Hello, I own an HP EliteDesk 705 G5 SFF PC with the following specifications: - Ryzen 5 3400G - 1TB WD Green SSD - 16GB RAM - RX6400 GPU - ChimeraOS I'm curious to know if anyone has successfully upgraded the CPU. I know there's a list of compatible CPUs such as the Ryzen 5 Pro 3600, and I'm aware that I'd be limited to the Ryzen 3000 series, which is acceptable. However, I'm unable to find clear information confirming whether I can simply use a regular Ryzen 5 3600 or if I need the Pro version for compatibility. Unfortunately, there's no option in the BIOS to disable integrated graphics. Some HP support forums suggest it's an automatic switch when upgrading to a CPU that lacks an iGPU. However, I've encountered conflicting information, with some sources claiming it works seamlessly while others suggest being stuck with the original CPU. Does anyone know if this upgrade should work? Better yet, has anyone attempted it on this specific PC and achieved success?

I currently have an I9 12900KS with DDR4 Ram in my mostly gaming/sometimes blender computer and it's been working great. I'm looking to upgrade (maybe in a few weeks), and I'm looking at the Ryzen 7 7800X3D for that. I mainly use my computer for gaming (MSFS 2020, Cities Skylines, Minecraft, etc) with some occasional use of Blender for either 3d modeling or animation/rendering. Would it be a good upgrade for my machine? Or should I go for something else?

Current Specs: CPU - Ryzen 7 3800 XT GPU - RTX 3080 FE AIO Cooler - EK AIO 240 Mobo: ASUS AMD AM4 ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR4 3600 Mhz PSU: Seasonic Focus Gold (Plus) 850W I know there's been a couple of posts here about it, but wanted everyone's current take on this topic. The 5800X3D just went on sale on Amazon for about $322.00 (usually priced at $449.00) and I wanted to know if that is a good value/decision to upgrade from a 3800XT. I know that 7XXX series is a better choice at this time, but I would have to get a new AM5 mobo for it as well. I plan on staying at AM4 for a bit just as a choice, but I know I would need to upgrade the mobo as well in the future, just not in a rush to do so. I currently game on a dual monitor setup (ultrawide 3440x1440 120hz Alienware monitor and 2560x1440 LG Monitor) and just use the PC mostly for gaming. Let me know what you guys think or if I missed anything.

Upgraded from a 3900X to a 5900X tonight. Upon starting my pc after install, it immediately goes to BSOD Machine Check Exception, then to WHEA Uncorrectable Error. Tried without XMP, right into WHEA. I've reseated my CPU twice, booted into Windows for about 30 seconds and then it BSODed again after logging in. Currently just boot looping into a BSOD. Aggressively Googled this and nothing I can find works. I'm on the most current stable BIOS release. I've cleared CMOS. CPU idling at 41⁰C according to BIOS. I can't get into the OS so I can't get dumpfiles. Booting into safe mode doesn't work at all. Is my new CPU defective? Any help at all is much appreciated and much needed. I really have no clue what to do.

I'm looking to upgrade my Ryzen 9 5950x either later this year or next year, and I'm reviewing options right now. I'm looking at the Ryzen 7000 and looking at the 7950X and 7950X3D. I mostly use my PC for fairly graphicly demanding games, Blender work, rendering, etc. And my cpu is currently at a -25 undervolt. If I'm going for AMD for my upgrade, the 7950X and 7950X3D are looking to be my two options and I'd like some help on which one to go for. For the regular 7950, it has slight higher base clock and, from what I've read, has better productivity performance over the X3D because of it and from what I've read is a little more overclocking friendly. However, the 7950X3D has 3D V-Cache, better gaming performance, slightly lower TDP and has similar Boost Clock to the regular 7950. But it has slightly lower base clock and productivity performance, not as overclocking friendly as the Regular, and is a bit more expensive from what I've seen. On top of that, I've read that there is also supposed to be a special scheduling software that needs to be downloaded so that the X3D CCD can be used effectively? I'm quite torn between these two as one seems to look like it is better for productivity and the other looks to be better for gaming. I value gaming and productivity equally and don't really have a preference between them. In addition, I would like to try overclocking for my upgrade. Nothing too major, just enough to get a bit of a boost that I can daily drive. Again, it looks like one is better suited than the other. So I'm quite torn between the two options. Any thoughts?

