  1. Budget (including currency): £1000 - £1,750 GBP Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: So essentially i am looking for a smaller form factor, multi-taksing productivty/media machine that can push a lot of pixels/displays, not make much noise doing it but wont be expected to be powerful enough to game or do editing or 3d work. More specifically; Workload will consist of general productivity & media consumption, nothing more..so multiple browser tabs, 4k 60 video streaming, Teams meetings, medium scale Excel data worksheets, MS Office applications, etc but potentially many of these things at once! No gaming, photo/video editing, no 3D design, no video editing. The build must be capable of powering 3 external displays - 2 X 4k & 1x1440p (would be nice to have the headroom for all 3 to be 4k) without using a dock of any kind. The displays must run at 60hz minimum, as no gaming will be happening, higher refresh rates than 60hz would be a bonus. I would like something as smaller form factor as possible but not at the cost of significant performance or noise profile degredation. Ideally i would like to mount the device to the underside of my desk but comprimises can be made here if needed. Essentially i need whatever will be driving this to not be struggling and constantly running loud fans. Noise is very important to me, i need this to be pretty quiet. So something that can have some headroom above the load i have described i assume? Windows OS ASSUMPTIONS (that could easily be wrong): A high end ultrabook with the latest intergrated graphics couldn't power this or would at least be struggling and noisy. A gaming laptop could power this but the form factor will mean the thermal performance will not be great and it will get loud just from pushing the pixels?? (plus I would be paying for the form factor i don't even need as i wouldnt use it as a laptop. A "full on" gaming PC would be overkill and for what i need No idea how to spec this as im relative noob and not sure how realistic my ask here is but thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
  2. I can't seem to find a reliable ESD table mat. Yes I know you don't have to worry to much about frying your systems and all. But I like to make sure I don't screw up. Also would like if someone explained to me how to ground myself step by step since I'm unsure on the topic. I already watched a bunch of videos but I don't trust my self to mess it up somehow or get myself killed trying to ground myself. The case I own is painted so I can't clip it to that.
  3. Hello world. I just built my pc (totally noob) when I start it up nothing lights up expect for the ram. The motherboard lights up but turns off. Fans aren’t lighting up nor spinning.
  4. Hello, I recently made some upgrades to my computer (it was basically a rebuild, the only parts that remained the same were the GPU, PSU, and the storage). It began freezing when under heavy load (max settings Elden Ring), I could not Ctrl Alt Delete or open task manager, but I could still speak with people on discord while it was locked. The only thing I could do was hold down the power button to turn it off. The freezing began to get worse, locking on Apex Legends and eventually even on Civ 6. Things I have done to attempt to solve the problem: I got the new drivers for my GPU and motherboard and updated the motherboard BIOS I reseated the RAM and GPU I purchased a new 850 W PSU (I needed a new one any way) I ran a windows memory diagnostic I looked at the thermals at the time of the crash, the GPU and CPU never got above 65C I accidently upgraded to windows 11 I tried to look at the event viewer but the only critical error I saw was caused by me holding the power button down and the rest was nonsense to my smooth brain None of this helped. This is only the second computer I have ever built, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. 5. Budget (including currency): Country: australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: tarkov Other details: OK so ladies and gentlebugs im looking at upgrading certains part of my pc as im bored, im looking at installing a ASRock Z690 Steel Legend Motherboard in my CORSAIR CARBIDE 275R Mid-Tower Gaming Case Black case and installing a 17 12700k in the motherboard Ive gone with this board for 2 reasons, Ive only recently invested in 32gb of ddr4 3600 ram and dont want to have to upgrade that again and recently also upgraded my cooler to a Corsair Hydro H100x Hydro Series Liquid CPU Cooler. Im hoping i dont have to upgrade my cooler to a new one to fit the new cpu but i also dont want me being a tight ass to affect my cpu performace so if you guys can assist me in the compatibilty of my whole plan and see if its all going to work together considering im trying to retro fit my shiz thanks
