I recently decided to start a new project using my PS2. I thought it would be cool to be able to hook the PS2 up to my PC monitor, and be able to switch between using my PC and PS2 at my desk. My monitor (An Acer SB220q) has two ports - an HDMI and a VGA. Since the HDMI port is used by my computer, my initial instinct was to find an adapter that would convert the RCA output from the PS2 to VGA. However, after a bit of research, I found that it is very difficult to convert RCA to VGA, and would require a special active adapter that costs around $100. Instead, I managed to find this adapter (see link) which plugs directly into the PS2 and converts it to HDMI and AUX out. Since I already had a displayport to VGA adapter and a VGA cable lying around, I figured I could plug my PC into the VGA port, and the PS2 into the HDMI port. However, I discovered that plugging my PC into the VGA port greatly decreased the image quality, and caused this strange wavy effect (I'm not sure what to call it). As a last resort, I decided to buy an HDMI switcher, which would allow me to use both devices on the monitor through HDMI. While this setup does work, the HDMI switcher seems to have caused an unforeseen problem. It seems as though power is able to travel through the switcher between the PC and the PS2's HDMI adapter. The PS2's adapter is an active adapter, and requires being plugged into a USB port. Strangely, when my PC is off and the adapter is receiving power (which happens when the PS2 is on since the adapter is powered by the PS2's USB port) the case fans on my PC begin to spin at a low speed. This even happens when my PC's power supply is turned off. As soon as I unplug the HDMI cable from my PC, or turn off the PS2, the fans stop spinning. While it is somewhat annoying, this isn't a huge deal to me. What's more concerning is what happens when the PC is on while the PS2 is off. If the PS2 is off, and I turn on my PC, something begins to make a high-pitched, almost inaudible squealing noise. I can't tell if it's coming from the adapter or the PS2 itself. In addition to this, the lights on the wireless controller adapter for the PS2 turn on, even though the PS2 is off. It seems as though the PC is sending power to the adapter through the HDMI port, which is then sending power into the USB port on the PS2, and causing it to malfunction. If I simply unplug the USB cable from the PS2, the issues go away. My current solution to the problem is to simply keep the adapter unplugged while the PS2 is off. This prevents the PS2 from going haywire when the PC is turned on. However, it is somewhat annoying having to plug in and unplug the USB every time I use the PS2. It seems as though the best solution is to eliminate the need for the HDMI splitter somehow, as it seems to be the cause of all the problems. There are three possible solutions I've thought up, and I would appreciate any input on the viability of these options. Perhaps its possible that the VGA input from my PC looked so bad because either the adapter was bad, or the VGA cable itself was so old. If I got a new cable and/or adapter, or even a displayport to VGA cable like this one here, is it possible that the PC display would look better using the VGA input on the monitor? Maybe the HDMI splitter I got is somehow faulty. Is power supposed to be able to travel between the devices the way it is? Maybe if I got a new or better splitter it would fix the issue. The most likely solution to work is unfortunately the one where I wait it out. I know I'm going to want to upgrade my monitor at some point and use my old monitor for a dual-monitor setup. When I get my new monitor, I can just make sure that it has either two HDMI ports, or an HDMI and displayport input. Any input on whether any of these options would work would be appreciated. If there's another solution you can think of, I'd love to hear it as well.

Hey all! So I have my old PS2 controller alongside a PC converter to make it playable on PC. It works fine for the most part, apart from the button designations that don't display the Playstation button symbols like "Square", "R1", "L1", "Start", etc., but it displays them as "Button 1", "Button 3", etc. Is there a way to change how they are displayed? I tried navigating the Devices & Printers in the Control Panel, but all I found was only the testing if all the buttons are working. Looking forward for some replies. Cheers!! P.S.: I don't have a PS3/ PS4/ XBox/ XBox One controllers because I've never had those consoles. I only have my PS2 from back in the day.

Back around 2006 I used to play these two rpg like games in my cousins house, and he never actually passed them down to me and now theyre gone. No matter how many keywords i type into Google nothing seems to look familiar enough. Im not sure if it was two separate games or the same one but from two separate files. Either way i really want to find them. What I do know is that Game #1 started you off in a train station. The camera is slightly overview and fixed and so you walk down onto the rails and into the tunnel. The next thing i remember is the train crashes and you end up climbing out into the other tunnels, where you fight wolves and small purple-ish fluffy monsters called Nuggets. There's a turn in the railroad and suddenly a large purple monster called Big Nugget comes out and attacks you. I dont recall anything after. The second one is more Final Fantasy style, with areas like a large white castle and a vast desert with an only entrance to a sewer system. Theres a main marketplace that appears to be in the clouds? The way to travel is by teleporting (no its not FF12, it wasnt crystals it was regular circles on the ground) and i think you play as a guy?? It might be a final fantasy game but ive looked and nothing clicks. Ive spent 9 years looking for these games and ive had no luck, maybe someone else does??

