I was wondering, does the term for pc’s, “bang for the buck” mean the best PC for the price, or the best price to performance PC?

Hey all! I wanted your thoughts. I'm wanting to build my first PC. It really sounds fun and I have a few reasons for doing it, but I've done a bit of research, looked at Linus' videos. I'm wondering if you guys think this is a good list or if you could save me if I have any serious compatibility issues. I want a build for the tower to be close to $500 without the GPU, if I have a good reason to pay more, I will but I'm trying to keep this first one small. Right now I have... AMD Ryzen 5 3rd Gen - RYZEN 5 3600 Matisse (Zen 2) 6-Core 3.6 GHz (4.2 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 65W 100-100000031BOX Desktop Processor $229 MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX II AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard $89.99 G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-16GVKB $59.97 Western Digital WD Blue SN550 NVMe M.2 2280 500GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS500G2B0C $44.99 EVGA 600 GD 100-GD-0600-V1 600W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Non-Modular Active PFC Power Supply $35.18 Phanteks Eclipse P300 PH-EC300PTG_BK Black Steel Chassis, Tempered Glass Window ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $49.99 That's about $510 before taxes... I'm thinking I'll hold off on a GPU for now since they are so expensive, this probably won't be used for a ton of gaming anyways, I just want it to be robust and have the ability to do so if it needs to. Like, for example, I know I could probably just get 8 GBs of ram, but 16 GBs doesn't need too bad for a $60 price and the power supply is only $35 even though it's 600 w which my pc doesn't need that much but $35 feels pretty cheap and I'd like the idea of getting a GPU later when prices go down. Did I miss anything? I think I got it right, but just in case, are there any serious compatibility issues? Any recommendations about how the cooling system should be set up with this case/configuration? Is there an obvious better choice in a component that will seriously save me more money? Is there an obvious better choice in quality of component that isn't too much of a compromise pricewise? I look forward to and appreciate your thoughts!

So after moving into uni house share my new pc randomly blew up while i was out the house with the pc plugged in but not even running. At this point the pc was dead and ive had to wait weeks for a psu replacement, which did fix the problem. I found out the psu cable was broken after replacing the psu as well but anyway the problem was fixed. With the new psu set up and the pc working fine for 2 days it happened again, this time while on. There was a very loud bang and the house fuse tripped, cutting out all power. After getting the power back up and turning on my pc again (after disconnecting cables and replugging) there was another bang loud enough that my ear is still sore from it. I have no idea why this keeps happening but am now worried to even try turning the pc on again for fear of the same thing. I used a surge protector last time and even bought a completely new one after the last time it died, which still has surge protection light on. I dont trust the electrics in this house as a socket was hanging off the wall when we arrived and there was water leaking through the upstairs floor just the other day. I dont know if this is the issue but dont get why my pc keeps dying or what i can do to fix it. There were no issues with the pc before moving into the student house - ran it for months at home completely fine Im really lost for ideas and have no success googling this so please please can somebody help with any kind of advice possible Thank you

Hi, I was playing Civ 5 when suddenly my PSU made a loud bang. The PC turned off and the psu started to smell burned, the PC still booted to BIOS after that but I forced shutdown because of the smell. I'm afraid to turn it back on since it might destroy my other components. Im not sure if it was just the surge protection or if it just blew up. Is it safe to boot up or should I get another PSU just in case?

