I build my first dual psu system and my second psu is plugged into my gpu. I was confused as to why my gpu wasnt powering on after i hit my power button on the case, first psu has the 24pin connected to the mobo, then i realized i needed to jump start the 2nd psu by shorting 2 pins on the 24pin connector. If it safe to jump the second psu while my computer is on? Ive seen these dual bridge jumpers to start both PSUs at the same time but if i dont need to buy one that be great

To preface, the plan for the build is a 5950x and a 3090, with the 5950x and ram overclocked and the 3090 at factory OC. The case is most likely going to be a Lian-Li O11D Mini. Which brings me to the title. The O11D Mini only takes SFX/L PSUs and the only 1000w I can find is the Silverstone SX1000 which also has a stupid price hike right now (and cablemod doesn't support it - I don't mind making custom cables but if I can avoid the hassle I will). Then I found out the case can take two SFX PSUs so the new plan was to buy two 600w (or whatever wattage, 600 just seemed like a more than adequate number) SFX PSUs and power the 3090 off the second one. So now the question is, is it fine to just use a 24 pin ATX splitter and power the 3090 from the second PSU's PCIe connectors, or would I need something else since the GPU is also powered by the PCIe slot on the motherboard (effectively being powered by both PSUs I guess, which seems like something I should avoid after a bit of research)? Also would just having the splitter shut down both PSUs or would I need to manually shut down the second one?

Hello, So I have previously wanted to upgrade to an R9 270X but didn't have the money however now I have more money and I can buy an R9 280X 3GB for possibly £95 instead... ...The only problem is that my PC only has a 500W power supply and I know this would struggle with an R9 280X on it. The good news is that I have two spare PSU's, a 250 watt and a 400 watt. Am I able to use my 500W PSu plus the 250 watt (or) 400 watt PSU if I use an Add2PSU adapter? Greetings LTT forum from Denmark My name is Karl, and I am a dirt poor gaming and tech enthusiast, and I am building a franken-PC. The premise og the build is "everything must be free, preferably from the dumpster", and so I have been dumpster diving, at school and at home (with permission, otherwise its illegal here). This has resulted in a selection of mismatched parts in all kinds of quality, and a lot of issues along the way. After years of using my almost-finished PC (most of the time, outside of a case), I finally have all the parts I need to build it, BUT my PSU is not powerful enough. So I am going full Austin Evans on this, and using 2 PSU's, and here, my question to you arises. How should I configure the PSUs, in terms of which powers what? 1PSU for GPUs and 1 for the rest ? And I have some molex-->6-pin converters which I am planning to use, but I am fresh out of molexes, also need one for the pump, so thinking of splicing some myself, and using other outputs from PSU1 (see below). i know I should be able to use sata power, but should I rather use some outputs from the 24-pin? which I will not need as I am using PSU2 for the motherboard and CPU (logistics). Which wires to grap? Case: No clue, some office dell, with proprietary layout, not even screw holes fitted for standard motherboards. Really enjoying collecting bits and pieces (also in general), and enjoying the build, so if it crashes and burns so be it =), so I am willing to experiment with it. For two years I have been building a wall PC. But now I have problems with the hardware and I am seeking your help since I seem to have tried everything and I have no solution. You really should take a look there first: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/744224-wall-pc-build-log/ What’s the problem: - The computer boots normally and works fine without the GPU driver installed. - As soon as the GPU driver (EVGA GTX1080) is installed, the computer crashes either during startup or shortly after login, no error-code or bluescreen. Just black. - PC runs stable in safe-mode (where presumably the GPU driver is not active) What I (and friends) have tried: - Replaced GPU driver with newest driver. Tried Nvidia as well as EVGA driver. - Replaced Win7 with Win10 (works until Win10 is online and updates drivers) - Updated Bios - Tried different monitor - Tried different monitor cables - Tried HDMI / DVI - Disabled on-board intel graphics - Tried RAM in a different PC to check if they are good, they are. - Tried different SSDs - Disconnected all non vital SSDs - Prime95 stress-tested CPU, all good - Tried all PCI-e Raiser cables by themselves and in combination, all good - Completely disconnected the two HD-Plex 250W PSUs and ran entire PC through a regular PSU (see pic), no change. - Borrowed a working GTX970 from Friend, setup with dual PSUs, still crashes. - Put GTX970 in PCI-e Slots directly, still crashes - GTX970 with regular PSU works (even with PCI-e Raiser cables) So the only stable configuration that works is when both the PSUs and the GPU are replaced. But all this at least eliminates the following error-sources: - Mainboard - CPU - RAM - SSD - Raiser-Cables What really haunts me, is that initially in 2017 the computer worked in the same configuration before the frame was completed. (see table test pic) I used furmark to stress the GPU and Prime95 to stress the CPU and proofed that it works under simultaneous load. At that time I didn’t have the cooling rig, so I used 3 fans on a radiator. Those fans are not used now which results in less power usage. This eliminates the following error-source: - Not enough power from the dual PSU setup. The power draw graph of the GTX1080 suggests that power could be an issue. (pic 2) (eventhough already proven that it isn’t two years ago) So I hooked up the regular power supply to the GPU alone and ran the PC through the other PSUs. - PC doesn’t crash, but GPU performs only 4fps in furmark. You likely want to point out the special setup with the two micro PSU connected through the add2psu adapter. But remember the PC still crashes when those are taken out of the equation entirely. And initially the setup worked flawlessly with those two PSUs two years ago. A test done by eteknix.com with same Mobo, CPU and a GTX980Ti (same power draw) shows 368 Watts power draw under full combined load. Can an Evga Supernova 1600 t2 and a SilverStone SX800-LTI work on a phanteks power combo?

Here is my problem, I'm upgrading my PC and I'm gonna need a bit more power(from the power supply). Solution? What I would like to do instead of buying a brand new PSU and giving away my old one, is buy another cheap PSU and use the old one to power my drives, GPU, water cooling, and anything else I can ( besides the motherboard) and use the new one to power only the motherboard. Could this work? Why/ Why not? Is there another way to do this without buying an expensive new psu? Thank you, Trevor
