I was running my pc after flushing the custom loop I have with distilled water and I forgot to put the cover fitting back on the reservoir which is above my power supply. Water got on the power supply and the pc shut off. I’ve let it dry out and tried turning it on but no response at all. Just wondering if it’s only my psu that got damaged because it’s the only thing that got wet or if there’s a possibility that the damaged psu could have broken other parts too.

Hi everyone, first time posting here, actually made an account here because I am so desperate at this point. Recently I built my dream PC after graduating college and I had it for all of two days before my custom water loop leaked all over the motherboard and GPU (totally my fault, even though I did try to stress test it for over a day for leaks). So I tried to clean everything the best I could with IPA, and fortunately everything seems to power up fine, except I get no display out of the GPU and the white light on the motherboard is on (meaning issue with VGA). I took the card to Microcenter and they told me that they can’t get it to display anything either, I really don’t want to send it in for RMA, does anyone have any idea what could possibly be the issue? Or how I could fix it? The RGB powers up fine, the lights on the PCB turn on, and the fans run fine as well. Any help is super duper appreciated. Thank you for looking.

I don't know if this topic is exactly appropriate for this forum as this is obviously mainly for PC stuff but I honestly wouldn't know where else to ask as I got nothing on Reddit so here I go: So, the other day I found a pair of WH-1000XM3's outside. It looked like they got tossed over a fence and just left tbh. I spent the past few days rigorously cleaning the circuits, removing any corrosion I could find and basically dousing them in alcohol and contact spray. It's not perfect but I made sure there are no corroded points touching each other anywhere. Now it became time to test and lo-and-behold, they work great wired to my phone. Sound at full volume from both sides. Now here's the actual problem: I can't get them to turn on without them being wired to my phone via AUX cable. At all. Plugging them in, the charging LED also doesn't light up. Pressing the power button doesn't do anything, and pressing the ANC button doesn't either. The only thing that happens without AUX cable, is the right side (where the charging port is) making a faint noise, while plugged in. Nothing on the left. When plugging into my PC, I get a Windows notification, but nothing shows up. The first thing I did was to replace the battery, as it looked really bad after opening them up. Right Side: This side was hit really badly with moisture. One of the wires (3rd from the left) has its colored insulation tearing off, but the cable beneath it looks undamaged (The disconnected solder point is the ANC Mic, so I don't think it should impact overall functionality. I would resolder it once they work.) I have no idea what each individual cable does beyond that though. Left Side: This side faired much better overall, it's also where the AUX port works, the power button right next to it does nothing though. Battery Connector: Also on the right sight and visually the most damaged part. Could this be damaged badly enough to not supply power to them? Maybe someone here is more knowledgable on this type of stuff and can maybe help pin-pointing why they're not working wirelessly/ which part is most likely to have broken. I am pretty comfortable fixing them myself if the problem can be solved by simply soldering something or replacing a part. (I also sent an Email to Sony asking if they're still in warranty and they basically told me to send them in to have them look at them then. But I am afraid that that will just be way too expensive when they're not, which I am assuming.)

I have an HP Spectre x360 with an i7 and a 1650 ti that I got about a year and a half ago. It has been working great until two nights ago when I spilled water on it while using it. I heard it sizzle inside and shut off before I could power it down. After it had some time to dry out I tried turning it on and initially got a message that said a fan wasn't working and it turned itself back off. After a little research, I turned it on again, got the same error message but told the computer to boot anyways. I watched the cpu and gpu temperatures and they seemed fine, and the fans kicked on like normal while using it. Since then, the fan error message has stopped showing up when I turn it on and it boots like normal. Now, the computer seems to run normally except that it won't turn on and immediately shuts off if it is not plugged into the AC adapter. The battery says it's at 100% when it's on, and I've ran all of the system diagnostics that I can find on the computer and the only thing it returns is an error for the battery (not that it's failed, but that it can't run the diagnostic properly). Along with that, I've seen a substantial drop in performance while playing games (more than a 50% drop in fps.) Sorry if that is a lot of unnecessary information, but I am just wondering if it would be worthwhile to replace my battery for a couple hundred dollars (will that affect the laptops performance while playing games when the laptop is plugged in?) Or should I just shell out some more money and replace my laptop. Any advice is appreciated.

