So i just got a new 980pro 250gb that has to be 7000r/5000w but before i bought this m.2 my 860 evo was speeding around 3000r/2500w with rapid mode, an hour ago i tested these ssds and results are these; 980pro 250gb = 3471 read 2647 write / 317k read iops 255k write iops (full power mode) 860 evo 500gb = 7390 read 5941 write / 171k read iops 78k write iops (rapid mode) or am i just blind to read numbers on my screen, m.2 has to be much faster right?

Helo peepal! Recently i bought a samsung 860 evo 250gb ssd and slapped it into my laptop internal sata 3 port everything is working fine except for the speeds. Sequential reads are fine even sequential write are okish but what bothers me the most is the 4k random read/write those are really slow when compared to other people’s SSDs should i be worried or is it normal? AHCI is enabled trim is enabled rapid is disabled and write caching is enabled Photos https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vAS8EHtnhVrX6FPEj0baKa4HuO7P28dt/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H-YfUQtrtw7DAe6i-K__EZovxT7XOOMn/view?usp=drivesdk

Hi, I plan on upgrading my 500gb 850 evo to a 1tb ssd. To my extreme dismay, the prices I paid for my unit is now equivalent to a 1tb sku, and I paid around 170-180 usd. Now I am choosing between a 2.5" sata 860 evo for 173 usd vs the m.2 nvme sx8200 for 157 usd. I know samsung's 2.5" evo speeds can match even some nvme drives. But I do know that the sx8200 is not one of the bad ones. So Which one do I go for, and why? Hoping to gain some insight, Thanks!

Hello I have got an HP pavilion X 360 14-cd0055tx laptop. Originally it came with and Intel optane SSD Plus 1 terabyte standard Hdd. I am having a very slow boot times and I want to upgrade my 1 terabyte hdd to a fastest Samsung 860 EVO SSD. My main question is that will it work. I don't want any main performance boost which I will get from the optane enable. I just want to ask that is it compatible to use a Intel optane module with the Samsung 860 Evo SSD. The main issue is that the HP BIOS is not letting me change the controller options from IRST to AHCI which is causing me a lot of problems while inserting a nvm drive into the m.2 slot. Mt nvne drive freezes randomly. Therefore now I am being forced to use sata SSD with Intel optane. I just want to know that this configuration will work I don't need any Intel optane benefits which I will get. "Which means don't write comments like that when you put a Intel optane drive with the sata a SSD drive you won't get much benefit from it". I am not looking for benefits the sata SSD speed will be a boast either way. I just want to know that it won't give me any trouble.

Hello ! I came across a specific details that bothers me and I wonder if you guys could answer my question (for the purpose of the topic, we will only talk about the SSD 860 series) Samsung on their web site (specs section) advertise their SSD's exactly like this : QVO 860 (1TB) : Samsung V-NAND 4bit MLC EVO 860 (1TB) : Samsung V-NAND 3bit MLC PRO 860 (1TB) : Samsung V-NAND 2bit MLC The problem is that fundamentally if a cell has 2bits it's a MLC, if it has 3bits it's a TLC and if it has 4bits it's a QLC. This is my question: Why does Samsung keep advertising their SSD's as MLC if they are not ?? Is it partially true at a certain extent (maybe if it's just 20, 40, 60, 80 or even 100% true) or it's just marketing bullshit for sales ?

What is the best way to wipe my Samsung 860 EVO without dmg? It is currently my boot device on an old build for windows and now my only device on my system. I'm taking this SSD for my (new)build as extra gaming storage and starting from scratch on the current (old) build for my wife. I don't need any files on my 860 EVO.

Hi, I recently purchased a new samsung 860 evo m.2 version 250 GB to install in my acer aspire 5. Due to corrupted windows installation media I needed to install windows on it many times(around 10). After installing windows from a new media I checked my ssd speeds in samsung magician. My sequential read/write speed were as expected around 540/515 MB/s however random speeds were very low for an ssd around 30000 IOPS for both read and write. I have AHCI sata enabled and TRIM enabled. If anyone could help me out with this issue it would be really good!

