so a colleague of mine was gonna upgrade his pc with one of our old PCs and he decided to put his sata ssd into the pc that had windows 11 operating system, when he logged into the pc he found that a good chunck of the data like documents and pictures were gone and where categorized under an unknown non-existing drive so he gave me the work to fix this however i can't figure out whats happend. what i have done is searching file names through the library without any luck and i used windirstat to locate the missing files becuase most of the ssd space is used up however the used up space is no where to be found. and windirstat cannot locate it 100%, it can only find that it's with in his user. but there is nothing there. maybe some files got corrupt because what i noticed is that the old PCs were windows 10 and he plugged in a windows 11 ssd. i just need some ideas here on what to do the old pc gtx 1660 16 gb ddr3 motherboard is a 970 pro3 r2.0 amd fx(tm)-8350 sata ssd 120gb with windows 11 sata ssd 850gb for games the new pc gtx 970 16gb ddr3 asus maximus vii ranger intel i5-4690k sata ssd 250gb with windows 10

Hey Guys, Thank you for reading - I need some help in identifying the best way to connect a older 6GB HDD. Context: This is a HDD from an old iRiver recorder that has stopped turning on. I've taken the HDD out and looking to connect to windows, and fingers crossed, it pops up like a removable HDD. It currently uses a flat flex ribbon cable, ATA-33 connector, however I'm struggling to find an adapter that would allow me to plug this into either a USB port, SATA, or even simply copy the data to flash storage. I've found something similar (Converter) for Toshiba drives, but am struggling for this drive. I've contacted seagate's tech support who suggested I many need to daisy chain adapters, but did not give any further details on the type of adapters required. I've added some pictures, any advice or guidance here? Model: ST650211FX Connector: ATA-33 More information: https://testhdd.com/Seagate-ST1-Series-ST650211FX-hard-drive-5-GB-ATA-33-17.html

So my friend has an old computer that he wasn't using, so i was just going to install windows 10 via a USB iso. It hand windows 7 on it before. I loaded up the iso and formatted the drive using the tools on the ISO to install windows. The instillation seemed fine, but it did give me a warning that the load order was wrong. Then the windows boot manager would fail to boot. I plugged the drive into my comp to try and see if i could fix the issue in windows disk utility. The first image is what i saw, the drive split into 3 groups, a 101mb empty partition, the EFI partition, and the rest of the drives space. I cant seem to meld them together and Im pretty sure the 100 meg part is the issue. Any fixes or did I brick this 10 year old crappy drive?

Hiya, so I have this old prebuilt PC from acer that I use on occasion. It's a bit of a chop shop pc now and I wanted to put in a hard drive I no longer need in my current pc, only problem is supplying power to the hard drive seems to be a bit trickier than I planned (I'm no pc expert so bear with me). The pc still runs off of the original non-modular psu unit form seasonic and only has a 6 pin power connector unused. When looking at the oem motherboard I found 2 sockets lableled HDDPWR that are a straight line of 6 pins but I have no idea what type of cable would connect here and cant seem to find much online (I'll include a picture of the sockets). I am fairly certain it originally had a hard drive but I can't seem to find the original cable so trying to find the easiest way to power the hard drive. So my question I guess is if anyone has a solution or knows what kind of cable this is/where i would find this cable or if it's possible to convert the 6 pin to a sata connector (not sure whether female 6 pin to sata exists/can't find anything). Don't really want to buy a new psu seeing as I don't use the pc all that much and it would require changing other problems with the oem mobo. Thanks to anyone that can help!

Budget (including currency): Unlimited Country: Czech rep. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: All of it Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Ryzen 7 3700X RX6800XT Saphire Noctua NH-D14/U12S Motherboard - up to choose 2HDD + 1 NVMe .PSU AX860i And now to the point, currently rebuilding my huge CM HAF EVO XB setup and thought of going mini ITX(I have RMAed mobo). I have found one case that would suit me it is the CM HAF 915F, that would have plenty of space. My point is to reduce the PC in size. So if anybody has suggestion, let me have it, Will need to buy new Mobo next week, as waiting for the money after RMA, therefore I though about size reduction. Adding photo how my rig looks now. Kind regards, Karel

Could use some help from you guys with a little more knowledge than me! I got a new WD Blue 1TB SSD drive today. Now I have a 3rd SATA port on my motherboard but my graphics card is so damn big I don't think I would actually be able to plug a 3rd drive in. My computer came with a 225GB WD Green SSD. Should I just replace the Green drive for the Blue and how would I go about doing that and transferring windows and my data from the Green drive to the Blue since I can't use my 3rd SATA port? Could I just unplug my 1TB regular hard drive since I just have games from steam on that while I install the new SSD and transfer the data over? Or should I just say screw it take it back and get a NVMe SSD drive? I have Gigabyte GA-AX370M-DS3H motherboard. What NVMe SSD would you recommend if I go that route?

