Budget (including currency): 100000/- Country: India Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming / Development Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Intel Core i7-4930K 3.4Ghz Asus Rampage 4 Black Edition (X79) Motherboard Gskill F3-1866C10-8GSR 8GB x4 Ram (933.7 MHz (DDR3-1867 / PC3-14900)) ASUS GTX780TI DirectCU II OC (3GB) Asus VG248 Monitor 1200W Corsair Ax1200I PSU This is a really old setup I had nearly abandoned. The motherboard is a bit faulty as there was pin damage on the CPU socket (which I have repaired, but still stability is dicey) The graphics card works but both the Fans are dead and replacement is unavailable in the market here at the moment. I could not find a X79 replacement motherboard in the current market. I am trying to look for ways to get this thing working and upgrade saving the memory, processor and PSU. Any advise on the upgrade path will be helpful. Target usage will be Gaming and a bit of development work (Unity / Vstudio)

Hello, today I tried wo install Ubuntu on my MacBook but when I start from the USB-stick, an error appears and it says that I the system cannot boot from the stick because of secure boot. How can I disable that? I have already tried to do it at Disk Utilities on Startup Secure Utility but on this menu, I can just add an firmware password. Sorry for the bad English and have a great day! Best regards Leon

Sup peeps! I've been streaming time to time for a while now and my viewer base is starting to grow. Now that it's starting to get a bit more serious, a pc update is in place. Current setup includes an i7 6700k, GTX 980Ti, 16Gb DDR4 300MHz, 500gb ssd, couple of hdd and 2560x1440 165Hz monitor. I mostly play cs go with some rocket league/world of warships/h1z1/bf1 mixed in. I'm trying to get a bit more of the stress to my cpu because my upload speed is quite low (100 down/5 up) and raising my stream quality would either need a better connection or a better cpu. Upping the bitrate makes cs go lag just enough to make me frustrated and unwilling to stream but upping the cpu usage makes my fps drop enough that I notice when the dips go under 144Hz and that distracting while playing. Currently I'm leaning towards LGA 2011-3 and i7 6850k because of the full 40 lanes. Only thing that I'm wondering is that is the update from 6700k to 6850k worth it and does the two extra cores bring enough to table that i could leverage them? I also do game on full 2560x1440 so the res does make it a bit more demanding and the other option that I was considering was buying the new asus PG258q 240Hz monitor and gaming with that as the resolution is only 1080p and should be easier to run. Do share your thoughts.

I would love to find a motherboard socket 2011\1151 with 32gbs of ddr4 like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/g998TW/gigabyte-motherboard-gax99socchampion I just don't know if there are any more please help me out I would like 32gb but if there are none then 64gb, as 128 would be overkill?? I would like to just populate 4 DIMMs instead of 8 I am a gamer, video editor but only up to 1080p @ 60fps, and edit 4K photos

I just got this gigabyte x79-ud3 rev 1.0 used untested (probably shouldn't have gone for it) for $50 on an auction site. I have been looking for an x79 motherboard for cheap to run some xeons that i have (e5 2695v2 and e5 2620) the 2620 v1 is supported by f16 bios and i cant find anywhere what the bios is on the board if an earlier version supports it. the socket is in good condition with no bent or missing pins and i have reflowed the board and gotten the same results before and after. what i get when i turn it on is absolutely nothing, no fans, lights or beeps. there is always a flashing light on the nic but otherwise nothing else. the xeon is known good, as well as the memory. if i plug it into a psu that has the green wire shorted to ground to keep it on it turns on and i get continuous short beeps from the mobo buzzer. i dont see any blown caps or other components or any damage to the power connectors. i have also cleared cmos as well as changed the cmos battery. anything else i can do to fix it? any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Guys, Currently, I have an i7 4790K overclocked to 4.7. I've been streaming and honestly, I am not happy with the quality with some games and the performance hit on some games. I want to focus on a 1 PC setup with minimum impact on game performance, while using fast/faster presets on OBS at 60FPS and even attempting 1080p. I'm currently looking at X99 and I have been looking for the best chip, without getting carried away with the 1K$ cpu's. I'm not sure if to get the 5xxx series or 6xxx series or just wait for the next series of cpus. Also looking at how x264 works, it does benefit from overclocking, so I will be overclocking the best I could. And on a site note, I will not be going for the next gen kaby lake, I want more cores for the kind of things I want to do.

