Hi, everyone. I am a student that's doing some research. I got an impedance analyzer that I use to do some tests for materials. These tests are the same for different samples. But there are a lot of them. So I hope to write a program to automate this process. But I got no idea where to begin or even which forum to ask. I know Matlab, C (with keil), and a bit of Python. But I go no idea where to start. There is a program on matlab that can read the data. But it can't control the analyzer. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Anything would be helpful. The impedance analyzer I use is Agilent 4294A Precision Impedance Analyzer. I consulted the programming manual. It can be connected to a laptop with GPIB to USB port. It uses Basic language.

I was planning to buy a pair of "good" headphones like the beyerdynamic DT 550 or 990 which have a pretty high impedance at 80 and 250 Ohms respectably. The Amp I am using is an Yamaha RX-V571. How high is the impedance on the 6.3mm jack there; so In can know what pair to buy.

Hello guys i have a question about this combo. Recently i have buyed the HD560 i am very happy about them, now i am trying to get the best experience from them. The impedance of the Headphone is 120 ohm while the Soundblaster G6 has 2 setting: - Low 16-149 ohm - High 150-600 ohm What is the best for this headphones? Could be a stupid question probably, but i am ignorant on the argument. Someone told me that higher is better but i don't understand why, thank for the patience

In my computer I have a dedicated soundcard (Creative Sound Blaster AE-5) and it can run headphones up to 600 ohms via its dedicated headphone jack (separate from speaker jack). But I would like to have easier (and cleaner) access to plug in/out my headphones. Is it possible to use an audio extension cable from that plug, or will this hinder the impedance somehow? Headphones requires 65 ohms of impedance. And no, I'm not gonna buy an external DAC, as the AE-5 is more than excellent once it is setup properly.

Hello everyone, recently bought the beyerdynamic dt990 pro 250ohm, they sound pretty good , but i was wondering if i needed to buy an amp to power them properly, the headphones are plugged into a xonar dg soundcard, any recomendation?

Hello guys! I'm thinking of buying a pair of DT770 pro's 80 Ohm to use with my phone and laptop. They'll be replacing my Marshall Major II because they become quite uncomfortable after 4-5 hours of continuous use, which is a daily scenario. But i'm worried if my phone (Honor 7) will be able to drive them. For comparison: the Marshall headphones are 60 Ohm and are perfect at about a third of the volume slider and really hurt at the maximum volume. I know it's only 20 Ohm but I'm just asking to make sure Thanks a lot!

I'm specifically interested in DT990 but other products also come with different impedance, and I'm wondering if there are significant differences among those and/or higher ohm version is 'better'. Some people say barely no difference while the others assert significant differences, but the latter always start writing a freaking poem about it so I really can't trust them. Another question is whether modern motherboard will be able to handle 600 ohms; here says MSI b350 board can drive 250 ohm without a problem, and here says even older motherboard could handle 600 ohm. The motherboard of my concern is Gigabyte ga-ab350 gaming.

Hello LTT Forum! I have been looking into buying the Audio Technica ATH-M20X for quite some time now. However, I have come to a standstill in decision making. The M20X allegedly has great audio quality and lightweight design, while still maintaining good earcups. This sounds like a winner to me. Recently I wondered if their impedance (47Ohms) is too much for an iPad Air 2 to drive. I have seen videos with people testing them on the iPhone 5s with good volume but I'm still not convinced. Will these headphones sound as good as possible while still maintaining volume on an iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 2? I have been unable to find any information on the maximum headphones impedance recommended to be used on an iPad. Sorry for the long thread, but, is there any better options for iPad (mobile) headphones? With great audio quality, robust design and comfortable fit? I dislike earphones so I'm having a hard time finding my perfect audio match... Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I just found out that the impedance is 5ohm, not 25ohm I want to replace the faulty speaker in my woofer which is making a cracking noise. The original speaker says it is 10w 5ohm (printed on speaker). However, I am unable find one on Amazon with the same rating. Is it ok to fit a 35w one without the risk of burning my house down? Also, does the impedance matter? Thanks.

