Hey guys, So I am very new to the whole networking thing and was curious how I would set something up. I recently got a Raspberry Pi and am running Pi-hole. I also live in an apartment that has a lot of WiFi interference. Thus, our 4 man apartment is covered by two different routers (presumably each with their own modem, as all we get is a wall socket and the people that run the complex will not give us any indication of how the apartments are wired). I want to connect the two routers so that the people not using the router with the Pi-Hole can still use it. Is the solution as simple as buying a network switch and connecting the two? And then setting the non-Pi-hole router's DHCP settings to go through the Pi-Hole? I am also aware that I could run OpenVPN on the Pi-Hole and then they could just VPN to the Pi-Hole, but that seems like it would hit us double for data usage (we get severely throttled due to bad ISP and apartment complex going with the cheapest bidder). Thanks in advance

Hey, so I got a 1050ti Asus and im looking for another one and there is this one https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N105TOC-4GL#kf Its not the same brand but ive been told it wont matter. The thing that worries me is this whole "low profile" and "Low OC" (cant find this in the website but in the store): Will that affect hashrate when Im mining or will the output be the same as my other 1050ti asus?

Hello, I've been thinking of updating my rig after a long time but I've come up with some questions that I'm confused about. I have a NZXT Phantom case, the original (linked) and there is so little information and videos about it. I wondered if I could fit a 240 mm AIO liquid cooler or even a 280 mm ( kraken x62) since it looks roomy and I've seen some comments saying it needs special fans. I had in mind go with a i5 6800k and saw some decent motherboards but I'd like some recommendations with that as well ( 100-170 bucks budget). I'd appreciate it a lot if anyone with one could help to clear that out, thanks a lot! )

Ok so I'm trying to make my first ever gaming pc. Now I know there are about 23487346 build guides for this online, But I'm trying to do something a bit crazy. So my laptop has an Intel Core i7-5500U @ 2.40GHz, and I was wondering if it is viable to put that processor in my build so save a bit of money at first. (This wont be a permanent thing but rather something just to start with.) Please let me know if I sound dumb for trying to do this or if you think it could actually work

I recently acquired a PC that I plan to make my long-term project. It's a humble little thing. i5-4590, 8 GB DDR3, 500 GB HDD, no graphics card or even wifi/bluetooth. I figured I could add some RAM and a graphics card I had lying around (crummy, but still better than integrated). I opened the thing up, and was pleasantly surprised at just how modular it was. I'm so used to opening up laptops that this was a treat. Unfortunately, however, I also found that my my mobo isn't exactly up to snuff... only two DIMM slots and no space for the graphics card (not because there wasn't a slot, my case won't fit it). Unfortunately, being the noob that I am, I didn't understand that there are different types of RAM beyond the DDR versions. So the DDR3 RAM I had was SODIMM. To compound problems, this RAM is second-hand and untested, making selling more complicated. So now I have options. 1. I can try to find a new motherboard, which doesn't solve the RAM problem except for allowing me to install 32+ GB at some point. My current mobo has 1 PCIe 16x slot and a 1x slot. A new board could provide more slots. 2. Use these and run a system with 16 GB of RAM 3. Again use these to test the RAM, then sell and get some better DIMM 4. Sell the SODIMM untested for a lower price I'm leaning towards 2 or 3, but let me know what you think.

motherboard What motherboard to choose.
cookiebeast99 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello all of you. I am wondering what motherboard to buy. My components to the computer (I haven't buyed them yet) is the following: Asus Dual GeForce GTX 1070 OC grafikkort (8 GB) Intel Core i7 6700 Samsung 850 Evo MZ-75E500B 500GB Seagate FireCuda 2,5" 2TB Windows 10 (Not a component, I know) If you have any thoughts on what I have choosen let me know.So I am not just wondering about the motherboard, but primarly that. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have thought about changing the cpu and have decided to do that. So instead of using my Intel Core i7 6700 I am going to be using a Intel Core i7 7700k. And I would like to know if the Gigabyte GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming is a good choise for me? -
Hey all, So im currently buying all my parts, week by week. I have my MSI R7 250 here and im currently waiting on my Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming mobo and my CoolerMaster MasterBox Lite 5 (I know, crappy airflow, but after watching Luke's videos where he shoved a fucking wardrobe and some boxes into the build and seen virtually NO change in thermals, im not too worried about these components.) but im having some real difficulty deciding on a PSU and the RAM i want to use. I plan on using a Ryzen 5 1600 for this build and before anyone has a go at me for the crappy specs im picking, this build is specifically for streaming my PS4 gameplay with OBS and an Elgato, so while i would like to put more money into other aspects of the build, i need at least some money for the nessacary peripherals such as a mic, mic stand and a webcam (oh, and that elgato i mentioned). Everything else is taken care of but i really dont know what to do with a power supply i just about know the difference between modular and non-modular and all that jazz so if anyone has any useful information on what i should get, please please please inform me because next weeks shopping list is supposed to include the PSU the RAM and maybe a better CPU cooler than the included Wraith with my CPU if thats even necessary, as i wont really be OC'ing this baby..