  6. Budget (including currency): Budget is negotiable but in the cheaper field ILS Country: Israel Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, valorant and other various games but not many other big name titles. this will also be used as my normal workstation Other details: i have a headphone with microphone and a speaker so i need 2 aux ports, HP 22fw display. im going to upgrade the gpu and cpu in the future. buying in August. 1920 by 1080 resolution and 60 Hz (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):
  7. Budget (including currency): up to $250 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (Modded Skyrim and Fallout, Anno, maybe some shooters), Streaming (mentioned games and living room concerts), Video Editing (Adobe Premiere), Music Production I have picked some parts so far for my rig, but right before I bought an Asus PRIME Z690-P WIFI D4, newegg put a lot of Mobos on sale and now al ot of them are right around the same price which gives me a few more options around the 220 range. Parts for my build: CPU - Intel 12700K Cooler - Scythe Fuma 2 Storage- SK Hynix P31 1TB (was considering a 980 Pro if I had Gen 4 on the board) GPU - EVGA 2080 Super FTW3 RAM- Corsair Vengeance 3600 CL18 Case - Lian Li O11 Air Mini The motherboard that I'm now stuck picking between due to being on sale are: GIGABYTE Z690 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4 $216 ASUS Prime Z690-P WiFi D4 $225 ASRock Z690 Steel Legend WiFi 6E. $200 MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 $215 ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI $250 I need WiFi, and I'd prefer to have it on the board rather than getting a separate card unless there's a highly recommended strategy for that. I also want to do some beginner exploration into medium CPU and RAM overclocking and such, so I'd prefer a better VRM over a less suitable one. I plan on installing several hard drives down the line to run in RAID for storage and backup. I originally had picked the MSI Pro Z690A Wifi since it was recommended by GN as the best value. That was before the sales I found. Depending on what Raptor Lake ends up offering, some of my parts may end up going to my brother for Christmas, but I'd prefer not needing to replace the mobo because of the new processor. As it stands, I was thinking of picking the Gigabyte Aorus 690 Elite. It seems to have a better VRM, some extra SATA ports, 4 high speed M.2 NVMEs, and a fair amount of hi-speed USB connectors. As a musician, I know I'll be using up a lot of the hi-speed USB to prevent latency with my instruments and interfaces. I've heard alot about ASUS having a much better BIOS which would be nice since I'm new to overclocking. Any input as to how much less convenient the Gigabyte BIOS is would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know all the thoughts and experience you can as to which board you'd recommend and why! As it stands the Aorus looks pretty good, but I'm sure that you all can give me a ton of insight as to why my thoughts are misguided or somehow correct lmao Thanks for taking the time to read this and for your help! Let me know if there's any more information I can provide. The thread I made with more details of my situation are here : -GokuGogo
  8. Hello, everybody! As usual- apology if I am pasting this in the wrong forum, but from what I found this seems to be the place. I am trying to create a database that has two "main" tables of information- one containing the info of all the workers (name, occupation and so on, just basic info), and the other containing all the hardware the workplace poses- something like an inventory/log book with types, models and full (where applicable) specs of the machines (be they laptops, printers etc.). Along side this I wish there are a few "slave" tables with information about specific changes to X and Y machines. First of all I have never created actual databases only excel tables with different filters, conditional formatting and a few basics formulas here and there. I've been hitting my head against the wall for a few days now, trying to create an actual database. Currently using LibreOffice Base for it, but I am not sure how suitable this is. My end goal is something like this: The user loads up the database and he has two lists: of the workers and of the hardware- if he clicks a worker he sees all the hardware he poses and uses. And if he clicks a hardware he sees who posses it alongside some info/history of the machine- who used it before, what changes have been made to it and so on. As of right now I managed to create a database with single master- the hardware so when I click on a machine I see who uses it, but for the life of me I can't get it the other way around at the same time. Does my idea make any sense in the world of databases or should I rethink it from the ground up? Is a database really what I need here, or some other way of keeping track of it all would suffice? Is LibreOffice suitable for the task? Thank you all in advance, and sorry if I've used wrong terms/words and whatnot (English isn't my main language) or if it seems like I am looking for the easy way out. I've tried coming up with the answer myself, but at this point I am just stuck.
