I recently bought a used Lumia 920.1 off my friend who no longer found it useful since messenger has stopped working properly. It works fine when connected to WiFi but on mobile data, it fails to connect for some reason. (apparently an issue on a number of older Lumia phones) Maybe it would work again if I updated the phone to Windows 10 but I don't want to do that for a number of reasons. I can simply use messenger through a browser so technically it's not too much of a problem. However, since I don't necessarily want to have a browser running in the background every time I need to wait for someone to respond to my message while doing something else, I've been wondering: is there an alternative app that would support the messenger protocol and work correctly on my Lumia 920?

Hi, AI was planning to do a CPU upgrade from my i7 920 on my x58 board to get some more juice out of it. So I was looking for those cheap pulled from server xeons. At the first glance I wanted to go for a x5680. But it's a little too expensive for a gamble imho (100eur). So I found out that the 5675 goes for about 66 bucks,(and is almost the same as not better if you compare the performance/price ratio with the 5680) but the launch date of the chip is Qx'11 instead of Qx'10. My board already runs the latest and greatest BIOS firmware from 2010. But I'm still worried that my board doesn't support or even recognize the chip from 2011?.. And all I could find online was that those 2010 xeons, 5650,5660,5670,5680 work on this board, but multiplier is limited to only 21 or 22 max (which isn't a big problem I guess). What would be my best bet? Trying the 5675, or just take the 5680 or instead just get a w3680 that is like 70 Bucks. By the way, is this 3680 really the same as a 5680? Only diffrences I can see is QPI links max 1, max ram support 24gb, PAE 36-bit instead of 40-bit. Advice or any other feedback is appreciated.

I was just wondering what you guys would value an i7 920 at, 5870 Vapor X, as well as a P6TD Deluxe motherboard at. The CPU and GPU haven't been used for over 5 years, and neither have ever been overclocked. There aren't any listings where I am (Durham Region, Ontario) on Kijiji. Anyway, let me know what you guys would be willing to pay and what you think would be a fair price for the components. Thanks. :} P.S. I'm on lunch break right now, so I won't be able to response for a while.

Ok, so I have this really old PC but I'm into gaming and I really can't play anything with an average of 30fps with everything low and off. So, I started saving for a new GPU, back when I wasn't into hardware this much. Now I'm really worried about bottlenecking and compatibility with my motherboard. Here's my rig https://valid.x86.fr/cckfi0 . By the way, I was wondering about overclocking my CPU, but I never came around to find a program to make it simpler. If you know of one please make sure to let me know. I'm sorry if I didn't provide enough, just ask if you need any additional info. Thanks in advance.

The title gets straight to the point. Looking over my newegg purchase history I learned that the same ram I purchased 8 years ago is still in stock. As I type this with all my tabs open and wow running in the background my ram utilization is at 90%. This is how I typically use my pc. Would doubling the memory make an impact in my systems performance? And if so, should I purchase 6gb for $60?

Hello all, I have recently "acquired" a free Foxconn Bloodrage GTI Motherboard with an i7 920 installed with it. "Acquired" is in quotes because this hardware was given to me on the basis that I would give it back if I no longer need it, ergo no selling things. I am planning on using this hardware in a gaming rig, but the 920 was a little less powerful than I'd like, so I decided I'd look around for options and I found some incredibly cheap Xeons... Then I saw this, which is nice. I heard some guys have ran xeons with this mobo, they just update the bios before dropping it in. People seem to think that this particular Xeon is at least comparable to the i7 950, and something also of note is that I have a liquid cooler already; single 120 closed loop. I know it'd be an upgrade in performance, but what I'm not sure about is if it'd be $50 worth of performance. The rest of my rig in up in the air currently, aside from my GPU which is a GTX 480. RAM is mixed and matched totaling 5GB and power supply is getting replaced. No SSD. What do you guys think?

sooo i got an intel i7 920 and this summer i am thinking about upgrading my pc in terms of cpu gpu (and motherboard obviously). But as i was reading reviews benchmarks and stuff i realized that actually my 920 with a good overclocking can be better or the same as 4th generation i5 or i7. Even though i am still not sure about how legit that is but still a 10 or at max 20 frames difference that i noticed in some reviews from the i7490k per se when you get 100 or 80 frames is not noticeable. Soooo back to the point should i stay in x58 overclock and get a nice 970gtx or go for a new i7 4xxx/i5 4690k and double my budget. ps : my motherboard is a gigabyte udr 3  bad for extreme stuff  or no? ps2: i play at 1680x1050 and i wont upgrade to an 1080p or more in the distant future

