  1. I'm looking to purchase a laptop for university work (research, writing reports, excel spreadsheets etc) & general usage (media consumption) with a budget of £750. To clarify, I do not intend to use this for gaming and so I don't need a dedicated GPU. My main wants are a good display (ideally 14 inches but can live with up to 15.6 inches) & decent battery life (at least 5-6 hours). I also believe that at this price the laptop should have at least a 12th Gen Intel CPU or the AMD equivalent, 16GB of RAM & a 512GB SSD. I currently have seen an ASUS Zenbook on Amazon (linked below) which I believe meets my criteria but as this is my first time purchasing a laptop, would like some help before buying it. Any help is greatly appreciated and if any extra information is needed, I'll try to reply as quick as I can. ASUS Zenbook - Deal of the day: ASUS Laptop Zenbook 14 OLED UX3402VA 14.0" 2.8K 90Hz Touchscreen OLED Laptop (Intel i5-1340P, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11) Intel EVO Certified https://amzn.eu/d/eLs3bjC
  2. Hi, so I'm browsing my country's local GPU buy & sell thread here and I'm seeing quite a few tempting deals on used GPUs, such as RX470s, RX580s and GTX1650s. A bit weak for the average user on this site, but for the games I play at the 1080p resolution I play at, they're just enough. So before I decide to sink my money into any one of them, what questions should I ask the sellers regarding the cards?
  3. I currently have an ROG Flare and I'm not really happy with how it feels, the keys are too wobbly. I want a real mech because I don't think a new mainstream keyboard will be much better than my current one, but there aren't any that have all the features I want. Here's the list of options I have so far, all 4 mainstream ones are on display at my local Micro Center but the other 2 I don't think are available for demo anywhere. Features I want: Fullsize with numpad - the extra space would be nice but the numpad is really handy in some games and for unlocking the PC Volume knob and media keys Style Good lighting that works with SignalRGB USB passthrough Under $200 Does the Ducky, the Keychron, or any mech board have good enough feel to justify giving up so many features?
  4. well hello there, I am looking for a monitor upgrade I dont know Much about monitors I am using a local brand cheap monitor I bought 3 - 5 years ago and could really use a upgrade I dont care about the price My budget is around 1700USDs I want two monitors (one for Video editing, modeling, all the artistic stuff and one for gaming, watching YouTube videos ) i want one one to be an ultra Wide and one to be a normal one and also I have two separate rigs for both things (one is a threadripper 3970x workstation) and one is a 5900x Rig (yes I am a AMD fan boy) I dont care about refresh rate that much a 120 or 144 hz will do good enough and yeah thats all .
  5. Hey Guys I need some advice on a new psu my build is below and I am looking to spend no more than £125 my only requirement is that it works everything else I am open to. PSU: Gamemax 1050w 3-4 yrs old rgb verson (Currently having issues) mobo: asus prime b450-plus 12-18 months CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 WC 6months ram 32gb Crucial Ballstix 3200MHz 6months GPU AMD 5700 xt OC WC 18 months TP-Link archer TX3000E 6 months PCIE 4 to USB C 1 year 4 x NF-F12 pure wings 6 months EISBALL DIGITAL RGB ACRYLIC 700ML RESERVOIR 2yrs 4x HDD's varies TIA David
  6. I live in Europe and ordered a Corsair AX1000 by my local retailer. but now i got word that the product is no longer available with the supplier after two months. I chose this PSU for the Watts i needed and with some extra capacity, and chose for a 80 PLUS Titanium because the pc will be on for extended time. and I thought that it was a digital power supply was not sure as well as the prize a the time and future proofing. Now i'm torn between three PSU that are available by my local retailer for almost the same prize. Corsair HX1200i - 1200 Watts 80 PLUS Platinum Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 12 - 1200 Watts 80 PLUS Titanium Seasonic Prime TX-1000 - 1000 Watts 80 PLUS Titanium Please some advice which is the better choice to get. for a Gaming/Workstation PC Ryzen 5800x Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero X570 RTX3080 suprim x Gskill 32 GB Corsair 5000D airflow case Corsair iCUE H100i Elite Capellix Corsair QL 120 case fans
  7. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD450s that I've had for 3 years. I enjoy the sound profile, but man they're uncomfortable, so I'm looking for a pair of wired, closed-back, over ear headphones to use while working (long hours). Mic isn't important, most important is sound quality and comfort around the R2k mark (~$150). I was looking at Logitech G Pro X (and non X) but I don't think the sound will match my 450s and reading around gave me that impression, also looked at Razer Blackshark V2 but had concerns about durability and also the sound quality. Also considered m40x, but they're pricey in South Africa (>$160). Beyerdynamics have the same issue where it's over $50 more in SA (if you can even find them). Checked r/headphoneAdvice recommendations page but most not available locally. Hyper X cans are also sold out everywhere here (and import through Amazon adds $50 to cost not to mention reliability issues) and to be honest, I would like to lean away from GAMING headphones (the logitechs were just understated enough and comfortable). I checked the suggestions on this forum as well, but it seems Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  8. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C5CVC91/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_T6b2Fb73BP58Z https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZRTKP6D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_45b2FbA374NXV https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078S36XWV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_x5b2Fb3KRXX2N https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H1RYPNG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_Afc2FbCD7EZ1Q He doesn't care about ms response and he plays civ 6, rust, civ 5, modded minecraft and battlefield 4. Doesnt need 144hz because he can't get 100 fps in every game.
