I've had my Audio Technica AT2020 for about a year now. In a game my in-game voice had a lot of background noise but it was perfectly fine in discord and every other game. So I fixed using A virtual audio cable and Voicemeeter Banana. Recently I had to move my setup around and now in a game called Rust my mic wast working(it worked normally in rust before) but in discord with my buddy it still normal. So then I went into steam to adjust my mic volume and I turned it up and it ear blasted my buddy in discord so I stopped that. Then I talked really close to my mic and it picked up in-game but it was super quiet and there was a lot of static and all weird. Also when my mic does pick me up I can hear myself with my voice and quiet and static. If anyone can help me it would help my very much because this is bothering my a lot.

In an attempt to make my room as quiet as possible I've removed a window AC unit, completely removed all fans from my computers by putting the radiators in a separate room, re-located the pumps, encased all LED controllers in teak (to reduce buzzing), and made a few other acoustic treatments. My room is basically silent aside from a bit of white noise from my speakers and some slight coil wine from my PCs, or at least most of the time... Every few hours one of my 2 HDDs spins up and geez I never noticed how loud they are, seems louder than a case fan that's for sure. And that's without the clicking just the spinning, must of never noticed with all the other noise in the room. Anyways not really wanting to spend a ton of money right now I was hoping I could just get a USB HDD enclosure, plug them into my router, encase them in particle board, and stick them up in the top of my closet. Just wondering if they will get too hot and fry? I don't use them all the time, mainly just to store video files, I even move the files off the drives when I actually need to use them, got a few M.2s in the other computers.

HI all wold love some advice on this potential build. I'm looking to build a mini-itx system. This system will be used for office use mostly, with some photoshoping etc. Not for any gaming- no graphics card Primarily this machine needs to stay cool as it will be on all day, every day. I got some feedback from the forums about cases which are designed without a graphics card in mind and got recommended Modivio - http://modivio.com/xcase-l/ I've spoken to them and they have said that the space for the graphics card can be used for a 240mm radiator and the space for the ports can be covered. So i've badly mocked up an idea of the parts for you all to view. would love some feedback about the design, and specifically its ability to stay very cool whilst being small. Greetings everyone. As the title suggests, I am planning to do a quiet/silent gaming PC. After extensive research, I have arrived at the following list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/s6FbRJ Here are my justifications for the list: I chose an aircooler and not a CLC because I read on multiple forums that a big air cooler is usually quieter. And I chose the NH-D15 in particular because of the quiet fans that it comes with and the ease of installation. I chose the Strix Z370-E motherboard for the fan controls implemented in the BIOS. I'm not that good with choosing a motherboard, any other suggestion is welcome. The MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X was praised in many reviews by how quiet it was, and I think that this is due to the beefy heatsink and the two large diameter fans. This is one of the components that I researched the most, because the graphics card is usually the loudest component in a high-end configuration. The Define R6 is known as one of the best noise-insulating cases on the market. I chose the one without a TG side panel for obvious reasons (both sides have noise-dampening foam). Also, the fans that come with the case (Dynamic X2 GP-14) are very quiet, according to this article. Some might think that the PSU is way overkill for this configuration. But I purposely chose a high wattage PSU because that way the fan will not rotate at all (or rotate at a very low speed). The only thing that I'm worried about is the HDD. I don't have much experience with Seagate drives, I only owned a 2TB Barracuda for about a year and a half, and I couldn't even hear that drive, there were other components in my previous system that made more noise. This was my previous configuration: ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Core i5 3470, Thermalright True Spirit 140 BW (rev. A), Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X, 2 x Be Quiet Pure Wings 2 140mm fans (in front), 1 x 140mm stock fan (came with the case), 1 x Noctua NF-S12A top, a Super Flower Golden Green 750W PSU (these are usually found in Europe, Super Flower is the OEM for EVGA; I live in the U.S. now) all inside a Phanteks Enthoo Pro Windowed version (replaced the front 200mm fan with the two Be Quiet fans). I would like to remain in the around $2,000 mark. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

So I'm currently writing my dissertation which is focused on making wind turbines and aircraft quieter by using the special way owl wings are arranged. There has been a lot of research that shows that cutting sawteeth into the back of a flat plate or a wing can make it a few decibels quieter than an unmodified version, in some cases up to 7 decibels quieter. My question is, has anyone tried something like this with computer fans? if done carefully this could be a very effective way to make existing fans quieter or could lead to a new range of quiet fans being developed.

So, i want to keep my pc in the basement but keep my desk on the same spot. I'd rather not use extension cables. Something like thunderbolt hub setup but i have an AMD build. Any ideas how i would accomplish this task?