So I am retiring my old P45 mobo and Q9550, but planning to use it to build a “workstation” for work (Excel, 2-D CAD), one thing I will need is a small low price ssd. To be more specific I am deciding whether to buy a 256 GB ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Lite (It is a Chinese-only version NVMe 1.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD, but under the hood it uses the same PCB as SX6000 with a XPG heatsink); Or, keep using my current OS boot drive, a Samsung 860 EVO SATA SSD. The biggest snag bing the NVMe is DRAM-Less, but I heard they might using a SLC NAND as cache for the MLC NANDs. This NVMe/860 EVO drive will be used as system drive with few games and boot-drive-only software, I usually use this computer for play games and watch LTT, not really for steaming or rendering (But might do that in future.) The rig is a X570 Aorus with Ryzen 3600 and GTX 970, 16GB of DDR4-3200. Rapid mode will be turned on with the Samsung regardless of it is a boot drive or not. If I bought the NVMe, the 860 EVO will be used as a secondary game/page file/cache drive. Other wise I will use the 860 EVO as OS, and a SU 800 (120GB) as a game/cache drive. So to better illustrate it, in my case I will end up with following drive configurations (yes there are a lot of drives here... Oh I should mention the long-term storage drives are removable and I follow the 3-2-1 rule) Some data from ADATA and Samsung

I recently picked up a Samsung 860 EVO ssd and after installing it, it looks like the speeds are not as fast as they're supposed to be. I already have an 850 EVO that works fine. My motherboard is the Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO. I've tried updating to the most recent firmware, using a different sata port and all different cables. In addition, when running UserBenchMark my computer crashes when benchmarking the 860 EVO and give me the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, which seems to be some sort of SSD related error. I've also tried an identical 860 EVO and it still runs slow and gives me the same error when running UserBenchMark. I've attached a picture showing the status of the 2 drives in the Samsung magician software. Any suggestions or ideas that can help me troubleshoot this drive would be greatly appreciated. I also installed the same drive with no problems and it seems to be running perfectly on my dad's computer which has a Gigabyte motherboard. Could this be a compatibility issue?

I know, I know, 860 Evo is obviously quite faster than wd green but the price is around double for the same capacity. My main concern is how much of a difference will I see in real life. Programs I use are Microsoft Office products, Multiple browsers with lots of extensions and tabs, photoshop, illustrator, Zotero and occasional SolidWorks. These are the applications I could come up from the top of my head. Usually, my windows setup has lots of applications which I rarely use but I like to keep it that way. So, I want to know the difference I will notice and where I will notice if I go with WD Green. Links: WD Green ssd ~ 39$ 860 Evo ~ 68$

Hello. My PC is brand new but there seems to be an issue with the SSD. After running CrystalDiskMark a couple dozen times, I noticed that my drive health was impacted. Specifically, after a full benchmark with the "test count" option set to 9, the drive's health decreased to 99%. I quickly attempted to open Chrome only to be greeted with terrible red and black visual artifacts within the browser window. I am also concerned about the random Q1 write speeds. I would appreciated any bit of help you can provide. Thank you. Hello, Last night I was installing an old 850 Pro SSD to increase my storage. However, while I was making sure my boot drive was still my newer 860 EVO, I accidentally clicked my old 850 Pro, which still had drivers from my old Intel 4690k system that I haven't used in a couple years (I have been on AM4 with my 2700X since). After it booted, I quickly shut the computer down and booted into my 860 EVO, which I thought took more time than usual. As I booted into Windows, I noticed that my clock was an hour off! So, I unchecked and rechecked the "set time automatically" setting in windows, which quickly set the time back to normal. However, that got me thinking if anything else could have been messed up by booting into my old drive. Or maybe this was all a coincidence? I'm not sure. Since then I cleared my old SSD and I now plan to use it as secondary storage for games. Thanks in advance, Joe

Can I keep my samsung 860 ssd lying on the bottom of my case? I recently bought a new ssd for storage and want to put it on the top ssd mount but the sata power connector won't reach both ssd at the same time. So I just kept it in the bottom of the case lying flat front side down with no pressure on the connectors.