Hello guys, I am currently shopping for some new headphones as my old Siberia V2's just gave out. I narrowed my choice down to the Sennheiser HD599, Beyerdynamic BT880 pro and 990 pro. These have the most features I want in a headset and at a price point I'm comfortable with. If any of you have experience using any of these let me know, I'll greatly appreciate any additional feedback! I wanted to know in the event I went with one of the beyerdynamic ones, whether or not I'd be able to drive them without having to turn my volume all the way up as they have a 250ohm impedance. I have a Maximus VIII Hero and from what I've heard it has great built-in audio, I wanted to know whether or not this was true and whether I could trust Asus' marketing material advertising it would drive anything with up to a 600ohm impedance. Hi all! I have the interface of the title, and I want to buy the dt990 headphones, I am afraid that due to their impedance they do not work well, on many internet sites people say that they work well without an amplifier but I would like to know their opinions. I have seen videos of people who use headphones with laptops and cell phones without without and external amp/dac and they say they work well, I find it hard to believe that a Motorola cellphone has a more powerful amp than an audio interface, that's why I am positive that they work well, but at end i have no idea. Just for reference, I usually use a sony mdr-zx110 with the volume at 50% and when mixing I use them with the knob at 3 clock. If an amplifier is absolutely necessary, would it be nice to buy the behringer ha400?

So here's the deal. (Im not very familiar with audio setups, so please excuse my incompetance) I got two Logitech Z906 systems mounted in a caravan me and some mates use at festivals during the summer. The systems are connected thusly: Phone connects to a MyJack bluetooth-to-aux reciever, sending it's signal into a "Music X2 controller" wich uses the AUX signal and a 230V to 12V 150W converter to power a long strip of LED's (synchronized to the music). The aux cable continues via the music controllers output, going 2 meters before reaching a Y-splitter, going to the 2 different Z906's. I'm contemplating splitting the signal via another Y-cable (before it reaches the splitter mentioned above), to power 2 of those tiny "water-dancing" speakers, just for the little extra ligthing. Question here is: does a phone output a strong enough sound signal to provide a z906 with it's recommended signal strength? Does it even matter when the speaker has a built in amp? Does it still provide sufficiently with an aux-splitter (how much does it weaken the signal). I do feel like the systems play alittle quietly...

i bought a new beyerdynamic dt 990 premium(250 ohm) and i think the sound is not loud enough, if i use vlc player and set the volume to maximum then its fine other than that like while playing csgo or watching youtube videos it isnt loud enough so i am planning to buy an dac/amplifier(whatever is more appropriate) my budget is not that high so i was looking for the Fiio A3 E11K Portable Headphone Amplifiermy question is, will that be good enough or is there something better around that price range?and what exactly do i need dac or amplifier?my motherboard is maximus vii hero which has an amplifier of 150(it detected the headphone to be higher than that so it automatically got set to 150,which is the highest i think)

I'm currently in the process of reorganising my studio and at the same time, upgrading my audio. Currently I use the on-board audio output of my Asus ROG Strix B350-F Gaming to output to a Logitech LS21 2.1 Speaker system. Since I plugged it into there, I get a "Your rear line out impedance is equal to or higher than 110ohm". The system currently has itself configured as Stereo audio with the Amplify Level set at Extreme. My first question is, is it safe to run that, as as that message about impedance appears almost like a warning, but doesn't show any distinguishing features like a warning normally would. My second question is, that I plan to upgrade to a 5.1 system in the near future, should I purchase a system that operates via a single line out from the motherboard and then deals with the amplification itself (Such as the Logitech Z506 5.1 system) or should I obtain speakers that I can run directly from the motherboards on-board audio output? Hopefully this makes sense, but if not, feel free to tell me and I will gladly try to help any way that I can.

