Hello guys. I used a search engine and found that the possibility to run CoffeeLake processors on Sky\KabyLake motherboards was brought up here before, but did not receive a wide coverage, even though there are many people who have good Z170/270 motherboards and want to upgrade their obsolete 4C/8T i3s i7s. Many such cases. The modification itself is more than a year old, but it's better late, than never? To those who are interested, I present the translation of this guide below. Thanks to all the people who made this modification possible and to the all people who contributed to this guide. I am not a native speaker, so corrections are welcome. 0. Before You Begin. 26/10/2020 I bought Lenovo ideapadl340 15IRH and in march my laptop motherboard got damaged so Lenovo sent me a new one and since then my CPU is not performing well. On battery its stuck at 0.79GHz even under stress test its stays on 0.79GHz on the other hand when I connect my ac adapter the CPU clock speed goes back to 4 - 4.07Ghz which is relatively high(I think so) As soon as I put it under any kind of stress(on battery) it thermal throttles and the CPU temps jump from 45 to 95 within seconds. PLEASE HELP ME as my laptop is still under warranty and I can get the motherboard changed if its some sort of hardware problem. SYSTEM INFORMATION :- IdeaPad L340-15IRH Gaming 8GB RAM CORE i5 9300H coffee lake 1TB HDD Windows 10 single language Here are some Screenshots from XTU This when the laptop is not plugged in (thermal throttling even the when the temps are normal) UNDER STRESS XTU 5MIN STRESS TEST WHILE PLUGGED IN (4.03GHz idle when plugged in ) XTU SETTINGS

I recently switched away from a B250 + i5-7400 combo to an H310 + i3-9100F one... The i3 is a pretty decent CPU and for now is serving me well, as I rarely do 3D gaming (but when I do I play flight simulators or space simulators such as SpaceEngine [not Space Engineers]). Also I like virtualizing alternate operating systems for testing. Wanted to exit Kaby Lake which has been discontinued and offered no affordable upgrade path, and went to 9th gen (as Comet Lake is still kinda expensive in Brazil)... So chose the MSI H310M PRO-M2 Plus Mobo + the Core i3-9100F. Is the i3 enough for my usage or will I need a CPU upgrade in the near future? If yes, which one will give me the best bang for the buck? The 6-core/6-thread i5-9400F or the 8C/8T i7-9700F?

Update: Together with @unclewebb wo really helped me out, I managed to find a way via Intel XTU to trick the CPU into thinking it's undervolted while it's actually, which allows it to draw more power. Enableing SVID is crucial as without it will never even achieve these clocks. Setting the CPU Voltage Offset to -0.465 in XTU allows me to get an all-core of 4.6 in Cinebench and a score of over 4600. Anything higher will be to much for my air cooler. Thanks webb! Original Post: Hey there, my 9900k on my Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Aura only runs at 3.2Ghz at mid/upper 60°C and a VCore of 1.28 according to HWMonitor during an all-core Cinebench R20 run (giving me ~3200 points instead of ~4800 on my MSI Z370-A Pro). AI Suite 3 gives me "Floating point division bey zero" errors while showing the same data. What's even weirder is that when idle or light load it boosts up to 4.5-4.8Ghz. Changing the voltage doesn't do anything. AI Suite gives me a power draw during load of around 105w (HWMonitor not working, 6w). On the Z370 it gives me a power draw of 160-170 (via HWMonitor). Also only one ram channel works. If I put more than 2 sticks in it won't post. Sticks are working fine if switched or on other boards and worked fine on the Z370 board. Works fine with Bios 2103 Coffeetime I really hope anyone knows what to do in order to get those clock to a reasonable level. Sincerely Timo System:

Intel is claiming their upcoming 8700k will be 11% faster compare to 7700k in single threaded operations, as they held a training event for retailers in China. The slide also shows that, it will be the very first time, where their i3, i5, and i7 will have a cpu core bump. Where i3 are quad cores and both i5 and i7 are hexa cores with i7 having hyper thread, total to 12 threads. https://videocardz.com/72112/intel-claims-i7-8700k-to-be-11-faster-than-7700k

So I have decided on getting the new i7 8700K and I plan on trying to overclock it to about 4.7ghz to maybe around 5ghz, wo with that I need one of the new Z370 boards and I was wondering which I should get? I have kept my eye on the Gigabyte AORUS Ultra Gaming and the ASUS ROG Strix Z370-F my max spending money would be about about $350 AUD. alos I am using the H100i v2, figured I could save the extra $100 from the NZXT Kraken x52

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/intel-core-i7-8700k-benchmarks.html Here the 8700k at stock 3.7ghz only gets about 1230... to put that in comparison my cpu (1600) gets 1200ish (just did one quick test) at 3.7ghz. That's only about a 3% improvement in terms of ipc yet the 8700k is going to about 140 more. Sure the 8700k can overclock higher, but the statement at hand is still mind boggling imo.

I've been having some trouble deciding whether to upgrade my Core i3-6100 to either an i7-7700k or i7-8700k. I use my PC for gaming and rendering small game clips to upload to show my friends. I think that for only £100 more I could get two more cores than the i7-7700k with the 8700k. I'd like some opinions on if whether the 8700k's 6c/12t buying for £400, compared to the i7-7700k's 4c/6t for £100 cheaper. Note that I am open to overclocking. I'd like to be able to run games on max settings at 1080p and have headroom to upgrade to 1440p in the future without upgrading my CPU.

Hey guys and gals, I'm in the final process of planning my new i7-8700k CoffeeLake build. Just was wondering what, if any, recommendations you all would have? I tend to get some good advice from you all (sometimes haha) and was just wondering what the general input is. I have already got on a waiting list for the CPU, and the motherboard and RAM was just ordered earlier today. I am actually mostly looking for any case suggestions (although any other suggestions are welcome). I would like to stay with a similar sized case but I plan on going SLI sometime next year and building a custom hard-line loop in it, so good radiator support is important while staying within a mATX mini-tower or mATX mid-tower. I already have one big system and would prefer to stay as compact as possible. Things like TG are important to me, rad support, and to an extent good air flow. I kinda ruled out the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX TG for this reason as the top exhaust is almost completely enclosed and I think it would be a bit too restrictive for air flow. Even though it is my favourite looking it would not be good for water cooling. Also with the plan of going SLI, is 850w enough? I would imagine it would be fine as PCpartpicker says all the components draw 763w (in SLI), but I also know PSU's are most efficient at around 50% load. I'm not budget shy about going for a 1000w PSU if it is recommended. I would like to stay around the $4500cad budget I have right now, and I need a high-resolution ultrawide monitor to fit in the budget as well. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions! So since the sku's dropped something that I though was a misstep on Intel's part is it appears that there are only 2 overclockable sku's in the coffeelake lineup. Cores/Threads Base clock (GHz) Turbo all cores/one core (GHz) L3 cache TDP Price (EU, inc VAT) i7-8700K 6/12 3.7 4.3/4.7 12MB 95W €388 i7-8700 6/12 3.2 4.3/4.6 12MB 65W €327 i5-8600 6/6 3.6 4.1/4.3 9MB 95W €273 i5-8400 6/6 2.8 3.8/4 9MB 65W €192 i3-8350K 4/4 4 – 8MB 91W €189 i3-8300 4/4 4 – 8MB 65W ? i3-8100 4/4 4 – 8MB 65W €123 This struck me as a huge opportunity lost as since all Ryzen sku's are overclockable, Intel has to start meeting them where they are at. It's nice they finally had their hand forced to give us more cores, and initial IPC and multitasking performance improvement look promising, but them not unlocking all their sku's or offering 8 core variants as well shows a lack of foresight to me.

I have a g4560 with a gtx 970 on a b350 board for my PC, but with some newer more cpu demanding games, the g4560 is starting to fall behind. Im also looking to get a high hz monitor (120,144 etc) for some games at 1080p. So essentially im looking to get a new cpu with a bit more power soon. Im looking to spend ~£200 (give or take 30) so For a while i was eyeing the r5 1500x and a b350 board for OC, but now the i5 8400 is here with 6 full cores and good single core too, but that would require a new motherboard too (i am willing to wait for cheaper ones tho). There is also the option of buying a used/new kaby/skylake cpu for £100-200 without needing a new motherboard, such as a used 6500 for £110 https://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SCPUINTI56500KA for less performance but cheaper. Opinions?

So i just faced this question a long time ago and just kept on getting evidence one is that COFFEE LAKE Processors were rushed into market due to AMD's rise back but what my point is do you think intel lost their magic with great and innovative cpu's i want to get your opinion if what intel did was a great move or just to get another cpu out their to compete with ryzen

Exactly what it says. I have been F5 on Newegg all day. Helping my friend with his Coffeelake build (Im staying AMD for now baby ) I saw for like a minute the Intel Core i3-8350K and I5 8600k Appear on Newegg, get sold out, now server is down. I don't know if a seller jumped the gun, because now you can't find them, or if the traffic crashed that part of their website.

Hello guys, I am stuck between using the ryzen 3 1300x or the i3-8100. I know the zen architecture is trash but there are affordable motherboards right now. Also I have a budget of about $550-$600 and have to have a 1060 3gig.

Hi, I am willing to buy a new pc soon for an upgrade to my current system which is 6 years old. What I am looking for specifically is getting the least out of the hardware to achieve max performance for all new and even slightly old titles. Currently, 7700K takes the lead of having higest frame rates on games, and that's after Intel's new launch today for coffee lake. My thoughts are; Should I buy 7700K or wait for cannonlake's launch (I don't mind waiting at all) because they might get 4 cores back for hardcore gaming and performance can be higher. I feel like buying 7700K now is a waste because it's came in last year, and since then Intel had no improvements whatsoever, just tiny tweaks and basically a better version of the last one. What do you think?

I do know these are serious allegations, but I need to know what the fuck is happening. Article for reference: http://www.pcgamer.com/intels-8th-gen-processors-deliver-a-huge-jump-in-performance/ I cannot understand how the 7700k got higher gaming scores than the 8700k and I believe that these benchmarks are flawed. I just think that @LinusTech could be spreading misinformation because the results are a mixed bag online. I included pictures for reference.

So i'm building a new pc and I'm most likely going to get the i7, but I want to hear what people have to say about the ryzen 7.

Can anyone confirm to me that RAM speeds dont make a big difference in gaming with the coffeelake chips? Id assume that it dosnt, i just want some co firmation tho

A few months ago, I posted a thread about an upgrade path that I should pursue. Fast forward to now and I still haven't made the upgrade to Ryzen. And a good call for my part since coffee lake just got recently released. But now, I'm having more of a difficult time to decide which I should go for. I'm leaning on an i5-8600k (going to OC to atleast close to 5ghz) or a Ryzen 5 1600x (paired with X370 Taichi or a decent B350 motherboard that can reach 4ghz flat OC only if possible). I'll list all the intended use for the rig below. 1. Mainly gaming (AAA Titles and latest titles like Shadow of War, the upcoming Assassin's Creed Origins, etc.,) at 1080p @ 60hz (144hz in December hopefully). 2. Video Recording and editing (mostly recording games at 1080p 60hz and gonna edit them to upload on YT) 3. Streaming (something that won't lag for the viewers if ever. Say 1080p 60fps?). I'm planning to keep my RAM, PSU, and GPU to be used in the next build. Buying a new case for this one (Eyeing the Fractal Meshify C). Ram = 8gb 2x4gb DDR4 2400 Corsair LPX CL14 PSU = Seasonic M12II 750w evo ed GPU = XFX RX 480 GTR Black Edition Or is there something else that I should change or upgrade? Can you guys offer me some suggestions like if I were to purchase an i5 8600k, what are the things that still needs to be upgraded (other than the obvious motherboard and CPU), or if I were to purchase a Ryzen 5 1600x (ram concerns and motherboard selections)? Thanks in advance you guys.