  9. It's strange how both headphone jacks and expansion card slots have seemingly gone away on newer mobile phones. I can kind of understand in a lot of cases why the headphone jack is gone with the rise and advancement of wireless technologies for audio like Bluetooth, etc., but I liked using the jack for other things, ex. expansion recording microphone, Square payments device. Is it asking too much of a modern flagship Android-based phone for, at the very least, a microSD card slot AND regular updates to OS and security patches? Even on the newer Pixel devices and OnePlus devices I can get the updates but not the headphone jack or card slot. To that end, should I resign myself to spend $200 USD extra on the extra storage model (rather than $40-50 for a comparable microSD card) or is there something out there where I can get an unlocked phone with the current best-in-class or close to it CPU (ex. Snapdragon 865), card slot, and reliable support? Or is this conundrum basically the telecom industry and phone manufacturers collectively flipping me the bird?
  10. Hello everyone. Me and my grandfather are looking for some help. He has been using an old Win XP era pc for the past about 15 years now and he desperately wants an upgrade. The problem is, he doesn’t want to build a pc. He is looking for a computer that he can do modern web browsing on and that my grandmother can play Fishdom on. He would like a DVD-ROM drive so he can use his old media. The best thing I’ve found is this, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-desktop-intel-core-i5-12gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-black-with-silver-trim/6334301.p?skuId=6334301, but I am looking for more suggestions. We would also need a new monitor, keyboard, and mouse, as they all use outdated and incompatible inputs like PS/2 Connectors and VGA. An AiO (All in One) desktop might work for him, but I am worried about those as in my past experience they have had unreliable cooling, were slow, and the included accessories were a waste of money and SUCKED. He probably doesn’t need a graphics card, and Intel would be preferable. All in all, something that can last him another 15 years.
  11. Hello all, I searched the forums for this and saw some advice on splitters/switches and PIP but I think my scenario goes a little beyond and I am looking for recommendations on a specific hub or multiple items I can buy that will get me best results with fewest cables. I have a personal Macbook and two client computers to use in my home office. For sake of space I want to just use my personal ultrawide monitor and have a KVM or switch to split the connection with the other PC's. My issue is in department. My home office was/is my gaming den so my PS4 and Xbox need to be hooked up as well. On top of that I am looking to easily switch my audio between the devices to my speaker, or headphones. On top of this I have a standalone mic that I use, which i would also really like to work across devices (if even possible with the consoles) so I don't need to switch to a gaming headset. Is such a thing even possible? Apologies if this should be in a different forum, but my limited understanding is that the audio may just need to be split out from the monitor, but something makes me feel like there is a better method.
