Hey guys, I have a Dell XPS 13 9310 from 2021 where the battery is draining incredibly fast considering the workload. We are talking a few chrome tabs and a word document (See attached image). Has anyone encountered this issue or has any tips? The dell software ranks the battery health as "good". Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Hello guys, I am a game developer and i have a desktop setup. Around a year ago i got a laptop for working away from my desktop worst case scenario was to give it to my sibling who is going to uni... It had a 1920x1080 ips mat display a ryzen 5300u proccesor (4c/8t, 15w tdp) with integrated Radeon Graphics (6c), ram configuration was 4g soldered and 8g as slotted and 2g was reserved as vram, a 38w/h battery, m.2 nvme ssd and a 2.5" sata bay... It was a budget laptop some corners were cut, for me the negatives were; - Display colors (reds were basicly orange compared to any other ips display i have seen) - Low battery capacity (even when i worked it was getting 3-4 hours but i just feel like it is just a missed oppurtunity because there is room for almost another one of the battery inside of it just around the battery) - Trackpad pressing function was just bad it would have been better imo to just have no pressing function at all, it was hard to press and non uniform and chasis flex made it worse I know it would not make sense if i expect it to replace my desktop setup but i feel like it could be really close. For reference my desktop setup is a ryzen 2600, a gtx 1060 6g (a small itx version so basically no OC) and 32G ram and it works just fine. That laptops performance was almost completely enough, the thing that was not possible to overlook was low ram capacity (10G functional) when working i quickly filled the ram if my workload got a bit heavier Finally my question is, in short what alternatives to ryzen 5300u i could look for if i want a bit more performance with around the same or lower power consumption and what should i expect in terms of performance / power consumption? I dont really know if intel chips would be as power efficent i dont really know much about mobile intel chipt to be honest so i just looked what is available in my area to chips that were made sense to me here are what i think / wonder about them; - ryzen 5825U or 5875U: these are in tha same family and have the same tdp but how much graphics power can i expect from them since from my understarding they have ~33% more graphics cores? - ryzen 6800U: this one kinda lists a slightly higher tdp (15-28W) i am guessing it is a bit more power efficent in practice and it is more performant in terms of graphics power with 12 core 680m but how much or am i wrong? - ryzen 7840U: this one lists a even higher tdp (28W) is it comparable to chips mentioned above in terms of power efficency? I dont see many models with newer chips but models with 5000 series chips are readily available in my region also i see newer chips that have "hs" insetad of "u" suffix and they even have dedicated gpus usually not that much of a price difference can these chips used as efficently as "u" chips And any intel chips that compare to these in terms of performance / power consumption? Has anyone else experienced battery issues with their Poco X3 after a software update? My phone's charge is depleting rapidly, even after a factory reset, and now, it's acting up by discharging while it's supposed to be charging. Any insights or solutions for this problem?

Battery life has taken a gander off the deep end. From 1+ month it's now down to a few days at most. The mouse has been out of warranty for ~4yrs now, and I've had it for ~5. I'm thinking maybe I can replace the batteries with a Qi charger (similar to Logitech's Logitech G PowerPlay, but done on the cheap with a custom PCB under a mousepad, or even the PCB working as the mousepad), but I've never seen anyone do something similar. Another option would be to drill a hole in the front of the mouse, and internally pass a couple of wires to the battery enclosure, and use a DC-to-DC converter to regulate the voltage down to 1.5V. Any suggestions? Has anyone done something similar? I really don't want to give up on the 602 just get because I love the shape, but also for financial reasons...

Is there a 75% (or 65%) wireless keyboard with Bluetooth that automatically turns off the backlight but not the Bluetooth connection (or at least waits much longer before disconnecting)? I had a Keychron K3 v2 which goes to sleep after 10 min, and upon wake, it takes a few seconds to reconnect and fully turn on backlight. It's a bit of a hassle for intermittent reading and typing. The only option was to disable sleep completely. It's also what I don't quite get: Does Bluetooth cost a lot of battery compared to backlighting? I think it's appropriate to turn off the light after 10min, but why the Bluetooth... Same problem with my Bluetooth mouse, 900h advertised battery life, yet sleep can't seem to be disabled.

