Hi, I'm working on a chassis design and I have a question regarding how a start button functions. (not sure if this is the right subforum) Normally, the front IO start button cables are plugged into two motherboard connectors, plus and minus. But if there is no start button present, you can start the PC by making contact to both the + and - pins on the motherboard with an electrically conductive material and flipping the power switch on the power supply. So if i want to fabricate a custom power button, will it work like i've drawn in this picture? Sorry for the poor quality of the drawing, I hope it still conveys what i mean. The contact between the metal piece and wire ends essentially close the loop which starts the PC, is this correct?

I/O is important if you want to plug in any external devices. So, what I/O do you make sure a laptop has when considering purchasing a laptop? My priority is this: 1. Headphone Jack. I do want to listen to my tunes in peace. 2. USB-A. Still have several devices that require USB-A, so I'll need at least one for an external hard drive. 3. SD Card. My Nintendo Switch has a 128 GB Card, so I'll need one in case the Switch's SD Card needs to be empty out of its photo gallery. 4. USB-C. I only need it if I want to import photos from my iPhone to my laptop via USB-C Cable, but it's not really important for me. That's it for me. Any other ports on the laptop I don't see a utility for now.

I am at the verge of purchasing an iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Generation) 2018; because I know the 2020 model doesn't have many significant upgrades in addition to price. However, I had some concerns pertaining to its I/O V.S. the iPad Pro 2020. I am a University Student and purchasing for note-taking (Notability and with Apple Pencil), media consumption and occasional video editing (LumaFusion). I came across this USB-C Hub (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M8QR83T/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=ALKJOI57VEXOD&psc=1) and wanted to know if the iPad Pro 2018 has I/O restrictions as opposed to the iPad Pro 2020. With this hub, would I really be able to connect an ethernet, HDMI, mouse, keyboard, HDD and 3.5mm audio jack simultaneously? Would all components function in the iPad Pro 2018?

Hey all, hopping somebody has some idea what’s up I can’t find anything like it on the internet. So I’ve had my pc for a good while now and I’ve noticed for a long time that when I’m trying to plug in a usb on the I/O my Monitor will blink black screen sometimes, I chalked it up to some Electrical interference didn’t thinelectrical interference I wasn’t too worried about it but last night my headphones get robotic and garbled sometimes and the only way to fix it is to unplug and re-plug the USB and I know that’s why I was trying to get it in the port the RGB on my 3 GPU fans turned all off but one then back on. I was able to recreate it to. So I guess the blinks on my monitor is the graphics card not the monitor. This ring any bells for anyone ? Not even sure how to go about this

I have a Cooler Master MasterCase H500M but my motherboard dose not support all the I/O cables coming from the case. I'm new to PCs and don't know if there is such a thing to combine all the usb 3 and c cables so that they all work from one connection for my motherboard. The motherboard is and Asus tuf x570 thanks.

I was given this none brand USB (16GB), and tried to install ubuntu 22.10 on it. I made the partitions and all but after launching the installation process, the installer halted for a while before throwing an error "Errno 30 : Read only file system" I went back to windows and tried to access the usb, but i was met with one parition with garbled symbols as the name. I tried using Diskpart and clean the drive but nothing worked, i tried using a third party software but nothing. Is there any way i can fix it?. Unfortunately i can't find the name of the brand.

So I was thinking about setting up some Intel NUCs (or any other Microcomputer) that would have a like Arch Linux set up where when you wake it up it shows up with a menu with VMs and real machines. So my problem when a family member would want to do some stuff on Windows 7 for making a photo book or whatever, they could open up their VM and Iit would be seamless for them. How would I add the capability to have USB ports on the NUC act like they were physically attached to the VM(i.e when she plugs in a usb into the NUC it automatically shows up on the VM) or any other I/O for that matter? I have/will have the follwing Dell Poweredge 2950 running Proxmox , with Intel NUC Clients running Arch Linux.

I found this front panel USB C connector on Lian-Li's site: http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pw-ic01nh45/ Does anyone know where one is available for purchase or where an alternative can be purchased? (I am in the U.K.) (I have preordered a SENTRY and am looking to add USB C to the front I/O.)