Hi, all I have an old ASUS X54H (on the back it says the model is X54H and the motherboard is K54HR, but on the actual MB it is written K54LY rev 2.1). A long time ago I successfully upgraded its CPU from Pentium B970 to i7-2620M (both are Sandy Bridge processors with a TDP of 35W), thinking it is the second best option for my motherboard. Lately, I have been looking for an even faster CPU - a quad core one. After a long research I have found the Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU (which is an Ivy Bridge CPU with a TDP of 35W as well). I am not a 100% sure about its socket because on the Intel website it says it is the BGA1224 but on many other websites it is shown precisely as the rPGA988B (my CPU is removable btw). For now let's say it is going to fit. My main concern about this upgrade is that the chipset - HM65 - doesn't appear to support this processor, or at least it is not in the compatible products section on the Intel's website. The second concern that I have is the BIOS compatibility. Currently I have the BIOS 204 but on the ASUS website for the K54LY i see version 208 available which has a description saying "...5.Update CPU microcode". I don't know what that means but I hope it translates as "We added more supported CPUs" . Question 1: Do you think the upgrade is going to be successful or are you 100% sure it is going to fail Question 2: What is the worst that could happen if it turns out the CPU is not be compatible? I am afraid of damaging the motherboard. Anything else (not booting, garbage on the screen, etc.) is acceptable since I could just put back the 2620M and get back on track. Question 3: There are other i7 quad core CPUs compatible with the HM65 chipset. However, all of them have a TDP of 45W. If I fit one of those will this motherboard be able to feed the CPU with enough power (for now I am not concerned with overheating)? Is it going to get damaged? Will a more powerful AC adapter be required - current one is 19V/3.95A/75W? This guy "successfully" upgraded to a 45W CPU. He did have some problems but I think they weren't CPU related. Excuse the long novel I ended up writing but I wanted to provide as many details as possible. Thanks to all who read and replied .

Hey there, everyone! I'm Ekto, and I could really use your help with upgrading my 2017 27" 5k Retina iMac. I've been doing some research to see if it's possible to upgrade to a 9th Gen Intel CPU. My goal is to give my device a boost and future-proof it until I can afford a full desktop PC build: My research so far has been kind of fruitless. Most of the posts I've come across end with something like, "Well, it should theoretically work with an i7 9700 (non-K) since the socket and TDP match, but there might be compatibility issues with the EFI firmware." What surprises me is that I haven't found any solid evidence of someone actually attempting this specific upgrade, and with a lot of the Tech subreddits participating in the current blackout for due to the API pricing changes still, it's not making things that much easier. So, I thought I'd try turning to this forum for some info on this. If any of you have any knowledge or advice regarding an upgrade like this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you all in advance for your time and assistance! PS: Here in the forums, people to seem to be split about this as well:

TLDR: can an IMAC 27in 2017 be upgraded with 8th/9th gen processors? Found a listing for an iMac 2017 at a really good price and am considering it, problem is it uses an i5-7600 cpu (4 cores, non hyperthreaded), personally would rather have more than that (perhaps a 9700k or so) so would it be possible to upgrade the cpu to an 8th/9th gen processor?, they do have the same socket?

After i upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 5 1600 to a Ryzen 7 2700x sleep stopped working both in windows 11 and macOS (OpenCore Hackintosh), so a bug in the OS is unlikely(?) When i try to wake the machine up, it lights up, the fans spin up, and than it hangs for 3-5s before its rebooting. I get no errormessage in the eventviewer of windows. What can i do to troubleshoot this? I'm out of ideas what the issue could be. What are the odds that the cpu is faulty? Other components: Gigabyte B450 Aorus M (Bios Version F63) AMD RX 580 Samsung 970Evo Plus 2TB Corsair CX550

So recently I bought new PC parts to upgrade my new rig, the new parts being: Ryzen 5 5600x MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Gskill 32gb Trident Z Neo I was wondering if after replacing my old parts and switching from intel to amd are there going to be any software issues e.g I read up that I may need a fresh install of windows or is it as easy as replace parts launch pc. Would buying a new boot drive be helpful as well? so basically im worried if there will be issues I won’t know after upgrading and would like some advice. Thank you very much for reading!