  9. Recently bought a prebuilt to do upgrades on that came w Win10 Pro. This is my first time doing upgrades & I'm trying to switch the boot drive from a 2TB HDD to a 500gb SSD but my biggest question is how do I safely do this without loosing the OEM license (as I do not actually have the product key) I have never signed into my Microsoft acc on this pc either as I prefer to use a local account, so I don't know about linking the license. Asking here because everything I read seems to tell me something different. some sites say windows will recognize the hardware signature of your system and automatically activate, others say you have to be logged in to your Microsoft acc for that to work. Please..help a noob out.
  10. Hello! So I have a pair of LS41 headphones I was given. Issue is they are stereo without an optical port? Issue is I don't have optical on my board(B450 ROG Strix-I) and as it's ITX I can't expand it. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a good solid preferably cheaper USB soundcard so I can turn on the "full surround" mode I'm told this makes a giant difference in audio quality having them connected by optical, but if anyone knows better I'm all ears!
  11. I am new to the server space. I got this server at a goodwill and it was a spur of the moment purchase and I did not have a plan can anyone help.
  12. Hello, I've been meaning to upgrade my home network, I've been using Google's Wi-Fi mesh network for about part of 2 years now, but I faced a lot of maintenance issues with them (wi-fi & Lan speeds dropping etc...) and so after 2 years and 2 unresponsive hubs I decided to look for a new networking solution. So after watching the recent Short-Circuit YouTube video on the ASUS Zen WIFI Pro ET12 Router I decided It would be a suitable replacement and the reviews where great on it so I decided to pull the trigger. It's been 2 weeks after installation of the New Wi-Fi mesh system, my WIFI speeds are absolutely Amazing! I'm getting almost 800 GB/s on downloads and about 300 MBPS on uploads but on the other hand my Lan speeds are horrible! I'm receiving about 1 GB/s on downloads (Amazing) but receiving 1-5 MBPS on upload speeds (Bruh). I've tried countless network restarts, entire modem & mesh resets, new land cables and numerous devices. I'm absolutely stumped and have no idea what todo. Somethings about my network: Verizon Fiber Gigabyte plan 4 different Mesh points around my home. I do require LAN connections for some equipment in my home like the camera systems so it's crucial to have at least decent upload speeds over LAN. I would greatly Appreciate any help/Suggestions. Thank you! I've attached some screenshot's for reference.
  13. First of all NOOB here regarding this stuff but can follow instructions to the point if given clearly. Need help setting up the HTTPS settings for my server for which I don't even know where to begin? there are guides but almost all of them are for Linux and if they are for windows they are not clear and jump a lot of steps. So need a guide for windows user My current use is just limited to just a couple of machines on my local network but I do have to travel from time to time and not having that padlock up there in the address bar bothers me so that's why. P.s. I do have a .com domain which I use for my online business and if needed be I that can be used somehow (I don't know how useful this info will be)
  14. i am moving my home server form truenas server to a proxmox server with a truenas vm but idk how to move all the data off the old server to the new. i think i can just take the config file and drives from the old server pass through the drives to the vm and load the config file and that will work but again i don't know every time i google this i get answers so things similar on what im trying to do but exact so plz let me know if just passing the drive to the vm and loading the config file or if the is a better way

    New PC

THE NOOB! Finally building my first PC after a years of using already build desktops. Excited!! Can't wait for all my parts to be ordered. I know I will probably mess a couple things up, but that's just part of learning. My case has already been shipped here and I'm thinking of painting it a nice flat white color. I like white for basically everything and I believe it will stand out when I move into my dorm this year. The computer won't be the best out there, but for gaming and modding, it should be just fine. Maybe I'll start a gaming channel on Youtube, but there is so many that I don't know how popular mine would be. Or even a BMX channel would be fun to do. I'll sleep on it and decide this week.
