PC BUILD - ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS WELCOMED
AspiringDev posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello, I'm building a new PC which will be used for games development, running UE4, as well as playing games on high/max settings. These are the current parts for the PC: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/rnDzRG I've decided to pick either of these liquid coolers listed below, but I'm open to suggestions of both performance and aesthetics within the same price range: NZXT Kraken X62 Liquid CPU Cooler OR Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler In addition, I've decided that I'll most likely be getting the following peripherals, but I'm open to suggestions of better alternatives within the same price range: Monitor: BenQ GL2460HM 24.0" Keyboard: Corsair Gaming K70 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard — Cherry MX Red From the parts listed on PCPP do you believe they're excellent for the intended purpose? I'm opened to suggestions and thanks for taking time to view my thread.- 8 replies

I've recently been applying for jobs as a new graduate in the computing sector but not much luck. Most of the jobs in my area work around web dev, software engineers and junior roles, however due to only just coming out of education, I have no commercial experience and my portfolio is extremely limited. For feedback from one of my last applications, the guy in charge recommended that I created a portfolio, doesn't have to be of any real life projects, just a series of dummy developer projects. What I was going to as is, what kind of projects should I do or create which would look good on a portfolio? For example a website using a SQL database to gain access to a fake library of files, or a super pretty website using CSS tools etc. Or along with this, maybe a program which reads and shows disk activity. Any ideas are good ideas! Thanks

Hi, I am looking for a laptop in order to do a lot of programming (and gaming too). My budget can't go over $1300. Moreover, the laptop should be able to run some VM's pretty easily and capable of running some good quality games also. Thank you in advance for guiding me in my choice !

Hello. I am super new to programming apps. I have previous basic C++, VHDL and HTML/CSS/JS experience. I want to practice a project. Sending an SMS and figuring out how communication works intrigued me. But I have no clue where to start. And I really do not want to program in Java. Is there a way to program in Python or any other language to make an SMS app? Can I use Android Studio for other languages? Can Unreal be used for game making? Or what's better? Where can I find libraries? I see posts on the sub showing off new libraries. But I don't even know where to find the basic ones. Is there a proper up-to date guide for the entire process of app making and testing? I couldn't find new stuff for android 7. Thank you. Super sorry for noob questions. I didn't know where to ask on how to get started.

Hi folks, a friend of mine tried to follow this tutorial about receiving & sending codes with arduinos (it's German): http://www.arduino-tutorial.de/funkuebertragung-von-messwerten-mit-dem-rf-link-modul/ The baseline is, though, that this doen't seem like a copy&paste code. Apparently something got messed up with special characters and their translation (HTML) so the sourcecode ends up not working out of the box. I guess we figured out that " equals " and & is for &, but replacing the characters like that gives us following error when trying to compile: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ArduinoLLC.ArduinoIDE_1.8.1.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt\hardware\arduino\avr\cores\arduino\main.cpp: In function 'main': C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ArduinoLLC.ArduinoIDE_1.8.1.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt\hardware\arduino\avr\cores\arduino\main.cpp:51:1: error: unable to find a register to spill in class 'NO_REGS' } ^ C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ArduinoLLC.ArduinoIDE_1.8.1.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt\hardware\arduino\avr\cores\arduino\main.cpp:51:1: error: this is the insn: (insn 410 407 413 22 (set (mem:QI (post_dec:HI (reg/f:HI 32 __SP_L__)) [0 S1 A8]) (subreg:QI (reg/f:HI 327) 1)) C:\Users\SQZY\Documents\Arduino\libraries\rc-switch-2.6.2\examples\ReceiveDemo_Simple\ReceiveDemo_Simple.ino:34 1 {pushqi1} (expr_list:REG_ARGS_SIZE (const_int 1 [0x1]) (nil))) C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ArduinoLLC.ArduinoIDE_1.8.1.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt\hardware\arduino\avr\cores\arduino\main.cpp:51: confused by earlier errors, bailing out lto-wrapper: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ArduinoLLC.ArduinoIDE_1.8.1.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt\hardware\tools\avr/bin/avr-gcc returned 1 exit status c:/program files/windowsapps/arduinollc.arduinoide_1.8.1.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt/hardware/tools/avr/bin/../lib/gcc/avr/4.9.2/../../../../avr/bin/ld.exe: lto-wrapper failed collect2.exe: error: ld returned 1 exit status exit status 1 Error compiling for board Arduino/Genuino Uno. Hello, I am looking to build a new PC with monitor primarily for programming(coding), reading, descent gaming. I am not High on budget. In India I can afford INR 70000 on CPU Unit. and INR 20000 on Monitor. 1USD = 65 INR Example: In Amazon India,Core i7 7700 costs around 25000 INR. I do lot of reading and coding and data analysis(POC Level analysis) and watch videos. I also have some VMs for BigData that I run when I am doing analysis. I am also looking to play some games like Witcher3, etc. for an hour daily(if time permits).I have played games like COD, Hitman, NFS, etc during college days. So I have liking for such games. Mostly 1 USD = 65 INR. I am currently owning Intel Corei5-4440 3.1 Ghz CPU and 6 GB RAM and 500GB HDD. Circle Cabinet with 280 Volts PSU and Samsung Syncmaster B2230 and Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. Philips 2.1 Speakers. So kindly suggest me some good build.