Hello first time poster. Now I don't have pictures to go along with this post I just thought it will be neat to share. When i had built this pc it was towards the end of 2011 and everything was second hand. Basically my first build was scrapyard wars material. Also feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any specs. I'm doing this from memory. Cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.66GHz Cooler: Intel stock cpu cooler Motherboard: Asrock G31 M-GS R2.0 Ram: 2x PNY DDR2-800 4gb HDD: 2x Seagate baracudda 500Gb 5400rpm Gpu: EVGA GEFORCE GTX 550 TO 2Gb Psu: some 500w power supply. Don't remember the brand but it wasn't modular. Case: Antec 900 ATX Mid Tower Case with USB 3.0

So, I bought this Xeon E5 2650 v4 from Amazon (sold & shipped). The only SKU for it that turns up on Google has 2011-v3 socket type associated with it, which is the kind of server board I have for my application. Here's the issue, the processor that I got sent has the right etchings on it, but it's NOT 2011-v3 as can be seen in the attached picture. The sticker at the bottom of the cpu box says "LGA2011V4" on it. The question is, what sorcery is this? And what's LGA2011V4? Thanks.

Hi, so I bought two Xeon E2620's off of eBay, and they arrived today. I've been trying to find a motherboard that's compatible with them and can be used as a graphics card test-bench. I think that I found one, but can't figure out if it's compatible with the processors I got. Could someone please help me find a product page or compatibility list? Thanks.

So, I recently salvaged four different CPU's, as my high school was getting rid of some older workstation desktops. I managed to scrounge up: Intel Pentium E5300 2.70 GHz Intel Pentium E5400 2.70 GHz Intel Core i5 2500 3.30 GHz Intel Core i5 660 3.33 GHz I kinda want to start a general CPU collection, but i'm not sure these are even worth the small amount of space they take up (especially the Pentiums). Should I use them as the beginnings of my collection or should I find something a bit cooler? PS - I only have a (presumably) working motherboard for the 2500. PPS - this is my first ever post on these forums so i hope i'm doing it right.

After 2 weeks of trying, I finally managed to get into BIOS of my new mobo, but I still couldn't get it to boot from USB or HDD. After pulling battery for 30 minutes I get straight into BIOS but with stick or HDD attached it beeps few times and getting stuck with black screen and postcode AA or Ab(Ad?) So, do I have to flash BIOS directly using programmer or there something else? Also, how Chinese were able to put 1155 chipset on 2011 mobo?!

I was looking to replace the keyboard on a late 2011 model 13” MacBook Pro. I’m fairly confident I can replace it with no problems, but I’m wondering if there are any rgb backlit options. I’ve tried googling but I haven’t found anything, so I thought maybe the forums know.

I know that it’s a waste of time trying to fix a 2011 iMac, but I got this for free because it was broken and noticed it’s only a OS issue. I believe the issue is that a non-compatible version of Mac OS is on the iMac. I unfortunately don’t have an Apple keyboard and I tried to plug in a normal keyboard to try and fix it, but it doesn’t seem to get power (the numlock/caps lock lights won’t turn on). The keyboard I used was the one that comes with Dell pre-builts. I just need to get into Recovery mode, but I need a keyboard to do it. Any suggestions as to why the keyboard doesn’t get power?

I've decided to build a 10 year old machine (I know the FX-4100 is from 2011, oh well), but I'm not sure what CPU's were good for the time period. I found the Bulldozer FX-4100 for £20 on CEX and was just curious how well it would perform for games from back then and if it's a good CPU in general?

Hello guys, Someone just gave me a Mac mini 2011 the i5 version, and i don't know what to do with it because i already have a pc gamer and a server. So I come with you if you have any idea. greatfully yours.

Just bought one of these to replace my aging dual xeon x5690 build... I got it on ebay in non working condition for $60 wondering if anyone can think of what the problem might be, with one cpu (e5-2670) vga disabled, and a graphics card in (gtx980ti) i can get video, and get into the bios, but it crashes randomly and freezes in the bios, does this with both cpu sockets, and no matter what ram configuration I use. The chipset heatsink isn't getting warm at all, and the vrms aren't either. every time i try to install the latest bios it gets to 10% then dies completely, wont work with the onboard vga for more that 45 seconds, i've already tried. any help would be appreciated as this was a total steal! <3