I just recently bought a new Pixel 6 Pro. I had it for less than 3 months when the inevitable happened. I dropped it in a foot of water at the saltwater beach on vacation. I immediately took it out and let it dry before using it again. It was working fine for about 24 hours when the screen froze and a few seconds later, the whole phone went dark. RIP. It no longer turns on. I get in contact with google support and tell them the situation. They will not pay for any damages caused by water. This is a phone that is IP68 water resistant and the lenses are fogged from 1 foot of water. I am going to get this phone fixed, but this seems like a ridiculous way to treat a warranty. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi! I dropped my iPhone in soapy water. The phone had a cracked back glass so water could enter. The screen was giving only a solid yellow color so I installed a new screen and that works perfectly now. Now I have the problem that the phone freezes after exactly 2min and 50 sec of use and restarts. So I cleaned everything inside (took everything out), tried a brand new battery, booted the phone without anything but the battery and the screen connected to the logic board. Nothing helped. So my only conclusion would be a short circuit inside the logic board. I don't have such a tool to "bake" it and clean or replace something between the 3 layers. Also I think, working perfectly for 3 mins +- and than freezing and shutting off, is a really strange behaviour. Someone experience with this? Something I overlooked? First time I actually brake my own phone and out of all, this one I can't fix Thanks!

My apartment building burned down and I only bothered salvaging the storage from my water damaged computer. I'm unsure how high the temperatures in my room reached so it's hard to say whether or not these were damaged by water alone or high heat as well. It was around a few days before I was allowed into the apartment. I opened my pc and pulled out my hard drive as well as my m.2 ssd and they didnt feel wet (especially the m.2 that was pretty well guarded within the motherboard) After wiping them down they dont have any visible damage on them but they still smell like the smoke and silt that had been sitting on it for days. The computer was off at the time of the fire but still plugged in. How would I go about testing these without ruining them further, at the same time evading paying professional tech guys to inspect them.

The recently hurricane passing through the northeast hit my area extremely hard, and with the stress of a new job and being a bit strapped on cash, I want to take precautions before I do anything. I disconnected my PC as soon as water began pouring in, and set it aside onto my bad, but I saw that it had water on the bottom part. That was 2 days ago, I haven't plugged it in since, I wanted to know if there is anything else I can do before I attempt to turn it on. The psu is an EVGA 1000 watt t2

im writting this with sticky hands on a sticky keyboard on a sticky desktop I dried it with a towel straight away and right now is sitting on our roof to the sun at and angle (advice from my patents) It got spilled to the top and the side buttons stopped working correctly and were pouring coffe even several minutes afterward, the dpi button suffered the most. Later they started working correctly all but were still filled with coffe every time i gripped it.

Hello all , I have a story to tell and I am in need of guidance. Lately my gf's Lenovo Extreme X1 started to freeze once a day and I was getting tired of it. I suspected it was because a few days prior, the laptop received a splash of water on its cover (It was turned off at the time but was turned on during the same day). After that accident, we didn't use it for a few days to make sure it was fully dry (Except the one time it was turned on). Now back to today, I decided to open up the cover to check it out, to see if with my eyeballs could spot a water damaged component. It was really clean but there was some weird blue white stuff on one of the connector. By experience, I knew it was the LCD screen flex connector so right away I suspected that it was the cause of the problem. So I took a Q-tip and my botlle of 99% isopropyl alcohol and started cleaning up the the connector. I plugged back after a 1 minute waiting period and turned on back on. At my surprise, the screen was dim but VERY dim. I turned off and on the laptop again, still the same result. I started to wonder what was wrong. After a google search on this model, I found out that I need to disable the bactery in the BIOS. As I was writing this post, now the laptop won't turn on at all, the charging light is not showing! I am so dumb I should I have check the disassembly guide (I always check it, I don't know why today I am being cocky) (Disassembly guide www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vvLexQZUos) I need help! Any advice?

Hey everyone! I have an issue that I am hoping I can get some insight/advice on. I recently purchased a 2080 ti hydro copper second hand. The card landed today and upon opening the package I saw there was water in the box. Closer inspection revealed water had leaked from the outlet ports not being tightened down properly and the water has worked it way onto, and throughout the pcb. I don’t want to ask for a return/refund if there is nothing wrong and I can do my part in drying it thoroughly although, I’m at hesitant to take the block off, and clean the pcb with alcohol, as I believe the responsibility would fall on me at that point. I do believe it was an honest mistake and the seller has been very responsive and apologetic. While I believe it is not my problem per say, I do consider refunds a last resort as they aren’t fun for anybody. I can’t say why the seller sent the card without blowing the water out and allowing it to dry, that was careless imo. Would a thorough drying remedy the situation? Is it safer to not risk it? Can I reliably dry the card without taking the block off? I am posting here in the hopes that some of you may be able to provide some insight/advice on how to handle this. I want to do the right thing but I’m not exactly sure what that would be. Thank you in advance for any help. Any response is welcome constructive or otherwise. If I’m making a big deal out of nothing let me know. I won’t be upset for being corrected!