Hey guys, Is it really necessary to overclock your ram to overclock your processor? i have a ryzen 3 1200 cpu and i dont plan to overclock it beyond 3.8ghz. i have seen a lot of oc guides and most of them overclock ram as well. i have an 8gb ddr4 2400 mhz kingston memory which does not have fancy heat spreader to keep it cool, so i was thinking to avoid overclocking the memory. Is it possible to avoid ram oc or is it necessary to do it if i am overclocking my ryzen?

Hey there everyone. A bit of background before I get into the main section of this post. I've had the same couple of 60Hz, TN/1080P, Dell office monitors since 2013 and they've served me great. Now, I'm a video editor and all around gamer. So these two monitors have seen a lot of use for a wide variety of situations but it's never crossed my mind to upgrade my monitors since the couple I've had for years now work great. Though, a few days ago I was thinking what I could perhaps get myself as a late Christmas present. As I've worked everyday during the holiday period, trying to earn a decent amount of money before I get back to University this month. Although I have a powerful enough computer, the thought of upgrading my monitors never crossed my mind (until it did). So I was quite excited to see what information I could find online and was soon overwhelmed with the amount of brands and different types of monitors one could get. Mind you, I've never experienced anything above 1080P and at 60Hz with a TN panel. So, 4K and all that other jazz looked quite compelling to me. After watching numerous video reviews, reading tons of articles and so on. Yesterday night, I decided to order these two monitors here: The Acer Predator XB271HU, a 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor that supports 165Hz and NVIDIA's G-SYNC technology and the Acer Predator XB271HK, which is a 3840 x 2160 monitor that is also IPS and supports NVIDIA G-SYNC, though only supports 60Hz (which isn't a problem since this monitor will be for content creation/editing). To me, these two monitors are perfect. 1440 is a nice middle ground between 1080 and 2160, so it won't be too crazy to game with but will also be a nice upgrade. Also, the fact that I will be able to, for the first time, see what refresh rates higher than 60Hz are like is awesome. Then with the 2160 monitor, I can only imagine what that would be like when it comes to editing video and so on. The extra real estate should be fantastic and a big help to me. BUT. I'm a bit worried with the smaller things. I've been reading online that with IPS panels, people can experience IPS glow, backlight bleed, dead pixels and so on. Now these are some of the problems that could occur but am I being silly in worrying about these things a bit too much? It's weird because the two monitors I have right now are, to be honest, a bit crap and a bit vanilla but I've never had a problem with dodgy lighting or dead pixels. Are these issues common when you buy a new monitor? So, yeah. Thanks for reading my long post. I hope this hasn't been too much of a silly read! Thanks.

Hello, just built my new system Ryzen 3 1300x Biostar B350GTN G.Skill Aegis 3000mhz 16cas RX 580 4gb So I boot it up and it kept crashing, eventually I figured it out, my ram was somewhat incompatible with my mobo or something and eventually I downclocked it to 2133 at 16cas and 1.20voltage. I want to try and up the overclock but I don't know the "proper" way of doing it. So far I know of only 3 variables which is timings, voltage and clockspeed. Any other things I need to overclock my ram succesfully? Is there a calculator or something to help me out with this? I tried 2666mhz on 1.35v but it kept blue screening me. Would appreciate any help.

I’m looking to build a gaming pc for 1080p running a minimum of 60fps in games like battlefield 1, call of duty, etc. is the 1500x going to bottleneck a gpu like the gtx 1060? I’m new to pc building and want to make sure I get the right parts. Thanks!

Hello everyone! I am planing on doing a water cooling loop for my computer (CPU + Maybe RAM, Excluding GPU). I used the EK loop configurator to create the loop but I would like to see if their are any better and or cheaper loop. My current specs are: Motherboard - Asus Z170 Pro Gaming/Aura CPU - Intel i5 6600K Case - NZXT S340 Elite Other: GPU - GTX 1070 Founders Edition And here is what EK would like me to get: EK-Vardar EVO 120ER Black (2200rpm) EK-CoolStream SE 240 (Slim Dual) EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 RGB PWM (incl. sl. pump) EK-Supremacy EVO - Nickel EK-RAM Monarch X4 - Nickel EK-RAM Monarch Module - Black (2pcs) EK-HD Tube 10/12mm 500mm (2 pcs) EK-HDC Fitting 12mm G1/4 - Black EK-ATX Bridging Plug (24 pin) EK-HD Tube D.I.Y. Kit 10&12mm The total cost of that would be over $500. So is their any same quality of a different brand that would be able to lower the cost? Also is there any things I should watch out for? Things I should not get/buy? This will be my first build and I would like to do hardline because I have a lot of time and would like to make it look nice. I would also like not to pay over $300 but if its a couple $'s over that's fine. Thanks for all the help! - A_Softchair

