After some drama I had with my OS (Win10) earlier, I resorted to a clean reinstall, though I've kept most of my files. But now a new problem has emerged... Within specific areas on my PC (mainly on other internal hard drives), every time I wish to Move / Rename / Delete any file or folder, I am greeted with a message saying "You need to provide administrator permission to perform this action". Pressing continue reveals an access denied message, clarifying that it requires permission from what seems to be either an old local user account that no longer exists (ALBA\MohawkADE) or an unknown account (S-1-5-21-4009105186-2181681972-3483528481-1001). My current user account is tied with my Microsoft account and is not the same name as the old account. Additionally, any new file deposited into these folders will also yield the same result. Here's a list of things attempted thus far: Changed properties/security settings to add Full control to my current user account; Windows still demands permission from old account In safe mode, copied all files into a new folder and deleted the old files; Windows still demands permission Created local account with same name as old account; Windows still demands permission Enabled Administrator account to manipulate files; Windows still demands permission Copied all contents to another hard drive, formatted drive with problem files and copied files back into place; problem persists although the copied problem files on the other hard drive can be moved/renamed/deleted. Taken ownership of files using advanced security settings, Windows still demands permission While I am able to manipulate any of my files as I please in Safe Mode, I REALLY don't want to reboot into Safe Mode every time I need to move, rename or delete a folder. Do you guys have any remedies?

I made a new computer using previous storage drives. On my old system, I modified a hard drive's permissions so that only my account could use it. I forgot to reset the permissions so I could see it in my new system. OS: W10 ("upgrade" from W7) MoBo: Gigabyte Aorus G5 Hard Drive (in question): Seagate Barracuda I'm looking to reset the permissions now so I can access the data. I've tried using icacls and the security tab, but it confused the heck outta me. I have most of it on Failsafe, but there are some I want from Local E. Any help would be appreciated.

So, the issue seems to have resolved itself, but I just wanted to post about it in case others run into the same problem. When I initially attempted to login, it rejected my password. It's entirely possible I was typing in the wrong one, but that's rather moot now. After two or three attempts, I finally decided to reset my password. I clicked on 'Forgot my password' and put in my e-mail address. And waited....and waited.....and waited....and waited.... I scrolled down to the bottom and clicked "Contact us", but was informed that it was not available to guests, and I had to sign in (do you see the irony there?). I finally got tired of waiting and tried a couple other passwords. Eventually, my account got locked out for 10 minutes. That e-mail notification came through immediately. I clicked on the 'reset password' link in that e-mail, but it took me another page that I was denied access to (because, yet again, I wasn't signed in). I once again went through the 'Forgot my password' option and finally got the password reset link. After all that, I was finally able to reset my password and get on here to post.

hey guys a non tech dude here asking for advice, i recently just built my first pc out of used components, i have an old hard drive with windows 7 installed. powering it on for the 1st time, cant access w7 getting startup repair errors. got a usb drive w10, installed it, no key ofc, now i cant get to w10, i can access the cmd prompt, tried the videos on youtube about bootrec/fixboot but im getting acces is denied error, tried the rename volume fix did not work for me. has anyone encountered this and can you gimme some direction. i dont have another pc, i do have a laptop to work with, i have ubuntu on another usb and windows 8 already downloaded.

Last week I swapped out my main boot drive to test out my secondary computer's M.2 SSD then I swapped it back to my main boot SSD. At first some subdirectories on my WD 2tb D drive started to pop up an access denied error. I was busy at the time so I couldn't pay much attention to it but then the error started appearing when trying to access the drive itself. I've been trying for many days to fix the problem by the permissions and security settings of the files. I had to change ownership back to administrators and the system because it started displaying no ownership, not even the system. At first it started showing errors saying that some files like the recycling bin or the WindowsApps folder "failed to enumerate objects in the container." By now the icon of the drive changed to just say NTFS instead of showing the amount of used space on it. I resetted the recycling bins through cmd and was able to take ownership of the drive but I could still not access it so I tried checking the "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permission entries from this object" box and it tried changing the permissions of the files on the drive but the "failed to enumerate objects in the container" error showed for almost every subfolder of the drive. I've been through many hard drive failures and have experience the lost of terabytes of data so I'm familiar with corruption but this drive is relatively new and is used for recording storage and games. There are a lot of files of important footage all in one folder that I would like to save, everything else is just games or I have a backup of. I just wanted to know if there's no hope before I try to format the drive. Thanks for reading this long if there's any questions please ask.

