Hello, I have been having a very annoying problem while trying to do downloads like on steam. I have a 1 Terabyte TeamGroup GX2 Sata SSD (I dont think this has to do with the problem though). Whenever I start a download my disk usage climbs up to 100% and sits around there and the download starts to go slow. I have tried methods like stopping superfetch and defragmenting my drive to no avail. Is this a normal thing or is there a fix for it? My downloads used to not shoot up to 100% disk usage and would go smoothly and quickly. Also, I do not think it has anything to do with my internet because I have speedtested it and it is working just fine on my phone as well. Any Ideas?

Recently I've run into the problem where when I play various video games, my game will randomly freeze, and I believe the problem is caused by my disk usage spiking to 100%. I have both an SSD and a HDD and the disk usage spikes up to 100% on both drives. This has led me to believe that it isn't an issue with either drive, and it may be something else. I've tried a few things like checking the health of my drives and while the HDD seemed like it had some problems, the SSD had none, and I have most of my games on the SSD and still run into the issue. I also reset my PC completely, and reinstalled windows, and that didn't seem to fix the issue either. I've tried updating my drivers on everything, and there's nothing that needs to be updated. This issue seems to occur mostly when something eventful is happening, like for example in league of legends when we ace the enemy team and a big message pops up on the screen. It doesn't happen often, maybe a few times a day. Also something important to highlight is that my average fps in all games has dropped by like 20-30. It also feels like I use way more ram than I should be using, simple games like League of Legends using 8 seems a little excessive, or games like FFXIV using 15. Not sure if this is related to the problem though. I've had this issue in all games I play, regardless of graphic intesitisty. Some of the games I've been playing and running into this issue: League of Legends Sea of Thieves FFXIV Ark Lost Ark Fortnite Computer specs. Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Eight-Core Processor 3.20 GHz 16GB of ram GFX card: Nvidia RTX 2060 Super Motherboard: b450m pro-vdh max Storage Devices: 1. (What i have windows and most of my games on): PNY CS900 500GB SSD 2. Seagate ST1000LM048-2E7172 1TB Windows 10 64bit Every part except the HDD is only barely over a year old. I thought it may be a memory leak after researching for what may be the problem online but even after completely wiping my computer the issue still persists. Here are some images of it happening, I used my task manager to monitor when I was playing games. It doesn't have to spike to 100% for the fps to drop, as you can see in the D drive (my HDD) the disk only spiked a little bit but the lag was noticeable. I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I have a benchmark here of my system parts and the condition they're in: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/43347022?fbclid=IwAR0_Yf6TI3Jo-33iBpATlXNnDhGJMQ7Hq75OznN96RWfMzSrH8TsscjUKPE I haven't been able to find anything online that narrows down the exact problem, I don't mind replacing anything, but if I could have assistance narrowing down what exactly i need to fix i would be eternally grateful.

Okay really need some help here. I just got a new 240GB SSD to replace my old 120GB one. I migrated all my OS files and stuff onto the new drive and it all went fine. However, every now and then I kept getting a sudden boost of the SSD activity to 100%, but with 0KB/s read and write. The 2TB HDD remained doing nothing. So I tried repairing windows, nothing changed. Tried resetting windows and keeping files. Nothing changed. I've now reinstalled windows completely and it still happens! I have resource monitor open, everything is normal there, until the drive starts getting 100% usage, then everything under "Disk" in RS disappears. This never happened with the old drive and I'm not running anything new that I wasn't before. Anyway have any clue what's going on?

Hi For the last several days my laptop has been showing a 100% usage on the disk drive even on idle. I know that it might reach that state under heavy load, but considering the fact that it does so on idle is a bit worrying for me. I think it is a hard disk problem but am not sure. Any advice on this would be highly helpful. If needed, I will list down the specs for my device.

So...for the past few months or so,my LG g4 has been extremely sluggish. To the point it's been a pain to use. So I did my typical troubleshooting, ran antivirus, checked my apps, ran system monitors to check the ram and cpu usage...ect ect. And I couldn't find anything. Until I decided to use simple system moniter and saw...this. My read speeds are almost always capped at 100% ._. (It's also worth noting that my phone gets hot randomly sometimes during normal everyday usage (texting on Hangouts, using the Google app, YouTube) not even during intensive things like games....not sure if it's linked to this at all,but it gets really annoying. Once I get home I'll post an Aida 64 thermal reading I took when it happened a week ago. ) So..I'm guessing the disk usage is the cause to All of the sluggishness, and I don't have any strange out of place apps, some social media, emulater apps, and some launchers. And I'm trying to find an app moniter to tell me what's using the disk so much but can't find one,so. Anyone have any input on my situation or maybe have had the same issue? I'm really not sure what to do except clear out all my downloads,or factory reset...so. anything is greatly appreciated ?thanks

i noticed that my cpu would not down clock and would run at max turbo even at idle. A quick look in windows 10 task manager revealed that i had a constant write on my C: drive (SSD) of about 25 MB/s. Even at idle with no applications open for hours on end. turns out windows defender was constantly writing to c:/windows/logs and running about 15% CPU usage. after disabling windows defender anti-malware via gpedit.msc, my cpu now down clocks, while idle, my ssd sees much less activity and my cinebench score moved from 630 to 733. Is this a fluke on my PC or is it something that may be affecting others without them noticing. over the pass month ive had over 2 terabytes of data written to my ssd. My setup: i7-2600 @4.07ghz, 16gb, gtx 970, corsair neutron xt (SSD)

