I was wondering if Using a i7 4790k in an asus gryphon z97 armor edition is still good and functional for today's standard? If anyone has used this board or knows a lot about it, your opinion will be lots of help. I'm also going to be using a EVGA SC GTX 980ti in the system.

Does anybody here run 2 970's in sli using the gryphon board? if so what are the temps like on the top card? Im wanting to see if anybody has any problems before I order my second 970

Im currently looking at a build for a friend who is wanting the Z97 gryphon armoured edition but he also wants to use an AIO water cooler for his 5690k. I was wondering if this would really work because I have always seen the TUF armour as something you need to use an air cooler with if you want it to work as it should. Does anybody know if my thinking is correct or will it work just fine?

Hi guys. I've got an annoying issue with fan controls after OS clean install. The config: Chassis Fan 1 & 2 are Corsair AF120 Performance edition (3 pin headers) Chassis Fan 3 - Empty Chassis Fan 4 - Stock corsair 120 fan from 350d case (4 pins) + H100i with 2 fans connected to the pump and Corsair Link installed (tried to uninstall and check - same issue) So: I can't control 1 & 2 & 4: set custom curve or in any other way adjust their speed from AI suite 3 ( I believe I've could in earlier OS installation). I can adjust speed in BIOS (done BIOS reset couple times, also updated to latest). When global fan profile set to full speed in AI suite, all fans ramp up as expected, also when identifying location of a fan - they stop. I've re-installed AI suite couple times now, OS updates in place. Did I miss something that causing this (is there a difference if 3pin and 4 pin fans used in one system)? No idea what to do next. I started using Chasis fans 1-3 on the mobo. I set up custom profiles on each fan and applied and saved them to the fan profiles. This works perfectly fine, until I shut down the the computer, the computer sleeps, or do a restart. Then AI suite loads whatever default fan control graph it has. How do I set my custom profiles to load at default on startup?

Hi all, I've recently installed the 'TUF Armor Kit' for the ASUS Z87 Gryphon, and it has this really noisy 35mm fan sitting behind the I/O plate. I assume it cools the power manager thingy (I'm a bit of a n00b). My question: Can I remove this without causing any damage to the board? I don't want anything to overheat; I've got liquid cpu cooling (2 x 120mm rad exhausting out the top), and two 140mm fans pulling from the front. This is in the Corsair 350D if that makes any difference to anything. Any advice here is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm looking for a m-atx motherboard for my gaming build. I like the looks of gryphon with the armor, but how does it scale performance wise? Is it identical to sabertooth z87. Another question is gryphon vs maximus vi gene. With the armor included, the price is almost identical. Which one is the way to go? Is the onboard audio on the maximus worth the extra cash?

Just a quick question, does the Asus Gryphon have onboard wifi or am I going to have to buy a wireless adapter? Thanks

i finally completed my rig after months of trial and error and mind changes. this is the life of felixcubpiglet i will give you a brief summery of the birth of felixcubpiglet. he started out life as an air-cooled 3770k with 660ti SLI on a maximus V formula in a 550D then he hit puberty by getting a GTX Titan and being partially water-cooled after that he became a fully water-cooled beast then i relized how ugly my child has become , so i put him in a 350D ad then i relized that my motherboard wasn't matx so i got a z87 gryphon, after buying i relized i had a 3770k so i got a 4770k. then what to do about the loop ? i made it acrylic (it was too hard so the bends arnt perfect but it works) and put in a 240 rad on top, 120 in the rear and a 120 in the front ( wasnt easy ) so i give you FelixCubPiglet i hope you guys like it

So if i'm currently looking for a matx mobo, and the only thing that's making me lean towards the maximus vi gene rather than the gryphon is the onboard audio. Is there really a noticeable difference? I'm not a audio pro or anything, so i hope someone with more knowledge could help me out. cheers.

Hey guys, just posting the build I've been constantly changing for a long time now. I don't have the money to fund this and I don't know when I will. I'm not going to put a budget on this, I'm comfortable saving as much as I need. Instead, I'm just going with reasonable options with a good price to performance/looks ratio, although you'll see some parts where I'm just flat-out spending too much money since I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'll be using a 24 inch 144Hz monitor and an old, crappy 17 inch 4:3 monitor as a secondary, which I might upgrade to a 21 inch 16:9 or something later on. I like having my main monitor the biggest. I don't know why, it just looks better imo. This build will be used primarily for gaming (all sorts of games, new and old), web browsing and skype, but I may (more than likely) also be doing some video editing later on. I already have a keyboard, mouse, speakers, headset, etc. I will be replacing them later on. So its been about 3-4 years since i started building my first PC. It has been more a continued upgrade from an old AMD 8750 BE with GTS450 to what is now and AMD x6 1100T with 2 HD6970's in crossfire on an Asus crosshair iv formula, not to mention going through 4 cases. Since i helped my brother build his PC, Intel 3770k, gtx660ti on a asus sabertooth z77 i found his PC tended to run better, quieter, cooler and faster. I now feel like starting fresh on a new build based on an intel cpu and nvidia gpu. Small and powerful machine for day to day gaming use. Heres what ive got in mind; Asus z87 Gryphon motherboard (Ordered with a G3420 as temp test cpu) Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD (Ordered) Intel 4770k Corsair dominator platinum ram or just the 16GB of vengeance ram in my current system. Corsair RM850 PSU (Enought power for any future en-devours) No dvd/bluray drive. I have an N56VZ for bluray and external dvd drive for anything else. Cooling will probably be stock on the gpu with an H110 on the cpu. Currently have a H100i and the "i" features don't really benefit me compared to extra rad surface. Case wise would be a Corsair 350D. I'm a big fan of their case having owned the 650D and C70 and the new style with the obsidian series looks promising. I also cant find anything else that matches the features and style of the 350D. I would also fill the thing full of corsair's fans, 2 AF140mm's in the front, 1 AF120mm in the rear and 2 NFA14's for the H110. The GPU will be a GTX780ti with an Asus aftermarket cooler on it, i now despise the blower style cooler on 1 of my HD6970's, it just creates so much noise when in a game and barely stays below 90 degrees C. A few last things i'm considering are whether or not to fully water cool the system, make it really silent and cool with exceptional performance. Koolance seem like a good brand although ive never build a water cooled system and living the UK i don't know the best place to buy the stuff. Anyone got any input, specs, water cooling in a 350D or just stick with a H110.

As the title suggests... Do backplates on motherboards raise the motherboard at all, reducing clearance for aftermarket cpu heatsinks? First post on a forum ever, sorry if I did something wrong.

Hey guys, I hope I posted this question in the right place (this is my first post here). I've got a question about which expansion slots I should use on the Asus Gryphon Z87. I want to install the "Asus Xonar DX 7.1 (PCIe 1x)" and the "Inno3D iChill GTX 780" but I'm not sure about which slots to use. The Gryphon has (from top downwards) 1. PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, 2. PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, 3. PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and at the bottom: 4. PCI 2.0 x16 slot. 1st option: I install the GTX 780 in the first slot and because it uses a triple-slot cooler design i would have to install the Xonar Soundcard at the bottom. I'm afraid the 780 would have restricted airflow in this configuration. 2nd option: The Xonar in either the first or second slot (should not matter) and the 780 in the third slot. Is there any disadvantage of installing the graphics card in the third slot (on paper it's the same as the first one, PCIe 3.0 x16)? Thanks in advance for your help!