So guys I've had my i7 920 D0 x58 for like 4 years or something crazy, and every now and then I try push it hard, just to see if I can't stretch its life out a bit longer before going to a i7 5820 x99. The current system is running a H100i, with a coolermaster cm storm trooper chassis. Yet my temps are highish at 65-70 under game load, and 75 under max loading, its running at some ridiculous voltage like v1.39 and oc'd from 2.6 to 4.0ghz HT is ON and i dont wanna turn it off, i have 1866 Vengence ram thats running at 1607mhz cant find away to get out from the x20 multiplier because my board [foxconn flamingblade gti] is a piece of shit.... that said its Rockstable at 4Ghz and i cant afford to loose that stabilty as i use the machine as a Workstation for 3ds max rendering. I've read about the Highest OC on that chip is being 4,6Ghz off of water, so assuming thats a crazy triple rad with a second double rad setup how close do you think it should get and still be stable like it is..

Hey Guys, Was wondering if You had thoughts on the following rig update: From: Intel i7 920 2.66 OC 3.8 (degraded over years...) EVGA X58 3SLI Motherboard GSkill Sniper 12 GB Triple channel ram Thermaltake Thoughpower Modular PSU 750w Corsair h100i Liquid Cooler EVGA GTX 570 (I don't game heavily) Crucial M4 Ssd 240gb Antec 1200 case (original one) Into (the psu, gpu and ram would remain the same): Raid 0 Intel 730 SSD 240gb (Bought) Intel 4790K (Bought) NZXT H440 Razer (for its colors over the other available, not because its razer I have Ducky and Logitech peripherals) UNSURE: Gigabyte Z97X UD5H: I would take this one over:) or Asus Z97-AR (my priorities in order: Longevity (I kept my EVGA mobo since came out without RMA), Features and Look. So mainly my questions are: 1- Ram will be ok in my z97? 2- Thoughts on motherboard for Z97 (my requirements specified above + Need PCI for my Audiophile 192) 3- Other thoughts Thanks a lot and looking forward your answers!

Hello guise, I just received a motherboard and processor from my cousin over the weekend. They decided to upgrade to Haswell, Overall I'm pretty happy with the platform so far. Overclocks like a champ, only issue is that I can't seem to get Speedstep to work while overclocked. It's kind of annoying since I've been trying to figure this out for a while. Heard that it's completely disabled on this board when overclocked. I have it plugged into a Kill-A-Watt meter: with speedstep working properly, system idles at around 150w, but with it disabled it takes 180! which is a pretty significant chunk of power especially with the high temperatures we have this summer it's hot enough in the room. Any suggestions? I've looked all over the internets and haven't found any solution. One thing that did work was overclocking with voltage on auto, but I found that it tends to overvolt the CPU waaay too much. Running at 3.4GHz, the i can run at 1.1v, but on auto it's already at 1.3v! TOO MUCH! Halp pls, Thanks in advance. Edit: after looking again, the frequency does scale down eventually but the voltage doesn't. (dynamic voltage scaling.)

I have an old PC ~5 years old. My GPU recently died so I need a new graphics card. I'm afraid of buying a card and having it be bottlenecked. I don't think it will be an issue, but I don't have money to waste on unnecessarily powerful components. If you have any experience with combining a modern GPU with an old build then I'd be really thankful for your input. Things like compatibility issues i don't think should be a problem, but again, I'm not sure. Right now I'm looking at either a 760 or 750ti. Specs: MoBo: Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 Chipset CPU: Intel® CoreT i7-920 2.66GHz RAM: 6GB Kingston HyperX Triple Channel 1600MHz Low Latency PSU: 910W Silencer PPCS910 OS: Windows 7 64bit Professional If you need to know any other specs besides these then feel free to ask and I'll add them.

Well the title says it all. What would bottle neck it? I don't think much would. Also is this still an ok mobo: Gigabyte EX58-UD5? Thanks!