So lately. As we have seen there has been a shit ton of issues lately with the police and how they act. And the various issues around the few shootings of " Black " men. I put quotations around black because there shouldn't be " black " shootings. It should just be shootings. You see there are a few reasons why people are hating on the police so much and are basically jumping on the bandwagon in order to feel right or feel something. First issues that is always addressed is police officers, as police officer you should be trained to DE-escalate a situation, which I think we can all agree on, and I believe they're also trained in it somewhat. But what we have to understand is that they're doing this work to protect you, themselves and the community, sure if its a normal stop, you still have to be on your toes in this time and age if your a police member, cause now there is a nothing but pure hate for cops for a reason. second police officers are human. By human I mean they want to live, no one wants to die or get killed, so if a officer gets a called saying someone got a gun you be pretty damn sure cops are going to roll up with weapons drawn, how the hell are they going to know if a suspect has a gun or not and if they are going to shoot cops on sight or not? They can't read bloody minds. Three we're only human. There is people that are racist no doubt, but there is also people being just plain scared of people. Imagine walking down a street and you see three people and they have on saggy clothes, walking with each other making gun figures and are in tattoos and what seems to be a weapon, coming your way. Wouldn't you feel a little worried, just simply by what they wear and act? Now if they were walking and laughing and in casual clothes like jeans and dress shirts you wouldn't feel scared. You may not realize this people but we are naturally afraid of things that are unknown and what seem to be a threat. For example you wake up and see a wall in red with splatters everywhere and in a location you dont realize whats your first reaction? Obviously freaked out and scared. But if you woke up in a room with a wall in blue and splatters everywhere and still in a unknown location you would be somewhat scared but not as much compared to the first room. What am getting at is HUMANS ARE SCARED, WE LOOK FOR DANGER AND AVOID DANGER. Why do you think when we look into something pitch black and feel a shiver down our spine? Its because we do not know whats in the darkness we are in going without any idea or light into the darkness. Four the media. The media plays a huge part in this who police conflict thing. For example if a news network received that a grandma slipped and fell and a officer shot and killed a black person which one do they choose? Of course the officer who shot a and killed a black person. Why? cause it's gets them ratings and reviews and things that work. Oh a dog died after getting hit by a truck meh, BUT a police officer shooting someone OH LETS AIR THAT. Its all about making money and views and getting the most controversial thing on the air in order to maximize rankings. You really think every news network decided to broadcast the france shooting cause they care ? Okay maybeish, but also to get ratings and views. Five. Is that YOU GOT TO LISTEN TO POLICE OFFICERS. Shit MOST OF THE TIME MOST PEOPLE DONT LISTEN TO WHAT OFFICERS SAY. IF THE BLOODY COPS SAY SIT THE FUCK DOWN YOU SIT DOWN NO QUESTIONS ASKED! You gotta understand that cops have authority, and you gotta listen to them and DONT QUESTION THEM. I have seen tons of videos of cops pulling people over or asking them to stop doing what they're doing but they don't listen, and it leads to escalating the situation. Six Cops aren't movie stars. Look at this video. COPS ARE NOT TRAINED TO WOUND THEY ARE TRAINED TO KILL SOMEONE IF SOMEONE IS HOSTILE OR ATTACKS ANOTHER OFFICERS. Look at this video, look the officer tries to shoot the suspects legs and misses three times. It doesn't work like that, plus cops are trying to be efficient and take down the hostile as quickly as possible, and it can take more shots than needed to take down hostiles and not to mention you lose some ammo, if you got a seven shot pistol and miss three shots as that guy did oops you only got four shots left, and what if you miss the remaining four oops your screwed and requires you to lose some time against a hostile. Seven some cops aren't good and some are. As you can see in the video above other than hitting the suspects arm with a baton in order to disarm the weapon, some random guy also kicks the suspects head/neck for good measure even after he is down, as you can see his buddies back him off because he's being more aggressive than needed. This is what is needed, some cops making sure their buddies aren't being more aggressive than needed, although am not entire sure if that person in the black and white lined shirt was a cop or normal person. Below you can see in the video COPS ARE GIVING MULTIPLE WARNINGS EVEN BEFORE PULLING THE TRIGGER TO FIRE. And some cops firing within a second of giving warnings. Or cops firing because suspects have weapons pointed at officers. Eight the human body can take a lot of damage. You see even with a taser shot and the target down, people can still swing wildly as shown in this video. You see the reason why tasers can be so ineffective and effective is because everyone is different and plus various errors with the taser as a tool, the taser uses two prongs/needles to THAT MUST pierce skin in order to work, if the needles don't penetrate to the skin, then you have to account for different peoples level of pain and tolerance and resilience to pain Below showing a different type of person high on drugs and making the person immune to taser, physical pain and pepper spray. Nine. Hate culture surrounding the police. There is a certain little hate culture around the police and they must deal with that. On a constantly daily basis which isn't good for cops and isn't good for the people either cause who knows, maybe one traffic stop routine could end up completely bloody. In that, hopefully things get better, and people listen to the police and understand some police are trying to do their jobs and protect their comrades when needed. But also remember a bad apple is in every tree.