Hello folks, This is my first post here on here. I'm glad to join your community! So, my Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05H came in yesterday. A solid machine and it definitely performs well! However, the battery life is not what I expected it to be. I've tried optimising battery life the best I could, but I can't seem to get more than 3,5 hours out of it. When on battery on only use it for Office applications, video and browsing. Here's what I've tried: - Applied Lenovo Vantage intelligent cooling profile. - Installed Ryzen Controller and created a battery saving profile that limits the CPU TDP to 15W; - Activated hybrid mode to make use iGPU. I can confirm the RTX 2060 GPU is not doing anything unless I'm gaming. There are no visible spikes in task manager; - Changed power plan settings to limit CPU usage to 60% on battery. CPU usage is around usually around 10-15%. - Disabled keyboard backlight; - Lowered screen brightness to around 60%; - Tried changing the refresh rate of the display to 60 Hz, but this doesn't seem to be possible; - Disabled startup programs; - Enabled Nvidia GPU Activity icon. No rogue programs or applications use the dGPU. Considering my Legion has a 80 Wh battery, shouldn't it easily last 6+ hours? I believe I've seen 60 Wh batteries last longer than my laptop with the exact same configuration. Would love to get help on this!

Today I was playing a game then all of a sudden my laptop showed a message saying battery ran out of charge or something like that then shutdown, whilst it was plugged in. I thought it could've been nothing so I charged it back to 80 percent then played a game whilst it was plugged in. Then after 5 minutes my PC shutdown again, so I check my battery and its at 0 percent like last time. I want to know what's happening and how to fix it. Also it charges really quickly too now for some reason.

for some reason the laptop runs really hot even if the load is almost idle, but sometimes if i restart the laptop cools back down and runs at normal temps, but this doesnt work every time for some reason, the stuff i do is the exact same but it can be 8h battery with cool to touch or barel 3h and the fans are going nuts while still burning up

Has anyone seen a comparison of the battery life of windows 11 against windows 10 in laptops?

I have an Asus Zehyrus M GU502GU with i7 9750h (undervolted) and GTX 1660ti. I mostly play games on it so it remains connected to the power supply most of the times but recently while using the device unplugged I've noticed that I'm getting terrible battery life. It has a 76whr battery which used to last me around 6hrs a couple of months back or so. Hwinfo shows that my laptop is consuming 33Watts of power even when the brightness is cranked all the way down, with no applications running and wifi turned off. Nvidia Optimus is properly configured so it's not an issue of the DGPU running in the background and Hwinfo confirms this. CPU utilization shown in the task manager is normal (1-3%) so I am unable to figure out what's causing my laptop's battery to drain so quickly. Please help.

Are there any laptops where max charging limit can be set in the firmware (UEFI)? This could be useful in cases where one is using Linux on the laptop with it always plugged in since the software to limit the charge percentage is not mostly available in Linux and only on Windows. Are there any gaming laptop where you can turn on the laptop without opening the laptop with it plugged in? Like having power button accessible with laptop lid closed. If your laptop display goes bad, is it impossible to use the laptop with it connected the external monitor to access the firmware or boot-screen? Is it the case that most laptop manufacturer? Hi Since about a week or so I have a problem with my battery on my Samsung A51: It drains way faster than before. When I look in the battery usage stats the combined percentages of all the apps are not as much as how much battery percentage is already gone. So for instance: this morning my phone was fully charged and right now it's on 20%, so normally when I combine the percentages of all my apps that used battery today it should come out at 80%. But when I combine them I get a total of 54,1%. Has anyone an idea of how this is possible? Thanks in advance Senne