  12. Just searching around for a replacement laptop and this laptop got good reviews as a work machine, light but excellent battery life. Then on the asus website it seems to be 50% off pretty much. Am I missing some major red flag? I only want the i5, and 512GB SSD is fine for me. Could this be a scam or have some major problems with this laptop showed up since all the reviews? I know it's only intel 10th gen rather than 11th, but I don't see that as a problem. Battery life still seems very good. Thanks! The link i'm looking at: https://shop.asus.com/ca-en/expertbook-b9-b9450.html
  13. Hey everyone, I'm following the age old tradition of a novice tech person going to a trusted forum to ask about peripherals. I would also like to preface my post by saying I did try to read the how to buy guide and it left me more confused than when I started it. So I'm running a 3060ti, I just got $390 for my birthday and I have enough money saved up to push my budget to $600. I have more than that but I don't want to go too much higher than that. I've been using an Asus monitor that's 1080p and 144hz but I feel like now is as good a time as any to treat myself to my first 4k monitor. I would love to hear all of your recommendations on what monitors to go after. Thank you! Edit: I also want to add that I'm gonna keep the asus monitor as a second monitor using a dual monitor stand. my stand only supports 27 inch monitors and up to 14 pounds
  14. Im a student and have been looking to upgrade from my old probook 450 g4 to this, but it seems too good to be true.https://www.lenovo.com/ch/de/laptops/yoga/yoga-slim-series/Yoga-Slim-7-Pro-Gen-6-16-inch-AMD/p/LEN101Y0005
  15. Hello! I need to buy a new laptop, as the battery life on my 2020 razer blade stealth is not cutting it for me in graduate school anymore. I originally bought the blade thinking I will game sometimes, but I have a real desktop now, (3080 + 5800X3D), so I don't need a laptop with a gpu. I do however, want a120hz screen, as I have gotten used to the smoothness and 60hz just doesn't do it for me. Good battery life is also a must. My price range is up to 1800 dollars. Looking for recommendations! Thanks
  16. Hi guys, so this is probably going to be a long post so bear with me. Recently I've realized that the Samson C03u USB mic I've been using and enjoying for a long time is starting to die on me so before it completely gives up the ghost I decided that now is a better time than ever to redo my audio setup and make it a lot better but I honestly have zero knowledge of audio hardware so I have no idea what the best options are for me. Like I said up until now I've been using a USB mic but I've wanted to move to XLR for quite some time now (mostly so I can monitor the audio without delay) but I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to need to get an XLR mic working, so I've been researching and came to the conclusion that I'm either going to need a mixer or an audio interface. I've decided that I'd prefer to get a mixer over an audio interface because having a mixer should also give me the ability to change volume levels for my stream in hardware instead or software (which should save me a lot of alt-tabbing to OBS all of the time because "the audio is not quite right"). I know a mixer is probably going to be more expensive but the convenience is worth it to me. But after deciding that I want to get a mixer I got completely lost. So I hope you guys can help me here. The idea is that I'm going to have a couple of channels on the mixer. One for my mic (of course), one for my game audio, one for my VoIP audio and preferably one for my background music. Than that audio would need to get back to my PC to be used in OBS but I would also need to get that audio to my headphones (Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 Ohm) which is were another question arises for me. Can I plug these relatively high impedance headphones directly into a mixer or would I need to plug it in to an amp first? I'm currently powering them using my build-in audio and it sounds very good to me so up until now I never saw a reason to get a dedicated amp but I don't know if a mixer is going to have an amp powerful enough to power these headphones. And if I need an amp which one would I need and how would I connect it to the mixer... But there is more... When I'm streaming I often have someone in a call on Discord and they should only hear my mic, not the game/desktop audio so I'm guessing a mixer would need to have another output for the mic alone? So as you can see I really have no idea what I need in terms of equipment and if the things I want are even doable so any help is very welcome. As far as budget goes I don't really have a hard cap but I'd prefer to spend less than 300-400 euro's on all of the equipment I'm going to need. If it isn't possible I can always spend more but let's just say I'd rather not if I don't have to.
  17. Hi Guys! My current Samson C03u is dying so I'm in the market for a new mic. I've already decided to go for an XLR mic this time around and after doing some research I'm torn between the Rode NT1-a and the AT2020. The AT2020 is about 80 euro's cheaper here in the Netherlands but it doesn't come with a popfilter or shockmount like the Rode does so if I would buy the AT2020 I'd have to factor in those costs as well. I'm going to be using the mic for Discord calls while gaming and for the occasional Twitch stream. The interface I'm planning on buying is the Rode AI-1 mostly because (if I understood the specs correctly at least) they should be able to power my 250 Ohm DT 770 Pro's without to much problems. TL:DR: Is spending 80 euro's more on the NT1-a going to be worth it or should I just go for the cheaper option and get the AT2020?