Hi Guys, I'm looking to get back into programming - I did a bit at uni and thought ...why not build the computer myself too? It doesn't need to be super duper high spec but I would like to have the option to upgrade as I go (see if I take to it etc.). I was thinking on this basis that maybe I should invest in a good motherboard/SSD/...HD and then just decent other second hand components. - I'd like to be able to overclock - to learn about it more than for performance gains ...to begin with anyway - I don't mind second hand ... or third hand for that matter (big price reduction?) - I'd like to have multiple cores and threads (as many as possible within reason) because I enjoyed learning MPI/OpenMP at uni and I want to play around with them - I will be running linux ubuntu (unless you have a better suggestion) - I DO NOT want to use this computer for gaming but I would eventually like to learn CUDA ... if you know what I mean - I will have 2 monitors Budget: ~£770.24 at the time of posting, preferably lower obvs ...but can go higher if I'm asking the impossible. (I live in the UK but that's around $1000) Spec: I bow to your superior wisdom ...but I was thinking an i7-6700/i7-6800 as a starting point. I would really appreciate any help from you kind, knowledgeable, attractive folk and I apologise if I have posed this request in an ignorant manner (no doubt the internet will subtly let me know if this is the case).

Hey I'm trying to make a little game. I have never coded before and I found a tutorial online on how to make a text based game. Here's the tutorial: I have a few questions: he puts the colour as 0a and 1a could someone please give me some examples of other colours? I changed the question in the game and I made the whole game Hip Hop themed, the problem is the person only made one level and I want to make another level with a different question. My version of the game is attached. I tried making a second level but it didn't show up in the game could someone please help me? game.bat

Hello! I'm looking for a new monitor since I need a bit more desktop space doe to programming and I want moar pixels. I have an Asus VG278H currently and it's been a great monitor but the 1080Pness is starting to bug me when I go from my MBP to my desktop. Also the color banding in games and videos. My current monitor would be as a second monitor. So I am debating on whether to get a UHD 27 inch monitor like the LG 27UD58 or an ultrawide like the LG 34UC88. Is there a huge difference in fidelity? The UHD monitor is quite a bit cheaper and has more pixels, but the quality might be worse. Not many reviews on the UD58, but many have said there is some backlight bleed on the more expensive but older UD68. If there are any other monitors I should be aware of PLEASE tell me. I have been trying to decide for the past weekend, but I have come up with nothing. Budget is ideally 600 euros max, BUT if there is a super duper good monitor for 700, I might consider it. Please note I am located in Finland (EU) so US sales don't really apply. I hope someone can help a man in distress Help is much appreciated! Edit: Gaming is not a priority.

Hi there people! I am a college student and I am currently in the market looking for a laptop. I am utterly confused with all the options. I will be using it for programming and media consumption(little to no gaming). I was looking at getting a Macbook Air but I would like your opinion. All I am looking for in the laptop is good build quality and linux compatibilty. My budget is around the $900. Also I am from India. We get very few laptops here so it would be nice if you suggest more than one laptop as some may not be available here. Thank You.

Hey all, I am looking for a laptop for around $700 Canadian. I have a pc so this would not be my main computer however I would still like it to be powerful enough. I am a 5th year (coop) software engineering student and will be graduating in April. The main reason I want a laptop is for programming and web browsing. This for me means I would like it to be powerful enough to run one or two virtual boxes and I also would like it to be easy to have it dual boot to Linux. If anymore info is needed I will be happy to provide it. Also as cyber Monday/black Friday are just around the corner if you have suggestion that are a higher priced but I could keep a look out for on those days then let me know!

This program is to check if a number is Automorphic (i.e. a number whose square ends in itself. example - 25*25 = 625) the logic of my program seems to be right to me, but BlueJ does not want to do anything after i enter a number, it does nothing. (PS ima noob so pls dont overwhelm me with complicated crap) here's the program: import java.io.*; public class AutomorphicNumber { //start of class public static void main(String[] args)throws IOException { //main method starts BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in)); System.out.println("Enter number to check Automorphic or not : "); int n = Integer.parseInt(br.readLine()); //taking user input int temp=n; int d=1; while(temp>0){ //while loop to count number of digits and form multiple of 10 to do modulus division temp=temp%10; d=d*10; } //loop ends if ((n*n) % d == n) //get original number from square System.out.println("It is an Automorphic Number."); else System.out.println("It is not an Automorphic Number."); } //end of method } //end of class

Why is it doing this?

I have a problem with my C# Windows Form Application. When i click on a checkbox to turn its state to true it calls a Public void in another class (Class2.callFunction) This Class2.callFunction has code that gets enabled but it freezes my whole application. When i test what the code does outside of the application it works but i want to be able to use the Form still without it been frozen. CheckBox: private void checkBox1_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (checkBox1.Checked == true) { Class2 class2 = new Class2(); class2.callFunction(); } } Function Called: public void callFunction() { CODE HERE I CAN NOT SHOW! } The code works but in the call function which is in a class of its own freezes the application when its put into use.
