I have an asus rog crosshair v formula z mb which does not support msata or m.2 drives. But i would like the speeds of msata and or m.2 drives. I have found some cards out there such as the one from SYBA, but the amazon reviews show that it will max out at about 700mbs, which is not close at all to the speed of pci-e x4 2.0. Some of these cards offer multiply msata slots thus suggesting raid, but to use the full potential I need a controller that can handle that speed any suggestions to my problem? At the moment i have an ssd for win8.1 and bf4, Note: looks don't matter performance does, and cost is a decent concern of mine, thanks. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KKO6N98/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687602&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00KRFGZWA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1AZRWA1S6CMD8W4KZY6W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816113003 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815651002

I currently have 2 SSDs that I want to install, one is a 2.5" Kingston 240 GB SSD. The other is one I received from a friend, it is 1.8" 128 GB and MicroSATA. Based on the label it appears to have been manufactured by Lenovo. I do have a MSATA to SATA adapter. Which drive do I boot off of and which drive do I run programs off of? I also have a 1 TB 5400 HDD that has been my boot drive for almost a year.

Hi guys, I'm Ribal and I am a new member in this forum so I'm kind of lost here -hopefully this post is in the right place- I was customizing a gaming laptop on xoticpc.com when I noticed that they give you three different choices for the storage unit which are mSATA SSD, SATA SSD and the regular HDD. I know enough about the SATA SSD and HDD but I have very few information about mSATA SSD, so if you guys can help me out and tell me what are the differences between mSATA SSD and SATA SSD. Also which is best and more reliable to be used as a main storage unit. Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone! So I recently got an Acer Aspire v7-582pg ultrabook and yesterday I cloned my OS on an 830 EVO and replaced the former HDD with it. Everything worked out well and I'm now enjoying the performance of the SSD. But I noticed inside there was an mSATA slot and a 24GB Kingston SSD in it which was used as cache. But I don't see the drive in my devices menu... But only for instance in my Samsung Magician software. It got me wondering if there's a way I could use this SSD as extra storage since it has no performance gain anymore.. Like formating it and seeing at as an extra drive. Maybe swapping it out for a higher capacity one down the road to get extra storage? How would I get to formating it? Thanks for any replies in advance!

So I've been looking at getting a good laptop to match my desktop (I can't stand using my 6-year-old super-basic Compaq Presario CQ61 when I'm away from the desktop). I need it for 3D rendering (on the side, not professionally), gaming, creating games (with Unity/UE4), and music production (in FL Studio). For the most part, I'm pretty firm in the following aspects: The laptop MUST have a SSD to boot from (mSATA or otherwise, I can't stand HDD load times anymore since I switched for my desktop). I need nothing lower than a GTX 860M graphics card. My budget is extremely tight so I'm not going to pay more than $1100 (final price). Shooting for the sweet-spot here. This has obviously greatly limited my selection, however I have found two options from cyberpowerpc.com that meet my needs at the price I'm looking for. The only difference between the two, however, is the mSATA SSD that each has. The full specs are included below:

Greetings everyone, I've 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive for year and it's pretty amazing. I wanted something in larger size but the price is extereme and performence is bad. I've seen Angelbird SSD2go Pocket - Extremely Portable SSD and I start thinking that I can buy something like this. So I decide to make it smaller than SSD2go for my travel needs. So I used external Sabrent USB 3.0 mSATA and Samsung 840 EVO 500GB. Performence is bad on this mSATA to USB 3.0 but I also count in it bottleneck - mSATA III 6Gb -> USB 3.0 5Gb. For me it¨s small (5×10×1 cm) 500GB fast external memory/SSD for travel. What is your opinion, would you buy something like this or it's overkill?

Through the forum I've figured out that I can replace my notebooks ssd. (mSata 128gb running raid-0 on a single drive) I've bench-marked it and have found that I can't find any other ssd that comes close to touching these scores. I want a 256gb with these speeds. Is it possible?

Helo there.i am brand new in this forum, but i already know that if i don't find answers here, i will nevere found out what the heck is going on.... my problem is simple to describe but dificult to solve. recently i bought an adapter to connect my msata ssd to a pci-e x16. the problem is that the system after booting up stucks on the vga test (motherboard led), and other two leds are also opens on my EAH5970 vga card (D19 and D21). mb and vga are Asus products and works perfectly. check out the photo i just upload just in case of need. p.s. in the same adapter i have already put a wifi-bluetooth card and after installing the drivers wifi was working perfect. i have another problem here with the bluetooth but i will prefer to solve it later.. thanks anw! love you guys!