  17. Hello everyone, Thank you in advance to those who help out. I've been thinking about getting a console... Freeze right there, I now understand the potential (and superiority) of PCs over consoles. Now that I know where I want to direct my gaming platform, I now need to get a reasonable gaming PC build that I can play the current and upcoming AAA games. I do play greenlight games from Steam, but for all intents and purposes, I'm looking for a gaming PC that I can exclusively use for gaming, and continue using for at least longer than the PS4 will be around. Ultimately, getting a PC better than the PS4 is my goal. I know that PCs are (can) be better than consoles, so I want to put something together that will beat the PS4, and still be awesome by the time the PS4 is replaced by whatever Sony releases. Now, as a disclosure: I'm new to PC building, but I do have a very smart friend who will help me... from my item list, I hope that shows some degree of aptitude of component knowledge- Linus Tech tips and a lot of other YouTube videos have helped... To give a good example of my "noobness", I found out what ATX means today. All this "noobness" aside, I always put my all into whatever I do, so I want to learn, I want to do this right, and I want to play freakin' GTA V on high/ultra-mofo settings. haha SO. With all that said, I gave my best shot at finding components that I need, but it came out to about $2000 (I don't think I missed anything, the PCpicker list was full)... Hopefully the wonderful people of PCPARTPICKER forums can enlighten me to where I went wrong, and perhaps even some better suggestions. For a benchmark, here are the recommended req's from Steam's site for GTA V. OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1 Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHz (8 CPUs) Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD 7870 2GB Hard Drive: 65 GB available space Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible I like AMD because i've heard and read that it's a better bang for your buck, but if I'm wrong, feel free to suggest an Intel focused rig. I did that because I 1) think it's better to have more than less airflow, and 2) because I'd rather spend the money on a fan than just settle for higher temps in the case- the better long-term damage-preventative actions I can take, the better. Thank you

I've been informed that is one of the best places to ask about PC Builds, so here I am, hi everyone! 19. I know how to open my laptop, so let's get that out of the way. I have replaced the battery, it is 4 years old now, and went from 16g to 32g of RAM. Now I am looking to upgrade my M.2 SSD to a faster one. How would I transfer the files and boot from my current one to a new one? and any good new M.2 SSD recommendations would be POGGERS
  20. Budget (including currency): 2050usd Country: America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: clip studio paint, photoshop/creative cloud programs, Minecraft, Genshin impact Other details: I have a list of stuff already I’m just wondering if I need to get rid of/add anything to it. https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=afdf2bd8-81a6-473a-be3c-c454466e3dd2
  21. Before i start let me just say i've been building and using systems for years and have built up quite a knowledge of hardware from LGA 775 to now so i'm not an idiot... But when it comes to audio Ive got no clue mate. So based off my research and limited budget plus whats on drop right now i've settled for getting an MT-602 since it seem so fit what i want in terms of powering a pair of DT990's. I'm not an audiophile so i'm not going for the absolute best or whatever, for context i LOVED the sound of my Razer Kraken Kitty editions till they died so take that how you will. Now my only issue is awkward because it sounds dumb but, how exactly does the MT-602 connect to a PC? it has RCA input which as far as i can tell is the only input but my system being ITX doesn't have a sound card or anything that outputs RCA so am i supposed to use an adapter cable or is there a device that goes between my pc and the MT-602? i've no clue haha. (it'll be connected to a B450i Strix)