Good day! It’s prime day today and I’m thinking of buying a 500GB SSD for the games that I play most of the time. I was original going to buy the 860 Evo at the end of the month when I receive my salary but today MX500 is included in the prime day sale. Today the price of MX500 500GB is $97(Prime day discount, not on sale = $125) while the 500GB 860 Evo is $125(Not included in the prime day sale) Can anyone tell me their experience with Crucial SSDs? I’ve been using Samsung SSDs for years (My cousin still uses my 128gb 830 evo until now) and I didn’t have a problem with them. I just want to hear your thoughts on Cruicial SSDs. Thank you!

I have been saving up for a while and decided it's time to buy an SSD and use it as a boot drive instead of my 6-year-old WD green. I now have 4 options within my budget, a 480 GB Kingston A400, A 480 GB Team L5 Lite 3D, A 512 GB Gigabyte UD Pro or the tried and true Samsung 860 Evo but only at 250 GBs. I couldn't find much info on the first 3 but of course, the Samsung drive is infamous for its quality. All 4 options cost about the same. I wouldn't mind a 250 GB drive as I will be using my hard drive as well but getting double the capacity at the same price is at least worth considering. My Motherboard only has SATA 2 so I won't be surpassing 300 MB/s until a CPU upgrade is due. I'll only be using it as a boot drive and maybe put WoW on it but not much else. These are the only options I have available where I live and Amazon is not an option for many reasons. Thank you for your help in advance.

Ok so I was just wondering about a project that I have been working on for a while . It's a dell latitude e5430 that now has a samsung 860 evo 250gb , 16gb ddr3 1866mhz and an i5 3210m . now the cpu seems to be upgradeable to an i7 3540m and maybe an i7 3632qm . what i would like to know is if this upgrade would be sensible and whether or not one or both cpu's would work or wheter or not the upgrade is worth it. the os is windows 10 pro 64 bit

I'm building a high-end gaming system(to pair with a streaming box to stream), and I was thinking about what kind of storage it would need. The current build is like this; I initially tought of buying a normal HDD(the Toshiba one, 120€ for 4 gb; WD black is too pricy imho) for random softwares & files, and storing games that I feel don't need an SSD, and a SATA SSD like Samsung 860 EVO/Crucial MX500(leaning towards the Samsung for the longer warranty, but the Crucial is like 50€ less for the same space!) 1TB for games that I want to be on an SSD/games I play the most. Now, it has come to my attention that a NVMe SSD is much, much faster also in reading speeds for games and everyday use than a SATA SSD, but the perception of the performance is roughly the same(gaming wise); so I tought I'd buy a 256GB 960 EVO to install the OS and critical softwares on(like Steam, OBS and the like just to have that incredible performance), games I prefer on the SATA SSD, and all the rest on the HDD. But now it got me thinking; is it really worth to spend 340/390€(110€ for 960 EVO+230€ MX500/280€ for 860 EVO) on a combination of 2 SSDs of different sizes and speeds but with higher combined storage of 1TB+250GB, or it's wiser to either commit to 1 single cheaper SATA SSD(either the MX500 or the 860 evo), or better to just bite the bullet and get 1, single, more expensive NVMe SSD(a 1tb 960 evo for 370€)? Also, the MX500 is simply the correct choice, right? No point to spend 50€ more... or is it? Is there like, an hidden reason I do not know about?

I bought both drives off Amazon the evo was $79.99 and the MX500 was $69.99 they seem to perform the same. Which one is the better one? I plan to return on just wasn’t sure which one. It’s use case is running windows and a game or two along with usual programs.