Hi, I wanted to ask if it is worth upgrading my CPU from i5-9400F to anything else, I have an RTX 2060 and I don't consistantly get 144fps in some games, is upgrading the cpu even going to do much? I would gladly upgrade my GPU if it wasn't for the current state of the market... Thanks.

Hi there everyone. Videographer/filmmaker in Durban South Africa. Been in the videography space since 2018 but fully took it up last year. My rig is as follows: CPU: i5 8600K (never been overclocked) GPU: AMD Radeon RX580 (ASUS Strix edition) 8GB MOBO: ASUS B360 Prime 2TB Hikvision [SATA SSD] 11TB of HDD storage (2x 4TB and 1 3TB) 500w PSU 32GB DDR4 RAM (2666 Mhz) It's served me quite well up to this point, Although I do find only 6 cores and 6 threads has limited me. I noticed this since my boss at the agency in which I work upgraded to an i9 10850k. This was specifically to edit RED footage for an advert that we've been commissioned to do. To say I was impressed was an understatement. That processor scrubs through the 6K timeline lik absolute butter. Coupled with the GTX 1660 in the box it does quite a respectable job. I've finished my stint in the office and am now contracted to go on a documentary shoot which will see me earn a healthy sum for 16 days on the road. I was thinking of upgrading my MOBO and CPU to a Ryzen 9 3900XT or 3900XT (strangely the latter version seems to be cheaper on e-bay, not sure why though). I'm not even thinking of a GPU since I think the RX580 has enough virtual RAM to make do on the editing rig. I don't even play games (my friends all roast me for this since I have the perfect gaming CPU), as I'm only interested in productivity and specifically editing. I use most of the Adobe suite (Premiere, Audition, Photoshop,After Effects), but since I'm a Fujifilm shooter I stricty use Capture One instead of Lightroom. SO my main concern is, if I can't make budget for the Ryzen CPU with the MOBO (preferably an x570 motherboard), is the 10850K (with a new MOBO of course) still a respectable upgrade option for my needs? Your thoughts/opinons are most welcomed.

Budget (including currency): 1500 Euro Country: North Macedonia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Premiere Pro ( heavy video effects, 4K and 8K video ), After Effects, FPS Gaming Other details Currently I have: Intel I7-5930K Asus Strix x99 Gaming x2 - 8GB Kingston Hyperx Fury x2 - 8GB Kingston Hyperx Predator Asus Strix GTX 1060 6gb MasterLiquid Pro 280 ( Dont remember the exact model, on mine only the block is different ) Cooler Master V750 - 80 PLUS Gold Power Supply --------------------------- So I would like to upgrade the CPU and Motherboard on my 5 year old PC and I cant decide what to get... I was thinking of AMD 5930x or AMD 5900x, for the motherboard I like the ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F Gaming The other option I was thinking is to wait for the new AMD5 boards and Zen4 CPU to come out ( hopefully next year ) and buy them, so I can have even better parts and the option to upgrade just the CPU after 4-5 years. Or maybe I should get Intel CPU since the integrated GPU helps the playback and render on Premiere Pro. ( Noticed that on my MSI GS65 Stealth Thin 8RF ). The GPU is okay for now, my main goal is to have a better PC for Video Editing.

Worth upgrading from i5-8400 to i5-9600k?
RealAxm3d posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
My Cpu bottlenecks my GTX 1070 and i watched now some Benchmarks for the i5-9600k and would like to upgrade to it from a i5-8400. is this worth? -
I upgraded an old iMac from a Core 2 Duo T8300 to a Core 2 Duo T9900 (it previously came with a T7700). Afterwards, when attempting to turn it on, the fans spun up, turned off, turned back on and it was stuck on a black screen with no chime. The 3 leftmost LEDs on the motherboard light up, with the LCD LED staying off. I suspect it's to do with the fact that the new CPU has a 1066 MHz bus while the RAM is rated for 800 MHz. Can this be fixed by buying DDR2-1066 modules for it?