Hey all I should really be studying for exams and what not but you know computer stuff comes first hahah. A little back story, My Name is Jeremy and I live in Canada (RIP CANADIAN DOLLAR) and I work my ass off to achieve small little things. I am proud to say I was able to build my first pc last month. i5 4670k 16 gigs DDR3 2400 ram (8x2) Msi GD65 z97 gaming motherboard Antec 750w pws Corsair h80i 2x GTX 970 MSI GAMING (SLI) antec gx700 rugged But I want to build another pc and give this main one to my brother so we can lan together. My plan was to not break the bank for a new pc build and remembering linus server system build. [Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epIlB49SNTI] I want to do something around that in particular with the " Dell Precision T7500" or the "Dell Precision 690" I figured out a little problem though Im not sure if the pws will have a 6 pin + 8 pin connector. 1. Budget & Location you can pick up cheap ones on ebay, or even Kijiji but I want something that won't bottle neck the processor and the card for about 600-800 Canadian. 2. Aim The aim of the system is going to be standard 1080p gaming on max settings. I already have the card so I know i wont take a huge blow to the stomach. I'm also going into media production where a lot of video editing software and tech designs on the computer will be used, and i want to be able to multitask like a boss probably in means of having a program like Adobe premiere open editing, while rendering another video at the same time. 3. Monitors 1080p monitors will be fine, and I want triple monitors I have the a long desk to fit all of them fine. 4. Peripherals just want to know any ergonomic mice and keyboard recommendations. currently have the audio technicians m20x with a blue yeti pro. 5. Why are you upgrading? I want to be able to put the system in my room and zone out of the world and dont have a means of keep switching computers. I might need a laptop too so anything that can work well between the system when it comes to transferring data or file sharing. ps any recommendations for good laptops my plan was to get the bare basic to go to school and have my battle station when i get home so Im able to work and transfer files over easily.

Hi I'm looking forward to making my PC quieter. I found really good fan controllers, fans, foam pads and accessories, but I've forgotten about one thing that every dollar spent on a PC would be useless - my speaker system. You see, right now I'm using a set containing 2 small speakers and 1 huge speaker responsible for bass - let's call it subwoofer. I found them in my basement few months ago. I really really enjoy their sound quality (I'm not an audiophile, so I find them more than enough), but it has one huge problem - the subwoofer doesn't work properly. Basically it just releases consistent bass sound no matter the situation, which is very loud and annoying as hell, especially for me. It does it no matter the situation and doesn't even try to adapt to what is being played. I don't think that it's normal, but I might be wrong. Yes, I tried to unplug it, but construction of this speaker set is really frekin' dumb. Basically little speakers connect to the subwoofer and the power brick with the audio Jack come from it. I can't unplug it without unplugging the rest of the set. Yes, I do have iPhone earphones, but their sound isn't that good quality, their soundproofing of the environment doesn't exist and their cable is short and easy to unplug. Yes, my TV (which I use as a second monitor above my primary one) has good quality speakers, but I would have to configure it properly just for my PC. And don't forget I still use it as a TV was meant to be. Yes, my monitor has speakers. But they're sh*t even for me. These are the reasons why I'm looking for some good 2.1 or 5.1 speaker set. I want it to deliver really good sound, be small and cost under 20$ - I don't ask for anything more. And that's why I'm asking you to help me, because I know you're the best Thanks in advance!

I've been playing with the idea of getting a 980 instead of 970. No reason in particular other than i have a GTX480 now and i love the performance of it and how long it has lasted me (about 5 years). I know upgrading to a 970 will still be a MASSIVE improvement, however, is it worth spending the extra cash on getting a 980? For me, it's not so much about the money (i'll have a job in about 2 months, currently in college) but rather the best performing card for the money. Here's how the money will break down in my area: GTX970 @ $420 + $10 shipping (for argument sake) = $485 GTX980 @ $690 + $10 shipping (again, for argument sake) = $789 It's definitely a big jump cash wise (aprox. $300). AMD is not an option! Other PC Specs: Computer case: Corsair 240 mATX Motherboard: TBD (mATX) Power supply: TBD based on the GPU RAM: DDR3 16GB Processor: i7-2600k So LTT's community, what's the overall answer! Thank-you guys so damn much for all the feedback in advance. I've been out of the PC building game for well over two years now.

Hey! I am going to build a gaming pc for $500. Its gonna be for gaming, after light-medium, web browsing, benchmarks, youtube videos. I need a monitor 1080p monitor below $150 (below $100 may work too but I dont see any good quality monitors below $100). It has to have AMAZING bang for buck but not go above my budget. I have been looking for weeks but cant find one so I turned to the forum cause I know they will help me out. If you guys can help I will start a thread for budget gaming monitors and help more people there! any information on the monitor will be greatly appreciated Thanks, Sribeast21

Hi guys! Norwegian tech-head here. I was thinking about building myself a computer, but I don't know what parts make the best bang for the buck in my case! I have been following the LinusTechTips channel for about half-a-year now, and since I need a new computer (the laptop I have is totally ruined) I thought I might build one for myself. Computer parts are very expensive in Norway (about 20-30% more expensive than in the US), and my budget isn't the biggest. IMPORTANT PART STARTS HERE: I want a computer that works fairly good now, but that is easy to upgrade without buying a lot of new parts other than the ones I actually need, that why some of the parts I have chosen might seem a bit overkill compared to other. THIS is the computer I was thinking of building. Can someone help find the right parts for me, without paying to much extra?