Hi peeps, I was wondering if someone is able to help me. I'm trying to get my old PS2 Slim back up and running, but I'm having some issues. I am using the 3-point sensor blocking trick, as I am using SwapMagic 3.6 (DVD). This is the current behaviour, also see the video at the bottom: 1. Push power button, turns on 2. Disc spins up, laser moves towards disc motor 2a. Sony Computer Entertainment logo/intro plays, with sound 3. Laser moves towards outer edge of disc 4. Disc keeps spinning at a low rate 4a. Black screen, does not load anymore This happens with all types of DVD/Playstation 2 discs that always used to work (both legal and illegal copies). Things I've tried: - Rearranging the sensor-blocking objects (they appear to be in the correct position, as moving it will stop the disc from spinning which means incorrect placement) - Cleaning laser lens with alcohol - Different disc rotation setting (fast vs. normal) - Different inputs and signal input cable type (RGB/RWY cables with and without adapter to SCART) - Different discs - Diagnostic mode (but that didn't do anything, not in the way it should work that is) - Trying to find similar posts/problems/topics, but none really seemed like that had the same situation It appears the gaphics part works fine, and it looks like it is probably able to read with the laser as well (laser positioning motor also looks to be working fine). I'm not getting the famous "Disc Read Error" line. Last time it properly worked was probably 8 years ago. It has been stored properly in working condition, disconnected from any power and signal cables and fairly free of dust and also has not been moved/bumped into in that time frame. I hope some of you are able to help me, or guide/link me in the right direction. I'm looking forward to playing some (at least for me) nostalgic games. Thank you in advance. Cheers, JB

I decided to play GT3 again purely out of nostalgia. I used to play this game a lot when I was 12 and it was one of the few PS2 games I owned since they were really expensive at the time. This is the only Gran Turismo title I played. It’s basically a racing simulator game where you compete in different leagues with restricted events. The game also encourages you to tune your car with massive upgrades to gain an advantage over your opponents. You start the game with 18.000 credits. This leaves you with the option of buying rather slow cars like the Mazda Mx5, the PT Cruiser or the Yaris. It’s very frustrating because you can buy a Camaro for not much more cash than that and it’s a wayyy better car. Most people would go with the Mx5 because it’s basically the fastest and best handling car you can start with. But that’s a huge mistake! There’s a Yaris only championship early in the game that allows you to get enough cash to buy something like an Evo or a Camaro as a second car. I like how the game introduces model specific events like that so that you have to think twice before buying a car. Keep in mind that completing race events rewards you with a car. Interestingly, Japanese cars are rewarded like 99% of the time. So you’ll probably want your second car to be American or European, because there are some American/European only events. I wish I knew that sooner. Actually, it doesn’t matter. At one point or another you’ll win a race car from one of the championships in the amateur league. And then the game becomes rather...boring! You’ll just wipe the floor in most other events as opponents drive much slower cars. This is somewhat mitigated with event rules that restrict the type of car you can use. But it’s only a matter of time until you win another race car of a different type or model...and then another one...another one... To make things worse, a lot of the championships just feel the same (especially the ones with the same restrictions) because there aren’t many race tracks in the game. I am thinking maybe 7 or 8. The game just becomes a grind as you finish each event out of completionism. In one hand Gran Turismo 3 is everything that I remembered: a fun racing game with lots of different cars and an awesome sound track. On the other hand, the game loses its charm once you win your first race car and every other car in the game just feels slower. I just wish that the different car categories (with regards to performance) were represented more. For example, the Honda S2000 is a blast to drive but you never really have a reason to drive one because a much faster car can be won early into the game. How are the more recent Gran Turismo games compared to GT3?

