Suddenly Audacity gives this error when opening it Error initializing audio. You will not be able to play or record audio. Error: Internal PortAudio Error. It's so weird beacuse audacity was working fine a few days ago. I have some other audio editing software that are working and have audio, i doubt its a driver issue.. The other day i got this error thinking that a simple restart will fix the issue, so i forgot about it so i opened audacity today and i still get the error. Please help me. Thanks

A GitHub user not working on Audacity suggested via a pull request thar adding "basic telemetry" for user experience improvement should be added. There is no article and this is a developing story still. As of today the feedback on the pull request page from users and developers is overwhelmingly negative. And one of the standout replies: My thoughts: The addition of telemetry, even with an opt-out, to audacity goes against the idea of free software. People are panic-forking the project already, and for good reason. What makes this suspicious is that a user is creating a pull request suggesting telemetry be sent to a Yandex or Google services endpoint. This user has no prior involvement in Audacity, and unclear interests and motives in regards to the Audacity project. https://github.com/audacity/audacity/pull/835

so i used to just Play my keyboard out of the build in speakers. but recently someone gave a mix panel and compressor and stuff. after setting it up i decided to plug the output into my pc, fire up audacity, only to find out that no matter wich of the criptic input names i set it to, it either records nothing,pc sound, or the internal mic. the port on the pc is a mic/speaker combo port, and i am feeding a mono signal into it. i also dont know if i should use MME, directsound or WASAPI, because i have never heard of any of these. the laptop is a lenovo carbon x1 3rd gen. thx in advanec, ruwo

Hi all, I can be a bit of a newb so please bear with me. I'm using Obs studio to record both my desktop sound and an acoustic guitar for a wee project, however I want to separate the audio tracks so I can e.q the guitar and mix it back in. Apparently this should be possible, recording two audio tracks to the one video then using Audacity to open the video file and see both tracks. I got this working once, but when i came back to the project Audacity now doesn't open the tracks properly. I have the Ffmpeg and Lame libraries installed yet still get error messages saying I need them to import the files. Importing Raw data only gives me white noise (screenshots below). I've tried recording in every file type available and nothing yet works. However, I know it has recorded properly as all the videos are playable in VLDC, where the two tracks can be selected and both work individually. I've added screenshots of some of the error messages and Obs settings. Hopefully this reads clear enough. My tech knowledge is scattergun at best. Thanks and good morning, Dean

Hey guys. I'm getting very close to starting my YouTube channel, and I need some tips and advice. I have both OBS Studio and Audacity installed, but I was wondering, since OBS can already record my microphone's audio, what is the point in Audacity? Should I be recording audio with both, or just the video with OBS? What are the dis/advantages of either? Also, what are the optimal settings of both to get the highest possible quality of video and audio? I have a Blue Yeti Pro, if that matters, though I'm not using the XLR input yet (still gotta get the thing it plugs into, which is another topic entirely because I don't know a single thing about those). Also, what format should I save the video as? MP4? Mov? FLV? I don't know what most of the settings in either program mean so the more details provided the better. Explain like I'm 5 please. ^-^

I am currently using audacity with a file that has many tracks. They do not fit on my 1080p screen well. Is there a way I can make the interface smaller so that I can see more in my audacity window?

Hi All I'd like to ask if anyone knows of a way to find a repeated audio clip within a file. I have a file that has beeps in certain sections of the file and it is the only sound recorded (it was created that way), now i have found the 1st beep and I wanted to know if there is a way for me to search for a specific sound clip within any of the free audio editing software available. I am currently using audacity. Thank you for your help

I’ve decided to set up my PC for dual booting as I’ve heard linux is less of a ram hog and this can help me run programs faster than in Windows 7. I’ve decided to go with Zorin OS lite and I have a question I can’t seem to find when I tried googling; Can I install programs in the lite version? and does Linux come with basic drivers for audio and network? Edit: Here are the specs outlined; CPU: Pentium 4 @ 3.6 ghz, 1 core, 2 Logical cores Mobo: ECS P4M800PRO-M RAM: 512MB DDR2 @ 553mhz Storage: Seagate Barracuda 120GB 7200rpm