  18. Hello! I wanted to ask you guys what you would go with if you had to decide between an XPS 13 and a Macbook Pro 13. I would buy the XPS that has 8gb RAM, 250gb SSD and an i5-7200u with the Full HD display. This would cost me 1530€. For the Macbook I would go with an i5, 8gb of ram and a 128gb storage, non touchbar verison. The laptop itself would be 1440€ but I would also buy an additional 500gb external ssd. I really cant decide between the two, size and weight is practically the same, performance is the same, I don't care about the OS. The big benefit of the mac is the brilliant screen with great scaling, but the xps has more battery life and way more IO (altho it is still poor). What would you guys go with? Any alternatives at the same price? Keep in mind I cant get the LG Gram or the Razer stealth in europe unless I want to pay an absolutely crazy premium. Thanks.
  19. Hello friends. I'm a law student/filthy casual gamer/musician who spends a disgusting amount of time working and playing on my PC (alongside some music production). I use a Macbook Pro mid-2014 w/Retina which I used to connect to my monitor via Thunderbolt. Thing is, my LG ultra-wide (34UC97) suffered irreparable panel damage recently, and has as a result been consigned to the recycling centre. As such, I'm looking for a new display. Here's a list of what I'd use it, for: Many continuous hours of document work (built-in screen separator is a plus, VESA is a must) Gaming (mostly strategy games like EU4, maybe VR in a year or so when I get a desktop) Entertainment (higher brightness, HDR type features would be lovely) And here are just a few of my personal preferences: I/O-wise, I need something I can connect to my Macbook (until I get the desktop), which has two Thunderbolt 2.0, and a standard HDMI port. Aesthetics-wise, I'd prefer something sleek and professional looking over the omnipresent gamer stylings most high-spec displays seem to have (and there's the law student in me) A decent refresh rate would be nice too (not quite sure what 'decent' is nowadays) Well, that's all I can think of at the moment. If I missed something obvious/essential lemme know, and I really appreciate any help or direction. I'm really quite lost without it. Anyways, cheerio! Some British guy
  20. https://tucson.craigslist.org/sys/d/custom-built-computer/6245394447.html Im on a budget and found this build. The card is old but it will run the games I want to play csgo lol and overwatch. I've heard bad things and good things about the mobo. How should I go about purchasing this rig I talked him down to 300. Should I ask to play a game on the rig if not should I decline the purchase
  21. Hello! My PC specs are in my signature, and I'm currently using a Samsung PX2370, and it's got me feeling a bit dated, I've got a few scratches in the middle and top-middle of the panel that have been disrupting me while gaming on occasion here and there, and this is prompting me for a nice upgrade. I have 25 2/8ths inches of width in my monitor cubby in my desk to play with, and height/depth isn't really an issue, so I'd prefer a 27 inch panel. I'm looking at a budget of about $500, with capacity to go slightly over if it's a great buy. Latency is important, as I play a lot of competitive games like Street Fighter and Tekken, where frame perfect combos and punishes are not uncommon at all. 1920x1080 vs 2560x1440? I'm sure my GPU could handle 1440p maxed out on most of my games and I'd like to get the best out of that. I do tend to play a lot of very pretty games and want them to really shine. 60hz vs 144hz? Is the difference really that noticeable? My research tells me yes, but I would love some practical reasons to spring for it. Gsync? I hate screen tearing but part of me wonders if I get so much of it because of the age of my current display, I'm not sure. It sounds like a great benefit, are gsync monitors bound to 144hz refresh rate though? I think so? Built in speakers are in no way shape or form required. No thanks lol. I would prefer a somewhat adjustable stand with vertical movement and tilt, no VESA mount required though. A curved monitor would be really nice, but likely out of the price range if I'm being real with myself. Who knows though, that's why I'm asking here. I think that covers most of what you need to know about what I'm looking for? Throw me some suggestions!
  22. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S8, and I want to get a good smartwatch to go with it. I have looked at the gear s3, but it seems like it doesn't have many apps, the fitness tracking is bad, and I despise those bubbly-looking icons on Samsung devices. I've looked at a few others, but they all seem to have a few glaring issues. I'm looking for a decent watch that looks nice and performs nicely. Any suggestions?
