A share button could be especially useful in certain areas of the site. I know in a lot of places you can just copy the link to the thread, but it could be especially useful mainly in status updates where you can't always get a specific link to the status update.

I'm looking for recommendations for what is best to set up to access my data remotely from Truenas core From my research so far I see others using options such as: ZeroTeir NextCloud Wireguard Tailscale What is best to set up, affordable pricing, ease of set up, a good mobile app etc I also see that something like Tailscale might be better with Truenas Scale using Truecharts

So, im getting fed up with doing random shit to send text (usually links, usernames, emails, etc.) To myself from my phone to laptop and the other way around. Does anyone know of something that ideally will make is super simple to copy things back and forth. I really dont want to use microsoft's your phone thing. Ideally i would be able to select text on my phone and hit share and be able to send it to a device's (or all devices') clipboard(s). And similarly with windows i want to either have a key combo or be able to right click selected text and say send to x device. Ive tried Alt-C and this works great for sending from windows to android but not the other way because of Android 10's restrictions on apps reading the clipboard (only when they are in the foreground). Chrome (and vivaldi) have support for sending tabs to devices and this works mostly but i need something that does more than just tabs. Any ideas?

I just did a fresh install of windows 10 on my old PC as I was having a lot of strange issues with windows recognizing certain drives and registry errors and so on. On my previous install I had my 12tb media HDD shared over the network publicly so anyone on the network could see the folder and add to it, or watch TV shows and Movies from there if the didn't feel like using the Plex server. On my fresh install of windows I am having difficulty getting my folder publicly shared again. I am unable to access it without being prompted for user account info to this PC. These are my current share settings. When I first tried to share the folder I had difficulty with permissions as this drive thought my old user account on my old windows installation was still the owner, so I changed the ownership in advanced security settings to myself, and added "everyone" as a principle with full control, including folders, subfolders, and files. In order to rule this out as still being an issue I tried sharing a freshly formatted drive on the network and still was unable to access it. Here are my network settings: I also have turned my firewall off to ensure that is not an issue for some reason. From the server I can go to the network tab in explorer, and then my computer, and see the folder that I have shared. However when I go to connect from another device I am required to input a username and password which is what I am trying to avoid. I just want the drive to be public and anyone on the local network to have access to it. Thanks to whoever takes the time to read this.

Hi everyone I just got a 4k projector that I plan to set it up in my living room, I also have a semi beasty desktop in my home office and a HTC Vive. Is there a practical way to utilize this desktop in my Livingroom (without moving it)? I want to utilize the HVC vive in the Livingroom along with the projector for guests watchers. My home office desktop would have no issue powering a setup like this but I want to somehow utilize this without moving the hole desktop in to the livingroom, is there a good solution out there that I have not considered? If not, I will need to consider just getting another beasty desktop that will act as my media station/ Livingroom gaming station. Any ideas anyone?

Just a quick question, because I seem to be to stupid to figure this out by myself or find anything useful on the internet about this. Following situation: - I have a folder that I would like to share to the network on my Win10 machine. - I have a Win7 machine in the same network that needs to access this folder. - I want to give writing permissions of this folder only to a specified account on the Win7 machine and not for "Everyone" (as I could do, but don't want to). - But when I try to add the Win7 account to the sharing permissions on my Win10 folder, it just tells me that it can not find this account. (Neither with "\\Win7Domain\User" or "User@Win7Domain") - And if I try to find the user with the built-in windows search, it only finds the accounts on my Win10 Machine, because I am unable to change the search path to my Win7 Domain. So... How do I do this? How do I tell it to give permissions to a user on another machine? Sorry if this is a bit confusing. I can add screenshots if any of you would like to have some to better understand what I'm actually talking about. Thanks in advance!

The title pretty much says it. I've searched the internet high and low for something that would allow me to send a file from my OnePlus 6 to an iPhone as seamlessly as possible. Most of my friends use iPhones and I've been looking for a way to be able to send files to them without having each and every one of them install an app. I know about Zapya and SHAREit, but that would mean every person I want to send something to having to install that app. Whatsapp butchers image quality for photos and email is just clunky and pretty impractical for large transfers. What I'm looking for is (and I am not sure if this is possible, given Apple's closed ecosystem) some app that would let me share a file so that it would appear to the iPhone user as an AirDrop share. Having it work the other way around (emulating AirDrop in a way that would let iPhone users send files to me through AirDrop) would be a nice bonus, but not a necessity). Are any of you guys aware of an app that does this? I don't need it to be pretty, I just need it to do the job. Thanks in advance, Vlad

Hey guys, I'm learning how to setup a network sharing. I would like the share some files between my desktop and iPhone. Is there any good tutorials on how to set it up? I always get stuck when they ask for the "desktop username and password" but I do not have any password setup on my desktop and don't know what's my username. Im on Windows 8 and hate linking email to login on my own personal desktop

Can I share my file with my friends through internet without uploading them. I mean, I want to share my games and movies by creating a link with which my friend can download it directly from my HDD.

