Hello I was wondering if anyone was able to help me find the best monitor control panel settings. I typically just use it for gaming. It is Gsync compatible and I leave it on. I was wondering which settings for the monitor would be best for my case. Is leaving the monitor 10 bit okay or is it better to have it 8 bit for gaming? Should I have the colour format as RGB or ycbcr444? Also should I change these settings for HDR and SDR gaming or can I have them the same for both? I typically have HDR on if the game supports it. Are there any other colour settings I should be looking at for this?

Heyy, I'm considering a RTX 3060 if it comes out eventually and I read that newer Nvidia cards (I think since 900 series?) should support 10 bit colour with Open GL programms. I have only a "fake" 10 bit monitor (8 bit + frc), so I wanted to ask if the Nvidia cards only support it with a native 10 pit panel or also a 8 bit + frc?

I thought all HDR displays were inherently 10-bit because all the HDR content I find (4K Blu-rays, etc.) is 10-bit but recently I just found out that there are a lot of HDR displays, like all the flagships smartphones (some exceptions are the ROG Phone II and the new OnePlus 8 Pro) and a lot of Vesa Certified DisplayHDR monitors (like my Dell S2719DC), out here that are only 8-bit. I know there are a lot of factors like brightness and contrast but I feel like color(s) is the most important thing in High Dynamic Range and I don't understand how they can be truly HDR, I'm guessing all this time these displays were all along HDAren't or HDR compatible.

Hi Guys, I recently upgraded from a 28" Full HD monitor to a 32" UHD monitor. Reasons for this being that I won't game that much but rather use the PC for things that demand a higher resolution and a bigger screen. The first thing I tested of course was the 4K function and after setting a lot of things it really looked incredible. Now, I noticed that my monitor has HDR function and 4K movies have 10 bit colors. Problem is, aside from the Displayport or HDMI generation, that needs to match the one the monitor uses to get real HDR (which would be possible in my case for DP), that according to what I read, 10 bit colors are not supported for Nvidia GPUs below the 10xx series. Now the same text also claimed that (back then) HDMI would only support 30 Hz freshrates at 4K resolution (which is I think also on the NVidia site) while DP get's you up to 60 Hz. Now I've tested this, the NVidia setup, the Win 10 setup and most games (that can run at 60 FPS in 4K on a 780 Ti, so low settings) all tell me I get 60 Hz over HDMI. Perhaps this was changed by a later driver update, I have no idea. Therefore I was asking myself. Before I start heading out and buying a new GPU (which I will do probably this year anyways), why is having 10 bit colors via HDMI or DP on a 780 Ti not possible? Using NVidia system control I can adjust everything for 4K but it won't allow me to switch to 10 bpc. After that video that Linus once had on gaming on a bitcoin mining card and another text I found somewhere that claimed that NVidia had unlocked that 10 bit feature after an update for some GTX 9xx cards I was wondering if that limitation is just another software based lock or if there is a physical limitation? Because according to what I know, once I play a file that has HDR 10 and is in 10 bit, my let's say VLC media player will convert that back to 8 bit using color tables. I also saw that. I took a screenshot from a movie that had 10 bit color once with VLC media player and as a direct screenshot inside the VLC mediaplayer. Both had different colors. The one with win + print had the correct 8 bit colors and the one that VLC took were completely off. So I was wondering, isn't it the monitor that has to do the work here? It's the monitor that has to display all this information, and I don't see a reason why my PC shouldn't be able to send it. Therefore my question is, is there a physical limit that would keep me from doing so and if that's the case is there any way yet to somehow switch to 10 bit and fool the softlock (if one exists)? Whenever I watch a techquickie video with white background I can see circles or blocks or patches of different shades of white. One of the videos by Linus explained why could this be happening(can't thank him enough for everything geeky he brings to us). How can I for once, see the videos as the creator intended to make it without any patches or degrading shades over my projector?