  23. I'm looking for a new laptop for school and a little gaming, would buying a gaming laptop be the best option for price to performance? I am not worried about touchscreen or anything like that, and I am just looking for a good traditional laptop. It seems that all of the study or business laptops that I could buy seem way over-priced when compared to gaming laptops at the same price. Would that be right, or am I missing something? Thanks P.S I'm going to bed so I'll reply to any answers in a few hours. See you then!
  24. Hi, as the title suggests, I'm looking for a good combo along with an AMD Ryzen 3700X. I've wanted to upgrade my PC for about 6 Months now. CURRENT SETUP: - CPU: i5-4570 (Stock cooler) - Mobo: ASUS Z87-C (Rev 1.xx) - RAM: 2x4GB from one vendor and 2x4 GB from another (DDR3 something) - GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB from Gigabyte - Power supply: Something with 450 Watt from BeQuiet - Samsung 860 EVO Sata SSD and some WD Blue HDDs - Badly cooled case - OS: Manjaro Linux (currently on Kernel 4.19, but I can upgrade that) The whole PC is about 4 years old and the OS running for about 3 years without reinstall. I originally started out with 2 HDDs and a 750 Ti. Later I upgraded that and the RAM (hence two different kits). I never had a problem with the PC (runs rock solid). TYPICAL WORKLOAD: - Mainly playing Overwatch (using Lutris (Wine and DXVK)). - Sometimes gameplay recording using OBS and NVEnc (shadowplay'ish). - Converting Videos using ffmpeg (mostly from H264 to H264) - Developing (e.g. doing compilation of source code) UPDATE REASON (maybe skip this): The CPU runs well, but usually at 50°C on Idle which can be blamed on both the stock cooler and the case (which isn't ideal and not in an ideal spot, too). In the long run, I plan to try 120/144 Hz gaming since I only heard good things about it. When playing Overwatch the GPU is literally bored at about 30% while the CPU is maxed out on most cores. The CPU always reaches 3,4 GHz on all cores never more or less (4/4 cores/threads, 3,2Gz base, 3,6 boost). Since DXVK translates DX11 to Vulkan, there is certainly some CPU-Overhead involved. I'm currently starting to work more and more with C-Projects (Programming) and the insane cache and resulting performance will be very nice. CURRENT PART SELECTION: I decided on the 3700X and went to look for Mainboards on EBay and Amazon. On Amazon, I found this Mainboard (ASUS ROG Strix B450-E) which seems to have enough VRM-Cooling for the CPU. I know that I can get down to 90€ on EBay, but I'm not sure whether they will to will with meeting the demands of the 3700X (I would like to boost as much as is possible without any special settings). I will probably use the Be Quiet BK008 as cooler which should be plenty and offer a nice boost over the stock one. I probably won't be wrong even if the stock cooler will do well, too. For RAM, I'll probably go this Kit. Though I'm not sure about the timings but it should suffice. QUESTION: Is the planned stuff good or am I making a major mistake that I should look out for. My PSU should in theory have no problem with the new combo, too. Is the extra cooler worth it, or it useless for such a build? (I consider less noise as useful) Mainly knowing, whether the Mobo is a fatal error would be nice. Can it cope ok (not perfect) with the CPU? I'll probably purchase the stuff tomorrow (in about 14 hours). GOALS WITH IT: Compile lots of stuff (own linux kernel compilation). Trying some more AAAs I've never come to play. Looking for a 120/144 Hz Monitor in near future if the performance is sufficient for that.
  25. I've finally narrowed down my research to this unreal value-TV that offers HDR10 and DV at an unbelievable offer price of 30,999 INR. I've never been satisfied with an online electronics product this much. So, basically what I wanna ask is that whether I should pull the trigger on this one or should I consider alternatives (if any) available in India? If anyone else is using/has used this particular VU TV it'd be great to have a review. My Room size: 13x11 sq. ft. (Attached pics of my wall and my custom DIY marker frame that I just made to imitate the exact tv dimensions). Max Budget: 35k INR Main Requirement (s): 40-43" diag, 4k HDR with true, natural colours, intuitive and responsive UI.
