  1. I have a dell optiplex 390 with i5 2500 installed in it. Can I upgrade to a xeon e3 1240 v2. in other words. can i put a fclga1155 processor in an oem lga1155 board. Please tell me a solution. I don't have enogh budget to get an i7. Thanks
  2. Hello everyone. For Christmas, I upgraded my fiancée's mom's computer by just completely replacing it with a full size Dell Optiplex 980. (Considering it was using an IDE drive and DDR RAM [1 GB no less], I think it was a good call.) I tried installing Windows 10 and as expected, it didn't quite work; I got my old Windows CD to work, but not my USB installer (which is tested working). After looking online, I can tell that it's due to the graphics being too far below the minimum Windows 10 requirements. What would be a good card to add to the machine? CPU: Core i3-550 (73 W power draw) PSU: 305W Form Factor: Full size Computer use case: Looking at photos, light web browsing, email, Windows Office (Word, Powerpoint, etc) Here is the original eBay listing for the machine: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-980-MT-Mini-Tower-Intel-Core-i3-550-3-20-GHz-4-GB-RAM-NO-HDD-NO-OS/184513081155?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  3. Hey everyone, I was looking to do an Optiplex or some sort of business desktop upgrade so it could be viable for gaming. I’m still wondering what model I should get, and also what graphics card I should get that wouldn’t bottleneck these older systems. I’m already planning to add as SSD that’s about $40-50 and a 500w power supply that’s also around $50. With that factored, I’d like to try and keep the total cost under $350. Thank you!
  4. Hi, I have a DELL Optiplex 7020 MT, with an i7 4790, and I want to purchase this specific card (MSI 1650 SUPER Gaming X) Because at the moment I cant afford 200+ usd card, and this one it's the 1650 super that has 3 Display Ports, for a future triple monitor configuration. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9L7p99/msi-geforce-gtx-1650-super-4-gb-gaming-x-video-card-gtx-1650... But I don't know this card will fit, since my case still has the 3.5” hdd bay cage, and I would prefer not to remove it. And it's a 248 mm card. So would it fit?
  5. Budget (including currency): 500$ Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: arcgis, cyberpunk, csgo, elden ring, autocad and some more remote sensing softwares which are CPU oriented. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I got an old dell OptiPlex workstation for free with lga 1155 mobo I added a i7 3770k that I got for 80$ ebay got an gtx 1080 for 150$ ebay 32 gigs of ddr3 2.5 1tb adata ssd for 65$ I have a 1080p monitor laying around Should I try OC on cpu on same motherboard, change the motherboard? change psu ( currently generic dell one) Still have around 150$ in my budget. also a good cheap wireless mechanical keyboard suggestion. anything else i can do?
  6. Budget (including currency): Cheap as possible Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Other details Currently running a core duo q9400, stock psu just looking to run sims,RuneScape, maybe fortnite. computer was free from work and I have a GTX1650 oc already. https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1650OC-4GD#kf
  7. I've just started a job as tech support for the high schools in my county and I've come across a bit of a challenge. In my school's media center we have 8 nearly decade old OptiPlexes all with 4GB of RAM and spinning HDD. They've been getting a lot of tickets for being slow since at idle the utilization is 100% for the HDD and 85%-90% of the RAM. My immediate thought is to upgrade the drives and memory, however we may not have funding to replace parts or computers. We found some other computers in our school that work better and we may replace those so my second thought is to cannibalize some of the OptiPlexes we replace to upgrade the memory and configure the remaining slower computers into RAID0. Can anyone confirm whether or not they've been able to configure on a hardware level RAID0 on OptiPlex models 3010 and 3040?
  8. Hey there, Anyone here have any experience with dell optiplex lineup? i have a dell optiplex 7090 11th Gen And i'm trying to use the front Audio Jack (It's Headphone Microphone Combo) To connect headphones and no matter what it doesn't detect any input from the microphone The Headphone I'm Trying to use works on other devices like my friends PC or my laptop without any problem I've installed all the drivers from dell official website and still no luck. anyone ever encountered the same problem or have this issue or is there any possible fix?

  10. Hello. My computer was hit by lightning, it came through the lan cable, mobo fried. Custom pc, asus 1150 mobo, i7 4770. So I've got a dell optiplex mobo 48DY8 on ebay, I have read the info about various pinouts and headers present in dell cases. However since the motherboard I acquired is new, it prompts the Dell Service Menu with the AMT options and service tag input. It says that the service tag cannot be changed after it is set, I am afraid I can mess things up. I have no clue what to do here. Please advice. Thank you.
