So I'm looking to use the output from my sound card to "drive" a graphic equaliser I'll be making. I have the circuitry for the equaliser sorted, but I have a problem. I'm using an Asus Xonar DGX sound card. All measurements taken with a 1KHz tone playing through the output V+ on the op amp: +12VDC, as expected, but also 26VAC wrt ground V- on the op amp: not really accessible, but I'ma keep trying Pin 1 & 2 on op amp: 0VDC, 0VAC wrt ground Pin 3 on op amp: -10mVDC, 0VAC wrt ground All headphone jack pins: 0VDC, 0VAC wrt ground Pin 1 (output) wrt pin 3 (non-inverting input): 20mVDC, 0VAC I only have a multimeter, no scope, and I'm measuring off of the solder connection on the back of the card to the 3.5mm headphone jack. If anyone has any useful information, I'd very much appreciate it (I've been trying to find something on Google for ages now). Thanks in advance

I was just curious, how many of you can actually tell the difference between onboard audio and a dedicated soundcard? I have noticed that my headphones are very quiet when plugged into my rear panel audio, maybe a sound card would fix this as well as improve sound quality?
-
Hello, I have a sound blaster z 5.1 sound card and I just purchased Logitech's z506 5.1 surround sound. I am hooking it up with analog via the 3.5 mm audio cables. I have connected every combination there is and I still cannot get rear audio. I have uninstalled on board drivers and software and have even disabled onboard from the bios. I have the latest creative sound drivers. I have even downloaded 5.1 audio test files and still no audio from the rear speakers. Any help would be grateful.

I got an E10 and loved it until it broke, I sent it back to Amazon and got a refund. I'm willing to spend a little bit more this time. Sound quality is my main concern, should I get the upgrade in FiiO's line from the E10 or get something else around $100? I don't mind a sound card, but my Sound Blaster Z sounds terrible in my opinion compared to the E10. My laptop onboard sounds better, no joke. I'm driving a pair of Sennheiser HD 558s as well.

Well it's that time, going to spend some money updating/upgrading my last computer build to increase my gaming immersion and performance. Will also start doing some amateur video capture, editing and posting on Youtube. I need to find a good audio solution to help enhance my overall gaming experience. Surround sound is important but not the most important. I'm looking more for ease of use and comfort during long gaming sessions (typically MMO gaming and long duration FPS gaming on TF2/BF4, also FSX). Audio quality and realism is also essential up to my budget. My audio budget: $250.00 USD (headset/mic/sound card/etc., max) I am also currently using a Corsair Vengeance 1500 for my audio and I've had it for more than year, and I want something new and refreshing, will move this headset to my laptop. Current PC Specifications: Intel 3770k @ 4.2GHZ (overclocking to ~4.5GHZ on update, water-cooled) MSI M Power MOBO 8GB Corsair Dominator Platinum @ 1866MHZ, CL9 (Intel XMP enabled, increasing to 16 GB @ same settings on update) MSI GTX 680 @ Stock Settings (will overclock slightly and update drivers, using current drivers as of this post) Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM (1TB/disk model, adding another 1TB HDD for media or gaming files) 750W Corsair PSU Asus 23" HD LED Monitor (playing at 1080p w/HDMI) I'm also an avid Logitech fan boy, G710+ and G700s for gaming (w/Corsair mouse pad). Please help with suggestions, thanks!

Hello everyone. I recently got myself Sennheiser HD 518 and I was wondering whether It is worth getting a cheap sound card for it (something like ASUS Xonar DG). And if it is worth it would my motherboard be compatible with it? I got MSI H87M-E33. Thanks in advance!

Hi my name is Evan and i have been deciding on getting a new microphone for quite some time now. ive made my decision on what mic i should get and its Audio-Technica AT2035 (Link :http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002T45X1G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=11QW3DG75U2TH&coliid=I1FC6C2SDDV92S) Its an Xlr Mic and now i need to make my decision on how i would get the sound from my microphone to my computer. I know about Audio interfaces and Audio mixer so ive done a small amount of study on the topic. My first question is Which one of the two i should get Audio interface or a Mixer and why? Which of the the two would i get good sound quality from? Should i get a mixer with or without a usb port? Are usb Port better or worst then the other way? If i get a Mixer without a usb port do i need a sound card or can i use the on board sound from my MOBO? Which sound card should i get? (ASUS Sabertooth Z87) And Finally What type of power do i need for this mic? Here are some of the mixers/interfaces ive been looking at : 1. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005OZE9SA/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=11QW3DG75U2TH&coliid=IGJRDSM9LW7D4 2.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000J5UEGQ/ref=s9_simh_gw_p267_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-7&pf_rd_r=1G75XNK9XNTSC9XS0QXQ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200482&pf_rd_i=507846 3.http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-302USB-Premium-5-Input-Interface/dp/B005EHILV4/ref=pd_cp_MI_3 4.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132010&cm_re=audio_card-_-29-132-010-_-Product 5.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006&cm_re=audio_card-_-29-132-006-_-Product 6.http://www.amazon.com/Mackie-402VLZ4-4-channel-Compact-Quality/dp/B00EDRUQXC/ref=sr_1_12?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1406684791&sr=1-12&keywords=mixer Thats pretty much it . My price ranges very a bit interms of the porduct. For example for Mixer and Interfaces im willing to pay a bit over $100.. but for the Sound cards just about a bit over $80. Also if im going to get either and audio interface or Mixer i only need one Mic Port because its for my room so no giant Mixers please. Thanks you to everyone who actually read all of this.. this is a Decision that ive been trying to make and i would really appreciate your input on the matter. THANKS AGAIN !