So i am looking for a blu ray player that is thinner than the 5.25' standard external bay and it must be shorter than 6.2' length wise, , must be sata, and also it must be motorized. why? for a ps2 pc conversion of course. i want to replace the original hard drive with a blu ray one (i will settle for dvd if no thin blu ray drives exist), however most drives are 5.25 in. and that is simply too big for the ps2. anyone know of a drive like this or know where to look? (other than newegg or amazon ofc)

So, i have a Slimline PS2 system, model SCPH-70012. I has never given me any problems until one day, the disc just didn't wanna spin. At all Well, I bought a new motor on eBay....nothing. Took the whole thing apart. Checked the fuses, all good. All sensors were checked with a multimeter and in simulated use. The laser moves and lights up and all that jazz. Was gonna recalibrate the potentiometers on the laser but I can't for the death of me find what the values are supposed to be. This thing has never been modded, everything inside looks and tested fine. I even took my multimeter to the motor socket on the motherboard, and tested the ribbon cable for the laser. I opened the browser and put a disc in and it only said "reading disc" for about one second, so it's clearly not detecting the disc. I would really like to get this fixed so I can win my 20th Winston Cup, become a worldwide touring rock legend, and get the crown, save the town and Mr. Krabs

Hello, I am a fifteen year old boy from Malaysia which is neighbouring countries with Singapore. My goal is to build a fully custom PS2 with mod chips, water cooling 3d printed case. My question is there are many way to connect a ps2 to a 4K TV but which way is netter in quality and lower lag. The picture that I included is an example. I will not buy the product from the website or the price stated. BTW, does external upscaler help the quality of the picture and lag or is the built in upscaler in my 4K TV in home better?

*To the mods, Please don't take this down anymore, I've managed to fix the problems on this post A little ambitious for a first time builder but this is something I've had in the works for a while. Since starting to watch LTT, other "TechTubers" and reading this forum about two years ago, I've wanted to build my own desktop. I originally wanted to build something very budget oriented with an AMD FX-6300 or FX-8320 and R9 280 in the inexpensive yet clean looking Corsair Carbide 200r to create what I thought was good combination of price to performance at trhe time However, after saving up more money and the release of the of new products, I fell in love with the original Bitfenix Pandora with it's unique curved side panels and LCD display on the front. Although there were many restrictions in choice of hardware due to the slim design profile of the Pandora at 160 mm wide, I was set on a matx build. I didn't mind the idea of the case only have a small selection of hardware to choose from as it helped me narrow the huge selection of available hardware. Then along with the sudden rise of clean looking black and white themed build, I also came across the Asus TUF Gryphon Z87/Z97 matx motherboard with the thermal armor that could easily be spray painted white. So I was set on a black and white themed build and even considered spray painting the inside of the Bitfenix Pandora and any GPU I decided to get. I started searching for more blackand white coloured parts like white Kingston HyperX RAM, Aerocool's Dead Silence LED fans, and Bitfenix's presleeved Fury line of PSUs. While waiting of deals and the right time to bite the bullet and start buying parts, Intel released their Skylake line of CPUs and matx motherboards began to raise in price and became more rare, expecially the Asus TUF Gryphon.(Note that Asus doesn't have the matx Gryphon for Z170/LGA1151). Soon my new desktop became a project that would be left on the backburner. Fast forward a bit in time I come across two really interesting builds that were logged on this forum that inspired my current build. The first one, Little Mac, really packed a punch (pun intented) as it featred the GTX 970 in an itx form factor made by gigabyte but was still small enough to only be 4.2L in Volume and could be hung behind a TV and be used an HTPC. Although the idea is nothing revolutionary nor original, I had already thought about stripping out one of my extra PS2s that my uncles had given me and was just laying around but didn't really think that buildinga PC inside of it was possble until I saw the second build, Potenially Unpossible, that used the Slim varient of the PS2. It was then I new that I would ditch the Bitfenix Pandora build for the novilty of having a PC running inside the case of a PS2. Hello I have been wanting to play my PS2 for a while now and I was wondering if it is possible to convert the PS2 component to VGA? I know you can buy RCA/ Composite video to VGA converters but the RCA/ Composite signal quality from a PS2 is poor and also I have tried converting to HDMI but that failed as my monitor is very fussy I guess. Please help with your suggestions

Hi everyone, I know you can get cheap adapters for that, but that's besides the point. PS2---------------------USB 5V+ --------------------5v+ GROUND------------------GROUND CLOCK-------------------DATA+ DATA--------------------DATA- Will this kind of rewire work?

i have three consoles using ypbpr/component (wii, ps2, original xbox), and i am having trouble looking for a switch box that doesn't badly affect video qualiaty. i can only find one that may affect video qualiaty and if i have to i might get one that turns the video into hdmi or vga. so help.