I came here with the hope to find some advices or ideas in order to find my next laptop or maybe show me another way to my problem. As I stated I study Computer Graphics and Sound, which mean I work on: Image Processing 3D Graphics (engines, image synthesis, raytracing ) Sound and Music Processing Some IA/Machine Learning So I'm working with quite resources needy stuff. Right now I have a MSI GE62 7RE Apache Pro(rev 1.0) with the base following specs: OS: Linux (Mint 20 Cinnamon) Windows 10 Home CPU : Intel I7-770HQ (4 cores at 2.800GHz) GPU: nVidia Geforce GTX 1050Ti (mobile) 4GB of video memory RAM: 8GB - DDR4-2400 Storage: 1x M.2 SSD Combo (NVMe PCIe Gen3 / SATA ) SSD (approx 125GB not sure on that ) 1x 2.5" SATA HDD HDD (1TB) I added an additional 2TB HDD drive by replacing the optical drive. I mainly use Linux daily for work mainly (although I also browse the net and I barely play on it) Good points: I love the keypress Screen is good I/O is fantastic: 1x Ethernet 1x HDMI 1x USB-C 1x USB-A 2x USB3.0 Mini-display port SD card reader Audio Jack In Audio Jack out I bought it in 2018 for quite a reasonable price (it was in promotion) but there are some issues that on a daily basis are becoming more and more hard to deal with 1 - The battery life is horrendous This one might be a problem related to Linux having sometime a mitigated support regarding nVidia cards driver however I've read on many instance that MSI laptop are know to have a bad battery life. But I can't afford having less than 1 hour of battery life while working on lightweight programming or even web-browsing. My laptop is almost always plugged-in even though I pay attention not to left it plugged all the time so I don't damage the battery life even more 2 - The keyboard layout As I currently reside in France, I have an AZERTY layout. But some keys are ridiculously placed, especially for programming. - the '<' and '>' keys are directly next to the 'ALT GR' which combined with how braces,brackets and parentheses inputs are working on a AZERTY layout often leave me typing nonsense. - in order to acces 'HOME' or 'END' I have to use the 'Fn+PGUP' or 'Fn+PGDWN' combos - 'DEL' , 'INS', 'PGUP' and 'PGDWN' are located juste above the numpad and they are just soooo small 3 -It get's toasty This laptop always had cooling issue, it would get hot even while idling. It's hot during winter, and outright burning my left wrist during summer. Out of fear of having heat related damage I had to buy one of those laptop cooling pad (the platform thing with fan inside) -> It takes a lot of space and can't envision to travel around with it in my bag It comes with a functionality that allows me to crank the fan to the maximum by a simple button press -> the noise is horrible, especially during class. Cooling is quite a spiny issue during summer, but brining along the cooling pad during class is just impossible because of the size and fan boosting is okay but not too long because of the noise Otherwise I'm quite happy with it I can do all I need, for now at least but I'm growing more and more tired of all the drawback I've evoked. That's why I've began searching for a new laptop but I don't really know for what I should go. What I know is the following: - I need a decent GPU for 3D and GPU accelerated computation. Nvidia might be more indicated I think. I don't know anything about AMD GPUs. - I don't really care about the CPU manufacturer, but AMD seems to be more and more promising (even if I heard here and there that Linux have some issues if AMD it seems?) - I would prefer separate audio in/out ports - Ethernet port - Better Storage solutions, I currently have 3 drive, two of them are HDD, not quite ideal - A better keyboard configuration, although the AZERTY layout might introduce some irregularities compared to QWERTY layout I just don't want to have weird key positions like having '<' or '>' being between the space bar and alt gr. I don't really mind if there is a numpad or not, I'll adapt - I know how to get around simple problems related to Linux and I'm patient enough to take the time to fix them, but I need a machine where hardware and software won't clash against each other This is not urgent per se, my current laptop will certainly carry me long enough to finish my studies, but once on the job market, I think it won't be sufficient enough. I want to thank anyone in advance for any piece of advice or some recommendations you all might have. If I forgot to add any details that would make my post clearer please do ask for it I'll try to respond to it as clearly as I can. I'm in search of a laptop with a long battery life that is compatible with an eGPU. The main usage for the laptop is browsing, youtube, and work (programming and light simulations) without access to power a lot of charging opportunities. In my off-time, I like to do a bit of gaming but I thought as a gaming laptop and battery life usually don't fit together an eGPU would be a good option. The current laptop I own is a Surface 2 which is not up to the task anymore for light work and I'm out of the loop what is the current best value options for my application. I'm currently used to a Ryzen 7 1800X, GTX1080 and 32GB RAM (which I don't usually need) in a desktop which would be replaced by the laptop. I've looked at the: Huawei MateBook X Pro LG Gram 17 Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 HP Elitebook x360 HP Zbook 14u What are your thoughts and recommendations on possible laptop choices? Is a slim&light laptop with an eGPU enjoyable for gaming? What kind of a laptop/eGPU would I need for steady 60FPS in recent FPS games? (e.g. Rainbow Six Siege)?