Hi there LTT land I'm trying to decide if I should OC my PC which is by no means weak for my needs, but sometimes I would like a bit more OOMPH from it when playing some games, was easily capable to play some games on ultra just after I bought it but since some upgrades and such crap it cant on default settings at least. I am by no means computer savvy enough that I can do this on my own, I'm to ADHD and visually oriented to go through walls of text and pro jargon about these things. So I'm kinda stuck with asking for help from total strangers which have a bit of time to help out a noob to OC his PC. I have tried to start on my own Downloaded MSI afterburner and Kombuster, TechPowerUp & had Speccy since forever. I hope the Screenshot is enough info on the PC to be able to give me some advice to start with. like what to do on these testing thingies to advance and so on and so forth Regards Goodmann P.S. ADHD made me open 3 windows while making this small post since it looked like something I wanted to check out. . . . OOOOHHHH is that a squirrel? Runs of for the fourth window P.S.S. So I was googling back and forth since I'm impatient as hell and nobody replies anyways and found A POST asking basically the same as I am, seems to have the same Mobo and CPU if I'm not mistaken. Is the conclusion that some of those replying correct? Is it not advisable to OC this mobo at all? I really would like to know. . .

I'm not very tech-savvy but I am trying to update graphics card but not sure what graphics card will be able to be supported by my motherboard/power supply. My power supply at the moment is an ATX 400W Switching Power Supply. My motherboard is a Gigabyte B85M-D3V Motherboard, DDR3, M-ATX. I am trying to upgrade to an Evga Geforce Gtx 1060 Gaming, 03G-P4-5160-Kr, 3Gb Gddr5. Would that be possible or will I have to upgrade other parts of my computer?

Hello, i have noticed how big cancer is the P400S' front panel with only very smol intakes, so i want to mod it. I am really bad at drawing (and basically everything involving arts & crafts), so i made some basic designs using paint. I would put some kind of metal or plastic mesh in the holes (hotglue it from the inside). I dont need the fans to be seen through, just to give them more air. If you have any design suggestion please tell me, also i am curious what tools to use to do such modding mumbo jumbo.

I'm just wondering what is safe or average OC in both core and memory clock speeds for a GTX 1080 (wondering if a boost in 220 core and 120 memory clock are safe) (and what is the average/ in the most case people would overclock to what number) many thanks MSI 1080 Duke

Hey all. Been watching Linus for a few weeks now and since he and a few of his Tube friends have motivated me to build my first rig, I thought I would join the forum. To put things in perspective for you, I just turned 41 and have become disabled. I used to be the outdoors guy, mountain climbing (for my honeymoon even), mountain biking, hunting, backpacking, hiking, ranching and homesteading, and building and wheeling 4x4 trucks. I can no longer do any of those things, and it is unlikely I ever will again. Therefore, I need a new hobby to wile away my time sitting around. Looks like computers have become the new thing for me. My build will be slow, I think, due to medical and medicine reasons. I just can't do much at one time and I certainly can't do it quickly. I have three items left to get for my first unit. I need a GPU and two more exhaust fans. I do not plan to do any crazy over clocking so no AIO for now. If there is any interest from yall, I could update my build progress as it goes along. In my past truck/offroad forums, pics and updates were dang near mandatory, so I am used to that. Looking forward to learning from yall! Also, is there a section solely for discussion of the advertisers on LTT? Cause I checked out Ting and my bill would have been around $400usd! I'm not knocking them, I just had a case of some serious lols.

Hello dears, I have a GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Windforce: https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N970WF3OC-4GD-rev-10-11#sp Here it says:Memory clock 7Gbs I just used Open Hardware Monitor in order to check the temperature (I had some temperature problems, I fixed them with a new case fan - those are the results after 5 hours of PUBG). My concern is, in OHM it says GPU Memory 3505 which is half what OC GURU is displaying Memory Clock 7010. This is not about the VRAM as you can see in the Data entry from OHM it says GPU Memory Total 4096MB. Screenshot attached. Sorry to post here, but... Yes, I tried to google it, but the results are about the 3.5gb VRAM instead of 4gb VRAM on GTX 970. Please, if I miss understood something or called the terms in a wrong way, just tell me! I'm here to learn!

Hey all, I am brand new to the modding world and I am actually still collecting some key tools to do some work with metal, tubing, and wiring. I was wondering if anyone could point me towards a modding forum and if you guys could share where you get your ideas for modding from? I have some ideas of my own but, currently they are a little overly ambitious and I am hoping for some ideas for newbie projects. Also if you have time or just want someone to, I guess kind of mentor, shoot me a message I can almost guarantee you I will have plenty of questions about your style of modding and other such things! Thanks for any tips and tricks in advance!

Hey all, I'm planning on building a new computer for personal use using old server gear (LGA2011), but I have a few questions. I want to use an HP Z420 gen 1 but a version2 E5-2680v2 CPU. Is that possible? Also, Is HPs Z420 board standard ATX Size or no? Can I update the bios to get the chip to work? Finally, any suggestions on commercial used systems (i.e. Dell T3600)?
