few relatives coming over from London) 2) I'm big confused here. it takes me big brain energy to not instantly gratify myself with a 20xx series purchase but that would just be dumb at this point lol. Is there anything i can potentially do here? tired of living in a country where my currency is so devalued compared to the value of a $ and i still have to pay so much more money than regular consumers T_T. 3) What is the exact process of ordering from the nvidia website directly? Yeah that's basically it. I apologize if this wasn't the correct space to post this.... I did try to look around and wasn't able to find a suitable tag for this heading. Hey and this is the first forum i've used in ages! Seems to be fun here. Oh and if anyone is coming from the states to PAK between 17th-30th pls lemme kno kthx c:::

Hi All, Has anyone had any experience of buying a gpu from the US/Canada and having it delivered to them in the UK? I'm interested to know what import tax was like as the value of a new high end GPU in the states is so much lower than the UK. Would it be worth paying the import duty to make a saving? I get warranties and returns might not be valid, but I'd be interested to see the mark up.

TL;DR- Friendly, quick-to reply customer service coupled with timely updates, shipping and communication for orders- FastTech has been an uneventful shopping experience- just how it should be for shopping for computers and gets my endorsement. Order History (time in PST): (I cannot confirm nor deny any actions, conversations, or correspondences that may or may not have happened below for obvious reasons): 18th July, 12:06PM: Created FastTech account 19th July, 11:52AM: Placed Order for Xiaomi Notebook Pro w/ DHL Express Shipping, gift-wrapping, and hardbox packaging 22nd July, 8:15PM: Contacted by FastTech to whether I wanted to change the declared value on the package; their message (email and ticket on their site) said if I didn't reply back in 24 hours, the package would be shipped with its true vale. 23rd July, 7:45AM: Replied back asking the declared value of the package to $400 (value of Xiaomi's cheapest notebook) 23rd July, 7:16PM: Followed up with FastTech's live chat about an update about changing the packages declared value since I hadn't heard back from their support yet, and was nervous about it shipping with a declared value of over $1,000. Was told that their colleague would look into it as soon as possible. 23rd July, 8:34PM: Received confirmation that the order would be shipped with my asked value. 24th July, 5:53AM: Received order shipping confirmation (tracking number not working though; website asked waiting for 2 days for it to activate though) 25th July, 6:46PM: Received updated tracking number via email and support ticket; my orders page was updated with a picture of the package and tracking number. 27th July, 10:10AM: Received by me. Pictures of Packaging: https://imgur.com/a/kAxDqI7 Proof of Purchase: https://imgur.com/a/qe4pD6l Notes on packaging: When initially opening the package- I wished there was more bubble wrap around the inside box, but given the laptop box itself was enclosed in soft packaging foam- it wouldn't have helped a lot anyways in hindsight and would only serve to increase the already expensive shipping costs. There was a minor dent in the exterior packaging, but but the innermost box for the notebook itself was undamaged. The notebook box itself still had it's original shrink wrap on and security stickers- it was brand new There was some odor when opening the box, but the actual package enclosed in shrink wrap was odor free. For $1.50, the hard box and gift wrapping was well worth it; moreso since if opened by customs- gifts are usually not dutied at all. The above is as objective and factual as I can get it to be, that all said, if you want to hear more about my experience as I delve into the subjective, read on! Why did I not want to choose FastTech Little to no customer reviews nor shopping experiences on high end electronics purchases. Website looked outdated/ sketchy with unmatched fonts and styles Missing as a recommended seller under the r/Xiaomi wiki Why did I choose FastTech? Some subreddits (mostly those around ecigs and vaping of all places, with some scattered posts on tech ones) held their customer service among the best in the industry for imports from China- both in responsiveness and professionalism. This was the biggest reason atleast for me for going through with them- I wanted someone to have my back incase something went wrong and not have to deal bad customer service with weeks in CS replies for shipping delays, damaged goods, etc.; and atleast from what I read- that wouldn't be the case with them, which was a huge relief over others like GearBest whom were plagued with horror stories around delays and non-responsiveness. Their return policies were far better than GearBest, BangGood, Aliexpress and I could pay through PayPal- if something went wrong and if they refused to cooperate- I could go through PayPal. I mean, to quote their website- "FastTech reimburses return shipping charges. Contact us for a RMA, within 5 days of delivery, and ship products back via the least expensive method."; aka- they cover back a 100% of shipping fees during that 5 day return window. Comparable price to GearBest, BangGood, and Aliexpress (not really a shopping factor for me; $25-50 here or there is a bit trivial when you're paying $1,000+ for a laptop), I'd rather pay more for better CS. They may or may not offer changing the value of packages that they ship as well as gift wrapping them, which means paying little to nothing at all in customs duty. I read horror stories of people being charged over $200 for duties which would be crazy expensive for a laptop, so this, if true, would also have been a strong reason for me going through with them. Their policies said they would work as a middleman between the customer and Xiaomi itself if anything goes wrong after 6 months and up until a year after the order date to fix the device. Other notes: Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my experience- it was uneventful and required minimal input from me after placing my order- just like how anything that was ordered online should be. Atleast from my experience with them- I feel confident recommending them to others and they're definitely going to be my go-to for ordering products in the future if the need to do so arises again. From staff that replied in quite literally hours in legible/ clear English to actually adding a photo of the box as it shipped- buying from them has been a really stress-free experience.