Hey guys, I have a question: What actually changes when you turn on energy saving mode on you Phone? I have Pixel 5 and when I turn on the battery saving mode, i feel like nothing changes, except that it actually has longer battery life compared to when i have it off. Subjectively, everything works just as fast. Is this black magic?

Hey, So i have a galaxy s7 edge, great phone but the battery is awful if i'm honest, i only get around 4 hours of SOT now i know there are people who get over 6 hours of SOT even 7 but i've never gotten that much, I've done everything i can , i've rooted and flashed custom kernels , roms etc. but it's still the same. So i recently got a chance to swap my S7 edge to an IPhone 7 ( Not the plus model but the normal smaller IPhone 7), The only reason i wanna go for an iphone is battery life, everyone keeps on saying that the battery on the iPhone 7 is wayyyyy better than the s7 edge, now that might be due to the tiny screen but a good battery is all i need right now as i use my phone like every minute of the day. So before i swap i want to know if the iphone 7 can last a day of heavy usage ? Any real life battery tests ???? How much SOT do you get? Standby Times?? I currently use the ASUS ZX50VW which has a 5400 rpm 2.5" hdd. I was curious as to how much of a difference it would make for the battery life to replace it with a samsung 850 ssd. What would likely be the delta time of its battery life?

My phone is my primary device for listening to music. I use an Audioquest Dragonfly Black DAC/amp at the moment because it requires less power so is less draining on my battery. My current phone is a Samsung S9. What I am wondering is if any of those ultra large battery life brick phones are any good or even work with AT&T? As the ones I have found seem not to or work very poorly as they do not have 4G support. Or if there is a competitor to Mophy cases that support audio out over USB C? I currently use Bowers and Wilkins P5 wired headphones but would like to upgrade to P7 or P9 ones and a dragonfly red if there is a half way decent phone that supports it. I would happily give up OLED screen, wireless charging, and form factor for a better music experience. If anyone can either point me the direction of a good phone since the Energizer phone was cancelled or charging case that supports audio out over USB C I would appreciate it.

Im going to start to study soon, and need a laptop for it, taking notes and its an IT focused course, so cant go without one. I wanted to Laptop to last for a relatively long time (about 3-5 years) so i mostly looked at ones with Ryzen 5 Processors. However most Laptops on amazon dont seem to have too good Batteries. After looking around i found a few models that looked apealing A HP one with a R5 2500U (integraded graphics), 16gb ddr4, 256gb ssd and a 41 Watt hour battery Asus TUF with R5 3550H, RX 560X, 8gb ddr4, 512gb ssd, and a 48 watt hour battery. (there also is a slighty bigger version with a 64 watt hour battery) I tought when im already getting a laptop, i might aswell get somethhing i can take to friends and play light games on. But i dont know how having dedicated graphics affects batery life when not gaming and just browsing/ writing scipts. can anyone help me out and/or recomend some decent laptops?

Need to buy a Laptop for college, and im unsure what to get. My thought process is that getting a model with a Ryzen 5 will last me longer, and Vega integrated Graphics are way better than intel ones. I will mostly use it to take notes or browse. But id like to be able to play some light games like League of Legends on it from time to time. I dont know if i can trust intel integrated graphics with that. And i dont know how having a deticated GPU will affect battery life if only using light applications like office or a browser. Can anyone recommend something from about 400-700€ For now i would buy hp 255 G7 NOTEBOOK (6UK06ES) wich should be able to run League and has a decent battery. I feel like i could be missing out on some good deals not looking at any intel modes but i dont know what to look for.