Ever since the gtx460 I've found my self selling sooner to fund the next one. Sell the 460 and get the 560ti 560ti - to 660 (didn't keep that one long) 660-760 760- 970 970 - 1070 (that hurt as it cost me 100 more than the other replacements) (always MSI for some reason) So I got a 1070 for £350 (£200 in actual outlay) about 18mnths ago The rtx 2070... The 2nd hand value of a 1070 and the new cost of a 2070(AIB not founder) I can see that as 300+ actual outlay. I've had such a good run of what I think has been very cost effective performance enjoyment. I think its over. Nvidia is a fkn nightmare

OK let me start by saying I've had this problem ever since windows removed home group sharing a couple months ago. i have read days worth of forums trying to figure this out and i final decided to ask for help. Before the windows up date i could share a file from my movie server (movie server has:1 ssd boot drive &1 hdd movie storage) to my smart tv, where i was able to select the pc and view my movies. Now when i select the movie server from the tv it says no content found. I should mention the i am able to access the Movie server from any other lan of wireless pc in the house but both the tv and the smart blue ray player on the other tv are unable to see any movies or folders yes all of my advance sharing option are on, except the the password is turned off and the tv has permission under Control Panel → Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center → Media Streaming Option I've tried reinstalling windows, had to re set up all the sharing options and that didn't fix anything. Then i tried copy a movie from the server to my person pc and share the movie from there. Once I turned the sharing options on the tv could see my person pc but it also was not able to the movie there either. The TV also is using cat6 so its not a wifi problem either wanted to pointed out that when i select network on my personal pc both computers show up but when i select network on my movie server nothing shows up. (You can view both pc as a media devices but that opens windows media player) any help would be amazing

Once again the almighty computer deities have blessed me with a computer issue I cant figure out and once again I turn to their most devout followers for guidance. I have the following network adapters in PowerShell: 6 Intel (R) 82579V.... (set as private) 23 PureVPN (set as public) 1 Software Loopback Interface 1 I cant share anything on local network, other computers can ping me, all sharing settings are what they should be, but when I try to share a folder my computer prompts me that I have disabled sharing on public adapters and I need to either enable them or change adapter to private. As a test I clicked change to private, and it changed my PureVPN adapter to private. I've tried uninstalling drivers and PureVPN program, I've uninstalled old drivers and done pretty much everything I can think of to fix this, but if I use something like Firefox it seems to use the Intel adapter like its supposed to, the issue only seems to occur with Windows' own programs. Any ideas on how I might fix this?

Where to start, The new update is bricking some computers and pretty much rotting everyone's home and small business networks. Mine included!! The update is removing homegroup (an easy way to set up file sharing and networks) among some other changes that can be seen here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/planning/windows-10-1803-removed-features Although i din't use homegroup i was rendered incapable of being able to access and share my drives and files from PC to PC. The update made all of my PCs undiscoverable in the network tab in file explorer and even when i found a way to fix that, i was unable to gain access to said PCs, folders, and drives (even from the computer the files are stored on) through the network window. I am unable to map to them, the options in the network and sharing center seem to be just rhetorical now, and after individually going to drives, folders, files and changing sharing settings to full access for "everyone", and doing the same in network ad sharing center I am still unable to access my files from the network. Microsoft is trying to push the use of their cloud service through this update. The update has bricked a number of computers https://www.windowslatest.com/2018/05/24/windows-10-april-2018-update-bricks-pcs-and-microsoft-shares-workaround/ Microsoft has said " Instead of using HomeGroup, you can now share printers, files and folders by using features that are built into Windows 10" but this simply isn't true until i can find a fix that doesn't mean using the cloud or email.. yeah email is one of their other options. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027674/windows-10-share-files-in-file-explorer https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4092694/windows-10-changes-to-file-sharing-over-a-network The above links say that shared folders will still remain shared but that simply isn't true.. My entire computers were rendered not discoverable and the update changed all of my sharing settings, then on top of that made it impossible for me to restore my sharing capability even though i hadn't been using homegroup. i found some helpful links that guieded me through getting the PC to show up in network again, but still can't access shared folders and files even from the same PC. I have posted to a microsoft hosted forum asking for help and will update on fixes if i get any. forum post to follow Hello, I recently updated my home PCs with the 1803 windows update and am unable to access previously shared files and folders from computer to computer. I was not using a "homegroup" there was no need to use one, but after the update my settings in the network and sharing center seem to be there for no reason at all. I have tried mapping to each computer and the shared folders. I have tried resetting the networks, renaming the PCs and folders, and workgroups, changing the sharing settings, and have exhausted every option i could think to gain access to my folders from other computers. even when i map to a shared folder or drive i get the error code 0x80070035 and after troubleshooting, the problem found states "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection". How can microsoft just break every home and small business network? People aren't going to use the cloud service. Sharing folders and homegroups aren't outdated, Microsoft's tactics are.... i am very frustrated with this. I feel that i am fairly computer savvy but i am admittedly at a loss for solutions to this network bricking update. PLEASE HELP! I shouldn't be forced to upload my terabytes of data and files to a cloud service so i can access them from computer to computer. trying to work with HDR video that way is a nightmare!!! In the meantime i am asking for help here...