Greetings. I just got my MX master, and noticed intermittent yet significant skipping issues when it's plugged into a USB 3.0 port on the rear I/O panel. Are you supposed to plug wireless mouse receivers into the front panel? I have only two USB ports there and I'd rather save them for external HDDs, my card reader, and flash drives. Regards, Aereldor.

(in all of this, I'm referring to the Define S as my case, and the Z270-A as my motherboard) I built my first entire PC from scratch about a week ago. Everything is fine except for the front audio ports. I have headphones and speakers, but only the green audio port in the back of my mobo works. All the connectors from the front are fine, the power button, restart, usb ports, but not the audio port. When I plug in my headphones, there's nothing and its not detected in realtek. When I plug my speakers in, hissing. I've checked my motherboard at this point many times to see if I plugged everything in correctly, and I'm fairly certain I have. Double checked manual as well. I just didn't know what to do at this point, so I posted here. Thanks for reading

So I have the NZXT S340 Elite case, and I am considering to maybe mod the top I/O part of the case to add in a USB Type-C port. I checked the case, and next to the HDD LED, there is about 1.5 inches of flat metal with no electronics. If I am to drill a hole the size of a Type-C port and reroute a USB-C extension cable from the rear I/O to the top, what would that entail? What materials would I need? How hard would it be? And also while I'm in there, is it possible to fit a micro sd card reader next to it too? Thanks!

Hi so um, my Alienware 13 has been damaged generally in the back I/O side of the laptop, I was looking around for that part through ebay and other stores but ive found nothing. Currently my best bets are to buy a dead alienware 13 off eBay or take it to Dell support and pay 259 US Dollars + Taxes, ouch. I dont want to do either of these because its just a silicone plastic piece held by 4 screws so if any of you have any suggestions as to what i should do or if i should suck it up and pay the money. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure why but whenever I try to connect my monitor to the ports on the back I/O of the motherboard, i always get no signal. However as soon as I connect my monitor to a graphics card, the monitor produces a signal and works instantly. Does anyone have any idea as to why the monitor gets a signal from a GPU but not from the I/O connection on the motherboard itself. The issue is, that i'm trying to build an old system, but i can't actually progress with the build because the monitor produces no signal on the motherboard I/O. And i need the GPU for my main system for gaming. This is my old motherboard if you're wondering.

Hi there, I want to mod the Mastercase Maker 5's front I/O and make it RGB instead of just red - Is it possible to remove the entire unit from the case in order to do this? Also, anyone know if getting into the I/O component is possible or have a picture of the inside of the casing? I'm hoping that Cooler Master will make a controllable panel at some point - perhaps with the USB 2.0 removed and a 3.1 / 3.2 interface with the new connector added in its place. Heres hoping. Cheers! (Photos are just a crude reference of what I want to do...apologies for the rubbish quality)

Looking for a case where the motherboard is backwards so you have all the ports in the front.

How far can you stretch an I/O docking station and by what method is best. Personally I'm looking to get no more than 50ft with is a tall order. I have 2 HDMI cables, 1 component cable (with audio), 1 usb 2.0, and 1 ethernet cable going from my desktop in the basement to my studio room on the top floor. It's really about 40ft for each cable but the extra is nice to have. I would like to combine all of that to 1 cable and in one of Linus' personal rig updates, he used a Thunderbolt Cable to go between his personal rig and his peripherals in the other room. I have a feeling Thunderbolt is much like usb where it can't go beyond 10ft without some sort of repeater or extender on the cable. I thought about a type of optical cable but those are crazy expensive for this type of project.