  11. So, recently, I purchased an Optiplex 990. It came with a 500w PSU, so I thought it would be able to handle my R7 260X. I put it in, and nothing. I update the bios, I switch to a 600W PSU, and nothing. So, I make sure that it's not a gpu problem, so I plug the 260x into another PC, and it works. So, to see if the PCIE slot is bad, I plug another GPU into the 990, an HD 6570, and it shows up in BIOS. So, I plug in the 260x back in, and it shows up at boot, but disappears when I get into Windows, and then when I restarted the PC, it never showed up in BIOS again. I even tried Linux to see if it would recognize the card, but no. I'm at a loss. The GPU is fine, the slot is fine, the PSU is fine, I don't understand what's happening. Any help is appreciated!
  12. So I am like $300 USD on budget so what can I do? -optiplex with i5 8th gen or higher and decent gpu GTX 970, GTX 780, rx 570, rx 580, rx 590, rx 6500XT, GTX (1650 to 1660 ti) -5600g or other modern APUs -want to play fh5 1080p (30fps minimum)
  13. Hey! Me and some friends have a not so small Minecraft server which I host at home. I'm looking to purchase a server to keep at home running 24/7. Ive seen a couple of really cheap servers on Amazon. I do know that an Optiplex with an i5 or i7 could do well but once I'm done with the Minecraft server I'll just have an Optiplex. I would like to get into the server world and tinker with it. The Minecraft server we are running is a Bungeecord based spigot server on 1.18.2 with around 15 plugins. There are actually 4 different servers on it. 2 Skyblock servers a flatworlt for redstone builds and the actual SMP. There can be 15 to 20 players online at any given point. Right now is running on an Alienware 17 R3 laptop. Would this server be able to run this and expand what we already have?
  14. Budget (including currency): $500 ish. Flexible if it will make a big difference. Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: RS3, Minecraft, Media Management Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hey everyone, Got this for free, and it is in good condition just missing the drive currently. Kind of a PC noob here, but it is an Optiplex 7050, and says 7th gen i& vPro on the front of the case? Pretty sure it will need a new power supply to run a graphics card. Also ssd's (I believe there is an m.2 slot as well as sata connections?), more ram 32 or 64gb? I'd like to make it a decently capable machine, but it won't be my main PC. Will live in my workshop / garage, for some gaming, media management and playback, and research for car parts and wiring diagrams. Other details from case: Reg Model: D18M Reg Type: D18M003 Dell Optiplex 7050 Tower It doesn't currently have a drive so I can't boot it for more info. Though I will of course order an SSD for it. What other info would I need to provide? Here are a couple photos of the inside of the case, including the ssd connectors and ram modules. https://imgur.com/a/ZGxdbWb What kind of graphics card could I put into this thing? Also what about maximum ram config? Sorry for what are probably very simply questions and thank you in advance!!
  15. I have an old optiplex pc in my closet, 4th gen i5, 8gb ddr3, an insanely slow hdd Figured I might as well use it as a minecraft server and basically keep it on 24/7. Hypixel's survival SMP servers suck balls, constant crashes and items disheartening, entity chunk render distance is shit, no mods, etc. Public free server hosting (tried a year ago) is bad with ping and start up is annoying as someone has to go to the website to turn it on with a minute wait. Anyways, trying to set up the server without port forwarding cuz it sounds like it's a no bueno I've seen 2 options without Port Forwarding Radmin VPN, I make network, anytime player wants to play, launch vpn, click to join network, then they can join minecraft server Ngrok: Player will have to change the Server IP in minecraft because the public address resets in Ngrok every time I restart Ngrok/server pc Does anyone know of any other alternatives where the Player never has to use a vpn or change the server IP? On a seperate note, If anyone knows a really good minecraft server customization guide/wiki, like chaning the little image, name, making a spawn area that can't be messed with, whitelist players, stuff like this, please let me know
  16. I have a optiplex 990 with i7-2600 and 200W psu what graphics card is best for my pc
  17. This is a challenge that I have to do with a couple of friends for a 500 dollar prize pool. I need all of the items to be located in Victoria and or shippable for a reasonable price. I saw an add for a radion 5870 for 2 bucks working so if you can find a full sized optiplex for under 30 bucks that would be great. Btw there are extra points for the most money that you save. I will be responding to all replys
  18. I'll take any of the following low-profile and low-power (as in, does not require 6-pin power) cards. GTX 1650 GTX 1050 ti GTX 1050 GTX 950 RX 560/560X (if it is compatible, which I'm not sure of)
  19. My optiplex 9020 wont turn on but the fans spin and the light on the power button won’t turn on the psu fan is also spinning if you could help I would be very grateful
  20. Hi, everyone, I have a slight problem. I'm on a really tight budget and need a pc. I want to buy an optiplex (the SFF 3010 with an i5) and add a graphics card (gtx 1650) and more RAM. However, down the line, I want to change all of it's components into new, good stuff and leave the case to make it a bit of a sleeper, so here is my question: will that be possible? I know it would with a standard sized one, but i prefer the SFF asthetic, plus they're cheaper so I could get a better monitor or something. Thanks for the replies in advance. By the way this is my first forum post ever, so it may not be done as is normal here.