my laptop (Asus ROG Strix G GL531GU) won't boot now, it was on lock screen it freezed, showed me the error " your PC ran into a problem and we will restart it for you " and then it showed the ROG logo but never restarted, the keyboard started flashing red light and that's it, no other response. I tried to hard restart it (pressing the power button for 30 secs) but it didn't work. My laptop is under warranty so the first thing i did was visit the service center, submitted my laptop. I got a call from them on the next day saying that your laptop has corroded from inside, it is water damaged and its not covered under warranty. I know for sure that there was no water damage to the laptop at all. I remember my laptop heat sink turned black, they were all copper and shiny when the laptop was new but overtime in 8 months it turned black and that what the service center guy is calling corrosion. I looked up on the internet and found that it must be some bios issue (bcz of keyboard flashing) how should i make them understand this? they are just trying to blame me for water damage rather than accepting the issue. According to me there is no way that laptop shows " PC ran into a problem error " if its water damage or corrosion issue. And i suppose heat sink turning black is pretty common. Link to ROG forum whih the heatsink turned black thread " https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?55875-Copper-Heat-sink-Turns-Black!!!-G751 "

I recently accidentally brought my iPhone 6s in the bathroom while showering and water got dropped on the display (it wasn't fully submerged or fully covered it was mostly on the lower half of the screen and the home button). Ever since, audio has been laggy even with AirPods and wired earbuds, my home button doesn't register anything when I click it, but weirdly Touch ID has had no problems. I read on iFixit that you should check the water damage indicator in the sim tray slot and I did but it's white, indicating that there's no water damage (at least that got to the sim slot). My home button will sometimes start working for like 2 minutes but will stop. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help

I dripped some water on the lower portion of my iPhone 6s and the home button is now non functional. On the lock screen it says “Unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone” and clicking the home button doesn’t do anything. Is there an easy fix to this? I’ve already tried restarting my phone, powering it off and cleaning the home button with q-tips (this actually made the home button function for about a minute after restarting but didn’t fix Touch ID), and tapping it against a towel to try and get water out if there’s any inside. Please Help!

Hello guys. 3 Days ago I left home to spend the weekend on my parents'. Left the window to my room open where sits my desk and my computer, right by the window, I came back on Sunday morning after a stormy Saturday night to find the desk on my room drenched with water, my computer was ON with the fans spinning wildly like it was about to take off, I saw it all wet and I immediately unplugged off the wall as if expecting I could still save it. I opened it and the components inside were filled with droplets of water, the GPU, motherboard, CPU fan, drops of water everywhere, the PSU which sits on the lower part had the most water, with a small pool formed on the bottom right by the PSU. "This computer is dead". so I thought. I knew there wasn't much I could do so I disassembled it, part by part, and left it out to dry by a heater. Then comes next day, after a hard day's work came back home and I assembled everything, tried to power on and the fans take off, the GPU sounded like it was trying to fly away to mars with that speed, got scared and tried to power on again a few times, no signal on monitor, no lights, just fans spinning out of control. That's where I came to the conclusion this computer is done for. So 3 days later, today, I decided to cool down and get technical on this, I'll try to diagnose which component is not working anymore, that is, if everything isn't dead by now. So without removing or doing anything I power on the PC, and fans are normal, monitor shows signal, it boots to desktop, like nothing ever happened. I'm there mind struck and I start messing around with it and how everything is normal, gaming is normal, everything is working as if this PC has never ben drenched with water after leaving by the window on a stormy night. What happened here? How did the computer survive? Are computer hardware that strong nowadays? My mind is blown off.