First of all I want to introduce myself in short because this is my first post on this forum. Well here it goes: Hello boys and girls I'm Sumeet (real life name) I'm 23 years old and live in The Netherlands. In my spare time I go to the gym and game on my computer I also watch linustechtips on youtube OK now for my question I'm searching for a good sound card which can power my current Sennheiser pc360 for gaming. I maybe want to buy a better headphone(AD700x or better?) with a external mic (like the modmic) so my sound card needs to be "future proof". The sound card also needs to provide the headphone a good 5.1 or 7.1 positional audio (cmss-3d, Dolby Headphone etc.) I actually don't like the Dolby Headphone so that's why I didn't pick a card from Asus, but if they got a other technique please suggest the card, so I can have a look at it. the sound cards I'm currently looking at are the : [Creative Sound Blaster Z: € 72,-] [Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD € 149,-] + external amp (Not sure if I need an amp, and if I do please suggest one). I really hope you you guys can help me

Hello, Just picked myself up an Asus Xonar Essence STX to finish off a rig I've been adding to steadily over the first half of the year! Here's most of the parts list: Intel 3570k Corsair H80i CPU cooler Corsair CX600 Power Supply MSI Mpower Motherboard 2x EVGA Nvidia 660 in SLI Asus Xonar Essence STX So once I had everything installed this was the configuration I had: So basically the 2 graphics cards and the sound card occupy the PCI-E Gen 3 slots on the board, with a small wireless card in the top 1x slot. Once I got into the operating system I noticed I was unable to activate SLI or configure a surround setup. I tried reinstalling drivers, reseating the hardware and after checking device manager I could see that both cards were being recognised. But I was still unable to activate SLI. After some more mucking around I discovered that as long as I left the bottom PCI-E gen 3 slot unoccupied I could use sli and surround wioth no problems. So I moved the soundcard into the top slot and removed the wireless card completely. Leaving what I have now: So my question is: Is there anyway to get SLI / Surround working while having the lower most slot occupied? It's not much of a problem I'm more curious if anything, also I think it looked neater before I had to change everything round. Thanks a lot.

Ok, so I have had a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series for around 2 years now running in my main gaming system. Then one day, Inexplicably, the speaker let out a soft pop without any audio load, the "X-Fi" light went out on the side and audio was no more. I tried reinstalling drivers, letting windows 7 update install drivers, and reseating it in the slot/trying a different slot. It is running logitech X-530 5.1 speakers with all of the jack plugged in (analog) but software configured to 2.1. It is also in an ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard. There was something peculiar when I tried putting it into another system though... I put it into my media PC with an MSI Z87M-G43 and plugged in the optical cable going from the card to my Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver. Without any drivers installed it worked in 2.0 mode! I am 100% sure that it was coming from the soundcard because the only audio cable plugged into the PC was in the X-Fi card. The HDMI audio from the GTX 650 Ti Boost was disabled in the nVidia control panel, i'm certain. As of now, the card is recognized as "High Definition Audio Device", in my experiences, a very generic name, lol. I then ran windows update which installed drivers for Creative X-Fi Audio Device - WDM. After restarting, the card did not work. It was showing up as "Creative SB X-Fi", and the drivers had been installed. The weird thing is that, although device manager detected the card as "Creative SB X-Fi", when I tried to launch the Creative Audio Control Panel, it said something to the effect of, "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit." At this point the light on the side of the card still wasn't on (and hadn't been since it "died" in my main machine. When I went to test the audio device in Control Panel-->Hardware and Sound-->Sound, the green bar showed that the test audio was playing, but nothing was coming out of the speakers. When I went into the SPDIF out-->Properties-->Advanced and tried to change the Default format from "2 Channel, 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)" to "2 Channel, 24 bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality", it would change, but when I pressed "Test" to the right of the selection box, a window popped up saying, "Failed to Play Test Tone." This worked before I installed the drivers. The only two options that come up in the Control Panel-->Hardware and Sound-->Sound-->Playback menu are SPDIF out - Creative SB X-Fi - Default Device, Internal AUX Jack - Creative SB X-Fi - Disabled, and then all of the nVidia disabled audio options. On the recording side of things, there is Digital-In - Creative SB X-Fi - Default Device, "What U Hear" - Creative SB X-Fi - Disabled, Microphone FP - Creative SB X-Fi - Disabled-unplugged, and Line-In - Creative SB X-Fi - Disabled-unplugged. I really don't know what else to do! I am sorry to bombard whoever is reading this with a bloody book, but it is how it is. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

