Hey everyone! It's me again facing this odd error 43 on my Asus K555L with Nvidia GeForce 940M graphics. Scenario 1: Whenever I restart the laptop after a fresh install of Windows 10, everything works fine with the iGPU. But when the automatic updates kick in, it downloads the Nvidia drivers for the 940M and when it is installed, the computer restarts and shows nothing (same thing happened after manually installing the latest Nvidia Drivers). The screen is lit up but it's just a black screen. I repeated the process several times and still goes displays a back lit black screen. I then proceeded with installing Linux distros but the same thing happened, a black screen with its backlight on. After a few days of testing with software, I proceeded on doing something Louis Rossman would smack me in the head for. Yes! I tried heating the GPU and its memory. Scenario 2: So I've heated the the GPU and its memory. I tried a fresh install of Windows 10 and all went fine. Then I installed the latest Nvidia drivers. Please check the images I've attached. This didn't happen previously. The laptop is running on iGPU while the Nvidia drivers were installed. In Scenario 1 this would only be a back lit black screen. But to my surprise the OS has disabled the 940M GPU due to Error Code 43 and continues to be usable. My Thoughts Has anyone experienced this before? Has anyone ever tried to fix this successfully with or without the magical power of a heat gun? Please let me know how I could remedy this (aside from just using the iGPU). I've tried installing and reinstalling drivers & various operating systems. DDU has always been there during Safe Mode. Any help provided is highly appreciated.

I'm looking for laptops under or at $800 with a dGPU for schoolwork and light gaming. My current picks are an Acer unit with a 940m at $570 and an MSI unit with an MX150 for $800. Ignoring all other factors, is the performance difference of an MX150 worth the $230 price hike?

I don't specifically remember when it started, I just know that it been happening for quite a while. My "Aspire E5-574G" Laptop hasn't been utilizing the GPU to its full potential, so in games, I usually see around 25-35 fps on lower settings than when I used to have the settings higher and I would get around 40-60 fps. Its performance usually sticks around the 60-75% range, according to task manager, and it's not thermal throttling in the slightest. I've gone through a lot of setting with Nvidia control panel and moreso with windows settings. and everything I could see had maxed the GPU in applications that used it and used integrated for things like chrome. I ran some of the usual benchmarks and those instantly and constantly had the GPU maxed. All the software is up to date, all power savings off, all other applications closed, even though the CPU rarely bottlenecks in most games I play. Thanks in advance! My friends bought a laptop with a 940m inside it for light gaming. But upon doing so he noticed that the fps wasnt anywhere it should be. So hes handed the laptop to me for a few days to see what i can do. The issue is with the laptop is that the 940m wont show up in device manager. Windows doesn't seem to be seeing it as a device. I have done a fresh install of windows and nothing has seemed to change. The model of the laptop is the i5 version of the asus x555lb. Also when i tried to install the driver this is what i was greeted with https://ibb.co/iHRNLz .Hoping someone will have an idea on what to do as for some reason i cant get through to asus support.

Hello everybody. I want to buy a laptop in summer, but I can't decide, what graphics card should I use. I have in mind of a 920M 2GB or 940M 2GB. But I have a question - Is it worth, to pick up a 940M for 30 euros more than a 920M? Is it worth the price? Thanks for advice.

Update 10/20/15 New info from Hothardware shows that the custom gpu has 32 texture mapping units and 16 render output units, up from the 24 and 8 on the 940m respectively. Information from this post on reddit by user BullOak. The OP got his hands on a dGPU Surface Book at a microsoft store. Using Nvidia control panel to see the specs he obtained this: Operating System: Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit DirectX version: 12.0 GPU processor: GeForce GPU Driver version: 354.15 Direct3D API version: 12 Direct3D feature level: 11_0 CUDA Cores: 384 Core clock: 954 MHz Memory data rate: 5010 MHz Memory interface: 64-bit Memory bandwidth: 40.08 GB/s Total available graphics memory: 5081 MB Dedicated video memory: 1024 MB GDDR5 System video memory: 0 MB Shared system memory: 4057 MB Video BIOS version: 82.08.4D.00.01 IRQ: Not used Bus: PCI Express x4 Gen3 Device Id: 10DE 134B 00081414 Part Number: 2702 0001 From this we can see that the GPU is effectively a Maxwell 940m with half the normal amount of memory (1GB vs 2GB) but more than twice the bandwidth (5010mhz vs 2000mhz). Performance should therefore be between a 940m and a 950m with it being closer to the 940m in all but memory limited situations. Decent for pushing CAD at the high resolution but nothing earth shattering when it comes to games, unfortunately not the 960m a lot of people were hoping for.