I have used both on desktop over the years and I've been wondering whether firefox uses less battery than chrome on android. I prefer firefox over chrome because of the blocking tools + ability to install addons, however, I've been struggling to find any well-made comparisons of the 2 browsers in terms of power usage especially since firefox went full-quantum supernova. I shall use whichever saves more battery, so if anyone has useful information in that regard, please share! And if you have tips on how to optimize them both for lower battery consumption, it will be greatly appreciated! Also what about firefox focus? Despite it being chromium based, isn't it the same as firefox if you were to block 3rd party and tracking cookies + install uBlock Origin? P.S. firefox without addons and disabled 3rd party cookies ofc is preferred, Ik that some addons may increase power consuption, I'm more interested in comparing the browsers in a raw-ish form. Thanks and have a nice one! Edit: I just found out that focus lets you have 1 tab, no addons, no sync and bookmarks so that's a turn off for me. Anyways, I'm focused (hah) on chrome vs firefox battery consumption.

***UPDATE 1*** - The cause of the issue is, after reading some other reddit posts, the continuous use of the dGPU while on battery (indicated by an amber/orange light on the power button LED, instead of white). I have uninstalled Nvidia drivers completely with DDU and booted on safe mode, and the light is still amber, which means that this is a firmware/BIOS level issue with switchable graphics. - After searching around, i found this reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/comments/aspbv2/gs65_orange_light_always_on/, applicable not only MSI GS65 laptops but also other MSI laptops as well. I have tried going into Godmode BIOS and enabling Native ASPM only, but the amber light is still lit. - I have now tried setting Native ASPM to enabled + setting Primary Display to IGFX (iGPU) only in Godmode BIOS, and the light is now white, with Windows estimated battery life in the 6 hours (at 74%). I will run on iGPU only and try to set the Primary Display to other modes in Godmode BIOS in order to further test the problem of switchable graphics on this machine. ***UPDATE 2-SOLUTION FOUND*** - After going back to Godmode BIOS and setting Primary Display to Switchable Graphics, i have reinstalled both Intel HD and Nvidia drivers, and have set Nvidia's GPU preference to Auto-select. The Power button LED is now white (even when plugged in), and on battery Windows estimates put usage time at about 6 hours for 74%. So after all this, the correct solution for this problem should be: 1*)* Uninstall all graphics drivers*: Use DDU, boot into safemode, and Clean+Restart for both NVidia and Intel graphics drivers.* 2*)* Enable Native ASPM*: Boot into BIOS (hit Del key at startup), within BIOS press left Alt+right Ctrl+right Shift+F2 to get into Godmode BIOS, browse to System Agent (SA) preferences => Graphics preferences => Native ASPM => Enabled.* 3*)* Boot into Windows, reinstall Intel and Nvidia graphics drivers (Intel first, then if Power button light is white, proceed to install Nvidia graphics drivers) 4*)* Within Nvidia Control Panel, set preferred graphics to Auto or Integrated Graphic. ***ORIGINAL POST*** Hi guys, i bought an MSI Prestige 15 A10SC at the end of December, and so far, my battery only lasts 4 hours top, while the reviews from publications (LaptopMag, Notebookcheck) as well as users on MSI/laptop subreddits all put it at about 7-9 hours on average. Here are a few links to pics I captured from Windows: 1) Windows estimated battery life (3.5 hours is pretty poor compared to other reviews) 2) Windows reported battery life estimations (generated from CMD). Again, i only see roughly 4.5 hours as the top estimate 3) Battery drained from 91% to 32% in 2 hours (with only wifi on, 50% brightness, Onenote, Excel, Word, and Firefox running during a work presentation) 4) Total capacity drained reported by Windows during the same time period as 3) is too high for my usage during that period Does anyone else have the same problem? Could someone point out what are the potential causes for this and how to fix it? Do i need to take the laptop to a service center to change the battery? Some context: Aside from the default 500gb nvme x2 drive that comes with the laptop, i also installed an HP EX900 1tb nvme drive right after purchasing. I know that extra drives should increase power consumption, but i don't think it can decrease battery life by 50% compared to advertised numbers. I have clean-reinstalled Windows 10 once after i bought the laptop, and im running a -105.5mV undervolt using Throttlestop in both AC and battery mode. Power mode is set to Balance, Dragon Center power mode set to Comfort, fans at Auto. I'm an office worker, so my main usage habit is often Firefox (5-15 tabs) and Microsoft Office. I do play some video games, but only on AC.