Hey Guys I apologise if that is the wrong forum, if it is please let me know. Is it possible to connect a PS2 to a modern monitor? As far as I know the PS2 only has the red/white/yellow connectors and an adapter to SCART, where as my main monitor (Dell U2414H) only has HDMI and DP and my secondary monitor HDMI, VGA and DVI, Are there adapters for that or do I have to use an older TV?

Hey guys, With inspiration from Luke's Fallout 4 Bomb Shell build, and my own desire to build a smaller computer for my television, I'm considering trying to throw something together inside a older console case. I loved my Playstation 2 as a kid, and it would be fantastic to see one under my TV again. I'm not looking to do any kind of gaming, I just want a machine that can browse the web, stream Netflix or YouTube. I don't think it'd be too difficult to get parts to fit inside a fat case like the Playstation 2, but the only issue that comes to mind is finding a power supply that'll fit and still run the machine. Anyways, what do you guys think? And as always, thanks for the help.

Ok, there was this game for ps2, i have no idea what is was called and my memory on it is very fuzzy, but i loved it and i need to be reunited with it. it was a 3d adventure game(i think it had graphics similair to katamari) it may have been an rpg, idk, but i know you ventured through levels. you created your own character(kind of like spore, the game isn't spore btw) choosing the legs choosing the arms, torso, head etc. please help me, I NEED TO PLAY THIS.

The entirety of the scope of this project has changed, and so, ill start up a new thread explaining it all <3 So I have a LOT of gaming consoles...like nearly a dozen in total. [PS, PS2, PS4, [wanna get a PS3], an XB, XB360, XB1, N64, GC, NES, Genesis, Wii, WiiU [NinNX when that comes out] [my VCR is also POTENTIALLY going to be included in this project despite not being a game console] PLUS a high end gaming rig. and this list is only going to continue to increase as time goes on and new consoles come out and phase out the old ones. The problem is, i have a hard time letting go of even trashed pieces of technology, and storing all of these things is a freaking hassle, especially because honestly i rarely use any of them, but i like to have them out mostly for show but on the off chance i do want to use them, theyre there [i have them all attached to a power squid that i leave unplugged from the wall when theyre not being used so no soft power eats at my electric bill] SO I CAME UP WITH A PLAN!! Im currently trying to find a full height server rack on the cheap, and with my new iFixit pro tech tool kit i got for christmas im going to take all of my consoles apart and fit them in to 2U, 3U or 4U sized cases and fit them all in to a rack mountable PSU that has dedicated switches on each power plug, and plug every Audio/Video out in to a large HDMI receiver this will be a LONG time project [not planning to be done for at least a couple months as my new office this is moving in to has been torn down to the studs and theres no room in my current space for a project of this scale] but i just finished sketching out the cable diagrams for how im going to route everything and im getting ready to start looking for hardware to stockpile until my new office is finished being remodeled and i can actually get to work on this. if anyone has any recommendations for server rack materials [cases, shelves, server posts themselves, etc] thatd be super helpful. Im in the North Eastern USA, in New Hampshire *MAJOR UPDATE* I just decided i might as well add my audio components to the build as well [the beauty of Modularity, i can get shelves to sit stuff like my record player on to] This means that the project may take a tad longer but will have like 99% of my home audio/video componentry built in to it lol So we are adding now a 6ish channel audio mixer to the build, and a rackmountable cd changer with a shelf for my vintage record player and my parents hand me down vinyl collection [so cool that records are coming back]

Probably a year ago, I became more and more interested of the PS2's inner workings. I don't know why, so don't ask. I'm incredibly curious about it, how it works and how games take advantage of the hardware. As of recently, I became aware of the PS2 Tool, which I think was have been involved in developing games for the system. Unfortunately, it's hard to obtain. For some reason, I want to play around with the PS2 development tools. Badly. Not sure why. This has led me to wonder if maybe it's possible to create your own through combining a modified PS2 system with a modified Pentium II 266 or Celeron 566 system. It would be difficult, if it's even possible. I know the PS2 Tool had a lot of manuals that explained the PS2's hardware in detail, and I would love to read them. I wonder who has actually created homebrew games for the PS2. Not PS2 Linux games, actual PS2 games, like the big name titles. I wonder if it's possible to use a PS2 Tool or modified PS2 in conjunction with a computer to develop games, even simple ones. I don't know what kinds of answers I'm looking. I want serious details of the system, because I'm just so bloody curious, and I can't help it. I know it sounds weird. I am weird.
