I recently broke my ATH-M40x (at the hinge) and was looking for a replacement i was wondering if the AKG K72 was a good replacement. (if there are better headphones, do tell) PS. All my headphones break around a year after i get them.
-
So, the piece on the ear-cup hinge that stops rotation beyond a certain point on my ATH-M50x has broken. The headphones are way out of warranty. Are the any recommendations as to where to send the headphones for repair? Thanks, in advance

So i have been looking to get headphones and I found a pair I like. I mainly want it for watching videos or listening to music on my ipad Air 2 or my Samsung galaxy s8, but I also might use them on my computer as well sometimes. I have 1 problem and that is that im not sure if the headphones will recieve enough power to run well on my phone. I have read some people complaining how it sounds kind of quiet on their phone but they seem to have older models. The impedance is 38 which is cutting it close since i have heard for phone use you typically want around 25 and for nonphone use you want 50+. The head phones are call ATH-WS1100iS. Im not sure if i should settle on these or if I will have to keep looking. Any help will be much appreciated. Here is a link to the headphones- https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-WS1100iS-Over-Ear-Headphones-Microphone/dp/B018UB3HU0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529015052&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=ath+ws1100is

Hi I have an aging pair of hd280pro that I really like how they sound but now I want to buy a new pair and I'm open to suggestions The things I don't like its cable failed on me relatively soon and I had to get a repair, it clamps your head like if its live depended on it! and some people tells me they have poor sound stage? Some friends have told me to check the m40x but I haven't get the chance to listen to them, same thing with the edifier 850, any idea? my budget is 100 or less Please I know many of you love the p9500 but I'm not really in to that, neither the hd519 this one maybe not that bad but ultimately not, besides I have listened to the m40, m50x, the mdr7506, mdr v55, m20/x, hd201, hd200, hd439, although I don't find this last group as annoying as the first one hahaha I kind of like my 280 more so, having all those variables in mind what would you recommend me? in addition to that I have listened to other cans but either don't remember as well to make a comparison or they sounded meh or trash to me... aka: cal, superlux etc.

I've been using a in ear headphones Philips SHE2000, but recently I've been using more public transports and I cant really ear my music at all because of all that noise arround me. So I was thinking on buying a closed ear headphones. Went to do a little research and found two headphones that looked nice for my needs(even tho I don't relly known if they're the greastest), Ath m40x that I've found at 80€ and sennheiser hd 280 pro at 100€. I can't really test any of them and the more I look at them the more I feel uncomfortable buying them, just because of its price. Also at home I have a wireless stereo ps3 headset that I bought for +-100€, so if I really want to buy a new one, I don't want ot to be worse than the one that i already have at home. What should I do? Thanks in advance..