Issue: I can't get any audio recording devices to record I'm on an Acer Aspire S7-392 and have a Creative X-Fi USB sound card for when I'm at home and use the built in Realtek audio otherwise. I'm on a very fresh install of Windows 10 (2 days old) and was not experiencing this issue prior to the reinstall. I get an error message in Audacity upon clicking record "Error opening sound device..." and received a similar message in another recording program. I installed this other program to see if Audacity was the issue, but if a similar message is appearing in both, I doubt that is the case. Additionally, I get this message regardless of the input device I select (i.e. line-in, stereo mix, etc.) and regardless of which sound card (Realtek or X-Fi). I've also verified that the X-Fi card works as expected on another computer. Oddly, within the Windows sound manager, if I select "Listen to this device" on the the X-Fi's "line-in" for example, it will play through the laptop speakers no problem. There is no indication that anything is wrong within sound manager. One thing I did notice that was amiss during some troubleshooting from Audacity's support page is that within Audacity menu "Help>Diagnostics>Audio Device Info", no recording devices have any sample rates listed. The playback devices do, and I can play audio from Audacity with no issue. I would imagine this has something to do with the sample rates not showing up in the audio device info section of Audacity. They do show up and are able to be selected within Windows Sound Manager however. As far as troubleshooting, I'm tentatively operating under the assumption that the issue is with Windows since it appears to be independent of a specific sound card, input device, or recording program. I ran "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" and "sfc /scannow" but neither indicated there were any errors and the issue still persists.

So I have been trying to compile Audacity from source on my Ubuntu 17.10 machine. Error after error each I have been able to resolve except for this one, which I get when I do "make" in terminal after doing "../configure" in the "/home/<user>/audacityminsrc-2.2.1-rc3/build" directory: ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp:326:22: error: ‘id3_tag’ has not been declared void operator () (id3_tag *p) const { if (p) id3_tag_delete(p); } ^~~~~~~ ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp: In member function ‘void id3_tag_deleter::operator()(int*) const’: ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp:326:49: error: ‘id3_tag_delete’ was not declared in this scope void operator () (id3_tag *p) const { if (p) id3_tag_delete(p); } ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp:326:49: note: suggested alternative: ‘id3_tag_deleter’ void operator () (id3_tag *p) const { if (p) id3_tag_delete(p); } ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~ id3_tag_deleter ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp: At global scope: ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp:328:40: error: ‘id3_tag’ was not declared in this scope using id3_tag_holder = std::unique_ptr<id3_tag, id3_tag_deleter>; ^~~~~~~ ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp:328:40: note: suggested alternative: ‘id_t’ using id3_tag_holder = std::unique_ptr<id3_tag, id3_tag_deleter>; ^~~~~~~ id_t ../../src/export/ExportMP2.cpp:328:64: error: template argument 1 is invalid using id3_tag_holder = std::unique_ptr<id3_tag, id3_tag_deleter>; ^ Makefile:5239: recipe for target 'export/audacity-ExportMP2.o' failed make[2]: *** [export/audacity-ExportMP2.o] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/vengeance1020/audacity-minsrc-2.2.1-rc3/build/src' Makefile:1585: recipe for target 'all' failed make[1]: *** [all] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/vengeance1020/audacity-minsrc-2.2.1-rc3/build/src' Makefile:808: recipe for target 'all-recursive' failed make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 What could be preventing the compilation from completing? I know that this is mostly a hardware forum, but I thought that there might be a few experts that could give me some advice. So my dad has this YouTube channel where he uploads a lot of Kurdish culture stuff, he sort of gathers a lot of stuff from around the web and consolidates it into one channel if you will. He was working on this mp3 file, trying to "remaster" the file, and his exported file refuses to play at an audible volume on mobile devices only. Can any audio experts explain this? Much appreciated <3 Files can be found here: https://goo.gl/fYdjhx

I recently bought Spotify Premium this month on my home computer thinking the songs I downloaded would go into a folder, which I can copy onto flash drives and such. This is useful for me because some laptops that hardly have any space left on them, and would like to listen to music off of the flash drive where I don't have internet connection. When I tried to find the folder, it was just like Amazon music DRM where all the folders are a weird name, and the file type is very long and wonky. I have seen many tutorials about using the stereo mix on your audio settings to record Spotify songs and then use control+B to separate the tracks. Since Spotify technically said it's for offline listening, this shouldn't be illegal to do this, right?

