I decided on cleaning my motherboard's back because I saw fingerprints and being the paranoid I am, I decided to clean it with a cotton swab and 99% isopropyl alcohol. It left some streaks, so I am kind of worried. I only cleaned the the fingerprints, and from what I was able to see, the motherboard has some oil spread through the back, which I suppose that was the reason why the alcohol left the streaks. Leaving the streaks, can it cause problems down the line? Here are some picture I took: P.S: Apart from the possibility of causing harm by having cleaned the motherboard with isopropyl alcohol and having left streaks, can cotton swab I used cause problems if I used them for cleaning the back of the mobo?

Idea: Liquid cooling with 90% alcohol. Reasons: Depending on what kind of alcohol there is (the amount I mean) I can cool my system without having to worry about any crap growing in the loop as well as to go to very cold temperatures without freezing. In otherwords, I want to mount the cooling radiator outside of my winter home and not have to worry about those two things. I could go with a DIY Freon cooling system but do you know how much power that it will be pulling from the wall? A lot! If there any comments, thoughts and ideas please tell me. I'm willing to hear what you guys got.

Wonder if it would be possible to build a computer that also brewed alcohol/beer at the end of it...

Hi all, First time builder here. Trying to get a rig set up before flight sim 2020 is released. I managed to get some thermal paste on the cpu pins. Basically I had the right half build when I realised I needed a different motherboard. I took off the cpu cooler but it pulled the processor clean out with it. Might have had a little too much paste applied. Anyways, I cleaned the pins with with some 70 pc alcohol but now I notice that the area I wet with alcohol is darker than the area I didn’t touch. It’s been drying over a day so I believe it’s dry, but should I be concerned about the different colour? I’ll attach a pic for your reference basically top left corner is original colour. The rest is slightly darker. thanks for helping a total noob

Whiskey, whiskey, where do we begin? I made this thread as I am VERY enthusiastic about Whiskey. I guess this is where I can review my whiskey experiences, and you might be able to pick something up for yourself that you've never tried before. GRANTED YOU'RE OVER THE AGE OF 18/21 (depends on where you live). A random fact about whisk(e)y: Some Whisk(e)ys have an 'e', and some don't. This is due to the translation of Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Scottish Whiskys have no 'e', whereas Irish Whiskey's do - the Irish share this same trait with American Whiskeys. Glenfiddich 12: Smell When smelling Glenfiddich 12, I smell sweetness, almost caramel/butterscotch notes that jump out. And also a little bit of orange in the back. Taste Just as I smelled earlier, a very sweet tasting Whisky, hints of butterscotch and caramel, however I can't seem to taste the hint of orange that I smelled earlier. This Whisky is a very smooth Whisky with a surprisingly long after taste and is not harsh at all. Recommendations Best to drink it neat or with a bit of distilled water. Lagavulin 16: Smell From the nose, this is a very smokey whisky with dark notes. Taste This Whisky is definitely not for beginners. The peat creates a very smokey palette. You get this very dark and smokey taste but just when you're about to swallow the whisky it turns in to a very refreshing and lasting finish. Recommendations Only drink this neat. Hence why this whisky is not for beginners. It has a very complicated palette that rewards the drinker with every sip. It has that very distinct Islay feel and taste to it. Johnnie Walker Green Label: Foreword: This Whisky has been blended with a lot of different single malts from the highlands, lowlands and even Islay malts. They call it a blended malt scotch whisky. Smell Surprisingly, I couldn't get too much from the smell. It was very complicated to put my finger on certain ingredients used to create it. I did smell a distinctive wood smell, probably from the barrel - oak perhaps. Taste This is where it gets interesting. After every sip there was a different flavour that kicked in. I paired this Whisky with a nice steak and after every sip it seemed like there was something new brought to the palette. My first sip introduced a VERY heavy chocolate hint, and it was very distinctive. So much so that I knew it was dark chocolate. My second sip introduced some slight citrus flavours like orange and a hint of lemon. And it kept alternating between the two flavours. Recommendation A very strange but light Whisky, I would definitely recommend to get a small necked glass, smell the whisky, and then smell it again with a drop of distilled water to open up the oils. For beginners I recommend it with 1 ice cube. for intermediate this is a very smooth whisky to drink neat. **If you have any reviews you'd like to add, please do. I love learning about new Whisk(e)ys!**

I like Triple Sec and J2O (British and Irish fruit juice) or Mimosa. As a Brit, cider is also pretty good. What's your choice D R A N K?

Hello, I know that the best alcohol to clear things such as thermal paste is rubbing alcohol or also "Isopropyl alcohol". The strongest isopropyl is 99% if im right, but this is impossible to buy here. I can use 70% but can i use Ethyl alcohol? Such as 60-70 % or just to buy isopropyl.