Hi, I have an issue with my laptop screen that started today; It's very noticeable with bright colors and most noticeable in pure white. The upper third of the screen and a patch on the bottom-left side are dimmer than the rest. (See attached pic) I'm not sure what caused this, my brother said he might've put a slightly wet towel over the screen earlier when the laptop was turned off. It wasn't like soaking wet, just damp. But then if this is a case of water damage, how come the screen still functions at all? I tried 10 seconds with the hairdryer pointed at the screen, didn't want to damage the panel but that had no effects. Also pushing on it does nothing, neither does the "flex test". Anyways I would appreciate any input on this. If anyone has experienced this before and maybe has a solution to hopefully fix it, I would be very grateful. Thank you. Laptop: Acer Aspire 5 2019 - 15,6" 1080p IPS Matt Panel. (I edited the picture to match what I see irl so that's a pretty good representation of the problem, no exaggerations)

Hello. Let me give some context. Recently spilled water right into the top of my PC, causing it to immediately turn off. I unplugged it, let it sit in the open for a day, and turned it back on. It was working fine except for my ethernet port, which I fixed by getting ethernet to usb. It worked for probably 3 days, and then randomly shut off. Since then, I have not gotten it to make a sound, turn on a light, or start fans. No sign of life. I have tried a new PSU and a new motherboard, every combination of single ram stick with different slots, no sign of life. I just now realized that my new motherboard is the MSI B450M Pro-M2 Max, as opposed to the non-max version. I couldn't see a difference so I looked at the specs and supported RAM speeds are all higher than the non-max version. My RAM is 2400hz, which is not listed in the compatible speeds for this new motherboard. My question is will RAM being slower than the listed compatible speeds cause the PC to not post or start any noise/light/fan whatsoever? I need to be certain of the problem before ordering new stuff because I am a poor student and can't afford the risk of wasting more money because I'm already $140 down from wrong guesses. Any help would be really appreciated. It's been out of commission for about 2 weeks, and because literally all of my responsibilities require that computer working, I have been out of commission for 2 weeks and my boss, my teachers, and my research group are getting frustrated. Rant over. Any ideas?

So I really screwed up last night. I accidentally spilled a beer on my predador 17. And now it doesn't power up. I have taken the panel off, and have cleaned it up. Would it be worth me getting it repaired or just getting a replacement? I love the damn thing. I am so disappointed in myself. I don't really have that much money to get a replacement. I would have to put it on the credit card. Anyone willing to help me repair it. I think it would be a interesting project for me and who ever is involved. Please help. I am so sad. Been like a day since I got my s9, was on a heavy Gaming session that got my phone hot, so afterwards I thought that "oh yeah this phone's waterproof" so put it in a room temperature mug of water vertically with water level just covering the top of the phone. The screen was on, chroma started on its own, after being in the water for 5-8seconds I took it out and placed it on my bed. Then realized screen was off, pressed power button, realized phone itself was off. I long pressed the power button to turn it on but nothing's working. I opened the Sim tray and checked the Liquid Damage Indicator but I should be safe as thats white with red x patterns. The phones been set aside for an hour and I currently see moisture in the back camera, flash and heart rate sensor. I'm scared to try to charge it as I think it might further damage it. I riced it for 16hrs plugged it in, it was charging till 100% used it a bit, ran Antutu Benchmark was fine and everything. Then I turned off the screen and noticed the Always on display not showing, I unlocked it with the fingerprint even heard the sound but screen was blank, pressed power button heard the sound unlocked with iris scanner heard unlock sound, got messenger notification sounds aswell. After a few mins picked it up again was pressing buttons and trying the screen was on but at minimal brightness with a warm tone, I thought I set the bluelight filter so went to turn it off but it wasnt on, brightness was also at medium according to the slider, changed it but it didnt affect the screen, then the screen suddenly turned up in brightness with faded colors, then again jumped back to the lower brightness warm tone with a flicker then went blank and unresponsive again. What do I do?

I have a dell optiplex 980 i7 that I wanted to convert into a gaming pc. I took it apart outside and spray painted everything black and left everything out to dry. The next day I woke up with my psu sitting in 3 inches of water because the water sprinklers unknowingly went off. So is my psu dead? If so I can’t just replace it for $20 because the motherboard connector is specifically for dell. That would mean I would have to buy a whole another $500 computer. Which I can’t afford because I’m only 12. I heard other people saying that if it has power going through it, it is fryed but if it’s off it just needs to dry. I didn’t have power connected to it, it was completely disconnected. Will it work or is it fryed and what should I do? I can’t really afford to buy a whole another computer.

I've got an open air case and my neighbor's cat peed on it. The PC was turned on as I was copying files. It doesn't boot nor beeps (after drying for 3 days),but my GPU still has display when tested on a friend's rig. I got a new motherboard and PSU but still nothing. The fans would spin for a sec then turn off-- no post, no beeps. I can't test my CPU on friend's rig as we have diferent sockets. Could that damned cat pee shorted my mobo killed my CPU but not my GPU? Most of it was on my GPU and PCIe x16.