I'm a little bad at explaining so i'll do a whole story. I run a company (just me at the moment, no employees) that does content creation (basically a design agency but we do a lot of other stuff that requires a fairly beastly computer). This mainly involves editing 8k raw media (think commercials and corporate videos for people who want the best, and yes I use proxies duh) from my RED Weapon and also 360/VR content to go with this for exhibitions. This tends to bust out the heat on my current computer so I am having to spend thousands of unnecessary £ on editor services, as my computer simply cant handle 2k, let alone 8. I also do aerial photography with an X5R (Inspire 2) for some highend real estate companies in Manchester and London. Now the above is just an outline of the kind of computing power I need. I want to be able to cut editing and rendering times by 4+ by building my own PC later this year, leaving me to do the work and not my outsourced editor. Also, Bear in mind that I do about 5 hours of gaming in my spare time everyday. I built my current computer and am a mild hardware enthusiast, so you don't need to ELI5. Later this year, I fully intend on building the workstation/gaming PC of my dreams. Naturally, I'm waiting for the high-end Core i9s. At the moment, my build is planned with parts something like this (this is not including the custom loop) Intel Core i9-7980XE Founders 1080 Ti (Possibly SLI) Quadro P4000 As you may have noticed above, I am mixing a Quadro with a GTX. This brings the question "Is this next statement below possible?". I want to be able to run 3 monitors off the 1080 Ti and the fourth off the P4000. This is because the fourth monitor is going to be for the color work I do, either the NEC SpectraView 322UHD-2, or the Eizo CG318-4K, I'm more favouring the Eizo at the moment for its DCI 4K resolution which is aspect ratio friendly with my 2nd and 3rd BMC Ursa cameras. The fact that one has to run off the P4000 is absolutely critical, as all of the Creative Cloud applictions run the 10 Bit color depth through OpenGL, which the GTX range of GPUs is not capable of delivering. The reason for having the 1080 Ti is not only CUDA cores for rendering, but the gaming that I like to do, and NO, I cannot stand frame drops. So is this something that you guys think would work? If so, what are the procedures for drivers and other stuff like that? If you have any motherboard recommendations or other recommendations please put them below, I want to make this MY ULTIMATE BUILD .

Hello LTT Community, In the WAN show today Linus mentions that only nVidia Quadro cards have been able to produce 10-bit color. Is this correct?

Hey guys! So i recently bought the LG 27UK600-W, witch is a 10BIT My question is, in Nvidia control Panel should i let the settings on color Nvidia settings and set it as in the picture on 10Bit or to to default that is 8Bit? set it as in the picture on 10Bit

[Now I at least know why it happens, see my newest post] My brand new HP Pavilion Gaming 32 HDR monitor has 2 options of HDR: "VESA HDR 600" (and "HDR Video" which looks exactly the same) and "HDR Gaming - FreeSync". First one looks beautiful, exactly as it should, but doesn't allow Freesync. The second one has really bizarre artifacts. The darks go pretty dark and then completely dark. Also there are a lot of color artifacts. And the image is different too, brighter overall. I tried messing with Nvidia Controller Panel color settings, but nothing helps. My only clue is that even though there is a 10 bit color option, I can't apply it. I click apply, but immediately reverts to 8 bit color. Shouldn't HDR be 10 bit? Maybe that's the problem. Oh, and I am using an Nvidia GPU. I don't know if that's the root cause of the problem, I know a person with an AMD GPU nearby, but this monitor is so big and heavy I will delay bringing it to him as much as possible. I have been researching this for a while, in both Qualcomm(7 series chipsets) and Exynos(7 series chipsets) websites looking for hevc 10 bit video playback supporting processor. But they all say they support hevc video playback but does they support native hevc 10 bit decoding. Because if they don't then it will use cpu to process the file which basically transcodes back to hevc consuming insane battery life. Basically I want to buy a new phone but not premium flagship so looking for the lowest chipset which support 10 bit hevc video playback and then which mobile phone has the same chipset.

Hi guys, I don't know if I'm asking this in the right forum but here's just a small issue, no big deal I'm sure but I can't find an answer: A friend recorded a f****ing amazing video at 1080p about us Kart racing with a gopro and he created a DTS-HD Master Audio track (5.1) and encoded the video with different settings etc.. all that stuff and at the end I copied that into an external HDD with the purpose of watching it through my Oppo BDP-103. The file is a M2TS H.264 at 1080p with the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track but there's a problem: the bit depth color is 10 bit and my BD player only supports 8 bit color and can't play the file, so is there any way to downgrade the color from 10 to 8 bit?? My friend isn't sure because he uses very basic software, so I was wondering if you guys know any tool or software to do this with the DTS-HD track and the bitrate untouched, also I would like the format to be MKV or M2TS if possible. Thanks!