Hi, I've ordered 5 packs of assorted flavours from Savage Jerky to be delivered here in Portugal back in July of 2017. The order went through OK and was shipped. The trouble started when it arrived at the Customs Office and after a couple of months of sending and receiving documentation I was informed that there was a ban on all meat products from outside the EU since about 2009. The shipment was to be destroyed and I would received a request for information about the said order and they informed me of the possibility of fines due to said ban on importation of meat products. And sure enough I've just received today a letter from our Food & Veterinary Administration requesting information on the order and the shipper/producer. My question is: has anybody here from the EU that had ordered Savage Jerky's jerky had the same problem? Or did the order arrived without problems?

After the recent launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, I have been hearing that Xiaomi will not officially release the new phone in the United States market, probably because of all the stuff the government is doing to get rid of Chinese phone companies. Anyway, I am considering importing the phone and I just wanted to understand the pro's and con's of buying an imported phone, if there are any. I know many Australians import cheaper phones, but obviously I'm not in Australia. Thanks!

If someone wins an international giveaway from a different country other than the US, do they need to pay money for the import taxes?

Sorry for being so 20th century but this was a question that exist even now. Being an Expat from India in Saudi Arabia I am constantly asked by friends and family to buy electronics from Saudi even though the same product is available in India. It is believed that electronics items bought from Saudi Arabia has better quality than that from India. So does quality of product, lets say a Gaming Laptop, varies with location of purchase? I just wanted to straighten up my facts before I decline to do their shopping.

Hi all, I'm looking at a couple of sandybridge server/WS parts on eBay, but they're based in China. Shipping is only $5, but eBay says I might be charged additional customs fees etc... Has anyone done this who can add some input here? I'd be looking to import a dual socket motherboard (EEB form factor) and it's at least $450. Thanks!

Any help or suggestions would be great

Hi, I'm building a project in java and I need to import an image file inside the res folder, but I've tried to add it to the build path but i still can't access. Although it looks like it's added as you can see from the pictures. This is where the code throws an exception: class someclass{ private static BufferedImage image = ImageReader.readToBufferedImage("/textures/letters.png"); /* .... */ } public class ImageReader{ public static BufferedImage readToBufferedImage(String path){ BufferedImage image; try{ image = ImageIO.read(new File(path)); return image; } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } The exception that gets thrown by the image reader is: javax.imageio.IIOException: Can't read input file! at javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(Unknown Source) Have I missed something. Thanks in advance.
