Is it possible to connect(vpn) to a pfsense box running openvpn server while it is connected to PIAVPN?
-
So here’s the problem, on tp link settings I can use openvpn by generating a certificate as you may know. I’ve done the process exactly how they tell my in their how to by generating a certificate before clicking on the “use vpn” selection. I’ve generated multiple certificates with different service ports = 1194, 1198, 8089. Continuously fails every time. I’m out of ideas and I already tried to talk with tp link support and you can already guess how far that got me. I’m using the latest openvpn but on a windows 7 pc if that could be the problem let me know. Is there any other method I can use? Also I’m using Private Internet Access as my vpn provider. Any other way to have PIA on the router I would love to know. Thank you. The only video that explain what I’m trying to do but his doesn’t fail! The how to https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1239/

Having tried OpenVPN on both Linux and Windows for a bit, I am rather disappointed of its apparent lack of a killswitch or auto-connect feature. Often, when using OpenVPN, I just get disconnected from the VPN server without warning so my browsing traffic is suddenly unencrypted and it becomes a guessing game of which server to connect to instead. However, I am planning to switch to an Arch-based Linux distro that doesn't support the app for my VPN (which is only installed from a .deb file). So I wonder if anybody has ever found a way to get around the problems I mentioned - maybe program a custom killswitch or auto-connect script or something. Anyone? Thanks.

HI All, I am stuck with the ISP modem/roter and I want to use a second router wtih VPN capabilities, but I cannot get the OpenVPN server to work. Please do not suggest to put the first router as bridge as I have tried and it is not possible. This is My Network configuration so far: Modem Router 1: Telstra Netgear V7610. Gets Internet signal from a phone line (ADSL?) It has 2 VOIP phone lines for the office. Fix WAN IP XX.XXX.XX.XX DHCP: ON DHCP Range: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200 LAN IP: 192.168.0.1 DMZ Server on: 192.168.0.3 Port forward 22523 to Router 2 on 192.168.0.3 Router 2 Asus RT AC88U Connected to modem 1 on LAN port 1 to LAN port 1 on Asus. Assigned LAN IP as 192.168.0.3 DHCP server OFF OpenVPN server ON with port UDN 22523. My question now: 1.With DMZ pointing to the Asus Router do I need to connect the ASUS router using its WAN port? 2.Do I need to setup WAN IP address of asus as our Public IP address? or the Local IP of the V7610? 3.Since the Azus Router is in the DMZ now, Do I still need to do port forwarding port 22523 to Asus router? 192.168.0.3? or maybe this is causing an issue and I need to delete this port fwd from V7610 table? I can connect to the open VPN server if I am in the local network. but id does not work if I am offsite (My phone hotspot). I'd appreciate any help.

To start, these guides aren't mine and aren't written by me. they're written by Lukyp, who since left the forum, and wanted to keep the guides, so i offered to repost them as a central thread. these might get updated. but when asking questions/giving suggestions, it can take a while [Guide] Best gaming setup on Linux desktop and Laptops [GUIDE] Linux PCI GPU VFIO Passthrough [GUIDE] Set up a OpenVPN Server on Windows [GUIDE] Solving most common Linux issues - FAQ, general troubleshooting megathread reference, noob friendly

Hi, I'm trying to get openvpn working on 443 tcp. It does work when I connect to the local ip, but when I try to connect to the public ip it doesn't work. I can't connect to the public ip on the local network and other networks.Everything is port forwarded correctly. But on udp 1194 it does work correctly on public/local. When I tried forwarding my esxi for testing if it's maybe a bug that I can't forward 443, it just worked fine. I removed that port forward and recreated the openvpn port forward, but it didn't work. Pictures: (It's dutch)

Ok so I am adding some VPN locations to my Asus RT-AC5300 (asuswrt). Only issue is that the Router caps me at a limit of 5 OpenVPN profiles. I have 8 profiles that I like to pick from and use from time to time. I have checked and the router has the resources to take another 3 OpenVPN profiles, but the limit cap is stopping me. I can enable telnet and gain access into the router linux based OS but I don't know where to find the configuration file that sets the limit to 5 so I could change it. Anyone able to help me ?

I currently have my network configured to directly RDP into my primary machine, which is a bit of a vulnerability. I've also got an OpenVPN server on a raspberry pi which works great for RDP but isn't an option at work or on most other computers I may want to connect from, as all of my traffic will go through the VPN, which is not desirable. What I'd love to do is restrict the VPN so that it only protects the RDP connection and routes all other traffic normally. Better yet, it'd be great if I could have a portable openvpn client, complete with a certificate, on a thumbdrive that I can connect to any computer (I'd only do this on trusted devices, just ones that I can't install apps on, such as a friend's pc). Is there any feasible way of accomplishing this?