  22. Budget (including currency): TBD (USD) Country: U.S.A Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, VR, Red Dead Redemption 2, et cet Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): So, I know that getting a pre-built is typically frowned upon, or at least it was when I first purchased mine back in March of 2020. It has performed well beyond my expectations for the better part of 2 years. But, like always, looking to upgrade is just nature at this point. Current specs- (when when purchased) Motherboard - ASRock A320M-HDV R4.0 GPU - radeon rx 580 directx 12 4GB GDDR5 (there is an XFX printed on the side, not sure if that matters) CPU - ADM Ryzen 5 2600 6 cores 12 threads 3.4 GHz (3.9 GHz Max Boost) Memory - single stick 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz (can't see the brand without pulling the stick out sadly) Storage - 500gb 2.5 inch SSD PSU - 80 plus 500 Watt from thermaltake smart series Case - Thermaltake Versa N21, White Price of the prebuilt - $679.99 USD from Skytech Gaming (came with Windows 10 Pro instead of standard Windows 10. had no other place to put this part) Upgrades I have since added myself- I bought a second memory stick, identical in brand and model to the first stick so I could run my pc in duel channel memory at 16gb (though I am hopefully gonna be upgrading this at a later date) a 2tb M.2 SSD WD_black SN750 (a very stressful upgrade for me to perform as it took several attempts, which includes me having had to pull out my GPU and ram sticks in order to have enough clearance for my hands) Upgrades I plan to add- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X - replacing the ryzen 5 2600 Silicon Power 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 - replacing the 8x2 2400MHz sticks currently in my pc I am both incredibly new and incredibly weary of messing around with the internals of my PC. Less so for the ram as that is a pretty straightforward upgrade, but the CPU is one i'm terrified of messing with and I want to make sure I get absolutely everything correct beforehand before i make such a heavy investment. I also want to know if such an upgrade would necessitate an upgrade to my PSU, an upgrade I am even more terrified of performing. If i were going for a GPU upgrade, this might've been a bigger necessity, but with the CPU being the primary upgrade planned, I don't know if this is required. I've tried to look into this myself, but I am far from knowledgeable with this type of stuff and I've just ended up confusing myself more and more whenever I've attempted to. sorry for such a long post, I just know that having too many details can be a lot better than having not enough details to give an educated answer. TLDR - is the planned upgrade for my cpu and memory sticks supported with my current motherboard? and is a PSU upgrade going to be required with the cpu upgrade in mind?
  23. Now. I wanna start off with a simple "I don't know a lot about networking". To put it simply. I'll be getting myself 10gbit FTTH soon (next few weeks, waiting for contractor) and I'm wanting to put together a setup that works and can utilize the 10gbit Internet. Yes I mean internet not my LAN. Some info: Location is Switzerland I'll be going with init7 as my ISP with the Fiber7-X plan I'm getting nothing from my ISP, but I do have the option to get hardware if needed from them. Planning to use Fiber instead of Copper-DA I do intend to buy a small-ish server rack to put everything into. Budget is in the neighborhood of 1000$ (or swiss francs, It don't matter too much) I have no interest in WiFi at the moment, but I'd like to add it in the future The OTO (optical termination outlet) will be in the living room and the actual server rack I plan to put in another room entirely to not have any of the heat or noise near me, the run is roughly 30 meters between the OTO and the server rack's location. (without thinking about running it on the walls, so I'd say at-least 50m run if I run it between the two. The ISP recommends this transceiver They also have some info here and here Some questions I need answered that I'm unsure about: Do I still need a modem nowadays? What in terms of router/modem do I need to get it working? (I was thinking of getting a UDM Pro, but am option to options) What cables are required? What transceivers are required? Is there something to know about 10gbit internet that I might not think of? / Did I forget something critical?
  24. Budget (including currency): 2000$USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 3D modeling in Blender, Unity, Photoshop, Illustrator, Video editing, Music Writing & Editing, VRChat, & Minecraft Other details So this is my first ever official build. I have changed out parts on previous PCs and done a lot of weird tech work so this shouldn't be too far out of my range. My old acer laptop isn't keeping up with my workflow and it didn't support VR gaming so I've been looking to upgrade. It is very important to me that it can run VRchat and other VR games somewhat comfortably If it can't then I'll probably hold back from upgrading till I have the budget for it So with that in mind here's the PC part picker page https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mPPJyK (I'm hoping that's allowed to be posted here and works fine? If not I can type it out instead)
