  1. whats up, i plan to buy this eGPU setup for my 2015 MacBook so i can play FPS games... my plan was to spend as little as i can this christmas and worry about upgrading my graphics later on when i have more money. this is the box i was planning to get: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C{creative}%2C{keyword}&is=REG&m=Y&sku=1286359 All i want is to play on med/low settings and get a decent FPS. i dont need anything fancy for now, is it possible to spend about 50-70$ to get a graphics card compatible with that box and my MacBook pro? i really dont know anything about what to look for, can someone help me shop? thanks!
  2. Hey guys, I’m just looking at getting some insight as to the performance of eGPU set up with a Titan X (Maxwell). with a razed core if that matters. all your information and insight is helpful and much welcome . thanks guys .!!!!!!!!
  3. Ok so I've got a decent laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 with and intel core i5 vpro running 4 threads at ~2.4ghz, 4g wam, and perhaps most importatly an expresscard slot capable of 5gbs raw transfer speed, enough of a pipeline to effectively run a good graphics card externally, and with this adapter; http://goo.gl/wYWJ5s , I can do just that. So the plan is to get a 980ti, or something leet like that, since i'm throwing the change around no issue, the main reason to do this is to get occulus ready to some degree, and mostly to hook up the tv in my room to a better graphics processor than intel hd which just barely makes css and minecraft playable, although they do play to intels credit. once i have this fancy card and adapter combo i still need a power supply to run it. Phase 2 I'm gonna measure the dimension of the psu, the gpu, the connector, and get a good idea of how I want the parts situated in the case design, then i'm going to cut 1/2'' thick wooden peaces to form a box around the psu, and cut holes in the sides for the power supply and expresscard connector to run through, and air to ventilate for the psu, then i'm going to use a thin sheet of plywood as a shelf about an inch from the rim of the box, cut a port for the adapter cable, and some leds later, drill some small anchor holes in the middle of the shelf for wood glue, paint the box black and white Victorian print, and affix the card side of the adapter to the shelf, now painted, where the anchor ports were drilled earlier, so the card, when inserted is oriented in landscape position, upright, like an n64 cart. there are several ways to tackle a display window if you want one in your design. in my design, i do so ill be cutting four rectangular shaped pieces of plexiglass to size, so they can be affixed to the inside rim of the box around the card. to do this ill get eight screws and washers, and ill carefully cut matching eight pilot holes about 3/4 of an inch in from each inside edge of the box, and 3/4 of an inch, minus plexiglass thickness, from each side of each plexiglass panel, about half the way up from the bottom edge in both instances, being extra careful that your holes line up, then with holes drilled i'm going to put the washers over the screws and screw each panel to the wood. next i'm gonna use some silicone caulk to affix the outside edges, and inside corners to get a nice sealed enclosure, after that, or before probably would be better, we'll get a few holes drilled into the plexiglass at strategic points for ventilation and finally we move on to installing the leds, and making a lid, so the leds will affix to the inside rim on top of the newly installed plexiglass, or if you're super pro you can cut a groove into the wood of the rim to fit them under the plexiglass when you install it, but it will make replacement a hassle as you'll have to unbolt your plexiglass assemply and risk compromising the caulk, however you can use a different method for your window by using one sheet of plexiglass that slides into cut grooves in the box and etc. but for this particular build just adhering it to the plexiglass will be fine, last but not least the wooden lid so it's optional whether you use a hinge or what have you, what i'm going to do is get piece of the same wood, cut it to size plus wood thickness, and then i'm going to affix 1in thick rectangular pieces of wood to make a bezel around the edge, so after drilling the necesary pilot holes with my dremmel, i'm going to add screws and screw each edge piece to the lids edge nice and carefully. all that's left is to paint the lid with the aforementioned victorian print, put it on top, plug it into the lenovo, and run the video cables to the tv for modular setup glory. attached is a pic of my setup as it sits, i'm going to do my damndest to fit this egpu enclosure under the bottom edge of my laptop, nice and even. also that storage stool started to give, so i swapped it with a small office chair, and its being used as a footlocker at the end of my bed which is also partly in the pic, as my setup doubles as my nightstand. i don't know how true to the plan i'll be, and i may end up changing it before it's all said and done, but that is the nature of these hopes and dreams, at least i'll have my money up to try. ^=^

  5. Hello everybody! I am pretty new to doing any sort of modifications to computers although I have a general understanding of them. That being said, I am in search of some information regarding the use and compatibility of an eGPU for my Lenovo Ideacentre 510 23ASR. 8 GB RAM, 1TB HD, AMD 12-9700P processor. Like most are aware with all in ones or laptops, my graphics are integrated and its nothing special, AMD Radeon R7. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to whether or not I am able to use an eGPU with this specific model of computer and which one would be the best, or has anyone here used an eGPU for an AIO??? I am fully aware that I can build a gaming computer, so please don't bother mentioning it. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
  6. R9 280X eGPU PSU