  21. So i was thinking about the LTT video on the Dell Optiplex gaming system, and how Linus suggested the GTX 1650 for the low profile Optiplex systems, like the Optiplex 7010, which is the one i have, but checking my power supply, it says 100-250V~/4A 50-60Hz, then i saw "Maximum continuous total DC output power shall not exceed 240W". The GTX 1650 LP goes from 75-300W according to sources. Is this something i need to worry about before buying this card? Are there any other good cards i can throw in my system? Or can i still go with this card?
  22. This was my first build and my entry into PC gaming, I got a cheap Dell Optiplex 3010 and added parts that would be reusable along the line. I was on a budget and didn't want to spend too much just in case I wasn't going to end up committing to the PC gaming scene, but now I am hooked and its time for an upgrade. Games I play most: Overwatch, CS:GO, Hitman 1/2, The Witcher 3, Fallout 76, Civ VI and Destiny 2. Current specs: i5-3450 @3.1hz Dell 042P49 motherboard 8gb CorsairValue Select ddr3 @1600mhz GTX 1650 Super Corsair 550m psu 120gb Kingston SSD for OS 240gb crucial SSD for small games i play often (Overwatch, CS:GO, etc.) 2tb external WD HDD @5400rpm (Don’t hate! I was on a budget and I already had one of these bad boys in a drawer) All of this in a stock optiplex case. I’m currently using the LG 25um58-p 21:9 @60hz (Capable of 74hz in 1920x1080 but there’s no point as I’d rather have the 21:9) I plan to keep this monitor for the time being until a larger upgrade (read: GPU upgrade) would warrant a 144hz monitor. I’ve definitely noticed CPU bottle-necking when playing some games. I would want to put in around $250 USD towards upgrades at this time. (I can potentially spend some more if it’s worth it but I’d like to keep it under $300 for now) Upgrade path in order would be: Case (needed for motherboard upgrade?) Motherboard Needed for cpu upgrade? Having USB 3.0 and 6gb/s SATA would be a nice upgrade Hard drive my 5400rpm external is just real slow CPU not sure what would pair well with 1650 super but still be "future proof" something that would not be a future bottleneck if I end up upgrading my GPU RAM The jump to 16gb would be real nice GPU Farther down the line most likely (I am not going to be doing all of these at once, just little by little to slowly improve my gaming experience over time) Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do first and which parts would work well and serve well for the future? I am new at this so that is why I have come to you for help! Any suggestions, correction or advice would be greatly appreciated!
  23. I have a sff dell Optiplex 780 and was wondering if there was a sff graphics card i could put into it? just was wondering if anyone had anything they knew off of the top of their head. Thanks!
  24. The optiplex 980 that I have has: i7 870 16gp ddr3 fury gt 710 psu 235 (stock with the computer) ssd 750evo 250gb Now, I was looking to squeeze my gpu capabilities I had in mind 1050, 1050ti, 1030 but I don't know exactly if the PSU will survive with any of those 1050s... and if it won't bottleneck to the point of being useless to upgrade to them. EDIT: added 2 pics
  25. Hey, guys. Recently, I just purchased an old Dell OptiPlex 980 that was guaranteed to boot up and loaded up Windows 7. Up until recently, things were fine. But since that time about a week ago since I put the machine through its paces, it's blue screened on me 6 separate times. It's going the way of my last computer, a Dell OptiPlex 780 that couldn't even read the RAM I gave it properly without crashing over and over and would crash multiple times before finally stabilizing. Please. I need help with this. I don't know what's going on and I fear this PC is going the same way my last one did and that ended up being a nightmare. I need some serious help with this. There are generally three causes for a corruption: 1) A driver has inadvertently or deliberately modified critical kernel code or data. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/kernel/64bitPatching.mspx 2) A developer attempted to set a normal kernel breakpoint using a kernel debugger that was not attached when the system was booted. Normal breakpoints, "bp", can only be set if the debugger is attached at boot time. Hardware breakpoints, "ba", can be set at any time. 3) A hardware corruption occurred, e.g. failing RAM holding kernel code or data.
