Hello. I currently have a build with a gtx 950 and an athlon x4 860k with a 430 watt evga power supply. However, I plan to upgrade my CPU to an fx 8370. Is an evga 80+ 430 watt psu enough for this build? Old Specs: CPU: Athlon X4 860K w/ stock cooler GPU: GTX 950 evga ssc RAM: 1x4 GB ddr3 1600mhz and 1x8 gb ddr3 1600mhz HDD: Seagate Barracude 1tb 7200rpm Disc Drive: LG Blu-Ray Drive 14x What I plan to upgrade to: CPU: FX-8370 @ 4 ghz with wraith coolerGPU: GTX 950 evga sscRAM: 1x4 GB ddr3 1600mhz and 1x8 gb ddr3 1600mhzHDD: Seagate Barracude 1tb 7200rpmDisc Drive: LG Blu-Ray Drive 14x All of this I plan to be powered by an evga 430 watt 80+ power supply. Is that psu sufficient enough for this build? Acording to Cooler Master's Power Consumption Calculator, it will use 339 watts at load and recommends 389 watts and a 460 watt cooler master psu.

hi, my friend recently built a pc, but he cant seem to get it to post. he brought it over and we've just been trying different things. we tried removing and reinstalling the cpu, removing the graphics card, disconnecting the hard drive, and we have tried using both on-board graphics and graphics from the card. we've also tried using different inputs and different monitors. the computer powers on like a gem; all the fans spin, lights work, and hard drive boots up, but nothing plugged in to the usb ports will light up (although they do give a flash when the computer first turns on). if anybody has any idea what could be wrong, please let us know. specs are: athlon x4 860k, msi a68hi ac, 8gb kingston valuram 1333mhz, evga 500w 80+ psu, msi gtx 770 4gb, 320gb seagate barracuda 7200rpm

I'm looking to upgrade my old PC that I got given for Christmas about 5 years ago. Consider it a little project. I'm just thinking I might aswell use what I got! So I currently have AMD A6-7400K, 4GB of DDR3 RAM. I know it sounds like nothing, nobody knew what they were doing lol. So now I'm a litle bit older, would it be worth getting: Athlon X4 860K/880K and a GTX 1030? Also get another 4GB RAM Hyper Fury that corresponds with the other one. Also the PSU is rubbish so would consider upgrading to a 450w evga maybe. Thanks in advance!

So I am looking to get a new CPU since I feel like its not doing as much as I'd like. It is also old. My current CPU is the AMD Athlon x4 860k (quadcore, 3700Mhz, 2 cores, 4 logical processors) I'm looking to get a new cpu that is compatible and far better. Restrictions of the cpu im looking for; 1. Must be compatible(obviously) 2. Must have a much greater processing power(I don't want to buy something that is only slightly better, it must be worth buying) 3. Limitation of $250 CAD(Most I can budget on a new cpu, so please find something less than that) My PC is custom built by a friend and I don't really know too much about the parts inside. I'm also new to windows 10 so I don't quite know how to fetch information like what mobo im using

Hey, guys! this is my first topic on this. Because I have money now, I'm planning to upgrade my PC build because I'm starting to see some lag on new games, also, this summer I would be doing a lot of video editing and photoshop with friends this summer, so I need a computer that would last me around 5/6 years. My current build is an Athlon X4 860K, GTX 750Ti, 8GB RAM with 500W PSU (its my first ever build, I was on a tight budget). I'm considering doing an intel build with an i7 6700k (not planning to overclock yet) Asus z170 a, 16gb ram along with an AIO cooler which all totals to £520 = $747 USD this is the cost I want to spend at the moment. With my build, I want the new GTX 1070 if it gets good reviews in the future. What do you guys think I should buy first? the CPU and motherboard or the Graphics card and the PSU when it comes out. If I buy the gtx 1070 first, along with a beefier PSU , then I would have to put that on my current build which would bottleneck the hell out of the GPU. If I bought the CPU and motherboard and ram, I would have to put my old GTX 750ti on that, either way, I know I'm going to get a huge bottleneck but at least they are temporary, so what do you guys think I should buy first? Or do you guys have any other suggestion? thanks guys!

How stupid would it be to pair an X4 860K with a 980 Ti?
Guest posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I know it's a stupid question, but I want to know how strong the bottleneck would be? Would it be a better idea to pair an i5 6500 with a 390X? Thanks in advance! -
I tend to play CSGO a fair bit and decided a 144hz monitor would be good. However, i realized my framerates aren't ideal. I used to get around 60-70 at worst and 150 at best in CSGO. Other games run buttery smooth at high framerates. I decided to try Overclocking my CPU. Since I dont have the best of the best coolers, I overclocked it to 4.0 Ghz and stability tested it. However, I saw little to no improvement in the game. I can only assume my 770 isnt the issue. If an upgraded CPU is absolutely needed, what would be the best path to go down? Thanks in advance

Hello everyone I'm saving up for an R9 270, and I currently have an AMD A10-6800K. I've read and seen people say that it was best to get a standalone processor for a GPU upgrade. and others say just disable the onboard graphics. I'm pretty sure the CPU portion of the A10-6800K is equivalent to the X4 760K. Should I just disable my onboard graphics on my APU? Or should I get a standalone processor along with the GPU?