Hi, I have an R9 280X ( tri-x oc and stuff ) for an eGPU ( the adaptator still on transit ) and I don't know what is the cheapest and working PSU I can get with 2 x 8pins connectors.
  7. Egpu performance

Hi I have a Toshiba satellite L855-188 laptop and I want to buy a exp gdc mini pcie version and put a gtx 1060 and play on a 1080p monitor on it how much performance loss will I experience thanks
  8. So im thinking of buying the new hp spectre x360, but i do have a concern. I want the 15 inch display, but it comes with an mx150 graphics card. I was thinking about getting an egpu with a much higher graphics card. My issue is that i read somewhere you cant use an egpu on a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. So is there a way to make the laptop integrated rather than dedicated, through the bios or something? Or will there not be any issue depending on which egpu i get? I saw linus reviewing the razer core by plugging it into a razer stealth laptop which has dedicated graphics, so im kinda confused.
  9. Vega 64 or GTX 1080 Ti for EGPU?

Would a GTX 1080Ti be better than a Vega 64 in an EGPU?
  10. Hey i am searching for a solution to my very special problem. I want a Laptop, which has a great battery life and is light and is portable + it would be awesome to have a convertable (so I could write on it like on real paper), so that I can use it during my mechanical engineering study. But I also would like it to have good gaming performance. 1. The first solution would be to get 2 systems, one for gaming and one for productivity, but I dont like to have a Laptop and a Desktop at the same time. I am kind of weird, but I'd like to have one system to rule them all 2. The secound solution is to get a Laptop with a good cpu and usb-c/thunderbolt 3 support (x4 for best experience). But I didn't found any laptops that fullfill my needs entirely perfect. One option is the razorblade stealth, but I think it is not so good in the price to performance perspective (or is it?). Another option is the dell xps lineup (there is also a convertable, which would be neat), but they dont feature 4 lanes of pcie 3. (Or a Macbook, with Windows, but I think this would be too expancive) Could you help me solve my misery and give me some advice on what to do? (Rigth now I have a gaming rig and a laptop (which isn't that good)) (Sry for bad english. I am from germany)
  11. Hello everyone, I had recently purchased an exp gdc beast v8.0 . I have had no luck being able to use my egpu. I was able to get my egpu to detect by hotplugging it but now I'm getting the error 12 (not enough resources). Can anyone please help me with this. I am financially not able to get a new gaming laptop or build my own pc to game on. I have gone through the DSDT override method but it goes way above my head and I'm not financially able to purchase nando's setup 1.3 . My laptop is a gigabyte p15f v2 and I'm trying to put in a gtx 1050 in it via exp gdc any help will be extremely appreciated Thanks for reading
  12. I want to know if the MacBook Pro late 2016 or newer with Four Thunderbolt ports can have four eGPU's with RX580's in Crossover? Or even iMac with Four Thunderbolt4 ports?
  13. I’m curious if I could use any computer (assuming that it’s motherboard has a thunderbolt 3 port) to act as an eGPU for my MacBook Pro? In case the answer is no, what would be the limit?
  14. Okay. So let me first start out with saying that I fully understand that I have an outdated laptop with the added heartbreaking truth of no longer having driver support and it is in no way (except the RAM sticks) upgradeable or interchangeable. I am also VERY new to the PC world in that I do not understand most of anything yet when it comes to custom PC building except the components that make them up and the basics of what the jobs of said components are (and also that custom RGB and water cooled PCs are drool worthy). I have never built a custom PC, but I have already found the glorious GOD SEND of a website, Newegg, and am in the process of buying parts to build a custom PC since my eyes were opened 2 days ago that laptops are good for nothing but portability and MS paint and Office programs... The thing that set me off was that my GPU and CPU are soldered to the board and can not be removed or interchanged for better parts. Yes I realize there are nice gaming laptops out there but I am not able to shell out 2,000+ on a new laptop. The budget does not allow it and will not in the foreseeable future. So, to the point. I have a Alienware m14xr1 (will post current specs below). I would like to play pubg. My husband has a nice gaming rig and can beyond handle the game and I assumed that maybe, just maybe, I can run this game at at least 20-22 FPS on lowest settings. Wrong. I was so wrong. 10... 10 FPS... that was my average after loading in all players. It was terrible. (I used FRAPS to watch FPS in game). I tried so hard to make it work but it was futile.... So my first thought was, "Hey, why not get an egpu so you can run newer games until your case gets here and you can start putting blood, sweat, and tears into building a decent rig so you can actually game." No. My answer seems to be no. Which is crushing my love of this laptop and making me want to make it a glorified drawing tablet and portable video watching device... So looking online I have found no answers to if I can use a egpu other than removing the battery and wifi card so I can plug one in there. I have no idea how to do this and would rather not pursue this route if at all possible. Also I have no idea what a mPCIe adapter is but the same site says I will need one to make that solution work. Problem is my battery already can't last 3 minutes without the charger