System: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 B450 Aorus M Motherboard GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 64GB Ram 2 X 1Tb ssd Boot Drives I duel boot with debian linux on one drive and windows 10 on the other. So a while back I got a WD elements external 14 TB drive on sale. I shucked the drive and wanted to install it into my desktop. I covered the 3.3V pin that would prevent the drive from being recognized, and I also reformatted the drive so that It was no longer exFat. In this desktop with the drive installed the pc will not get past the motherboard splash screen. I cannot enter the bios or boot menu but I can see the motherboard logo and the keys it specifies to press to enter the different menus but it will never go further or boot into the OS. I can reformat the drive if I plug it back into the sata + power to USB board that it came with and plug it into the pc like a normal external drive. I have tried different sata cables, sata ports on the motherboard, and different formatting schemes, but nothing. The hardrive spins up, but the pc will not get past the bios splash screen with it installed, once it is unplugged, it will then boot. I then took an old dell optiplex 790 that didn't have a drive in it, put the WD White drive into that one and the pc was able to get in the bios, and I could see the harddrive in the bios. So any help as to why my main desktop pc with the B450 Aorus M board cannot get to the bios with the drive installed will be appreciated.

Recently I have used my 5TB external HDD to re-install Windows on a laptop I am selling. I created a separate partition to boot the windows installation on the laptop, well I screwed up by ignoring the warnings thinking it will only "wipe" the boot partition and now my data from partitions I was using is "unallocated". This disk had 2 partitions (except the boot one), main one with most of the disk size and a BitLocker password encrypted one of about a 100GB. Main partition was filled with ~2.5TB of data and a BitLocker partition was filled up with ~50GB of data. I have the recovery key for the BitLocker drive. Now when I open the disk management tool in Windows it shows it like this: "New volume" is completely empty and I assume the "Unallocated" space is where my data is, and I need to recover it, also when I right click on the unallocated space the options to create a new simple volume are greyed out. How would I be able to recover the data and especially how can I recover the encrypted BitLocker partition properly? What software could I use (highly preferably free, or max up to 50€) that would be able to recover the data and divide it into its original partition properly?

Hi there, I have about four drives in total in my computer. One M.2, one SSD, and two Hard drives. The hard drives are in pooled together and the M.2 and SSD are stand alone. The M.2 has my OS on it, the SSD holds software that i use like Maya, photoshop and others like that, and the Hard drives hold my games that I don't want on my m.2. I have raid mode set in my BIOS for SATA but there and option to put the M.2 in raid mode as well. So my question is should I put my M.2 in raid mode or not and if i do put it into raid mode would I need to reinstall my OS. (OS is windows 11 on ASUS X570-E M. and AMD 3700x)

I am starting planinng to build a real Nas to replace a fatigued raspbi 4 with an external 8tb WD disk, a 2tb time capsule (becoming more and more unreliable) and another 2tb wd Nas. I need something which could archive documents and media. Because a lot of these data are important to me I was thinking of at least a 4bay, raid 5 solution. I was thinking to begin with 6/8tb per disk. Nice to have is a media server feature (I've been using emby happily so far). Do you have any suggestion for any particular brand and model? Also, is there any suggestion of disks? Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi, my computer's disc usage idles at 100%. It causes other programs to take a very long time to open or even never open until I restart my PC. I was wondering if anyone has faced this before or has tips to start the trouble shooting process. Thanks!

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening? I don't think thermal throttling is an issue and I've reset my PC multiple times too.

Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my harddrive on my hp envy x360 15m-bp1xx to an ssd or and m.2. I see bunch or forums and videos for the upgrading the envy but those are for more recent models. I can not seem to find anything specific to my model. The model that I have came out right when intel 8th gen was launch with a core i5. The laptop runs fine it just a bit slower since i got used to having an ssd on my pc.

I recently installed a game and it requires me to mount an iso file. The iso file creates a partition in windows exactly the required size. But I wanted to add a plugin to the game which goes into the mounted folder which has no space. I wanted to know how to change the size of the drive so I can accommodate the plugin.

TL;DR: installed optane module, and now my pc cannot see any of my drives So on day 1 of letting my younger brother use my gaming pc, he was complaining about how slow it was, so as per usual, I reinstalled my old optane module from years passed, the whole pc worked fine and optane was installed great, then it asked for an updated, so I did as it said and it all went fine. 3 hours Later on my brother had been prompted with the same update option so he did so. I then came back through and now I can no longer sign in, the only thing I have is the windows troubleshooter and in my bios the only bootable drive I can see is my DVD player Any ideas if this is just a blip from the update, any ways I can repair it or if my pc is just a brick