Hey The other day I purchased a Blue Yeti (the standard Yeti, not the Pro or Studio) because I'd heard very good things about them and the simplicity of connecting it with a USB cable. However I've ran into numerous problems with it. First of all when I connect it to my computer my headphones cut off. I've been into the sound control panel and made sure that my playback default device is my headphones but when I select that the control panel starts freezing and not responding but when it unfreezes the headphones and speakers are gone and it's just the Yeti left. I even have to uninstall the USB from the device driver and restart my computer just to get that USB port and my headphones to work again. Secondly when I use audacity with my Yeti, I record something but when I press the stop button it freezes for about 10 seconds and if I try clicking then it causes Audacity to not respond and it could crash but if I wait it out and press play it's hit or miss as to whether I get an error message, it plays but with no audio or it plays no problems. The majority of the time it won't play whatsoever and I can not do anything with my Yeti on Audacity. When I run into these problems with the general sound or using audacity, if I have YouTube open playing something even that will crash. The audio could stop working and the video plays or the video could stop and then get an "an error has occurred" screen. The microphone is causing many problems but I want to fix them all because I know that when they're working they're some of the best microphones out there. Thanks in advice for the suggestions.

Currently to record game play I use Nvidia's ShadowPlay and it does its job at recording great quality videos and still achieve great frame rates and all but the microphone recording sounds like shit. So I disabled it and started using audacity, which is amazing. The only issue is that I can't get it to sync perfectly (Manual sync is close but not perfect) Is there anyway I can sync the captured game audio and game play with the microphone audio? BTW I use Adobe PremierePro CC to edit...

When installing my MSI drivers for the computer I built recently, it installed Realtek HD Audio for the mobo's soundcard. Whenever I plug in my microphone, an interface pops up saying that it recognized that I plugged it in. However, whenever I try to record with another program, I can't find any input option (i.e. something like "Realtek HD Input"). I normally use Audacity to record voice, but I even tried FL Studio and I couldn't find an option for a microphone input. The other day, somehow it worked, but I really have no clue what happened to make it work that time. 90% of the time that I try to use my microphone on the computer, Audacity can't find the microphone as an audio device. I know for a fact that the microphone DOES work. It exports an analog signal into a 35mm standard audio jack. Sorry for the lack of details, but I don't know where to look. Can you try to help point me in the right direction of what to do? Thanks.

Hello forum. So I finally have time to start recording gameplays (mainly for friends haha). I have Dxtory, Audacity, fraps, OBS, and I believe a program that lets me send sound source to different lines (I forgot the name currently.) EDIT: The program is called Virtual Audio Cable So I need some help with setting up. 1) Which program should I stay with recording wise, between OBS and Dxtory (I heard Fraps works well with flash games) 2) How can I prevent frame drops overall? 3) How does one record Voice, game sound, and skype separately? Lastly, any advice is definitely appreciated! My specs: i7-4770k stock speed 8gb XMS Corsair RAM DDR3 120GB Samsung Evo SSD 500GB Western Digital HDD (For games) 1TB Seagate Barracuda (The recording destination) GTX 780 Superclocked. Thanks guys!

I have a song downloaded from Youtube that we will use for our Christmas affair... The problem is, we need the voice on the song to be removed so that we can use it. The problem is a minus-one/karaoke/instrumental version of the song isn't available. So our resort is to use audio editing programs like audacity and audition to remove the vocals ourselves. Here comes the problem, after following all the tutorials I have found, Its a major no-go. the built-in Vocal Remover and the Karaoke plug-in I found from LADSPA's plug-in package doesn't do anything on audacity. on adobe audition, Remove Vocals and Center Channel Extractor is also a no-go. Wavosaur just mutes everything on the soundtrack... So, can I haz help? I need this to be done on Monday (GMT+8)...