Looking for a wireless replacement for my M50x. I've noticed the Steelseries 840 but I'm weary of sound quality. How are bt headphones for latency? These headphones would mainly be used on my desktop where I game a lot so latency would be important (Steelseries use some proprietary thing which may/may not be good). Anyone got any recommendations for a m50x replacement (so similar sound sig) but wireless and low latency? I'm in the UK and ideally working with a budget around £200, but can go up to £250. Suggestions around £300 are fine since I may be able to get them on sale. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to my experience with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, a pair of headphones which I've longed after for over four years, and I've finally been able to afford them after months of working at my new job. I bought my white ATH-M50x for £113 from Amazon UK, and after using them for a bit, that is about as much as I'd pay for them at retail price. Disclaimer before I pitch in my two cents, yes I know there were other options out there that are far superior in terms of sound and build quality, but my decision to buy these particular headphones boiled down to these things, in no particular order: Aesthetics - the white aesthetic of the headphones are beautiful Portability/Flexibility - the fully-rotatable earcups that fold up to boot, as well as the detachable cables My desire for new headphones Admittedly, the sheer popularity of these headphones With that out of way, I'll pitch in my perspective, as a non-audiophile, on the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. Firstly I'll talk about the design and build of the ATH-M50x. When I first got them, I was struck at how large they were since I had never seen a pair of ATH-M50x in the flesh before buying them, even the box it came in was much larger than I imagined. When I first took them out of the box, I felt the nice materials that Audio-Technica had used, and was also greeted to the three detachable cables which are a neat touch for the portability of these headphones. The detachable cable was one of the most compelling features of the M50x in my mind, and it certainly paid off and now I use the coiled cable for desktop use and the shorter two for other uses such as using the headphones with my phone. Additionally, the fully-foldable earcups were one of the top three features that I was anticipating for these headphones, and they didn't disappoint. The foldable earcups make for portability that I've never experienced before, they're so compact and fit into the included pouch nicely. The design of the headphones are amazingly-beautiful too, it's fully white with silver accents, it looks super classy. The headphones themselves are larger than I expected and thus look a slightly large on my head as well as feeling heavier too, but the design is definitely not something I'm ashamed of. The headphones have quite a modern design to them, althought the headband and the hinges look quite dated to me, which actually contributes nicely towards the timeless design of the M50x. Onto the main reason why I bought these, the sound quality. It's a contradictory statement because again, I had never touched or seen these headphones with my own eyes before I bought these, but coming from standard consumer-grade headphones such as the Status Audio HD One, Sony MDR-ZX310, and some earphones such as the Sennheiser MX365, Sennheiser MX375, and the Samsung AKG earphones, I had no doubt that the M50x would tower over them all. I'm not the best at explaining things, so I'm going to put some songs and I'll talk about my experience with the songs while wearing these headphones. A bit of background on the type of music I listen to: Korean Pop Bubblegum - Twice, Apink, Red Velvet etc Dancehall - KARD, BTS, (G)-I-DLE, Got7, Stray Kids, Day6 Ballad - BTOB, Cheeze, EXID, Taeyeon I'm not too great at explaining specific terms, so I'm going to try my best at explaining parts of songs using my own terminology. I'll be listening to the YouTube music video versions of these songs, so the timestamps displayed are for those. Song 1 (Bubblegum Pop) - Apink - Eung Eung 0:12 - The intro synth jumps up and down and is so pronounced and clear, then slowly gets accompanied by drums and a light lullaby of a female vocal which is super soothing to hear, everything is balanced and everything has its place on the sound stage. 0:45 - The female vocals accompanied by what I can tell is a light synth and a faster backing synth form harmony nicely to keep the pace of the song flowing as well as keep the female vocals in the spotlight, I can hear the faster background synth nice and clearly which is amazing. 0:59 - The background chip-tune is high and pronounced which gives so much body to the verse, especially since the vocalists at this section is so crisp and clear. 1:12 - I love that it all comes together nicely, with the chip-tune accompaniedby the intro synth and again the beautifuly-pronounced female vocals. I could hear every bit of it including the light bass reverb, the vocals again stand out the most here. 2:44 - I really love how much the female vocals shine in this section, I can hear every chord and it's entrancing how soothing they sound, especially since they are accompanied by a light chip-tune. 3:12 - This part is pretty much an enhanced intro and I love every bit about it. The synth is so sharp, the drum hit is so much more pronounced, and the soft hum by the female vocalist is a beautiful set. Song 2 (Dancehall/EDM) - Stray Kids - District 9 0:20 - The hard-hitting synth and bass combo is a blast of metal to my ears, quite literally, because it sounds so metallic and rough, accompany that with the harsh raspy voice of the vocalist and it's quite a badass combination that is so energetic 0:42 - The second the vocalist just tears up the scene and the bass and drums just explode, it is an amazing listening experience, the drum hit is so pronounced, the vocalist is so clear, and the guitar is so rough and gritty, it makes for an energetic and soulful chorus 1:04 - Hearing the vocalist say "District 9" followed by a piercing synth, heavy bass, and light synth in the back is again such an energetic vibe. 2:32 - Hearing this vocalist's exceptionally low, growly, and raspy voice accompanied by the synth, guitar, and light clapping is such a badass moment to hear, followed by a build-up to the chorus that just finishes on an epic note. Song 3 (Pop Rock) - Day6 - Shoot Me 0:06 - The melodic vocal flow combined with the drums and the synthiser makes for an ominously-low sound which is excellent given the vibe of the song. 0:34 - I absolutely love the drums replicating the gunshot, it stings my ears every time and it's epic, especially since it's followed by a series of guitars, synths, and light bass which makes for an awesome head-banging rock metal song chrous. 1:14 - The raspy dirty guitar riff is so rough and gritty accompanied by the vocal's indeed rough and gritty vocal tone, with the symbals in the off-beat. 1:15 - The harmony of the vocalist's mid notes with the symbal hits and the light guitar run is so light and crisp and makes for an amazing low note. Okay so that ended up being more of what I appreciate from K-pop music, but the TL:DR I suppose is that, I can hear everything in such clarity and sound signature than I used to be able to. The sound is impeccable for the type of music I listen to, where female vocals generally dominate the scene, or else it's the backing instrumentation that steals the spotlight. The instruments are so pronounced and the vocals are so clear, it's great. I want to touch once again on the build and design, these are super portable headphones, and it has an amazing design to boot. These are super stylish headphones especially in white, at least to me. I hope you can appreciate that I am by no means an audiophile or even anything close to a music producer/analyst, as you could tell from my terminology in explaining parts of songs. I'm simply a music lover, I take what I want that provides me with the best listening experience I can get for my type of music whilst also having headphones that look classy and premium, and the ATH-M50x ticks all of those boxes.

I decided my ATH M50s are just too uncomfortable so I looked around and got the idea to stack some more comfortable ear pads on top of the existing ones from some comment in a forum post somewhere Buuut I can't find that post again and can't remember what they recommended I use to attach them I got the earpads and it works for the most part but I can't figure out what I should fasten it with (im just holding them in place with the headphones at the moment) Any suggestions?

Looking at buying a new pair of headphones (upgrade from Turtle Beach X12's i've been using for years). (*I can honestly say I don't think I've ever listened to music on a decent/expensive pair of headphones.) How does the ATH m50x compare to the DT770 sound quality wise? The DT770 has a low 5Hz frequency response compared to the 15Hz of the m50x's, not really sure how important this is for sub/bass. Also been looking at the HD598's - heard good things about them but are they worth the 30% additional cost over the DT770 and M50x? Thanks.