so it has become a lifeline at this point just to keep it on and I would rather not have to have any more 30ft cat 6 cables running through the house.. Its becoming ridiculous how many cables are running across the house to the office just to use the husbands rig. That we found out today does not have WiFi or Bluetooth capabilities and has to be direct connected with a cable. It is fine but would be nice if it had those options. Anyway, getting off topic here. The quwestion is, can i run an egpu on this laptop or am i going to have to just build a rig? Posting the specs and I'll let the experts handle it from here. My Laptop is a Alienware m14xr1: OS: Win 8.1 Pro GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555m Supports DirectX 11.0 Memory Type DDR3 (Hynix) Memory size 3072 MB Driver version 22.21.13.8541 (ForceWare 385.41) WHQL/Win8.1 64bit GPU clock 590 MHz Memory 900MHz Shader 1180 MHz RAM: 6G CPU: Intel core i7 2860QM 2.4GHz 4 cores 8 logical processors I have an SSD but no HDD wich is strange to me but nice in the fact that my OS startup time is minimum. Available Ports: 2xUSB3.0, 1xUSB2.0, 1xHDMI1.4, 1xMiniDisplayPort, 1xVGA, 1xEthernet1000mbps (If you need more information on anything I will try my best to provide it. I went a little extra on the GPU because I have no idea what could be important so I put what I thought may be relevant information.)
  15. Hey, I'm considering to upgrade my laptop (currently MSI GT72 6QD Dominator pro with integrated gtx970m 3gb gddr5) to the newer model (MSI GT72VR 7RE Dominator pro with integrated gtx1070 8gb gddr5). Now I read the MSI GUS 2 is coming to the public soon. The thing is I'm still hesitating if I should go for the upgrade or just buy an MSI GUS 2. So I was wondering if you guys knew if there are any drawbacks to the eGPU compared to an integrated (dedicated) GPU. As example: Is the performance of the eGPU as strong as it would've been an integrated GPU? Does it has output lag? etc. I would like to know what your opinions are about this and what you would do if you were in my place. (Not considering money as an influence. Let's say it would both kost about the same eventually). Anyway thanx for taking your time. (a link to the eGPU: https://www.lowyat.net/2017/122333/msi-gus-may-be-the-external-graphics-enclosure-weve-been-waiting-for/)
  16. I wasn't exactly where to put this post but I have a configuration that I wonder if it would work. I was wondering if you could do some gaming on a notebook computer with a i7 U series intel CPU. Say something like in an XPS 13. I'm talking about some heavier games on medium settings. To enable this I would use an eGPU over thunderbolt 3 with say a Nvdia 1060. However I realize you are likely to hit a CPU bottleneck normally as the CPU would need to turbo pretty consistently to run the games but would probably not be able to do that due to too much heat. So if I added the Opolar notebook cooler (https://www.amazon.com/Temperature-Display-Cooling-Auto-Temp-Detection/dp/B00XKU47Y2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505531943&sr=8-1&keywords=opolar%2Bnotebook&th=1) to keep the CPU cooler would it be able to consistently turbo enough that the games would run steadily? Or would this setup not really work out?
  17. theres an m.2 x4 version of the beast egpu external dock, it supposedly has no performance loss. theres also an m.2 x2 version, which is supposedly the same speed as the mini pcie version which is also available, they lose 20% performance roughly from what it says. the former blanketing most laptops since 2007 making it excellent. but the m.2 x4 might be a superior solution to this external problem, since its available cheaper than thunderbolt 3 for starters, and if it truely doesnt lose performance, its excellent as well. im not sure on the metrics since i dont own one myself yet. from the videos ive seen with the mini pcie version, it seems to lose a little performance from what id expect on a desktop. the framerate on most games is still very playable for the card in question with little to no noticable drop from what id expect in native x16. so i dont see why m.2 x4 wouldnt completely negate any possible drop in performance flawlessly. id like to see a comparison some day to shed more light on it. although essentially m.2 x4 is pcie 3.0 x4 i believe, so it should be fast enough to support a full gpu with no issues natively. i could be wrong about that though, as some laptops say pcie x4 (m.2 m key 2280) and some dont, similar to how some usb type c has thunderbolt 3 and some dont. also, considering some laptops have 2 mini pcie slots, and considering its just slimmed down pcie x1, i wonder if you could sli graphics cards with this. for anyone looking for it, i searched V8.0 EXP GDC M.2 X4 Version, its the first link, banggood. if you scroll down it lists links to all the different versions, m.2 x2, mini pcie, mac and expresscard. pretty awsome seeing this kind of thing finally. keep in mind the mini pcie version on banggood isnt bundled with the power adapter or 6 pin splitter. but you can find the same thing on world taobao in a bundle. theres also cases available on ebay for this dock. https://www.banggood.com/M_2-X4-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-With-Power-p-1109912.html X4 version bundle https://world.taobao.com/item/37107780625.htm?fromSite=main (translate this site with google chrome or equivilant) mini pcie version bundle https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XEXP+GDC+BEAST+case.TRS0&_nkw=EXP+GDC+BEAST+case&_sacat=0 Cases translated the taobao website gives pretty comprehensive instructions to set it up, and a pretty long list of helpful information.
  18. Homemade eGPU PSU Issu ?