I'm going to start off by saying I'm not sure this is the right forum to ask for tips on a laptop (I'm not even sure this is the place to asking for laptop tips at all), but when I was building my PC I got some much needed help from the people here, so this seemed the best place to ask (and yes, I also have a desktop that I built) My current laptop is an old 2008 white plastic Macbook, that while it has worked well enough over these past 8 years, it is getting to a point where it just can't do much of anything. Luckily I was able to build my PC that I use more prevalently, or else I was worried I was going to kill it just by playing League on low settings. I was planning on using money earned working this break to buy some part upgrades for my PC (that aren't needed, I just wanted to), until I cam across this in a Newegg email ad:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315131 And while I know this laptop isn't going to be breaking benchmarks (it is only listed at $500 after all), but it does seem to offer good specs for the price, most notably, the GPU and monitor, and it seems that it will run what games I have (I think my most intensive is Tera) and function well as a college/personal laptop Now to the overall question of this post: is this a good laptop (for what I need)? And/or does anyone have any suggestions on one that is better with similar or better specs for around the same price? (and I mean $500 or less)

Greeting everyone, I would like to make thread about mobile new generation 9XXM from Nvidia. Here's some info from internet (sources at bottom) and I would like to make discussion about it. GeForce GTX 900M series will be named: GT 940M* GTX 950M* GTX 960M* GTX 970M GTX 975M GTX 980M (Spips in October) ​​​*No info about them at this moment About GeForce 9XXM series This generation will be based on GM204 chip. Probably this chip will be in version GM204B and still 28nm process. This generation promises desktop class gaming and 980M/97xM may be capable of gaming beyon 1080p. But main WOW is in power consumption, because Nvidia announces that this Maxwell generation is able to run on battery (100W) and also lower thermal output. y And there is new update in technology Nvidia Battery Boost which was used in 8XXM series. This technology hold 30+ FPS and hold it at this level if you need to. For example if you play FPS you need more FPS (lol - first person shooter, frames per second) but if you play strategy or some static game you dont need high FPS for static scene. With Battery Boost works new updated Nvidia Experience with plugged and battery optimalization settings. Anytime you can play game higher than 30 FPS (I would say 60 FPS in 980M) and on battery you can still manage quite long game time. In compare to Kepler, this Maxwell generation has from 1.5 to 2 times faster NVENC video encoder (from 6 to 8 times the speed of playback). Pure Video Feature Set E decoding should go from 8 to 10 times better thanks to cache and memory efficiency. But still H.265 is not fully hardware supported for decoding, so is used hardware and software mix for decoding boost instead. 970M and 975M GTX has core clock of 954 MHz and it should be able to operate at 954-993 MHz. It has 6GB memory and according to all data I've read 975M is going to have higher core and memory clock or in my opinion 970M would have 4GB memory and 975M 6GB - this is just speculation. But stil 97XM version has slower memory bus it's 192 bit, but still outperforms all curren mobile cards. In compare to 980M is 20% slower. Release date is unknown. 980M Has 8GB memory as 880M and same memory bus - 256 bit. Core speed is nice 1032 MHz and boost is up to 1098 MHz. This performace is capable to play on highest settings on 1080p at 60FPS. TDP is unknow but probably is going to be around 100-115 W. And there is some crazy result 980 vs 980M Two way SLI. 980 got at Fire Strike nice 10415 and 980M SLI (yes its SLI, but hey it's laptop card) got awesome 13181. 980M SLI is totatly 1080p 60 FPS Ultra settings choice, probably nothing you throw at it gonna stop it bellow 60 FPS. Videocardz.com said that from unknown reason 980M SLI is insanely greater than 980, scaling is 95%+! "Whether this is just a well written driver or a new technology for mobile GPUs, we do not know yet.". 980M is going to be shipped in October.