I'm looking to update the 2 case fans on my rig, which is an Asus P8p67 Deluxe board (a little bit older but still great). The board appears to carry 2 - 4 pin headers, my current fans are 3 pin, and the stock front fan runs wide open 1500 rpm all the time. Not a bad thing blowing across my drives, but just noisy. I can hear it in the next room! So I'm shopping for a much quieter one. Briefly checking stuff, saw a "Be Quiet!" brand which had better reviews. What would you get? It's a simple 2 fan front & rear setup. Already have a giant Noctua cooling the CPU, slow and inaudible, temps are good.

Just moved into an apartment complex with very thin walls. This gives me two challenges, with my new build. 1) I need the pc to be on the smaller side (depth at 40cm or below.) 2) I need the pc to be very quiet (below 25 dB) The place i plan on placing it, limits the depth to 40 cm. It can almost be as wide and tall as needed. I measured the background noise in my apartment at night, and it hangs around 25 dB. So a noise level under that while gaming would be ideal. Im planning on using this method to pick parts. Its a bit frustrating that he doesnt show thermals or benchmarks or anything like that, but is this method of having only the case fans(and gpu) really viable? I dont have a hard price limit. But im looking to use around 1000 USD excluding GPU. I already have a 1070 im planning on using for this build. Im planning on buying the 2gen ryzen chips, with a TDP of 65 w. So something like a 2600 or 2700 non x. Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 I know hes using a be quiet! one in the build, but i like noctua better. But im sure its fine right? Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX I should probably get one with sound dampening, if i want it to be that quiet. But it's nice to have nice design aswell. But should this micro atx case provide enough airflow to have only case fans? It would be cool to do something like this, but it probably doesnt have good enough air flow to stay quiet? https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wXCypg

Hi All, Looking for a silent keyboard, UK layout, that isn't mechanical. I've had a shop around but the reviews for a lot of these advertised 'quiet' ones are dubious at best so I'm wondering is anyone has a standard membrane keyboard or knows of one that isn't expensive (below £30?). It's for an educational institution and for exam purposes. Cheers

Hi everyone, I decided to join here after watching a lot of Linus' videos and I think they're great! I read quite a few threads and saw that there's a good community going on here. I had a request for advice on a PC build that would be installed in my living room, here's the most info I can give about what I want : Location: Quebec, Canada Budget: around 1,500$ CDN (flexible) Aim: Music Production. I want to use Ubuntu Studio to record my instruments through my current audio card, a M-Audio ProFire 2626 (also would be ready to upgrade this). I already have a FireWire PCI card unless there are FireWire ports in the suggested PC build (I doubt it, but who knows). Aim #2: Recording video of me recording music. This is secondary and could be done on another PC if it is detrimental to the audio recordings. I own a Logitech C615 webcam. I would set this up in my living room and connect the PC to either a 55" Samsung TV or an older 32" Samsung TV (all through HDMI connections) depending on space I already have a keyboard and mouse. Would need a basic DVD writer and an ok-but-not-for-gaming graphics card. I have an old PC that doesn't start anymore. That was my old music production rig, that ran Windows 7 with ProTools 8 M-Powered (old!). I would like a sturdy build, as quiet as can be, with high storage capabilities, perhaps around 4TB. As this would go in a living room, I don't want a rackmount but eventually I will have a home studio setup in its own room and if rackmounts aren't too pricey I could get one so I'll already have it for when the studio room is done. Any other questions will be gladly answered quickly. Thanks! Hemmel

I'm looking for quiet and good performing fans for a 280mm radiator (so two 140mm fans), my budget for both can go to £35 at a stretch. What I've found so far: NZXT Are P&F FANS

Hello Everyone My main keyboard is a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 and I feel its time to upgrade and I was looking for a TKL(TenKeyLess) keyboard that is quiet and has fast response time. I been looking into Cherry MX Browns and Cherry MX Reds as well as Romer G switches but I am not sure which to choose from since I have never tired any of them out. Currently I been looking at the Logitech G Pro, and HyperX Alloy FPS Pro. From what I have read is that people compare the Romer G switch to MX Browns. Also taking recommendations as well. Thanks

Hello, so i've got my gaming pc here and i'm currently only using a 120GB Kingston UV400 SSD for my OS and some important stuff. however, i'm also looking for a HDD with +1TB of storage, but i also need a quiet one so my PC stays as quiet as possible. are there any good HDD's with (more then) 1TB of storage and are also quiet? please let me know

OK, this is going to sound weird, as many users love the mechanical key switches, but for me, I'm looking for the opposite. I've always loved the sound of quieter keys on my keyboard, like the ones you would find on a 4-5-year-old laptop. Can anyone make any suggestions on quieter desktop keyboards? Please spare me from any ridicule you want to give. I have gone through it before, I'm immune from it.