Hello, I got a WD HD TV Live Media Player and unfortunatelly I cannot see any content that is on my HDD. I got an SSD and for my data an HDD. When I put for example a movie on my SSD in the ´Video´ folder, the file is recognized by the WD HD TV. But the same file on the HDD cannot be found. I have shared the whole disk with ´erveryone´ to write and read. The folders which are needed to be shared are also shared for ´everyone´. Media sharing is ´ON´ and I removed the password protection from the network share option. Still I am unable to see any content from my HDD and every file on my SSD works fine. Is there anything I looked over? Is someone able to help me with this? Hope someone can give me some advice. Thanks!

Hey Linus Community, Let me preface this with what I got so far, I have an old PC that am using as my Storage/HTPC(Plex Server). 3770k CPU, GTX 650Ti OC, 32gb RAM... Many Hard drives in it, naturally... Only it is currently running on Windows 10 Pro, which recently got hit with the Artemis Virus which infected all existing executable files on it. Which was devastating... Now I want to completely shift it to Linux. Now what I want, as mentioned I want to convert the machine to Linux so it never gets infected again. Dunno which distro to use. I am considering Linux Mint (Cinnamon). Am new to Linux so I have no idea beyond installing. Also since I got so many hard drives in that machine dunno how to permanently share them with my main gaming PC running windows 10. I also want to set up Plex Media Server on it coz that's what am using now to watch my movies n tv shows on my nVidia Shield and Apple TV. Don't care about transcoding performance as I only Direct Stream within the house Locally. Please, can anyone help me here... The longer this takes the more files are getting infected

Hello all you awesome guys. Now I am planning on building a home server with unraid/freeNAS, router with pfSense and setting up a 10/40g lan, and I wonder if it's possible to use a connected to router/server monitor for output from local devices in net, like pc and more importantly android phone? It would be really cool for watching movies from bed and such stuff. Only solutions I can figure out: RDP software like TW, but i assume it's not too convenient fot this concrete scenario and won't work too fast on my pretty aged nexus 5; using chromecast or something alike, but it would add additional cost. Are there any other ways? Google says i want monitoring tools for lan and refuses to show anything related to my question.

Hello techies, I am a small business owner from Mumbai, India. I recently got an inquiry for an office setup. The Client has requested a setup where there is one PC/Server and 8 thin clients for the staff are connected to it. The usage is basic, office applications, web use & Autocad just for viewing files nothing heavy. Each of the 8 users must have a dual monitor config. So I was thinking of going for NComputing thin clients, but their dual monitor license thingy is expensive here and needs a special USB adapter which is not available in this country. So I need an alternative solution for this. I request anyone reading this to provide me with potential solutions/options. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. It means a lot! I can elaborate this further if needed. P.S. If possible, please chart a good server/pc config stating the components which would cater the coming 4-5 years. Thank you all!

I have unraid 6.4 with the most recent version of unassigned devices. I added a WD 1tb purple drive that I want to have shared but not part of the array. I installed the drive and it does display in the unassigned devices menu and is formatted to ntfs and i have enable auto-mount and share but I can still not see the share when I navigate to the tower on another computer. Is there something that I missed? I watch a video after messing with it for a while and they were able to do the exact same thing and have the drive show up on the network. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Does anyone have any experience with KVM switches and sharing mouse and keyboard between machines? I am setting up PC #3 soon and don't want to add a third keyboard and mouse to the desk. I have the gaming stuff, and the work stuff and the 3rd system will be more of the work stuff and can share those peripherals. Will a KVM switch do the job? Never used one. Thanks Gang.