Hello, I currently have a i7 3770k clocked at 4GHz ish. http://gyazo.com/e43221ef148ca640733bf2e697166c17 cooling wise I am using an antec h2o 920 getting about as much air flow as it can handel Is my processor running too hot? should i down clock my processor to stock speeds? (3.5GHz) what temperature should my processor be running at? reccomendations to keep it cooler? (i dont always keep my cooler on the "extreme" setting. just when i feel the need to get it down in temp to avoid a melt down) Thanks, --Akadi

I have seen an Intel Core i7 920 in a local shop for £25. I know that 1366 motherboards are pretty expensive (and X58 is hard to find) so is this a good price for this CPU? Should I pick it up, or is it not worth it? Anyones opintion would be appreciated, thanks

Hi, I was wondering, I a really old rig now: X58 EVGA 141-BL-E757 [socket LGA1366] i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz [Has never been OC'ed] 12.0GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 530MHz (8-8-8-19) [Note: I have no idea what the 530MHz means, I pulled it out of Speccy, I'm pree sure my memory runs faster than that] R9 280X ASUS Direct CU II I decided to do a stress test today with my new H100I. [Note: I also ran Furmark at the same time] I found that my temps had been pree good, with both fans running around 900RPM and the temperature of the CPU peaking at around 60 C. However, I decided to reach into my case and touch the block and tubing to see if it was hot at all. It was quite cool and the cooler was doing its job. Although my CPU temps were fine, I found that the Heatsinks for the motherboard were really hot to the touch, In fact, they probably felt like they burned my hand if I contacted them. My rough guess would be 80C or higher. (I work at sbux and make 150 F/60 C Lattes and they feel a bit warm to the hand when I pick them up. So I could guess that the heatsink was much warmer.) I also went to touch the heat spreaders on the ram. To my surprise, they were also about the same temperature as the motherboard heat sinks. I'm starting to get worried at this point. I turn off both the stress tests and then wait 10 mins. The Motherboard has two heatsinks. One near the first PCIe slot, and One near the Exhaust fan. I feel both of them. Naturally, the one closer has cooled down significantly, but the other one is still really warm. So I want to ask you guys, What is the maximum safe temperature for a heat sink on a motherboard and the heat spreaders on the RAM. Thanks in advance : D

Hey All! Apologies in advance if this is thread is in the incorrect category. PC: CPU: i7 920 2.66g Ghz CPU Cooler: Corsair H70 - Push and Pull GPU: EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature 2 MOBO: Gigabyte EX58-UD4P RAM: 12GB OCZ XTC Platinum (6gb) & GSkill RAM standard clock (6gb) PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W - 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified HDD: Seagate 1tb (OS) + 5 HHDs mixed from 1-3gb CASE: Thermaltake Armor+ (Full Tower) So I've been deliberating for a while now if I should upgrade my PC or not. Currently I don't have any SSDs running my OS, nor that I've a RAID Array arranged for the safety of my data (yet). In recent times I've noticed a potential bottleneck from my CPU when playing games, where I'd find my CPU overheating (not the main grounds of upgrading). E.g. Starcraft 2 lags like hell when around Creep (I know this is already an issue) Rome 2 also lags after extended play (causing BSOD) - eek! NOTE: That I run my games in native resolution of: 1440p - 2,560 x 1,440 I've also noticed my PSU's fan has becomes really loud whenever under load, in the sense that I think the fan is going at almost 100% (I don't know how to detect this, except for listening in on my PC itself). Today I installed Real Temp 3.70 which is showing some high readings in temp. Cons to what I'm talking about is the fact that I haven't cleaned my PC in over a year (I have a Metro Data Vac - Electric Duster) which I will be using within the following months. Finally, as I think about my new build to my PC. I was contemplating on turning this PC into a server for a hot swappable function with Raid 6. Then turning my new Haswell PC into super gaming (1st SSD OS and software (250gig), 2nd SSD (500gig) Games, and 3tb raid 5 (for basic Storage). I know that a little messy, but hopefully I get a little extra direction with you guys .

Hello everyone I have been wondering if the time is right to go for a socket upgrade and how much performance I would be able to gain from it. I'm currently running an i7-920 @ stock setting, I have been having a lot of problems overclocking it for some reason. Anyway the questions is pretty simple how much performance in games would have I be able to gain from the upgrade. I know it's not released yet and therefor no one knows for sure how will it performs. Current build is PSU: XFX SLI 850W CPU: I7-920 @ stock with a h100i colling it /(waste I know!) RAM: Kingston12gb @ 1033MHz (just some low range model I don't know the actual name) MOBO: Gigabyte x59-ud4 rev 1.0 GPU: GeForce GTX 780 Best regards: Zyano

Hey guys, quick question: Is the Intel i7 920 still considered a "good' CPU? I've had mine for quite some time now and it still feels fast, but is it? What do you guys think? Also, is it bottle-necking my EVGA GTX 660 SC? Main uses for PC: PHotoshop CS6 Premiere/AfterFX CS6 C4D Gaming