So, we have a thread for car discussion, LGBT, music, what random stuff we bought, music we're listing to etc here in Off Topic. So I figured why not one for alcohol & those who appreciate a nice beer, whether that is craft, mainstream or you make your own (like myself) or maybe you prefer bourbon or whisk(e)y or a nice refreshing white wine or warming red, or if you're into home-brewing/distilling/wine making feel free to discuss all that here. So i'll get it started, I work with alcohol on a daily basis as it is part of my job, as a hobby I brew beer & am active with a craft beer group on Facebook, I don't drink excessively (any more), I mostly enjoy IPA's (India Pale Ale) & rum. I love the fact where I live (Gold Coast, Australia) we have some pretty good craft beer, in fact two of our local beers just took out #1 & #2 in the Hottest 100 Australian craft beers over the weekend, which is cool. Currently i'm drinking a Czech Pilsner, I popped into one the local liquor stores today saw it and thought "I haven't had a Pils in a while" so decided to give that a go, along with some Ballast Point Grunion Pale Ale & a 6 pack of Brooklyn Lager cause it was on a special & dad wanted something & it comes recommended from mates who use it in a marinade at their bar for their slow cooked lamb shoulder. I know a lot of the audience here are probably under the legal drinking age of their country/territory of residence, but not all of us are, I am also aware some people are not a fan of alcohol & that's cool, but some of us are. So let's get to it & discuss what we like & whatever! Also here's a shot of the Pils I was drinking whilst typing this up, now i've moved on to the Ballast Point.

Hi, I just ordered my CPU Cooler and a tube of arctic silver 5 paste with it, however my cpu already has the stock paste on it. I know that inus uses 99% but I don't have that in my household. I have Vodka & Nail Polish remover, as well as some other cleaning products. What can I use instead of 99%? Thanks!

Powdered alcohol recently got federal approval in the US. The technology behind making it happen is interesting... but how do you guys feel about this product, and the consequences of what people might do while under the effects of it? http://www.myfoxal.com/story/28387458/powdered-alcohol-gets-federal-agencys-approval http://www.palcohol.com/

Hello, I am thinking of getting a new cpu cooler for my rig but I was wondering how much will my temps get affected if I just try and clean off the thermal paste as best as I can without rubbing alcohol?

After all the waiting you've all had to endure, I am finally pleased to announce that Operation Royal Salute is now finished and active. We ran into an insane amount of delays which kept pushing back the dates over and over: Carpenter was not available for the job immediately and the second wanted much more than the quoted price; One key component of the gift had to be flown in from the other side of the country; Fittings were not available locally; And the print shop's large printer was being repaired for over 2 weeks. But the community stuck behind us and we finished with what's appearing to be amazing results. The package will be arriving soon so we will have 2 full weeks to have it aired on Wingman. I think they'll choose it to be. Thank you UOLTT fleet. And above all else we want to express an extra bit gratitude to the following members. Though this is a fleet gift, this would never had been possible without you. @ixi_your_face @Hazy125 @foxhound590 @looney @Str_Mape @OMEGA SUPREME @Wauthar @DaRk0 @b45op @CatCloud @Jobobee @Thunderjolt @XiaoPigs Mega thanks to Josh Bill for the cedar box and Mark over at CopyWright in Tacoma, WA for the poster and label prints. Additional mega thanks goes to: @Artofinca for creating and providing both the LTT poster and the container label. These are absolutely amazing. @iLash for creating the UOLTT logo which we all know and love. @Nit3Rid3R, @LukaP and @Jobobee for all the support through the creation. So please enjoy the following build log. And thank you again. Operation Royal Salute. Notes: -EDIT- 23/05/14 at 2034: Adding the images and logs below in following posts. -EDIT- 23/05/14 at 2111: Added photos of the main contents to the gift. -EDIT- 23/05/14 at 2236: Added photos of weathering, fittings, staining, sealing and all foam work. -EDIT- 23/05/14 at 2245: Added photos of the finished product and the packaging methods. Now, noone bite my head off for the shipping time. The expected delivery date is 29/05/14 or 30/05/14. The shipping price to get it there by Tuesday was $320. The shipping price to get it there by Wednesday was $265 The shipping price to get it there by Thursday was $175 And the shipping price to get it there by Thursday or Friday was $75.27 Since I was covering the additional charges that went over the budget, and believe me we went over, I had to go with $75.27 to get it shipped out tonight since I didn't want to wait to have a fundraiser since there's no way it was gonna be featured on next episode anyways. Memorial Day weekend. But... It's on it's way and it'll have a full 2 weeks and 2 episodes to be featured on Wingman's. So mission complete, fam. And good luck getting through all the thumbnails. -Edit- 30/05/14 at 2350

Hello! I'll be replacing the TIM that came preapplied to the stock coolers on my 2 PCs with some Noctua NT-H1. I was browsing through some forums and some recommended different liquids to clean the CPU and heatsink (alcohol, acetone,...). Does it matter how watered down the isopropyl is? Or can lower saturated solutions even damage the CPU/heatsink? Or should I order some ArctiClean instead? What do you guys use? Thanks in advance!