And now that the VIVE is only 600 USD, he might get one. But here is his big dill(im sorry ok), he doesn't have any ports open for it. So he is wondering, could he daisychain to the vive/get some connector to run it thx

Hi guys and gals, I am currently upgrading my setup and I need more cables for my monitors, and since the I/O aren't matching my GPU (I'm getting 3 IPS 1080P monitors on sale in black friday but they only have HDMI,DVI-D and VGA) and my GPU is the Rx-480 which has 1 DVI-D, 1 HDMI and 3 DisplayPort I was wondering which brand of cables should I get my DisplayPort to HDMI or DisplayPort to DVI-D? (Im more looking at trusted cable brands but I don't want to pay those stupid expensive cables)

Hi this is my first post here! About a year and a half ago I built my first computer and I have been for the most part very satisfied with it. A couple of weeks ago I started experiencing an issue where the computer would randomly stop outputting a signal to the monitor and also stop responding to any type of input including attempts to turn the PC off manually using the external power button. The only solution is to manually reset by switching the switch on the power supply. It doesn't seem like anything is overloading because this issue happens most often when the computer is idle. I have been trying to fix this issue on my own for a while but have had no luck.. Here a list of the things I have tried: Using several different cables to connect the monitor (2 hdmi, 1 display to hdmi) switching out my gtx 1060 with the gtx 1050 ti from my sister PC making sure all the internal cables are plugged in properly system: CPU Ryzen 5 1600 Motherboard ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F RAM 16GB clocked @ 2400mb/s GPU EVGA GTX 1060 Case NZXT s340 Storage 250 GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD + 2 Tb hard drive PSU EVGA 500W bronze simi-modular Display(s) ASUS 1080p monitor clocked @75hz I am starting to get very worried I depend a lot on this computer for school and its also my main source of entertainment. Do y'all think there is any way this could some type of software issue? I'm concerned it might be an issue with the motherboard.. I have the money to replace it but doing so would be tough on me financially as I am currently student who does not have a lot of money. If anyone has any further insight into what might be wrong or the steps to fix the issue your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone, I'm building myself a custom PC case out of Aluminum, and I've hit a snag. I'm designing it in Sketchup first, and then I'm going to be sending the file to a laser cutting service to cut it out of my aluminum sheets. But I'm having quite a time finding information on the dimensions for placing my standoff holes correctly, so that they line up with where my motherboard's I/O ports will stick out the back slot of the case. Any help would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

Hey there. ? My HDD (1TB WD Caviar Green, WD10EAVS) Dropped from my PC (half a meter height) while uploading a 2gb file, and now it doesn't work anymore. (it also unplugged at the same time it dropped so that might be something) The data is really important for me, I produce music and safe all my Projects and Samples on it what makes it even worse. Since I don't have money for a data recovery, I have some hope I can fix this by myself. (please don't judge me for not having backups, I'm aware of this myself aaa) So... here's a list of things I've diagnosed along the last few days: The Harddrive does not do the Click of death, It does do some noise but overall it sounds normal. It spins up for some time (About 20 seconds), Then stops spinning for half a second and then makes one click and spins again. (seems like its doing something and then retrying) After that, it does a click and then stops spinning. So while its spinning Windows is not recognizing the hard drive. As soon as it stops spinning Windows makes the usual Noise of something being plugged in. <- That is only when connected with a SATA case The Harddrive shows up as "not Initialized" in the Disk manager. As soon as I try to initialize it with MBR it says: "the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error" (same with GPT) I tried to Clean in Diskpart and then recover it but as soon as i try that it also says "the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error" Disk part shows the drive as "Size 0B - Free 0B" Ubuntu does not recognize it as well I tried a different PC, Different SATA Cable and Port, Different SATA Power Cable. Same with the case: Different USB and Power Cable. Always leads to the same issues as mentioned. I Know its probably a Hardware issue. But maybe you have an idea of what is broken in the hard drive and if there's anything I can do about it. ?

I'm designing a computer case at the moment and want your opinion. Does a modern computer need front i/o? Or anything in particular that you couldn't live without on the front of the case?

My brand new internal hdd worked for about a day when I began to get errors about not enough disk space from steam when installing games, so I restarted my pc and the drive disappeared, when I opened up disk management it says that the drive only has 3.86gb of storage and when I try to initialize it, it says "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I tried swapping out sata cables and using a different sata port but nothing has worked pls help.