, Hi guys ! I rencetly decided to put a diy eGPU since most of the external solutions are really expensive and that I already have some spare parts left that could be combined to create a External Graphic Solution. First, I have an Dell XPS13 20174 full specs, thunderbolt 3 of course (so PCIE pass through), a R9 270X, a Antec Truepower Trio 650W and a PCIE Riser exntesion, x16 to x1. Since I think most of you know, the PCIE riser extension use to convert an USB cable for the x16 PCB to a x1, and i thought, since Thunderbolt can use fast PCIE like specs, I can just plug a USB C cable and make a external GPU ! For now it seems simple, or i'm missing something. So I started: Plug all cables to R9, on the x16 extension; plug the Molex for the PCB extension to Molex port (or with a converter to SATA), plug both 8pins connectors for card, jump the 24pin one to start psu and transfer energy for the R9, plug electric cable to PSU and switch it on. But now, my card wouldn't spin, did not produce any hot, my card is suppose to make his fans spinning so I know it works but nothing. And strangely I tried my PSU by also plugging a SSD to a SATA connector, its turning, but only when the 8pins connector are plugged into the card otherwise it stops. I've made a classic jump found on internet where I link the green and black (two in the middle I tried both) on the upper line of pins when looking at the pins. But I still don't know, I'll try on another PSU when I have one but my solution is acting weirdly for some reasons... Any idea ?
  19. Max possible eGPU

I have a few questions that Linus didn't answer in is videos about eGPU enclosures and the Razer Core. 1. Does the Razer core hot-swap feature reduce performance vs. a eGPU enclosure that doesn't support hot swap? 2. Does running a 1080ti give a boost of performance over a 1080 in a eGPU enclosure? I.E. is there a performance cap? (yes I know there is a is a performance percentage loss) 3. What is the best performing eGPU enclosure, or are they all the same? thanks, I know this is a lot. Would love to hear some thoughts!
  20. So i have the Asus ROG G750JW And im wondering if anyone has gotten around to trying to run an eGPU on it. if you can id love to hear about it and how much
  21. EGPU BSOD at bootup

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this. I am trying to use a GeForce GT 620 on an EXP Beast through MPCIE, with my Toshiba Satellite c55dt-a5106 on Windows 10, (BIOS verison 1.80) and when I first cold plugged it, the computer showed it as VGA adapter, but with error 18, so I installed the latest drivers from Nvidia, and I restarted the computer after it installed, as directed by Nvidia, but now it only either ends up with BSOD (error code: 0xc0000001) when starting up, or it stops booting at a black screen with a text cursor in the top left corner of the screen. Does anyone have any ideas, information, anything? Also, please tell me if this is missing any info.
  22. gigabyte 1070 gaming box

Does someone maybe know what tunderbolt chipsset this uses? i'm getting a macbook pro for work and since high sierra will support egpu's i wanted to pick up the gigabyte gaming box for its price and size. But i need to know if its TPS65982, TPS65983 or any other chips.
  23. eGPU set up help!

I have an monitor I want to run off my i7 intel core 2015 Macbook air, I can easily run the monitor off the integrated intel graphics but I have a desktop 1050ti gpu and a spare motherboard. Is it possible to run the GPU off the motherboard into the monitor (With a PSU of course), but run the CPU and processing off the Macbook? Please help!

  25. Hi, I'm looking for an eGPU that won't get bottlenecked by an intel core i7-5500u in a price range of about 0-300$ CAD, it's for gaming. I'll mostly be playing mobas, MMORPGs and some fps like league, black desert, and bo3. The laptop I'm looking to upgrade with an eGPU is an ASUS X555L laptop. if anybody can help me find a decent egpu that'll boost my laptop it will be greatly appreciated, Thank you.