Hey all, First time poster! I am having an issue assessing my shares through open vpn that is running with duck dns. I can access my shares if I am on my home network, but cannot when i am on the road. ( same problem if i try to remote into my vm to gain access) i can get to the web ui from open vpn and ping the server. I think its a windows network sharing or firewall issue. If anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated! Need to solve this issue so I can troubleshoot my plex docker from not starting.

So to begin lets assume I'm a networking dummy, so any follow-on advice please break it down "Barney Style". I built a mini-itx pc inside a Velka 3. Installed Pfsense. Used some beginner Youtube videos and online guides. I also used PIA's pfsense guide to get a VPN up an running. However one problem: When the server drops out I'm left without internet and this really sucks during online game play. So what I'm getting at is I need help setting up my pfsense so that it has failover to other PIA servers. fyi: I tried using a rough guide that used vpn interfaces and gateway groups. I think I probably over complicated the firewall rules and NAT. Please help!

Hi! I am trying to configure OpenVPN on my router so that all of the devices connected to my home WI-FI network go through CyberGhost VPN. I have downloaded the configuration file for OpenVPN from CyberGhost's website, but honestly, now I do not know what to do with it, since I do not see any option on my router to upload a configuration file. I have attached a screenshot of my router's OpenVPN page. BTW, my TP-Link router is connected to my modem and I'm not sure if I should configure it through the modem, since I do not see any sort of VPN option in the modem's settings. Thanks in advance!

I was wondering if this router actually has OpenVPN Server or not. https://www.digitalcitizen.life/reviewing-asus-rt-ac1200g-one-best-affordable-routers-you-can-buy-today?page=1 This review says: VPN Server - you can set the router to work as a VPN server and you can also use it to turn your network-connected devices into VPN-enabled clients via OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP protocols without additional VPN software required. So, is the OpenVPN only for the client? Or for both server and client? Asus website isn't also very clear https://www.asus.com/Networking/RT-AC1200G-plus/overview/ Anyone has this router and knows?

Hello, I am trying to get my DD-WRT router at my college to connect to my personal pfSense OpenVPN server at home. The server on pfSense is setup and fully functional, connecting with my computer or phone works just fine, however, DD-wrt refuses to connect with zero logs to go off of. The server is configured as remote access which I think should work. I don't know if I'm missing anything in my client config or if there is an incompatibility between DD-wrt and my server. I'm still pretty new to VPN configurations and what each little option means. I have the client ovpn file contents appended below. How exactly am I supposed to input this information into DD-WRT? #-- Config Auto Generated By pfSense for Viscosity --# #viscosity startonopen false #viscosity dhcp true #viscosity dnssupport true #viscosity name Remote Access dev tun persist-tun persist-key cipher AES-256-CBC ncp-ciphers AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM auth SHA512 tls-client client resolv-retry infinite remote <URL> 53 tcp-client verify-x509-name "<NAME>" name auth-user-pass remote-cert-tls server <ca> -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- <CA> -----END CERTIFICATE----- </ca> <cert> -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- <CERTIFICATE> -----END CERTIFICATE----- </cert> <key> -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- <PRIVATE KEY> -----END PRIVATE KEY----- </key> <tls-auth> # # 2048 bit OpenVPN static key # -----BEGIN OpenVPN Static key V1----- <STATIC KEY> -----END OpenVPN Static key V1----- </tls-auth> key-direction 1

Hello guys, I am new user of OpenVPN. I have a question regarding Tracing from google, it can guess whats my main language and when I type "whats my location" it shows my real place. My main task is to solve this problem. Here is my setup : VPS server in Netherlands with Ubuntu, configured OpenVPN server with all CA and etc. Local I have got Mikrotik Rb2011 main router with 192.168.1.1/24 , ESXI Server where I have 2 Virtual Machines ( Linux Ubuntu and Windows Server 2019 ( for Domain controller and file sharing ) ) . On Linux I have configured OpenVPN which connects to VPS in Netherlands and it works perfect, I have different IP. On Linux I have ens160 (192.168.1.76 network connected to Mikrotik) , ens192 (10.20.20.1 connected to Switch, which spreads network at office devices) + tun0 ( 10.10.10.2 ). On Win server I have also 2 adapters, 1 connected to Mikrotik and 2nd connected to Switch with 10.20.20.200 IP ( So it is domain controller for other devices ). Also Wifi devices are conneted to this Switch so Mobiles also have Netherlands IP address. If I google "whats my location" from device which is connected to any VPN client on any location, it shows VPN's location. But If I google without VPN client, it shows my real location. Please suggest me what to do Top