If you recommand bose, would you recommend 20 or 25? Thanks

Hello everyone. After looking for and researching the best closed-back headphones at my mid-range price point ($100 - $200) I have come down to two options. The AKG K553 Pro or the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. I am aware that open-back headphones have a much nicer soundstage that closed-back, but the sound leakage from open back headphones are a deal breaker. I hear that the AKG K553 Pros have a larger soundstage than most closed back headphones, which sounds like a major benefit compared to the M50x's "decent soundstage." I wanted to see everyone's opinion on the two headphones before I make a decision. Thanks for your help! Here are the two headphones being compared: AKG K553 Pro https://www.massdrop.com/buy/akg-k553-pro-studio-headphone?guest_browsing=1 ATH-M50x http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR86

So I just picked up a pair of ATH-m50s and in the very near future i'd like to pick up an amp and a dac that fit the cost of the headphones themselves. I've looked into it and this is not a world i'm horribly familiar with so I'm turning to the ol' Audio forum. TL;DR - What is a DAC/AMP combo that makes sense from a quality and cost standpoint to be paired with ATH-m50s
-
Okay so I just bought my first pair of decent headphones, the ATH-M50x. On the website it says the impedance is 38 ohms, can a phone power that? Or do I need an amp to get better sound? This question might not make any sense because, like I said, i'm a new to this. Thanks

So what do you think? Getting the HyperX Cloud will cost me about $130-140 aud (australian dollars) The Audio Technica m50x (the newer improved model) will cost me about $200 for it plus including the modmic 4.0. (oops spelling mistake) Apart from the price, m50x is everything I want. It's portable, looks nice and also the modmic 4.0 sounds better than the HyperX Cloud. I'm going to be using this for gaming, listening to music, youtube, tv shows and movies. Thanks in advance.

I got a pair of Razer Kraken’s and have decided that I really should upgrade. After much shopping around, reading threads on LTT and other forums and Googling I have narrowed my choice down to two options: Audio Technica ATH-M40X or ATH-M50(X). I listen to a variety of music and want some good all round headphones that have good build quality, are comfortable, produce good sound across all ranges and have a good base - tight and punchy but not at all overbearing. My budget is £100 ($150) TOPS but I’d rather spend a lot less than that. Unfortunately I cannot try them out before buying so any info about sound signature or anything else would be very much appreciated. Is it worth it to get the M50(X) over the M40X? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Recently i have purchased the ATH - M50x when they were on sale, and i like them alot. I get the feeling that im not utilizing their full potential. What would be an appropriate amp/dac for under 200 to properly satisfy these cans?

Are the ATH-M40X headphones a good choice when compared to the somewhat more expensive ATH-M50x? Also after watching Logan's video on gaming audio I wonder if these will perform well for gaming, if the video was in fact correct about gaming audio. I know the ATH-M50x are an excellent pair of headphones but I feel like it's a little too expensive. Does somebody know more about the m40x's?
-
So Here is my review on the Audtio Technica ATH-M50x So the first thing you might notice is that these have no cable, the original m50's had a fixed cable which could be bought in a coiled or a straight version. The new "x" version comes with 3 detachable cables, one is coiled, one is a short straight one (about the length of apple earbud cables) and finally a long straight one about 3 meters long. It is good enough to put into you soundcard at the back of your pc and give you plenty of room to move. The detachable cabe is actually great. I leave one in my computer, one in my guitar amp (it comes with the 1/4" adapter, though they are standard 3.5mm), and i leave my short one with my headphones. These headphones work fine on mobile and my old ipod shuffle has enough juice to make them decent (not uncomfortable, but loud enough that it sounds great). The earcups are the main complaint of the headphones. The clamping pressure is kind of tight, and these things are rock hard. The deathadder 2013 doesn't compress it at all, and it springs back immediately. If you are planning on buying these, replacement earcups are a must. I believe that anything that works on the original m50 would work on these, This is what the connection to the headset looks like . It is fairly strong and I can attach it and deatach them without takign them off. This makes them a lot easier to fit in a backpack. I wouldn't recommend using the bag it comes with because it probably only protects the headphones from a strong breeze. The headphones are built great, but the bag is made from the same crappy materials used on the earcups. After taking off the earcups, you see the driver cover. If you think it looks like it protrudes out too much, you would be right. The cups are too thin to take your ears away from it, so if you have normal ears they can be uncomfortable. If you have monkey ears it is probably worse. I have heard buying aftermarket earcups fixes this problem for most people. The inside of the headphones look pretty normal like most headphones. The foam they used is very hard, and I don't know if that is a good thing. The screwdriver is to show just how hard the foam is. I am putting a large amount of force on that, and it seemed like it would break if I put any more force on it. I am not going to comment on the sound. Everyone has heard of the sound quality of the m50's and these are just more of the same. If you are looking for gaming headphones these are not them. Buy something with a mic on it because the sound quality isn't that much better than some good gaming headphones. I have the PC350, and though the warranty sucks on them, they are great as gaming headphones. here is the link to the gallery of all of these images plus a bonus one. http://imgur.com/a/ZZz1r