After more than a week of googling, I'm stumped. I edit and colour grade raw RED 4.5K footage, and am looking to upgrade my monitor and GPU. I use Adobe CC apps, so CUDA and/or OpenCL are a must. Currently, my GTX 750 Ti is doing surprisingly well, allowing play and scrub through the 4.5K footage at 1/4 resolution. The display I'm looking at is the LG 31MU97, with Cinema 4K (4096x2160) resolution and true 10-bit colour depth. However, in case the GPU can't handle it, I could get the HP Z27x with 2560x1440, 10 bit colour. So the question: What GPU to get! It really annoys me that the GTX cards can't output 10-bit colour- it's just a driver issue as far as I can tell. As far as I can tell, I can get: GTX 970 /Ti GTX 980 /Ti Quadro K2200 Quadro K4200 This is the summary I made. Is there anything else I need to consider? I can't see a clear winner. Any recommendations?

I have gtx 680 and gtx 970 when I plug my gtx 970 I see option for 10bpc does that mean it will output 10bit? my monitor also 10 bit (asus pro art pa246q)

How big of a jump is 2160p over 1440p in games if AA is needed at higher resolution and pixel density also how windows handles scaling at 2160p

Just saw "How Colour Depth Affects Image Quality as Fast As Possible" and I'm see Linus talking about the color depth in his monitor reviews, such as So I was just wondering, Are 10 bit monitors useful if you don't do media production? Correct me if I'm wrong. Even Blu-rays are 8 bit content. So I assume the majority of the contents we consume are 8 bit at most and are likely low bit-rate, for YouTube and other internet streaming content. So video content are obviously not going to benefit from 10 bit monitors. So what about gaming? Do they render in higher color depth if they can? Is the the same case as higher resolution and higher refresh rates monitors? Are there any games, that can take advantage of 10 bit monitors? I don't see bit depth setting in games. I don't even see refresh rate settings, anymore. If not are 10 bit monitors, in anyway, useful to the general consumer? And if 10 bit monitors aren't good for anything other content creation. Then if the colors aren't accurate. What is the point of 10 bit TN monitors or low-end IPS that don't give good-enough-for-professional color reproduction? Thank you in advance. Hey! I'm considering of buying a cheap korean 1440p monitor on ebay. (Don't worry, I know their limitations.) One of them, Yamakasi DS270 seems to have a 10 bit panel. So my question is, does dual link dvi support 10 bit colours @ 2560x1440 resolution? I wonder this because Linus said in his Asus PA279Q review that you want to use display port. He didn't mention dvi. And if you have any opinion of Korean monitors, I would be glad to get advise.

Hi there peoples! I'm in the planning stages of my next PC, but I really don't know what graphics card I should get. It will be a rather lavish, silent, water cooled and productivity centered build. I do a lot of photo and video editing, and some 3D rendering. The most played game on my Steam account is Worms Armageddon at a whopping 18 h played time (my point is that gaming performance is irrelevant to the point that no card that is suitable for rendering and hardware acceleration is too bad for the little I play). The graphics card will be accompanied by an Intel Haswell-E. I would also like to point out that I'm not a big fan of changing parts every now and then, so I want something that is as future proof as possible. Things I appreciate in life (especially when it comes to graphics cards): + 10 bpc¹ + solid Linux drivers + not having to do extra hacks to make things work² + VGA passthrough³ + double precission, ECC and other things that are goodies for productivity + decent 3D rendering speeds + that Adobe Mercury Engine is fluent and that video rendering fly. Things that I don't care about in life (especially when it comes to graphics cards): - Gaming performance - that the card says Nvidia or AMD - energy efficiency. These are more of guidelines than actual rules, while bold are more important than other things. If you think that x [is not a good thing]/[nothing worth bothering about]/[not as worthwhile as y that you can get instead], please hit me the hardest you can with some good arguments for your cause and I might change my mind! My budget is around $400-$500, but if some more expensive card is vastly superior and costs more (say up to about $1000), it's not completely out of question. Also I don't know whether to go with one or two cards, so some feedback on that would also be nice. So... What GPU should I choose? PS. Some input on how to get the card water cooled (like what water block that is good and will fit or if there is some pre mounted from EVGA etc.) would be appreciated! -------------------------------------------------------------- ¹ 10 bit per color, also known as "30-bit Deep Color".