I recently completed my new PC, with a Ryzen 1600 with a 240 AIO, and a GTX 1070 Strix. My system has 3 fans (Counting the AIO) with an exhaust fan that came with my Eclipse P300. The included fan is a 3 pin and runs at full speed. My PC is right next to me, about 1.5 feet away, and is fairly loud, even at idle, mainly because of that fan. Is it necessary to have an exhaust fan, and how can I make the system quieter?

Hello I have a PC and it is in my bedroom. I use it for video editing and it often needs to work at night. The PC is pretty loud tho. I think about putting the pc on my balcony. The balcony is windowed and temps are 10 deg. C(about 39 F). The humidity is around 40-55%. I wonder if it is safe(no water can get in).

So I just switched out my AIO for a cryorig H5 Ultimate, and in my Comos case it's practically silent. So I'm looking to up my air flow to get sufficient air to this new cooler. I'm looking for some fans that aren't super expensive, are somewhat quiet, and don't suck(but they should blow.) What should I buy?!

Hey Guys! 2nd time builder from Australia here. Last rig I built was 6-7 years ago so looking for a new refresh. I'm looking at going for an Intel Core i5-8600k to be set for the next few years and as a future-proofing measure. I'm also looking at getting a quiet-ish build as I'll probably be doing some recording and don't want the fans to impact noise levels too much (Also prefer quieter personally). My main questions are in relation to the 2 cases I have in mind and cooling options in terms of overclocking. Case Options - Phantek Eclipse P400s Tempered Glass Edition - Fractal Design Define C Tempered Glass Edition So far from my research it seems that acoustically and airflow wise the Define C will beat the P400s by a small margin (please correct me if I'm wrong). As such I'm leaning towards the P400s as I prefer the design and RGB over the Define C. Opinions welcome here. Cooling Options -Noctua NH-D15S (I bought ram on clearance and it's tall, so the non-s version won't work for me ) -Deepcool Captain 240EX or equivalent AIO around that price point I'd like to get a moderate overclock on the i5-8600k if possible but am worried about the thermals with the limited input airflow of the 'quiet' cases. My two major questions would be. 1) Would I be able to get a decent overclock on a i5-8600k with those cases 2) For cases with limited intakes such as P400s and Define C, would using an AIO liquid cooler or air cooler yield better performance? If so how much? I'm welcome to any suggestions in terms of extra fans, placement, or other alternatives for cases and cooling as well. I'll be using a gtx1060 which is probably a bit underpowered compared to the CPU but suitable for my current needs (plan on upgrading sometime in the future once prices drop). The most important thing for me is trying to get the system to be fairly quiet even with moderate overclocks. Thanks in advance for the help! Build Plan Stuff: 1. Budget & Location Australia, Around 2k AUD/CAD for the actual system excluding monitor and peripherals, can go a bit over if needed. Equates to around 1.5k USD 2. Aim Studio recording, Unity dev, 1080 high quality gaming. Won't be playing too many triple A titles, but would like the system to last a good 5+ years. 3. Monitors Single 1080p 144hz gaming monitor, possibly with another 1080p cheap monitor for productivity 4. Peripherals No need, have enough laying around. 5. Why are you upgrading? 6+ year Old System, can't really play much on a 1st gen i5, GTX 480 and 4GB ram. Also the 480 keeps crashing

1660ti 1660ti Owners! - Best card version/manufacturer?
robytoberts posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hey kids, After an experience with a rx590 that made an attempt to deafen me that left me scarred and deformed, I'm currently looking at doing a build for a capable gaming/productivity machine which is as efficient and quiet as possible. From what I've seen, the 1660ti is the best performance/watt card available right now and would get excellent framerates at 1080p which is exactly what I need. However, the number of different cards from different manufacturers is ridiculous - in the UK it ranges from tiny 1 fan designs to 3 fan beasts, with about a £120 difference in price between the cheapest and most expensive. Those of you who own 1660ti or have experience with them..... which cards are getting the best thermal/acoustic performance? I'm not too worried about factory overclock - the base speeds are more than good enough, I just want a card that will be as quiet and cool as possible under load in possibly quite a cramped SFF case. tl;dr - Which 1660ti design gets the best thermals and is quiet as a mouse? Thanks in advance for the help! -
HI Im looking to upgrade my new psu and graphics card to a RX 480 8gb but im reading that you need quite a few amps for it more than 25? The psu i was thinking about going for is the Be quiet Straight power 10 but it had 4 12v rails 20,20,18,18 amps respective can i even run it on this? or do amps not stack? Never really had to think about this so i have no idea... Hopefully someone can help me out
