So I was planning on getting the ryzen 5 1600 until coffee lake came out. I wouldn't be doing much video making or live streaming if any and was not going to do too much overclocking. Mostly, I'm going to be using my computer for gaming and school work and maybe a bit of photoshop So, I was wondering, should I go with ryzen (Intel Build ) or Intel (Ryzen Build). The ryzen build also has quake champions and assassins creed origins. I was thinking of getting assassins creed if it got to maybe $30 USD and I don't really care for quake. Thanks!

I have a g4560 with a gtx 970 on a b350 board for my PC, but with some newer more cpu demanding games, the g4560 is starting to fall behind. Im also looking to get a high hz monitor (120,144 etc) for some games at 1080p. So essentially im looking to get a new cpu with a bit more power soon. Im looking to spend ~£200 (give or take 30) so For a while i was eyeing the r5 1500x and a b350 board for OC, but now the i5 8400 is here with 6 full cores and good single core too, but that would require a new motherboard too (i am willing to wait for cheaper ones tho). There is also the option of buying a used/new kaby/skylake cpu for £100-200 without needing a new motherboard, such as a used 6500 for £110 https://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SCPUINTI56500KA for less performance but cheaper. Opinions?

Hello there, in a week or so I want to build a new pc, but i don t know what cpu should i be using. I have to choose a 180-200$ cpu for my budget. I have to choose between i5 8400 and ryzen 5 1600. If i go ryzen i will take a b350 mobo so i ll overclock the chip as far as possible, because i want the full potential for my money.. If the gaming result is 5 fps or so lower than the other it doesn t bother me, but i d want to stream 720p60 and i can' t see any stream test with the i5 8400, and i kind of do entry level productivity to. I mean i won t stream every day, and not very demanding games, but i need a cpu that is decent in doing that task. Should i wait to see more about coffe lake? What do you think? Wich of them are better for future proof?

Looking to upgrade that rig of yours to the newest generation of Intel cpus? Well, you may be to wait a bit. Due to the high demand (specifically for the "K" series chips) of the processors, e-retailers and brick and mortar stores have found there shelves "decaffed" of Intel's newest flagship. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-coffee-lake-shortage-cpu,35632.html When reached out to for comment on the shortages, Intel responded: "The 8th Gen Intel Core desktop processors and systems are on sale globally. We’re actively working with our retailers to fulfill strong interest from customers on the i7-8700k SKU." As for the shortage of non-K SKUs, Intel is looking into the matter and should have a response soon, according to the above article from "Tom's Hardware". Enjoy the read!

I have been beating my head against google trying to find this benchmark. I have found the 8600k vs the 1600x overclocked, the 8600k vs the 1600x base clocks, and the 8400 vs the 1600 base clocks. I haven't been able to find any info regarding the 1600 with a max overclock vs an 8400. I feel like this would be the fairest comparison at the $200 price point, a few reviewers have stated they didn't overclock the Ryzen because the 8400 can't overclock, which I find annoying as that is one of the major benefits of the Ryzen. Any help finding this would be greatly appreciated.

I am helping a friend choose some components for a system. Now, his budget can fit a 2080 with an i5 8400 as mentioned in the title. He's planning to game on a 1080p 144Hz panel. What I am wondering is whether or not the CPU will bottleneck the GPU in that instance. He wants to stay at 1080p because of future proofing the system in that he won't have to update it very soon even if he keeps playing current AAA titles. Would it be beneficial to just save a few bucks and go for the 2070 instead? Or maybe even consider a Ryzen build? More threads for better high FPS performance. I shied away from that though as he won't really be doing any productivity work/anything other than gaming.

Back in June, I built a new pc for my little brother as his was getting outdated. Recently I was checking it over to see if everything was functioning all and well. While checking temps I noticed that the CPU was running at around 39-42 celsius on idle. It seems very odd that on idle it could raise such high temps, I don't know what would be causing it to do such a thing. I have the temperatures attached for all 6 cores.

I've noticed that i5+ 8400 has a built-in optane memory, can I use that optane memory on a secondary disk or just the primary disk(Disk with the OS)?

Greetings, I have an issue I think it may be a bottleneck issue, while playing battlefield v my CPU util is always at 100%, GPU 60-80 I tried everything graphics-wise, tested the highest and the lowest yet I get the same low fps 30-80, am running the game at 2k, I tried lowering it same issue, so is there any ideas how to make the game playable? more like 60 stable fps at least, and thanks

So, I have been struggling that which one should I buy, amd ryzen 5 1600 or i5-8400. 1600 has more clock speed and +6 threads compared to 8400, and I watched few fps game tests. i5-8400 had 5-10 more fps on many games. So if i5-8400 gives few more fps, what does the 1600 do? What is its "speciality" compared to 8400? Thanks

I've heard most people tell that stock cooler is enough for an 8400 but I'm still paranoid, I can shell out $50 and get an MA610P, that's the best cooler for that price available here in my region. Anyway, as you read in the title, I will be getting the upcoming flagship gtx or rtx or whatever card and will play games maxed out in mostly 1080p and 4k sometimes. So, will the 8400 be okay with just the stock cooler with games maxed out in 4k? I don't want temps to go above 60-70 c. And is the MA610P good?