I despise windows 10 for its shitty implementation of the file ownership system. i have change all the owner ship files to my user account but when ever i try and changing something like move a file into said folder it moves some off the folders and then says you need permission from administrator to do this action so i click okay and then it says you require permission from my own user account. help before a break my pc's hard drives

Just go a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD for my PC. Installed new Win 10 from Windows disk and everything is running great. At first, I had access but I went on a trip for a month and came back to it not working. My old hard drive that was running Win 10 for 2 months is now not allowing me access to the data on the drive. Every attempt I have made to give myself permission to the drive is unsuccessful. Please help with any ideas.

Hey guys, So I have an old Lenovo laptop (Win7 32-bit) running 24/7 as a print server and spare computer. Whenever I try to print from my Win8.1 desktop, I get an "Access Denied" error message. This problem occurs on and off. I initially had the same problem when I tried to add the printer. I let it be for a couple of days and then everything started working like it normally would, allowing me to add the printer and print. Strangely enough, I have a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite and it prints on the printer flawlessly all the time. The printer is a HP LaserJet 1320 if that matters. All computers are connected over Wifi. I've tried re-installing the printer today and it still gives me the access denied error. I attached the error message I get when I click on the printer in control panel > devices and printers. Any ideas? It's getting very annoying to have to pull out my laptop everytime I need to print something. Thanks in advance.

So, I seem to have an aura for making electonic devices not work.. Software and hardware: empty intel 520 120 GB SSD laptops original Toshiba 500 GB HDD with windows 7. used space is about 80 GB the desktop computer runs windows 8 Enterprise. the task to do: I want to clone a 2,5" Toshiba 500 GB HDD from Acer laptop to a new 120 GB 520 series SSD. the means: either by 1) USB to SATA connector (not provided), or by 2) installing both in a desktop, booting from neither, and cloning in that way. the issues: method 1) Bought USB HDD enclosure thingy (http://dx.com/p/2-5-sata-usb-2-0-hdd-enclosure-with-leather-pouch-silver-51119). This does not recognise the SSD as an intel SSD, and it shows 2 external drives connected, the "System Reserved" and ordinary. I read that the intel SSD need the correct model strings for the operating system (http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-034081.htm), but not WHAT the correct model strings are.. Question to method 1. Would a USB to SATA connector work, or will it provide the same issue? the issues: method 2). Everything seems perfect with this method, althought the user manual seem to state that I have to boot from the HDD I am cloning, as it needs to restart the computer or something. The user manual does not say anything about that you have to boot from the HDD you are cloning, but mentions something about reboot (http://dx.com/p/2-5-sata-usb-2-0-hdd-enclosure-with-leather-pouch-silver-51119). The cloning process works fine until some files, where the error message "Access denied, permission not granted to write" comes up. I tried "take ownership" and also properties-security- then changing all permission to have full controll. BOTH take ownership and permission was denied. The files size missing is about 50 MB. When installing the SSD in the laptop, the errormessage "unable to boot, missing bootmgr" (if my memory is correct) comes up. Question to method 2. How to get the permissions? I don't want to boot from laptop HDD in the desktop, as the drivers for MOBO, GPU etc would have to be installed and stuff. Question 3: could I make a bootable recovery USB, then cleaninstll windows on the SSD, then use the recovery USB to get all preinstalled drivers and stuff? I have had bad luck identifying all drivers for GPU and keyboard after doing a clean install, so I don't want to do that again. I am grateful for any repsonse to this, and love this community even more! go LTT/LMG :D

This is one thing I hate about Windows 7 and on, even though you are admin, some things are still locked off and its so frustrating. I'm using Windows 8.1 and am admin, I am trying to add a shortcut to the Startup folder so the program will run on startup. I have done it before on this very installation of Windows but now its saying "Access Denied". I'm administrator ffs... Why does windows do this with simple folders like this and is there a way to gain FULL assess?