Hello internet, so I bought my gaming computer roughly one year ago, I built it myself. I'll list specs at the end, however, I'm in extreme need of some help with my disk usage problem. My computer boots to my desktop then immediately goes straight to 100% disk usage and under task manger it shows absolutely nothing using it. It's been like this know for awhile now about 6 months. I've tried all of the internet tricks that I felt comfortable trying, such as disabling super-fetch, which I did and it still does it, so now I'm consulting online help. Please enlighten me with the knowledge to figure this out. I have wiped my computer completely clean once before to attempt to fix it, which it did for about a month and then it returned. Help my disk usage is at 100% whenever I try to do anything. Specs: GTX 1080, Ryzen 1600x, 8GB DDR4-2400 RAM, 2 TB WD Black Hard Drive 64MB Cache 7200RPM 6.0Gb/s, Windows 10 My PC is having a hard drive problem. Whenever I try to do anything on my computer my disk usage shoots up to 100%. I looked at task manager to see what was the problem was and it seems to be constantly changing. When I boot up steam and or downloading something steam is causing the 100% on disk usage. When I am idle or trying to do something on internet explorer its one of these programs running causing the 100% disk usage: system, Antimalware service executable, service host: windows image, service host: local system, wsaapx or something else from Windows 10. I cant even download anything because the disk usage is at 100%. I already tried: Running a diagnostic to see if it is a virus, using windows error check on drive (Nothing Found), Using windows optimizer on the drive(Found that optimization is not needed), disabling SuperFetch, disabling windows search, uninstalling skype, disabling one drive, following this guide to optimize windows 10 for gamers and resetting virtual memory, and disabling anti-virus software. Nothing seems to work. Please help.

Greetings, everyone! Last month I got a new desktop, which HDD is a Western Caviar Blue of 1TB. Everything works fine with it, except that while I use After Effects or render with Sony Vegas, the disk usage goes up to 100% in the task manager. Here's a few things I've tried so far: - Disabled Superfetch & Windows Search - Disabled BITS - Ran chkdsk on Command Prompt None of these seem to have worked, though again, the 100% usage only happens while using After Effects and while rendering with Sony Vegas (at 1080p60). My specs are: - Intel i5-6500 Quad-Core 3.2GHz - Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB DDR4-2400MHz - MSI Z170 PRO GAMING CARBON - MSI GTX 1060 Armor V1 3GB - Western Caviar Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD What do you think might be causing this? It's very annoying because while I use After Effects I can barely do anything else on my computer and when rendering with Sony Vegas, my computer goes unusable. It's bothering especially because I know for a fact that with these specs, the computer can multi task just fine. Thank you in advance, - Nervly

I'm despair on a strange problem. My system runs since almost 2 years without any problems. Since about a few weeks I got the problem that when I'm playing a game like overwatch, after a few minutes, textures and 3D models starting to disappear. After a while the whole game will freeze. When I try to tap out the window the other applications in the background starting to freeze and becoming unresponsive.First thing that came to my head was the RAM. But after I opened the task manager, I saw that the main SSD (Samsung 960 Pro m.2 on DIMM.2) "active time" jumped to 100% and stays that high. Then I have tried to reproduce this behaivor. I can easily do it when I run Furmark on both GPUs. After a few seconds, SSD jumps to 100% and applications starting to freeze. The strange thing is, it will not happen when I only use one GPU. But it's not one of both GPUs that produce this problem. I've tried GPU 1 and 2 separately without any problems. when I use both, yea... you know. It's not a temperature problem. Both GPUs run under water. The SSD temperature is on a normal level. The system is not OCI have updated some of the motherboards drivers in the last few weeks in a month so I can't really say when the problem began. What I've already tried to fix this behavior: Installed the newest GPU driver and one of February Removed Norton Anti-Virus Check the system for malware Installed all current drivers from the Asus website Installed Samsung NVMe Driver 3.0, 3.1 and the Windows NVMe default driver Closed all background applications before testing Switched from BIOS1 running UEFI 1704 to BIOS2 running on UEFI 0802 Reset UEFI settings on 1704 to default DIMM.2 over PCH instead CPU Disable SuperFetch Disable PCIe power saving in Windows Updated Windows 10 to 1903 Samsung Magician says "State: Good" and "Newest firmware installed; 4B6QCXP7" Removed all ASUS crapware PC-Specs OS: Windows 10 Pro (1903) CPU: Intel Core i9-7900X (delidded) Motherboard: Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme (UEFI 1704) RAM: G.SKill TridentZ RGB 64GB GPU: 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N Hydro Copper SSD 1: Samsung 960 Pro M.2 1TB (on DIMM.2 Socket; Firmware 4B6QCXP7) SSD 2: Samsung 850 PRO 2.5" 2TB PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 SLI-Bridge: ZOTAC SLI HB Bridge / 2 Slot Any ideas, what the problem could be? The last thing I can try is to reinstall Windows but I'm not sure if this could fix that problem. The whole behavior makes no sense for me. I'm gonna cry :( My baby is so sick :'( :DThank you

