I'm new to servers, so I'm looking for recommendations that would fulfill my purposes. I'm trying to use the NAS for file storage, virtualizing OSs, and hosting a media server like Plex. I was thinking of getting a 4-bay server and filling 2 slots with 16TB 7200RPM drives so I have both adequate size and future upgradeability. It's also not required, but being able to have an NVMe drive as a cache would definitely be nice. I have heard that the DS923+ is a solid option but If anybody knows of any systems as well as drive options that would work well for my purposes i'd appreciate the advice.

Looking for best hardware and settings to achieve the maximum possible performance on Hyper V VMs created on i9 13900K. I want to run maximum possible VMs with best Network performance on Intel NIC X550 and i9 13900K. Problems I am facing - 1. How many number of VMs are possible to create safely without loosing performance in Hyper V (i9 13900K) 2. What is best method to calculate vCPUs required to achieve best performance 3. How to achieve best network speeds in Hyper V In conclusion, what are best steps/technique/method/procedure to create and get best possible performance in Hyper V.

I hope I'm on the right sub-forum. Hi, I'm attempting to run Manjaro in Hyper-V, but it refuses to boot. It keeps giving me an error: Could not initiate memory: Not enough memory resources are available to complete this operation. (0x8007000E). Here's a screenshot of the error with the Task Manager. I've already tried lowering my RAM to 1024MB, but it still won't run. Here's a screenshot of my settings. Here are my specs: Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 BIOS: N2XET29W (1.19) Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2 (OS Build 19042.1083) i5-10210U 1 x 16GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz 256GB NVMe SSD Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! So I have gone through the entire setup process for a Hyper-V Machine Setup, I have RTSS, Virtual Audio Drivers, Parsec, GPU Drivers, and everything, but I am wondering how I do the "1 pc 2 gamers" thing, because I cannot get it to work... how do I do the thing to do that? can I do it with a low end old gaming pc (integrated graphics)? Or can I do it with the local pc? just with two sets of peripherals plugged in? Or do I have to have another computer? Would love some answers thanks!!

12th gen intel causing hyper-v virtual machine crashes.
hyper12347 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I just bought a laptop (framework) with a 12th gen intel processor and when trying to run hyper-v virtual machines the VM (ubuntu server) crashes after a while. I am thinking that it's because of the big little design. Any ideas on how could I fix this?- 7 replies

I have dell rack mounted server the spec is ( intel xeon e5 2620 v4 , 16 gb ram , 5 x 2tb wd red sata hard disk (totally 8 tb ) the last one as hot spare raid 5) I am new with servers but i am feeling there is something wrong so my boss told me fix the problem , this is existing server in my company we are using Autocad , revit files on the server we have windows server 2008 r2 sp1 standard edition as main server to run hyper v which includes inside of it two windows server 2003 both main server and we are using both for file sharing of our autocad and revit drawings. so mainly we are using the server as our hard disk , all of our work done on the network .( we have around 50 pc connected to the server ) the problem when we modify then we try to save a drawing (autocad or revit) sometimes our pc freeze so we are wainting for 100 mb file to be saved around 5 min . so i tried to transfer one zip file size around 3 GB from one of the pc's to the server the transfer rate is around 50 - 60 MB/s then after around 25 % the transfer rate drop down to 0-1 MB/s. the i tried to share one folder from the main windows server ( 2008 ) the i did the same i got stable 110 MB/s transfer rate all the time so i think the problem with the hyper v. so now as a result i am planing to buy one nas or build nas but which one is butter i don't now so i need suggestions which brand and which parts if it is better to go for , because i am planing to transfer all of my folders from the two windows server 2003 on this storage and use temporary until i remove the hyper v then i will return it back to the windows server 2008 as my file sharing server is it a good idea or if there is a better solution please tell me that. one more thing we are planing to buy one server to another branch of our company which server is good to go for ( the same purpose file sharing of autocad and revit files ) thanks all , and sorry about my english

Note: 'Just reinstall it' is preferably last resort. This particular test environment takes a bit of work to get set up, and I'd rather have an idea on how to correct it if something like this happens again in the future as well. An Ubuntu Server 16.04 virtual machine running on hyper-v is giving 'connection reset' errors when access by the domain `aurorawi.hyperv.lan` (Defined to point to 10.0.0.65 in my hosts file, verified to be working properly by pinging the domain in command prompt, also SSH connections to that domain work fine), but serves a webpage if accessed using the ip `10.0.0.65`. This was working about 3 days ago, the only changes since then being an `apt update; apt upgrade` command being run yesterday afternoon. No logs are posted in `/var/log/apache2/` relating to the failed connection attempts, and I've double checked the virtual host definitions. I've also compared this to other VMs that aren't having this issue, and I'm not seeing any obvious differences in configuration settings between the two. Host machine is running Windows 10 Professional, 64-bit with an i7 4790S VM is running Ubuntu Server 16.04 64-bit, with 2 GB RAM and 2 virtual processors. Webserver suite is the software installed with the `apt install lamp-server^` command, with the exception of php5.6 and relevant modules being installed via the ondrej repository. IPTables has no specific entries, and everything is set to a policy of accept sierra@aurorawi:~$ sudo iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Here's the vhost configuration: <VirtualHost *:80> # The ServerName directive sets the request scheme, hostname and port that # the server uses to identify itself. This is used when creating # redirection URLs. In the context of virtual hosts, the ServerName # specifies what hostname must appear in the request's Host: header to # match this virtual host. For the default virtual host (this file) this # value is not decisive as it is used as a last resort host regardless. # However, you must set it for any further virtual host explicitly. #ServerName www.example.com ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/html <Directory /var/www/html> AllowOverride All </Directory> # Available loglevels: trace8, ..., trace1, debug, info, notice, warn, # error, crit, alert, emerg. # It is also possible to configure the loglevel for particular # modules, e.g. #LogLevel info ssl:warn ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined # For most configuration files from conf-available/, which are # enabled or disabled at a global level, it is possible to # include a line for only one particular virtual host. For example the # following line enables the CGI configuration for this host only # after it has been globally disabled with "a2disconf". #Include conf-available/serve-cgi-bin.conf </VirtualHost> # vim: syntax=apache ts=4 sw=4 sts=4 sr noet