My dad uses a secondhand WoW mouse for work. He uses the buttons for their programmable macros. He brought it home a couple days ago because it stopped working (not during use, he showed up and it was broken) and I know a lot more about electronics than he does. I popped it open and found some mild corrosion buildup, which I removed to the best of by ability with a small, dry paintbrush. The cable itself is fine (I broke out a multi meter and tested for continuity across it on all the channels). Any advice? If I can't fix it, any recommendations for a replacement mouse? he uses all 14 buttons on a daily basis and wishes there was more of them. What windows gives me Back of PCB:

Alright I have a lot of back story, but the current problem is this; When I turn my computer on the LED and fans turn on (everything is normal), but none of my 2 displays recognize the computer. Even without the GPU it gives me the same result. On my motherboard when I boot, my debug LEDs react as following (CPU LED lights on and turn off, DRAM LED lights on and turn off, the VGA and BOOT LEDs do not react, with or without my GPU installed. To try and fix this I reset the CMOS, the method I used was to remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for about 5-10 minutes. When I booted after performing the CMOS reset the result I got from a boot without my GPU was the same as the former. However, when I re-installed my GPU after resetting the CMOS my boot was as follows, my computer posted and a message telling me my BIOS settings were reset. I ran the setup to enable the XMP profile for my RAM. Once I left the BIOS it began the "Automatic Repair" (Because I did a lot of force shutdowns because my computer wouldn't POST. It started the "Automatic Repair" but it froze on "Preparing Automatic Repair" (It was not a "loop", the dots that are supposed to be turning weren't there). I left it on that screen for about 5-10 minutes, nothing happened. After waiting, I force shutdown and that's where I am today. It's very random when it decides to POST then freeze or to simply not POST. Time for everything that led to that situation because I believe it will help a lot with answers to my problem. To begin, my case has an exposed top (like it has holes for air circulation), and about a week ago I dropped about 50ml (1.7 oz) in my computer through the top. When this happened I was in the middle of a game, my computer instantly blue screened (I am sorry I didn't take a pic or read the error message) and it took about 10-15 seconds for me to react and remove the power from the computer. I proceeded to try and dry my GPU the most I could. The PCB seemed to have caught most of it, but it was dripping a bit when I turned over. That night I laid it on a towel and let it dry overnight. Because of how the computer was orientated the water touched the CPU heatsink/fan, the GPU and the PSU. I figured that the water wouldn't affect the PSU nor the CPU because it didn't get in anywhere important (ie: On the unexposed part of the PSU and the fan blades of the CPU fan). The next morning I didn't put my GPU back in right away I was waiting for my friend to give me a second opinion on what to do next (I wanted to try and clean it). Now my memory is a bit hazy but I am 90% sure that the morning after the incident the computer was working normally without the GPU (I was using integrated graphics and it was working). My friend agreed and recommend I should remove the PCB and try to clean it with q-tips and 70% isopropyl alcohol. I did and let it dry for about an hour or two before putting it back in. Once putting the GPU back in after cleaning it started to work. About 30 minutes after the computer running the computer froze, no error message or nothing. Nothing was responding, my screens were just frozen. After about two minutes I forced shutdown and was no longer POST with or without my GPU. I let it dry overnight once more and the next morning I decide to try again. It booted properly with my GPU and my computer was working fine. I had about 3-4 days where it worked perfectly. On the fifth night about the same freeze as happened prior occurred and when I went to re-boot my computer, it no longer POST. The day before resetting the CMOS I ordered and received a new PSU that I tested and nothing change. Specs: GPU: GTX 980 Ti EVGA CPU: i7 7700k RAM: DDR4 Corsair 8GB x2 MOBO: Z270-A Pro MSI PSU: 650W Corsair Storage: 1 SSD (OS Only) 3 HDD (Games, Programs and Storage) Things I tried: 1: Cleaning GPU with alcohol 2: Remove GPU (Integrated Graphics) 3: Re-seating RAM 4: New PSU (Same Wattage) 5: Resetting CMOS 6: Booting only with my SSD 7: Booting with a USB (Windows Media Creation Tool) TL;DR Spilled water on GPU while playing a game, blue screen and quickly unplugged computer. Next day I cleaned the GPU with isopropyl alcohol and later worked for about 30 minutes before my computer froze (Had to force shutdown). The next day I tried again and it worked perfectly for about 3-4 days then it froze again. After that point I've not been able to POST or if I do manage to POST it freezes (Not a loading loop). Any suggestion or help would very much be appreciated. (I am prepared for the worst ?)