Hi guys, a couple of months ago I had a water leak in my pc. luckily my insurance gave me enough money to buy second hand replacement parts, the issue is the parts I bought look ugly. Because of the non-appealing looks I have been looking at a new motherboard combo, and it would not cost so much as I can sell the current setup for a good penny. Here is how I look at things: (tbh I haven’t used any of these systems so I would love some feedback) so this is my current setup: gtx 1080, some random gigabyte itx bord, 16gb ddr3 ram, and i7-4770 non overclockable CPU. How I see the options that I have: I5-8400, good: New and not 5 years old + less noise and heat. Bad: no performance increase. I5-8600k, good: same as above + better gaming performance. Bad: must buy new cooler. I7-8700: no need to overclock to get better performance, however it cost more than the 8600k with a new cooler. 1600x, good: supporting amd + overclockable system for 100 euro less than intel. but I upgrade systems allot and it usually isn’t expensive as I sell the previous stuff, but ryzen chips are hard to sell and go usually for a lot less than intel systems. Tldr: I mainly use my pc for gaming, I have a gtx 1080 currently, will I get any benefit from upgrading cpu, and If I do upgrade which cpu should I choose, the i5-8400, i5-8600k, i7-8700 or the 1600x?

I currently have the i5 6400 and I'm thinking of upgrading. Is the 8400 a good choice?

Help me choose a CPU - 2600/8400/8600k
Divergent.01 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
READ THE WHOLE POST PLEASE. I'm getting a new PC this week. Can't decide which CPU to get - 2600/8400/8600k? Here's the thing, 8400 is cheaper than 2600 here. And the price difference between a 2600 and an 8600k is about $30. I don't have a problem with getting any. (2600 is the only Ryzen 2 CPU available here) Gaming or productivity you ask? Well, honestly, I'll be gaming mostly for now. But as I won't be getting any upgrades for the next 5 years, I want a future proof system that would let me game and help in productivity in the future. As for the motherboards, I'll have to pair the 2600 with the cheapest X470 as B450 isn't available yet. 8400 gets paired with a B360/H370. 8600k gets paired with the cheapest Z370. Are the cheapest variants of Z370 and X470 worth it? I'll be getting the Hyper 212 Turbo LED to cool the CPU. I'm skipping the GPU for now as I'm not a tight budget. Would probably get a 1060/1160/580 after I save up. -
Hi, I'm planning to build a pc for Image/Video rendering and I'm confused with which CPU to go for. Based on my current budget, I'll have to buy a GPU in the future(6-8 months later). The Ryzen 2400G and the Intel i5 8400 are my options. Suggestions for other CPU's under the $200 mark also fine. I'm looking for a CPU that can get things done for now without a GPU, where I can easily add in a GPU in the future.

I'm building a pc with a 1060 3gb card and I can't decide if i should get a 8600k or a 8400. I want to be able to overclock my cpu, but not if my card bottle necks the 8600k too much, and also is the extra 60 dollars worth it for the 8600k in my build. thanks

Hello, I'm the one who is waiting for H310 motherboard to minimalize cost of build but I found nice rabate for Gigabyte z370 Aorus Gaming K3 (124$ instead of 152$), so I decided to try build something up. The ALC1220 encourage me, its like h310 + some decent PCI audio card. http://www.morele.net/inventory/info/931d6afe/ At the moment build looks this way. There is no GPU because prices are wild these days, and no storage due to the fact that I've SSD 240gb and do not need more at all. I would wait till Nvidia relase 20xx series and then catch mid-end one. Have a critic look at my prebuild and say what I should replace. I'm wondering, is in that case any sense to buy faster RAM? Or maby buy 2133/2400 and OC? I have no goddamn idea how to OC and stuff... I've heard the mobo mentioned by me has problem with xmp profiles, so i'm woried that i would be not up to challenge. I'm more like plug and play user For now, shopping cart content is priced about 750$ (without rabate).

Is this build good enough for 4K gaming? I’ve been planning on getting a 4K monitor but I don’t know if i can run it. I’ve tried using geforce experience to run 4k and they run fine, but I’m a little worried because I’m getting 90-100fps on the GTA V benchmark with 3840x2160 running at high to very high settings and I don’t know if the benchmark is showing my fps on 1080p.(MSAA off, FXAA off, Long shadows on, extended distance scaling off. I’m using about 2907MB/8191MB of video memory) i5-8400 GTX 1070 8GB DDR4 @ 2666 470w PSU 1TB 7200rpm HDD

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z370M-D3H-rev-10#kf Can't find too much information about the board, has anyone bought the same board? Or are there any other good mobos on the entry level? I'm getting an i5-8400 to pair with this and looking to upgrade to a 8700k in the future. Was gonna wait for the cheaper boards but was thinking of the upgrade path more than anything lol P.S. btw i'm strictly looking for an mATX board