Hello there. I'm looking for a CPU for my budget gaming PC. Although it would be a nice feature, this rig isn't built to be extremely upgradable in the near future; dead platforms aren't desirable, but when I eventually upgrade, I may have the choice of a new board. So far, I've come upon a number of options. 1) The Pentium G3258 With a B85/H81 board and the stock heatsink, I should be able to get this to about 4.2 GHZ and include a GTX 960 in the budget, but the purchase of an aftermarket heatsink and Z97 board for better overclocks require me to cut back significantly on the GPU, probably as far as an R9 270x. However, I did come upon this benchmark video which seriously impressed me- If this configuration doesn't bottleneck a setup on the most demanding game of the year, I doubt it's a bad choice. 2) The AMD Athlon X4 860kSince I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon, going with a more future-proof quad-core chip rather than the Pentium seemed like a good choice. However, I'll have to purchase an aftermarket heatsink anyway if I want to overclock at all, as the stock heatsink on this one is absolute garbage. However, that'll probably leave me at the R9 270x again unless I chance upon more funds soon. 3) The Core i3 4160 This chip is a cross between the aforementioned two, and has the best performance out of all three, with the same powerful, Haswell cores as the Pentium and the same amount of threads as the Athlon via hyperthreading. However, even with the stock heatsink (which this locked chip will be fine with), I'm already paying upwards of $110, which forces me to cut back to the R9 270x. In summation, my options are- Pentium G3258+stock heatsink+GTX960 Athlon X4 860k+Hyper T4+R9 270x Core i3+stock heatsink+R9 270x Which of these do you think will be- The best bang for the buck The most future-proof platform The best configuration for gaming (CPU/GPU balance) Please remember to factor in platform cost. Also, if you know of cheaper, more powerful configurations, please let me know. Thank you for your consideration. Regards, Aereldor

Hi i plan to learn to overclock and i decided to go with x4 860k I plan to use it for a while and then go with skylake i7. *no haswell as i will need to replace mobo for skylake any way and i do have fm2+ already from old pc. I will be using this chip for a while and was wondering what is it capable of. According to https://www.passmark.com/%C2'> somewhere around clock speed 4.73 GHz it become equal to i5 4590 in multi core and around 5% behind in single core performance. What is max clock i can achieve with custom water cooling loop? What is max vcore i should consider *plan to use it for next 6-12 months so some agressive oc can me made, what is max temp i sould aim for at idle and full load? If 860k vcore cant offer any high change and temps are under control with some air cooler such us 212 evo or antec freezer 30, it could save me few $ now but i do plan to invest into water cooling for i7 anyway.

Hello there. I'm looking to build a budget gaming PC, and wanted to have something that could handle general-purpose tasks like light video editing and rendering, as well as be somewhat future-proof. My options are- The AMD Athlon X4 860k, along with the Hyper T4 cooler (mounts natively on AMD brackets). The total cost of this comes to about $90. The Pentium g3258, along with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. The total cost is about $100. The Core i3-4160, which will work with the stock cooler, as it can't overclock anyway. This one costs around $100, and is a lot more feasible for my friend to carry here from overseas, as there won't be an extra cooler. Which one do you think is- The most powerful of the three CPUs The most suited CPU for modern games The most future-proof CPU of the three The best chip for tasks besides gaming, like light video editing/rendering. Also, if you know of a chip for a similar price that will blow these out of the water and into orbit, please, do not hesitate to write about it. Thanks, Aereldor.

My friend built his rig and some things just don't add up. I've never ran into a problem like this. Specs: Athlon X4 860k GTX 750 Ti 8GB DDR3 RAM 430 Watt PSU When he runs GTA 5, the game BARELY runs. The CPU is nearly maxed out and his FPS must be like 10. I have no idea what could be causing this issue and I know the game can run better because of this video: My friend is running the game at a lower resolution and lower settings and his specs are better than those in the video. I have no idea what is causing this issue and its driving me crazy. My guess could be a bad windows or driver install or maybe a bad GTA 5 install. Any help is appreciated. EDIT: Also when he first started the game it said his CPU did not meet the minimum requirements which is BS

Athlon x4 860K Launching next week Roy@AMD has revealed that AMD's upcoming Quad core Steamroller CPU (Not APU), the Athlon x4 860K, will be available worldwide from next week. Source :http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/cpu_mainboard/athlon_x4_860k_launching_next_week/1 Amd is trying to fight in the lower end market against the pentium anniversary edition, maybe the the two additional cores over the pentium will make it better but it has almost double the TDP 95 watts vs 53 watts, if you overclock it will get really hot. Still if they manage to price it right it could be a good competitor.
