A bit off topic for this section of the forums, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to post. I have a decent laptop that's good for occasional gaming and is good as a mobile workstation. Problem is it never is mobile, I use it as a desktop. Since I live in a college town, I know I can get around $800-900 for this laptop. It's fairly new, runs Windows 8, Ivy Bridge, 8GB of RAM, Nvidia GT GPU. The problem is that my parents are keen on not letting me sell it. What are some good reasons you all can come up with that maybe I hadn't thought of to show that this route is ultimately the best way to go cost wise into the future? Thanks.

Hello, as I am getting a GeForce GTX 780 in the next few days, I am trying to sell my "old" graphics card. Asus GeForce GTX 680 4GB. It overclocks pretty well, and as said has got 4 GB of memory making it very attractive for use with high resolution displays. It comes packaged in the original box with all the accessories (manual, drivers disk, SOFT FOAM) and it is pretty much new, as it has been used for only 2 month. Here is a link to Asus' website showing all the specs of the card. Here is a link to the Overclocking Database showing some benchmarks and what the card is capable of. As new 4 GB 770's, which are basically what this card is when overclocked cost around 450€/500$, I would be happy if I could still get about 400€/450$ for it. Just though I throw this out to the community, before I put it on ebay. EDIT: I did not know that selling on this forum is not allowed. I am sorry. Please lock this thread.

Xbox One sets sights on 400m sold, Xbox 360 aims for 100m Microsoft has gone on record and say that they want to sell 400m Xbox One's and a total of 100m Xbox 360's of which currently 77m have been sold. This is possibly a very, very bad thing. In this topic I wont try to hate on the One's features like Xbox TV but I want to explain why 400m Xbox One's sold could be bad for the gaming industry. Firstly, Microsoft needs a miracle to sell an other 33m 360's. While some consoles remain very popular even after the announcement of their successor another 33m consoles is a lot. They will probably have to drop the price of the 360 way down to make it even remotely interesting. Secondly Microsoft aims to sell 400m Xbox One's. Now this could be very bad news for 2 reasons I think: 1) Microsoft wants to keep the Xbox One in the market longer than the Xbox 360 (the 360 will be in total 8-10 years on the market): This is the worst possible scenario. It has been proven that the Xbox One on launch will have the specs of a mid-range low-end pc. It isn't as powerful as an PS4. So the One is being put in the market while it is already behind current generation technology. This can lead to the One slowing down gaming technology like new image technology or that games will have lower res textures because the One can not handle high res textures. Now this wouldn't be a problem if the console had a lifespan of 2 years. Microsoft could then release a console with for that time current generation technology. But since the lifespan of the console will probably be as long if not longer than the Xbox 360 the Xbox One will be massively under powered by the time it is EOL or when a successor is announced. This will lead to (as I said) a stagnating game market where games are held back because of the hardware for which they are designed. 2) The market accepts the One and everyone and his dog buys one: This might look not bad and it could very well be a good thing, but its probably not. When Microsoft sells 400m Xbox One's in 8 - 10 years they clearly had a great success with the console. You can conclude than that the market wants a device that isn't necessarily focused primarily on gamers but that is also targeted at people who for example want a browser and skype on their tv and don't want to buy a high-end tv. While this isn't a bad thing for "typical consumers aka your/my mom" this could lead to a bigger focus shift towards "casual" consoles with built in tv box and browser and where gaming isn't the primary feature. When Microsoft than launches their successor of the One, the main focus will not be on gaming but on "casual things", and then, why would they release the next One with high-ends specs when a low end specced machine also sells very very well. And then (as I said in reason 1) the gaming industry and the gaming "development" (not the creation but the overall level of for example textures and other things). While I have to admit, it is a lot of future talk but it isn't bad to look ahead. Also if Microsoft manage's to sell 400m consoles but they are only bought by gamers they might focus towards a more "gamer friendly" console. I hope that I have informed you enough. It wasn't my intention to hate on Microsoft or on the Xbox One, I just wanted to inform you and give you my opinion about that. A like is appreciated and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. Source: http://www.slashgear.com/xbox-one-sets-sights-on-400m-sold-xbox-360-aims-for-100m-24283466/

So yeah, got an email today from G2A stating that they have launched the ability for customers to list game keys for sale on their site, when browsing for games you can filter to community posted listings now and see users keys up for sale. I went ahead and began a 'sell' form to see the process and it simply asks you to type the key into a box, and set a price, when someone buys it the key is revealed instantly just as it would be if you were to purchase a key from their own listings. This has a distinct advantage over eBay because you don't have to wait for a seller to send you a key, not to mentiont eBay doesn't officially allow the sale of digitally delivered CD keys. Also they seem to have a system in place to prevent people from abusing tha PayPal chargeback system after having redeemed your code. Here are the T&Cs of the site and service, it will be interesting to see if this works or not, there seem to be a lot of keys floating about from GPU deals ect so it could mean more of them getting listed for sale rather than given away. https://www.g2a.com/terms-and-conditions/

So I figured I would ask this here as well as my last topic pretty much got 0 input. Probably due to the fact it was posted in the PSU section and not here (forgot which sub I was on when I posted zzzz, going to have mods delete it) : So I lack a work area to make a custom PSU shroud or other components for my upcoming build or I would make them myself. I've seen a few pages on Facebook that sell parts (FTW Industries out of the Phillipines) etc but none of them return messages. Some I have messaged a month ago and nothing. So I was wondering if anyone knows any companies or people who make custom PSU shrouds/parts in general (front panels, backplates, GPU plates etc). I'm trying to get a custom PSU shround, front panel (with 2 x 2 140mm fan holes w/ mesh, refer to picture below) and a GPU backplate to help reduce sag. This is a good idea of what my build is going to look like with my own flair of course. I think it's funny because I had the exact same ideas for my build + some elwire in the front and some case lighting, black/red cables and what not but everything else was pretty much the same as this well before I ever saw this image. Was nice to find an image of a build that mirrored a lot of my ideas. http://i.imgur.com/7vVYT8w.jpg

I thought this would be a good discussion, it's kind of a rant. earlier today I was looking around ebay for a 780 with an incentive to try to get a good deal considering I know alot of people are upgrading to the 780 ti right now I see the 780 retailing for 500$+ depending on brand (on amazon) and when I searched it on ebay... almost EVERYTHING was priced exactly as retail price and the cards are used. In fact, people were actually selling there 780s used for even more than retail price. (like 100$ more) not even with a free shipping deal or anything All I really want is a 780 for around 400$ (considering the 290 beats it in a lot of benchmarks/or is close) Not to offend anyone but...Who buys these cards on ebay? Whats the point of buying an open product, used, at retail price+? Maybe to avoid tax? I don't know Why buy from a retailer that probably doesn't have a good return policy as bigger business(Newegg, Amazon, NCIX)?