Hi All, I have a running Virtual Machine is Hyper V with about 4 different virtual adaptors. I need to give each adaptor a unique name (they were all original called something like adaptor but they are all now called 1) The only way I have found so far is to use powershell and type "Rename-VMNetworkAdapter" with an option at the end for the new name. If I run this command with the VM name and the new name then I can rename all of the virtual adaptors on the virtual machine but this doesn't help as the final result is a virtual machine with 4 adaptors that all use the same name. There is an optional parameter "-name" which lets you name the adaptor you want to change the name of, however, this doesn't help as they are all currently using the same name so they all change again. haha I am reading from this doc for context https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/hyper-v/rename-vmnetworkadapter?view=win10-ps If someone can think of a way to get around this then I am forever in your debt! Thanks, Scott

Good Day All, I have been experimenting with nic teaming on my new Server 2019 STD Hyper V install. I have VMS in VMware hosts but I want to migrate them to Hyper V. I have migrated some VM's to the new host but when I started them up not all can connect to the network. they can ping internal between themselves but access outside. I used this is a reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/technologies/nic-teaming/nic-teaming-settings my team is configured as in attachment. The ports are connected to 2 Cisco 3850's that are stacked. All ports are on the same VM. 4 VM's that are on the Host are working fine, but when i start the 5th I don't get any network connectivity external to the Virtual switch. If i shut down the Hosts and restart no mater what i do i only get 4 hosts working. i tried switching to load balancing mode: dynamic. but no VM's can connect other than the 1st VM I turn on. Should i move to a switch dependent mode? Any guidance will be appreciated.

Hello, So lets start with hardware: 1st server 24 core Xeon and 2nd server 12 core Xeon. On 1st server I have around 15 VMs running and I need backup and replication solution so if the fist one goes down I can, with minimal downtime, start VMs on second server. My first choice was Hyper V Replication but I am struggling with Kerberos authentication, I will work on it but its frustrating. Maybe there is a simple fix to error 0x00002EFE but I am thinking about 3rd party software. I am trying Commvault and Altaro free trials to see what they offer and buy full product if they are good enough. So I need some tips how to setup backups and what software is better to use. Thanks, zeibis

hi, i have created a virtual disk in my host server 2016 pc using diskpart and when i tried accessing this disk from another server 2016 running in hyper v, using the following diskpart select command it gives me a error saying "Diskpart has encountered an error: The network name cannot be found". im able to ping the IP of the host from vm and i have also tried replacing the IP in the command below with the computer name.still getting same error. i guess it is possible to do this with the hyper v GUI but i would like to try it in command line for learning. would be very helpful if u could help troubleshoot this.thank you select vdisk file="\\192.168.8.11\C:\storage4core.vhdx"

Hello I'm I'm having some serious issues. I was turing on my hyper v driver because my computer was running slow, and was running faster with it on. During the Windows update for the driver the pc just shut off. Apon starting it I ran into a booting error. (0xc000000f) I've tried booting from usb but that did not work and would not even go to the repair tools in the usb. It would not boot. I tried booting from hard drive and realized this was my worst mistake. Now my computer screen won't turn on for eaither displays (I have 2) i run an asrock motherbored in Windows 10 insider preview. ive tried taking out my cmos batter and switch what I think is the jumper. I've done this several times and leaving the computer unplugged with the ram, hard drive , and cmos battery out for at lease 2 hours max. Is there anything anyone can do to help me?

Hey Everyone! One thing that I have been learning a lot about lately is virtualization. It is a great way to try new things and be able to refresh operating systems with basically a couple clicks of your mouse. At home, I have built a virtualization server where I have created a lab environment in which I am able to learn operating systems, applications, etc.. This is definitely a cool thing and would like to know more about what the linustech community use for their virtual environments. How is your home virtualization lab setup? And what kinds of VM's do you have running? Also, what kind of hypervisor do you run? (Hyper-V, ESXI, XenServer) Look forward on hearing your setups everyone! Thanks