I'm considering switching to the DT770 Pro's from my M50Xs due to finding them quite uncomfortable during prolonged periods of use. One thing I'm not sure on though is, even after reading this: http://support.beyerdynamic.com/hc/en-us/articles/202503041-Which-DT-770-for-which-source- is why would you want higher impedance if they are "harder" to drive? Surely you would just get the 32 Ohm version because anything can drive it ? I don't have a dedicated DAC/AMP at the moment as I'm just using my onboard audio but may invest in the future. Thank you.

The bass is very low on my new Sennheiser G4ME Zeros, which I know is a common problem among PCs with bad integrated sound cards. The requirements state a minimum of 50 Ohms, but my motherboard can output 600 Ohms so I don't see why I have this problem. (Yes they are connected directly in to the motherboard, not in the case. lol) Motherboard: MSI z97 MPower MAX AC

My understanding of amp output impedance is that you should aim to use headphones that have at least 8x the impedance than the output impedance of the amp. I thought amps which had a high output impedance were just an example of cheap equipment but then.. I saw this.. http://www.vickershifi.com/products/paaurium/pathos-aurium-headphone-amplifier A £900 headphone amp with adjustable output impedance of 16-1000 Ohm.. So..Why would you ever want to increase the output impedance and why is the minimum output impedance so high compared to much cheaper headphone amps?

Hey, So i have spent a couple hours trying to understand speaker vs amp impedance, what works and what doesn't. The AV recievers i have been looking at are all rated for 6-16 ohms of impedance when looking at the speaker terminals, and pretty much every speaker i have been looking at is 4 ohms, so i decided to attempt to do some research on how that would affect the setup, and to my understanding, hooking up 4 ohm speakers to an amp rated for 6-16 ohm speakers would risk blowing the amp. In finding that out, i decided to take a look at my current speakers (a pair of Dali 104's), and i found out they are also 4 ohm. Then i took a look at my current Denon stereo amp powering them, and it's also rated for 6-16 ohm speakers. This simply left me confused, especially as the amp has been working with that pair of speakers for well over a decade with no problems what-so-ever. It doesn't even get hot, just barely warm. So i'm left with one of these impressions: My amp is fueled by magic I misunderstood some fundamental concept of impedance Somehow my speaker wire adds a couple of ohms to the speaker? Anyone with some knowledge mind enlightening me? In advance, thanks Chris (Zerote)

Hello, So im about to jump on the Massdrop for AKG K7XX headphones. This will be the first pair of good headphones i will own . I will primarily use these with my laptop (Asus G750JH) or phone (currently Lumia 920). From what i understand you generally want impedance to be low if you use headphones with portable devices. The Massdrop page says they are rated for 62 ohms. Will my laptop/phone be able to drive them (not necessarily at full volume) or will i need to get an amp. Second what happens if the impedance is too high for a device, will quality be affected or just max volume? Thank you so much in advance

Hi all, I've recently bought a HyperX Cloud headset and trying to use it with the onboard SupremeFX driver on my Maximus VII Hero. When I plug in the headset to the front audio jack on the Define R4 case, SonicSense within SupremeFX automatically detects headphone impedance. It will make a pop noise during detection, then conclude that the headphone is between 65 to 150 ohms impedance. However, isn't the HyperX Cloud a 60 ohm headset? The effect of this (I think) is it's making sounds by default sound very mushy and hollow(?) - i.e. like there's hardly any bass and lots of sharp tearing noises in games or music. (I'm not too good with audio, but this is very noticeable, especially since it is a gaming headset). There's no way to disable or change the impedance setting in SupremeFX other than to set the device as "Front Speaker Out" when plugging in, which doesn't disable my external speakers. SupremeFX driver is latest to date v6.0.1.7326. So my questions are: 1. Is this wrong impedance detecting bad for the headset? 2. Anyone have similar issues have any other suggestions (preferably without having to spend any more money)?

