So you are wondering how to install DWM on Arch Linux? Well look no further! In this post I am going to show you how to install DWM and get it working! Preamble STEP 1 Lets create a new user. In this case our user will be called DWM. This is done by by useradd -m dwm. You must remember to add -m to the command otherwise it will not create a directory for your user. useradd -m dwm passwd dwm STEP 2 Now you want to give your new user sudo permissions. This can be done by going into the sudoers file in /etc/sudoers with your favorite text editor. Once you are in the sudoers file you want to scroll down to User privilege specification and add your user. As you can see here we have 3. root, nick and dwm. DWM is the one we are working with now. Once that is done we move onto step 3. STEP 3 Now that the dwm user has been created we can now log into it and download the packages we need. Lets also download Firefox now as well. sudo pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-xrandr xorg-xsetroot firefox STEP 4 Once everything has been downloaded and installed we need to copy the xinitrc file to our home directory with the following command. cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc .xinitrc STEP 5 If everything has gone well so far your home directory should look something like this... STEP 6 Once that has been done and we have confirmed xinitrc is in the correct place. We need to go into the file using a text editor and make a change. So open the file and go down to the very bottom and remove the last 4 lines. Once that is done replace them with exec dwm It should go from this To this Once that is done we move onto step 7 STEP 7 Now we move onto download the software we need. We will be downloading 2 git packages from suckless.org git clone https://git.suckless.org/dwm git clone https://git.suckless.org/st Once they have both been downloaded we need to CD into them and compile the software with sudo make clean install The output from the compiling should look something like this Once that is done we can now move onto the final step. FINAL STEP All that is left now is to type startx And it should give a desktop that looks something like this! You have now installed DWM and Simple terminal on Arch Linux! This should work on any Linux Operating system but of course keep in mind your install manager EG changing sudo pacman -S to sudo apt install. Hi Guys/Lads, I hope that i can provide some "serious" information for an long lasting Bug and help people to not be annoyed/sad after buying an 144Hz Monitor (while using a second 60Hz Monitor) (@Mods: to be honest, i posted this as a comment in an another thread, but since it has a different Title it might not get found by interested Users. Please delete my comment if necessary) 3 Days ago i realised i have an annoying "issue". Since Apex Legends is out and i noticed same weird FPS drops/issues, I tried to figure out what is wrong on my PC. (the Hz issues got nothing to do with my FPS drops ) While searching I came around of some reddit posts dedicated to this 144hz/60hz issues and instant tried finding a solution for it. For me, NOTHING helped to have different Hz on my screens (PG278QR 144hz and VS248H 60hz). I feel like, this is something which needs to get WAY! more attention from Media/Users and in the End needs to be fixed by MS or nVidia asap! There are several Threads on every Computer related Board and reddit, but after Months/Years there is NO Solution at all. So here is what everybody can test! Open TestUfo Website (google it for link) on your 144hz and wait for it to be synced to your 144hz Monitor. After its synced, open another Browser instance on your 60hz Screen and open the same Website. You will instant notice, that your 144hz Screen will drop FPS and therefore is downed to 60hz. So whenever you will try watch Linus YT Videos on your 60hz screen and try gaming on your 144hz, it will automatically drop to 60hz. Another good test is, open a game on your 144hz in "exclusive" Fullscreen (its the only "real" Solution to stop this bug while gaming) while running some sort of FPS overlay (like MSI+RTSS or fraps), enable VSYNC in the (you must not play with vsync, its just for testing). You should get around 144 FPS if your PC is capable to do so. Now open testufo again on your 60hz Screen -> your Game should still do 144 FPS if you open it. Here is the clue, go from Fullscreen to Borderless Window or Windowed at all, and voila it drops to 60 FPS (mostly around 70 fps, cause the Monitor Sync Bug is not capable to properly drop your 144hz screen to 60hz) That means, if you are not able to fix this Problem by lowering to 120hz or are lucky with 2 Monitors with DP (might fix it...) you are not able to make GOOD use of your Dual Monitor Setup, cause u are not able to instant move to your Second Screen while gaming. You always have to Alt-Tab what means the Fullscreen Game gets minimized (for me this is really annoying!) + if you watch a Video on your 60hz and wanna read or do anything else on your 144hz screen (no Fullscreen application) it gets always lowered to 60hz. You might not notice it, but guess 75%+ of time your 144hz screen is lowered to 60hz. I hope this gets some more attention and maybe Linus or his Staff can research this Stuff cause its simply plain stupid that MS OR Nvidia wont fix this Bug/Feature! Around 6 months ago my computer started crashing (black screen and fans turning to 100%) this continued till it didn't turn on one day. I figured out it was my motherboard that was broken and i got a new one and it worked till now (6 months after this happened first time). Same thing, again.. Black screen and fans turning to 100% (it still boots up). I did check my event viewer and it showed that dwm.exe keeps crashing and it tries to start it up again, but fails (This is what happened 6 months ago too). When i boot up my computer it says that my GPU didn't start up correcty (Can't provide picture about this because i didn't get it last time this happened). Now im thinking that this might be PSU problem, but i don't want to get a new psu if it's not what's even broken in the first place. It's probably not my GPU or MoBo because i just got new one's when this happened the first time. And i did just get a fresh install of windows so there should be no problem or viruses. PC SPECS: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.40GHz RAM: 16,0Gt Dual-Channel DDR3 (HyperX Black i think..) MOBO: ASUSTeK Computer INC. SABERTOOTH P67 (LGA1155) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB SSD: 223GB KINGSTON SH103S3240G HDD: 931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 ((I did check older forum post's but none of them were helpful))

Help! My pc keeps crashing because of desktop windows manager keeps crashing please help!

Hello LTT Fourm! Im coming to you with an issue that I've been having pretty recently with DWM, I have been getting really into modern warefare recently and I have gotten issue where after playing for extended periods of time / certain maps where DWM's GPU Usage spikes up to 40 / 50% causing me to get 15 - 20fps and making it impossible to aim to the point I have to use a knife class. My specs are: Ryzen 5 3600 RTX 2060 16GB Of 3200mhz Ram 120GB SSD 2TB HDD Windows 10 pro If this thread is in the wrong place, feel free to move it to the appropriate section.

i have recently gotten a lot of dwm.exe crashes lately, that seems to f*** up my games and everything else on my PC. i can't play battlefield anymore because dwm.exe has crashed comes up end resulting to my battlefield game to not start. i don't know what is causing, but i know that after i played with a friend using his monitor and got home these problems started coming. this came up when i saw it, i think this is what causing the problems (?) C:\Users\Lefdal\AppData\Local\Temp\WER26B2.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml C:\Users\Lefdal\AppData\Local\Temp\WER4200.tmp.appcompat.txt C:\Users\Lefdal\AppData\Local\Temp\WER50EF.tmp.mdmp do anybody know what to do/experiences with this before.

I constantly get error messages from Desktop Window Manager crashing and it does my head in. I can't figure out what's causing it, but it's something to do with eyefinity, as far as I'm aware. I had an error log from the window that pops up but I accidentally copied something else and no longer have it. I think it's somewhere in a windows log folder but I can't remember where it is! Basically, I've had this on two different computers now and possibly with two different GPUs. It could be to do with crossfire, eyefinity or having eyefinity on with another extended display too. Anyone got any ideas what's causing it as it can be a real pain?