I want to upgrade my CPU and motherboard as I've notice a drop in performance over the last 2 years. I live in the UK and my budget for both CPU and MB would be £400 in total. As an engineering student I use SOLIDWORKS (3D modelling software) a lot and I also play Rainbow 6 siege. When I have task manager open I can see that R6S takes up 40-60% whilst Solidworks takes 20-40%. I've also seen that when i open and try play Fortnite I get lots of fps drop and random freezing when I never had an issue like this 2 years ago. So I'm wondering if it is my CPU that is holding my performance back or something else. (my GPU has latest Nvidia 1060 6gb drivers) These are my current PC specs CPU - intel core i5 7400 3Ghz + Stock cooler GPU - MSI GTX 1060 6gb PS - Be Quite Pure Power 10 500W 80+silver MB - Gigabyte H110M-S2 RAM - Corsair 2x8GB 2400 speed 240gb 2.5" SSD OS + 1TB 2.5" sata SSD + 1TB HD If it is a CPU upgrade I need then these are what I'm thing so for to buy on boxing day sales (26th Dec): i5 10600k ryzen 5 3600 ryen 5 5600x ryzen 7 5800x Would u recommend any other CPU, bare in mind I do not want to spend on a new Power supply and preferably try to save money if the higher end CPUs won't make much difference.

Hello, I currently run a pc with the specs down below. I am really stumped on what to upgrade I'm having some cpu usage issues when recording and having a few tabs open during gaming causes 100% cpu usage with barely any apps open. I also am lacking a bit on newer games due to the 1070 I used to have a 2070 but sold it months ago hoping to get a 3070 instead for them money I made off it and we all know how that went luckily i had a 1070 lying around from a previous build. So my question is where do I go with my pc seeing as gpu prices are outrageous. i5 9400f Gtx 1070 FE MSI z390 A-PRO 32gb lpx 3200mhz 4x8gb hyper 212 evo cooler Thermaltake rgb pro 650watt modular psu 80+bronze 1tb xpg nvme ssd 8tb barracuda 5400rpm hdd Musetex phantom black mid tower atx case Resolution:1080p 144hz

As the title says, A friend has purchased a new AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, upgrading from their old Ryzen 5 1600. They, however, forgot to update the BIOS before switching prossessors. This wouldn't be an issue if they hadn't then dropped the 1600, bending multiple pins. After trying to bend the pins back, he was able to get it to go into the MOBO (with force), and post, but only had access to Windows for about 15 seconds before it shut down. He is concidering buying a new MOBO, but doesn't really have the money. Is the CPU salvageable? Is the only option left either bring it to someone with a 1st gen Ryzen processor or buy a new MOBO. He has stated if he needs to bring it to a tech / someone else who he would pay to update it for him, he will just go buy a new MOBO. Thanks for the help.

Hello, I upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 3600 to a Ryzen 5800x, and now it’s not posting. I thought it was most likely that I didn’t update my BIOS to a version where it will support the new CPU, but when I swapped back to the old CPU it’s also not posting. It was working perfectly fine yesterday before I put the new CPU in today. I have removed the CMOS, short it and put it back in. I have unplugged the GPU and replugged it, I have removed the RAM and reinstalled them, try to start with just one stick and I have swapped the cables to the display (HDMI and DisplayPort) and none of them have worked. I've checked that every cable is connected to the MB, disconnected all peripherals (except K&M)...Fans and LEDs turn on so I don’t know what else to do, I would appreciate it if someone helped me. Monitors work since I've tried them with my laptop and they show image. I am currently running a system with a Ryzen 5 3500G, a 5500XT graphics card and 16 gb of ram. I was planning to upgraded my cpu since it might be limiting my pc when it comes to games like apex legends and things like rendering videos in blender. I currently have a budget of $400 for the upgrade. With the budget that I have, what cpu would be the best option?

The boot light stays on, the system cannot detect any usb device. Its stuck on the screen that asks the user to press F2 to continue, but i cannot do that since no usb devices work. Weirdly this screen does not come up when i reinstall the i3, all usb ports work. The i5 8500 came from a working system, so am pretty sure it works, I no longer have access to that system so i cannot test. Sometimes it powers on but stays on the cpu debug light, I have given it max of about 10 mins before i restart and clear cmos. It will then slowly cycle thru the ez debug lights then stop at boot, with no usb devices working. It also seems sometimes when cycles to the post light it insta restarts then gets stuck on the cpu light. I have tried 2 different ram sticks, repasting the processor, updating the bios that failed, becase m flash cannot see the files even when they have been extracted to the root folder, and i have tried clearing cmos. Non of which worked.