So just a month ago i bought this headset. after using it for this length of time i have tried everything. 2 speakers/4 speakers/5.1/7.1. all of it to no avail. i bought the headset for playing counter-strike at a fairly high level and i need it to perform for positional audio. the only way i can use it for positional audio is if i plug it into my PC and use it as a stereo headset. but when i do this the audio quality is very poor. so i was wondering whether i should just discard the USB sound card that it came with and buy an internal sound card and use it that way. and help appreciated on what i should do. thanks Also if anyone could recommend me a sound card for around the $30-50 price range that is optimized for positional audio i would be very grateful.

I am new to this forum so hello everyone. I just purchased a Sennheiser 320 and a Creative sound blaster Z sound card. My on board audio (Realteck ALC892) sounds just as accurate as the sound card. While the sound card does make everything stand out just a little bit more it is hardly noticeable. I have tried it on some cheap 2.1 speakers and a number of headsets, the nicest of which being the Sennheisers. It seems like if I messed around with windows equalizer I would end up with the same result. The sound card does make the output louder by far. Also another weird thing is if you go into audio options and right click on the sound card speakers output the max sample rate is 24 bit, 96 khz while if you do the same thing for the onboard it is 24 bit, 192 khz. The sound positioning between the two are almost the same too. Anyways my question is am I doing something wrong for the $120 sound card to sound practically the same as the onboard? Btw my hearing isn't bad I'm young and can hear pretty good detail. Thanks for the info in advance.

http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-XFi-Titanium-PCI/M/B001E25KDK.htm I've been using this creative sound card for a few years now, and I'm looking for an excuse to get rid of it (I'm fed up with software problems). I'd still have to imagine that it floors any integrated solution(?) so what would be a suitable replacement? I currently use it with a stereo receiver which unfortunately doesn't support any digital/optical input, but the analog audio sounds good enough to me.

First of all, I'm new to the high end PC audio scene so I'll probably get some of the jargon wrong. After looking around, I've seen recommendations and good reviews of the Sennheiser PC-360 as a good quality headset (I want a headset for the convenience of the mic). Deciding on that was relatively easy, however choosing a sound card has been proving difficult. I've heard contradicting information such as Linus saying you should spend as much money on a sound card as you can; compared to others who say you should buy a low end sound card for such headphones due to the low impedance (50 Ohms); and others saying that onboard audio would be fine... I have a Gigabyte Z77-D3H which is fairly low end and don't see the point of buying a good set of cans for use with a bad quality source. The sticky FAQ in this forum suggests that the ASUS Xonar cards have a fairly high output impedance of 10 Ohms and goes on to say that your headphones should have at least 8 times that impedance. I would like to get a product such as the Xonar DGX because it is fairly cheap and is basically plug and play but would that high output impedance make it a bad choice for the PC-360? My main purpose for this will be gaming so I want a card with Dolby Surround. My budget is preferably less than $100.

Well I am assuming since you clicked on the post you know what I'm about to ask. Do I need a dedicated a sound card? My sound board is the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z. Would a dedicated sound card improve the quality of my audio or is the on-board good enough? Leave examples of good sound cards if you think I need one.

I'm looking to upgrade my current Corsair TX750 v2 750W PSU due to it being non-modular and its multi-rail design and pretty loud fan (loudest in my system at idle). I'm looking for a fully modular semi-passive 80+ Gold or Platinum PSU. I have seen that both Seasonic and XFX have these units and that they pretty much use the same design. I'm going for maximum silence with this build. System specs: Core i5 2500K @ 4.5GHz MSI Z77A-GD55 ASUS GTX 780 ASUS Xonar DX sound card Crucial m4 SSD + 2 7200RPM HDDs PCI-e LAN card PCI-e WLAN/Bluetooth card DVD+-RW drive I'm also looking to possibly upgrade to GTX 780 SLI later on when the priced drop. So what wattage should I be looking for, 850W, 1000W? And do any of you have experiences with either XFX's or Seasonic's semi-passive 80+ Gold and/or Platinum PSUs? Which one should I go for or are there some other choices?

I'm looking to get a set of headphones or a headset with a sound card for under $200 (USD). I want something that will both be good for gaming, music listening, and occasional movies. Really just an all-around general use headphone. I'm not looking for ear buds and either open or closed will work. Most of the music I listen to is electronic, dubstep, drum and bass. A mic would be nice to have but not necessary. Along with the headphones I want to get a sound card that would be good to pair with the headphones. What I'm thinking now is Steelseries 7H and an Asus Xonar DX. I know that Linus himself recommends the 7H. I do want something that will last. I've read reviews of the 7H breaking after a year or so and I want something that will survive everyday use. I'll probably use them elsewhere other than just my PC since I'm going off to college in a year. Oh, and I would prefer that the connector be 3.5 mm. Thanks!