Hey there guys The Yulong U100 DAC/AMP combo is currently on massdrop and I'm planning to get one. Now, since I dont have a pair of good heaphones this will be the next thing on my list. The problem is, that I cant really find any evidence on what the Yulong U100 can power... regarding the impedance of the headphones. I was looking at the Beyerdynamic DT880's 240ohm. Does anyone have this unit or knows the range of power it provides? I found reviews where the reviewer said that Sennheiser HD600 which are rared at 300ohms were also driven by the unit, but then i find other reviews where 62ohms didnt really sound good... I dont know what to think of it Thanks for any replies

Hi, I have a Xonar Essence Stx sound card with a pair of HD 558's. The soundcard can output 300~600 ohms (+18db). The headphones has, in the specs impedance of 50 ohms though. So will it, if I turn the impedance up over the headphones limit, be bad for the headphones in any way, will I benefit from it or will it just not do anything and, since I'm a bit new to all of this audio stuff, what will it do if I turn up the impedance, is it better quality or what (Think of this last question as if I had headphones supporting impedance all the way up to 300 ohms. So basically what does it really do..) ? As you can see I'm quite new to this so if there is anything else you think I should know or you need to know to be able to answer the question just ask!

My current audio setup is far from awesome and my "equipment" is as follows: Headphones: Klipsch Image S4-II Portable listening device: Nexus 4 Desktop audio source: On board audio for low-mid end Asus Z77 Motherboard (Realtek) I am upgrading to new headphones but have a number of questions. The two headphones I'm considering are Audio Technica ATH-M50x and Sennheiser HD8 DJ. My first question is about impedance. According to their respective websites the M50x's impedance is 34 ohms and the HD8's are 95 ohms. I'm pretty sure for both headphones it would be wise to also get something like an Objective 2 with ODAC for desktop use. However, my real question is about using the headphones with my phone (Nexus 4). I have used someone else's M50's with my phone before and I know the Nexus 4 can drive them pretty well. I'm fairly certain that my phone would struggle to drive the Sennheiser's. Another small point is that I've heard the Nexus 4 has some safety limits on volume that can be changed with a custom kernel (Franco's kernel). Does anybody know anything about this? Tl;dr Can a Nexus 4 with or without software modifications drive Sennheiser HD8 DJ's (95 ohm impedance headphones) to a reasonably high volume? If not, are there any portable amps or hardware that you could recommend that could work in a pocket (provide free movement)? Are there any headphone amps that work well as a portable source and as a desktop solution? Is on board low-end Realtek audio enough to drive Audio Technica ATH-M50x's? Thank you in advance for your answers. I have already done research on this but I would like to hear from people with knowledge on the topic or personal experience with these specific situations.

Okey, i have done threads about which headphones i should buy, now it stands between the ath-m50's and custom one pro's. I've heard the sound of the cop's are similar to the m50's, but then there's this talk about the impedance, low vs high etcetc. What should i buy!? It's just too hard to make a decision. Will a low-impedance pair of headphones get bad side-effects on a desktop? I like the way the m50's sound generally, but i don't like the thin base, tho when i tried them i used them with my phone. What does the impedance determinates? Will i hear any bad side-effects on a low-impedance pair of headphones (read custom one pro) when i use them on my desktop?

So I was thinking, cause in a month or two I'll be shifting my phone and I'm looking for a good pair of headphones to go with it. Currently I'm stuck with some piece of crap, because my LG Cooke doesn't even have 3,5 mm jack. I'm looking at Sony Xperia J and maybe Audio-Technica ATH M35. My concern is 65 ohm impedance of those bastards. Will that phone be enough to drive them? Also the cord is 3,4m long (11ft) so where will I hide that. Maybe get someone to cut it in half and solder connector at the end... I need advice guys. And if you think my pick is horrible, feel free to suggest something else, but consider that M35 are already stretching my budget.