So I'm wanting to build a workstation PC. Originally I was set to save up for (note that I don't have the money for this now) a brand new X99 system, likely using a 6950x, X99 Deluxe II, 128gb RAM etc etc... Monitors included it was looking like it was going to cost about $5-6k. I was fine with this though, sure it'd take a while to save up for, but it would be an absolute workhorse, relatively power efficient and the graphics in there would be perfect for some downtime gaming too - this will be my only system as I work from home and can't be bothered dealing with multiple computers. I've since seen a couple of videos and articles talking about the old E5-2670 CPUs, that can be had on ebay for around $80 each. This could give me the potential (using ebay) to have a 16 core workstation with 128GB RAM for a lot less. In fact, I think the only new parts I would want to buy would be a GPU (GTX 1080), PSU (something very power efficient like EVGA P2 or T2 series, depending on total watts) and CPU coolers (likely the Noctua NH-U12-DX-i4, because they're tried and tested server coolers). I was all set on this new (but old) config, until I saw a couple of videos on youtube, where people really hated these chips due to their performance in Premiere. Now, I wouldn't actually be using Premiere as I don't do video editing. My work is in audio and photography, so I'm using apps like Pro Tools along with multiple virtual instruments (requiring a high amount of RAM), 3rd party USB audio etc, and then Lightroom and Photoshop for my photography. I basically want to know if I'm going to be disappointed buying this older setup, or should I keep saving for something much newer? Has anyone had any experience with using older server gear? Can anyone explain the bad performance in Premiere - is it just badly written for handling excessive multiple cores/CPUs? Any insight is much appreciated, thanks!

This is a pretty specific question, I'm not expecting much but figured I'd try anyway. I have a 2011 Cadillac STS with the OEM in dash display which is severely outdated. My center console has video inputs and my plan is to mount a raspberry pi or my LG G4 into the center console connected to the video input. The only thing standing in my way is that the in dash display disables video inputs while the car is in drive. I've seen expensive kits that let you retain video while the car is in drive, but for their expensive price I could just install a third party display with android built in. Does anybody know any workarounds? I really want to set this up, but if it comes to the point of me spending hundreds of dollars and taking apart my dash then I will have to forget it. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, TidaLWaveZ

I've been running a 3930k for 4 and a half years now with this cooler: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX36377 Doesn't seem so bad, right? Not super cheap, mounted well, decent enough airflow, good paste, blah blah blah... At idle, the 3930k on this cooler sits around 42-45 C. At half load it'll jump into the 75-80 C range. At 100% load it will throttle from a 42x multiplier to a 37-39x after about 10 minutes. Without any overclocking (38x multiplier) It will sustain a 100% load for quite awhile before throttling but it will do so around the 85 C to 90 C range. Tj Max is 91C on this CPU. If you're running a CPU that pumps out a lot of wattage, especially if you're overclocking it (this can touch 200w at 100% load with a 43x multiplier), throw on a higher-end CPU cooler. I don't have any hard and fast recommendations other than the fact that the one I linked just isn't cutting it. It really seems like, for an E-series CPU you'll need a cooler with more surface area to heat up and remove heat from the CPU than a midrange CPU cooler can provide. Naturally, because it's running so hot, it's also a very noisy PC once you have any load. Do yourself and your ears a favour and throw a high-end cooler on an E-series chip.

Location: United Kingdom Current Status: Student, Sixth Form Income: ... So I've had my PC since 2011, when I bought the parts just before christmas and built them all up and pretended it was a "present from Santa" for the sake of my little brother. Since then It's had some upgrades and now I'm getting to the point where I'm questioning, "has it reached it's limit?", "what do I need to upgrade?", "how much will it cost?". So I decided maybe its time for a complete overhaul, but I thought I'd get some opinions before I did just that. So below are the specs to my current PC, I want to know whether an overhaul is mostly necessary, and if so what Parts I should go for. (also It's Nvidia GPUs only please, sorry other GPU lovers). PSU: Coolmaster 650W Power Supply http://www.cclonline.com/product/42158/PC-650AUBA-M/Power-Supplies/Powercool-650W-High-Efficiency-Modular-Power-Supply/PSU1188/ Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_PRO/ GPU: Giga-byte Nvidia Geforce 960 http://www.cclonline.com/product/189763/GV-N960IXOC-4GD/Graphics-Cards/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-960-Overclocked-4GB-Graphics-Card-GDDR5-PCI-E-3-0-Dual-Link-DVI-I/Dual-Link-DVI-D/HDMI/DisplayPort/VGA3187/ CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3570K Processor http://ark.intel.com/products/65520/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz RAM: Corsair 4gb x2 Storage: 500gb HDD (only gives me 465gb of the storage) Case: I tried to google for the case and Couldn't find much seeing how it was the cheapest possible case at that time, but for those interested it's called "Trendsonic Vision vs04aa" So that's all, if anymore information is need feel free to ask. Edits: 28/05/2016 @ 10:14pm Added storage and Case information

I just got a 5820k i7, should I get an "open box" Asus x99-PRO motherboard for 288$ or Asus x99-A board for 230$ I will be getting a wireless card which the PRO has an Asus wifi card built in so it that would save me like $35, the PRO comes with an M.2 sata mount, and looks cooler. Is there another difference like power management for over clocking or bios features, because I can't find any?