I have a VPN tunnel set up so I can access my home network from anywhere else. Simple setup through PFsense. I have 4 devices (Proxmox server, FreeNAS, Plex, Nextcloud) that I need to reach through the VPN. All of their IPs are static and saved by the DHCP server on PFsense. 3 of them I can reach no problem through the tunnel, but I cannot ping, ssh, or access the WebUI for Proxmox. All of them are in the same IP range 192.168.0.0/24, and the tunnel connects to this same address range. Things I have tried: Changing the IP (was originally 0.3, changed to 0.103 and 0.203 with no luck) wireshark pcap said network traffic (No useable data as it's encrypted in the VPN) recreating the VPN over a different port (no change) Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm happy to take any assistance or ideas you may have.

Hello Guys, I have a question regarding Tracing from google. I have OpenVPN connection between Virtual Linux server and VPS, everything works great and my External IP is different, but when I search in Google : " What s my location " , it exactly shows my place. I have Disabled Location of browser, Desktop, server, have changed Timezone but nothing works. After this I have connected to one of VPN providers and checked in Google : " What s my location ", and the location was exactly where vpn server has been located. Now I cannot get why my configured OpenVPN doesn't work same way. Can u guys suggest me ?

Hi all, I would like to use my pfsense machine as my router (actually just as a switch) and as a vpn server for remote access. I managed to setup a vpn service on it before and I found out how to bridge multiple LAN networks on different ethernet ports together (putting stuff in any of the 4 extra ethernet ports ends up in the same lan network 192.168.200.0 so the LAN bridging works) but i cant find out how to merge the VPN server into the LAN so that when I connect to the VPN I'm the same LAN network as my NAS that is attached to the LAN. I tried using this solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/3hql33/configuring_openvpn_bridge_with_local_dhcp/ Below are the settings that should bridge the VPN into the LAN but I cannot reach the VPN server. What am I doing wrong? OpenVPN server settings: Bridge settings:

Hello everyone, so I was watching the router unboxing and Linus says at 24:55 that they use IPSec. So that made me wonder, why not use OpenVPN instead?

Hi.I am wondering if openVPN good for this kind of use.I have a NAS with all my family photos, family videos and some torrented movies(not gna lie), but primarily im using it to share photos etc.I've hosted openVPN on my NAS, downloaded the certificate etc. and just copied it to their computer. I have also mapped up the network drives, to make it easy for my parents to use. So all they have to do is launch the openvpn sw, type in username/password and they're good to go.Is openVPN secure enough for this kind of use? I ofc dont even want my ISP to be able to see the traffic thats going from my router. I've read that openVPN doesnt even expose the pattern or fingerprints of what type of traffic is coming off my router either. If openVPN isnt the best one for this, what else can I use? Thanks in advance!

I have completed the setup of OpenVpn on my raspberry pi. I am able to connect successfully and access the internet as if I'm browsing from home. My problem is that I have a network share that I want to be able to access while connected to the VPN, but the clients are unable to see this network share or any other devices on the network except for the device itself. I have noticed that when my laptop is connected to my home network, these are it's connection settings: IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.12.19 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.12.254 While connected through the VPN my laptop has: IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.43.11 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.43.1 The raspberry pi has a static ip address of 192.168.12.18 I would really appreciate any help as I'm really stuck. Hi all, I've set up an OpenVPN server on my Pfsense machine and I've also bridged 4 etherports on 2 dualport NICs together and assigned an IP range to it. I can use my pc to access my nas on the LAN network so that works fine and I'm also able to connect to my OpenVPN server, but I cannot reach anything in my LAN from a device connected to the VPN. I set the LAN network as the network that should be accessible from the VPN and I've also tried "push route" as custom option but nothing seems to work. The LAN(bridge), WAN and OpenVPN firewall rules all contain an any to any rule. I used to use this server with only a WAN interface and have everything hooked up to my router and that worked fine, what am I doing wrong now?

Hello everyone, I have been trying my luck at setting up OpenVPN on a Windows Server, but have failed thus far. I think I managed to set up the server part, but had a lot of trouble getting the client side to work. I think the fault was in the config file which I then wouldn't use with the client. I used this guide and was okay on the server side (I think), but he uses a mac for a client and I have a windows computer. Could anyone help me setting up the config file so I can connect to the server? I am unsure which files I need to move to the client PC. Thanks in advance!