my disk usage randomly spikes to 100% and then highlights processes that are only taking up to 2mb/s. its a 1tb 7200rpm. this was taken 30 seconds into my computer launching so i am assuming it is supposed to happen because it is a hard drive which is slow but it also happens hours in. spikes to a hundred for a while and i continue to do what i was doing and goes back to normal eventually. any idea on what it is?? i have tried a few things online but they didnt help or should i not be worried at all because its not a problem?

In windows explorer, it says that my C drive has 76 GB of free space out of the 222 GB it has total. However, looking in the folders located in that drive, they account to 109 GB. 222 -109 = 113 so why does windows report that it has 76 GB free? Are there 37 GB of ghost files or something? I'm at a loss here and could use some help. My C drive is an SSD btw, it's an NVMe m.2 drive. I have used Defraggler to optimize the drive already, as well as Win10 drive check.

Hello, this is my first post on any forum like this and since I watch a lot of LTT content i tought I might as well just come here for help. I have a HUGE problem with my Sony Vaio SVE171E13M (the other model name is SVE1713S1EW). So for a very long time I had a pretty common 100% disk usage problem, you know it's nothing terrible tbh just had to replace my HDD. But even after replacing the HDD to an SSHD and installing a fresh copy of Windows 10 the problem still occurred. After that I tried everything like disabling Superfetch, WIndows Search and other stuff like that. I also completely cleaned all of the hardware and SATA connector, updated my BIOS, updated SATA drivers and everything else I could update. Changed my ram sticks and even tried installing WIndows 10 on another fully working HDD and still the same problem. I connected my SSHD to my PC and booted it, there was no 100% disk usage problem on the pc only on my Sony Vaio. I've looked all over multiple forums and NO ONE has the same problem as me. I have no idea what to do with this I tried everything I could and still to no avail. If you have any idea what to do then please try to help me.

As you can see in the photo, simple tasks, alot of usage, the only thing that's happening is that I clicked the League of legos icon to open like 2 min before taking this sc (and it still didnt open e.e), the mbytes scan. 90% on fucking CPU? 100% disk? System specs : Core 2 Quad 3ghz Q9650, GTX 1050 ti 4gb, WD 7200rpm SATA 3 6gb/s 250gb HDD, 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz, windows 10 pro. No viruses in the pc, just scanned. I formatted the pc not more then a week ago. Please help

Hi, I am just a bit curious about SSDs and don't have a lot of experience. On my PC (using HDD), the disk usage is usually at 100%. I know there are a lot of ways to reduce disk usage. But if we think for a long-period solution, if I upgrade the HDD to SSD, will the disk usage percentage decrease? Thanks.

So I have a dell inspirion 15 7000 which is an i5, and it's been running rather slow lately. I don't think I have a virus, I just think that Windows defender is working overtime. Looking into my task manager I noticed that google chrome and "antimalware service executable" which when extended shows windows defender, are using pretty much all of my disk usage. My ram is at about half, which I also don't think should be happening either, but I think the disk usage is what is slowing it down. Any idea how I can fix this?

Hey guys, I can't remember when it started, but now whenever I look at the taskbar, my disk usage is always 100%. Now don't get me wrong, my process disk usage is about 50%, but my performance disk usage (disk 0) is 100%. For some reason it's always reading and writing. So far I've tried: Stopping Superfetch Stopping Windows Search Removing Avast (seemed to work until i rebooted the pc) Checked for disk failures Tried to increase ramsize under system settings Disabeling Windows tips. I don't know what to do anymore and although it's not computer breaking, it's annoying when trying to update a game like payday.

While playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided this happened (fantastic game btw). This was as the game was loading the next level. This is on my desktop running windows 10: I have a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO Sata SSD as my OS drive and the game is on a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO Sata SSD. I have samsung's rapid mode enabled for my OS drive in samsung magician. I am wondering if anyone can shed some light as to why the disk usage reported in task manager is so high? Is it the way it is calculated somehow? Only 4% Total usage but apparently 70GB/s just from the game!! Seems legit seeing as it is a standard sata drive. Samsung Magician reports that with rapid mode enabled I get reads of approx 7GB/s and writes of approx 6.2GB/s on my OS drive. See image:
