Hi, I tried posting this below another person who had a similar question, but probably the post was too old to get an answer. So I'll try again with a new thread, hope this isn't agianst some rule somewhere I'm new to this forum. Sorry if it is! I haven't upgraded in quite sometime but end of year should bring some kind of config with a 3080/ 6800xt and new Ryzen to me. And with home office having taken over my life I'm looking for a good work / casual gaming monitor a bit before that upgrade. I'm a bit torn between choices of specs and looking for your opinions and experiences to decide on a model. -My work mainly covers CAD, 3D, Photoshop and InDesign (for print) so great colour accuracy would be nice. I also do some hobby photography. Not sure what that means translated to colour space coverage I thought it should not be much less than 100% of sRGB. -My gaming needs should be somewhere middle of the road, minimal 1440p, around 144Hz should be good / nice to have. I haven't been playing games for quite sometime but want to get back into it. Mostly single player probably. I think size should be around 27'' or larger but not huge. I'm not particularly looking for a ultrawide / widescreen although they are nice (at work we have something like the Samsung C34H890WGU, not sure if it is this exact model). At the moment I have a 1080p / 60Hz, 23inch at home. So I'm hovering a bit around different choices: - Should I go 4K? - Does anyone know if it's good value for money for my work use, any experiences would be appreciated. - I think for gaming I could live happily with 1440p for a few years and I'd probably get more from 144Hz than 4K / 60Hz. If I go for 4K / 60Hz is G-Sync / Freesync even an relevant feature? - Should I go after HDR? - Is my assumption right that it won't be worth chasing after it. As far as I have found out it is quite difficult to find a good bright HDR panel that doesn't add massively to the price. I think same as with the resolution I could wait the few years until my next upgrade. Most newer monitors seem to have some form of HDR capablity anyway. - How important is GTG response time? As I understand the 'How to choose a monitor' post, everything around 5ms should be fine for my needs. Any differing opinions? These are some of my candidates in no particular order, feel free to add other models. What are your experiences if you have one of these? Hi guys ! I would like to see if my rig could be more efficient, in case of bottlenecks. First of all, I got a i9900K, 32 Ram 3200, and I recieved a Quadro 4000 because I planned on using that computer for CAD, basic machine learning, computations... But I'd like to be able to do gaming as well and apparently that first GPU is not optimised for that. I thought about buying a 1660 Super, as I did not want to spend really much money on the second GPU. Do you think it is fair or should I invest more money to avoid a tough bottleneck ? Advices? So I've been planning to build a new PC for awhile now but have but am having trouble picking the cpu, and what form factor to go with in general. My biggest problem is I am an engineer that does 3D CAD and computing intensive programs like MATLAB. I've had trouble figuring out exactly where to throw my money in this build mostly because I'm not sure which parts these programs will stress I.e. do I ball out on a 6 core cpu or will a quad be just fine? Is it worth the money for hyperthreading? Each of these choices are the difference in a few hundred dollars so I wanna make sure I'm not overspending. Lastly, if it is worth balling out on a cpu where else could I save money without sacrificing quality (psus, ssds, etc.)? Thanks!

Hi, I have never built a computer before so I appreciate all the help I can get. I am based in the uk around London and work in prop making for the film industry. We are using large amount of 3D printing, laser cut and Cnc components so I need a computer that can handle large 3D files, possibly 3d scans. My next job may require me to draw/edit 3d cad drawings almost everyday. Rhino 5 and/or solid works are the most likely packages I will install. Multiple monitors would be useful. I also enjoy making my own short films, and need to be able to edit large video files like gopro footage. Later down the line I'd like to start playing around with digital effects. Of cause I need to be able to do the basics like web browse, email, a DVD/blu ray would be handy if possible. I am currently only a trainee so I'd like to keep the price down if possible but I also see this as an investment as I would like to have a fast and useful computer for years to come. My budget is between £1000 and £2000. I know those are wide goal posts but I'll take your advise on where the balance lies for money spent to what I need. I have been getting by using my Sony vaio laptop but it is 7 years old, windows xp, painfully slow and the hinges are ripping out. It's nice to have a mobile computer but I'm willing to sacrifice mobility for a better stationary machine if the price is much better. I don't have any components to start with, will need to buy monitors keyboard mouse and I need a new operating system. I am familiar with using computers but I had no idea how complicated and how much variation goes on inside them, I started looking on the dell website and have been trying to swat up on what means what using the great Linus tech tips youtube videos that led me to here. Any help will be appreciated so much!