Can anyone recommend a good motherboard with an mSATA slot for an mSATA basic 1.8 SSD. I've looked at the Asus Z87 WS, but it's rather expensive and has features I wouldn't use. Are there any Z87 boards with 2 mSATA slots? Thanks in advance

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1fzkFoS Amazon: http://geni.us/vmJYaq mSATA SSDs are basically the same as regular SSDs these days. Early on performance kinda sucked compared to 2.5" drives, but newer controllers have made the difference much smaller to the point where now you can truly get great performance in an mSATA form factor. With that said, the reason for choosing SATA vs mSATA rarely has to do with performance, but rather has more to do with what standard is supported by your PC.

Hey guys, if anyone knows of any mSata SSD's that they are sure work in a Raid array, could you refer me to them? And if anyone knows specifically if the Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series mSata SSD's work, an answer would be greatly appreciated for that too. Thanks.

Hey there internet! Title sums it up but for more detail here's what I'm interested in finding out. I'm looking at going next gen with all the DDR4 and suped-up Haswell-E processors and the crazy 2011-3 socket mobos, and on one of these mobo's something caught my attention...something I haden't heard of. mSATA (or as the mobo manufacturer calls it on this board Ultra M.2) So this got me thinking, it's got some crazy specs on it like 32Gb/s (I could be wrong and have misinterpreted it) vs the 6Gb/s on SATAIII, so should I spend the extra $10 and instead of getting a SATA SSD get an mSATA SSD instead? Since I'm extremely new to this whole mSATA thing, I'm convinced that I'm interpreting something wrong. SO, whats the big difference between the two? Apart from the obvious like physical stuff, I mean specwise and stuff like that. Should I get an mSATA SSD or a SATA SSD? Specific parts I'm looking at are: The Mobo - ASRock X99 Extreme 6 SATA SSD - Samsung 840 EVO Series 250GB SSD mSATA SSD - Samsung 840 VO Series 250GB mSATA Thanks for all your help internet! <3

This seems like a really obvious thing but I don't know much about it. Would it be possible to set up an mSATA SSD as a cache drive?

Hello guys! I have a quick question, my friend's dad gave me a 256gb mSATA SSD for free and I never knew these existed till today. What are they used for? How do they compare to normal SSD's? Thanks in advance!

Samsung claims an "industry first" as it shrinks it awesomely popular 840 EVO ssd's to an mSATA form factor. The largest drive will come in a 1TB capacity, with 500GB, 250GB, and 120GB versions also available. It looks like chip stacking was used to create such large capacities. Samsung claims 540MBps Read and 520MBps Write speeds. It will be made available globally starting this month, so look out for them! This will be amazing for slim notebooks that don't have full-size sata ports to accommodate large capacity ssd's! Source: http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/?p=31060

After a batch of systems with mSATA drives I have found a list of pro's and con's: Pros (first as always) * Small size, meaning it takes less space in your rig * No cables to clutter your case * Better performance (in theory at least) Cons * Installation/Removal can be a pain in the rear if their slots are covered by PCIe cards, like a wide two slot video card * Tiny screws used to mount them can fall during install/removal and fall in the worst spots * When having issues with them you can't just plug them into another system/port (assuming you only have one) * Need to buy an additional mSATA or M.2 converter to mount them outside the system's provided ports for those devices. Obviously, I'm in the middle of a debug session with an mSATA drive and partially hating having gotten them at the moment, I need the converter to more easily test/debug.

Hey LTT, Im in the market for a new laptop and I've seen that linus has a dell XPS 12, This has already popped up on my radar with its quite good reviews and being a well regarded convertible. One thing I'm really looking forward to is being able to swap out the mSATA SSD. Im a real storage beast on my laptops since i use them for work and I've already filled up the 500gb SSD in my current laptop. Im thinking of putting a 1TB samsung mSATA in it. Basically, all I'm wondering is, is there any feedback from actual long term users?

I have a Lenovo y570 with a 750 GB HDD and a 32Gb mSata SSD (used for caching - not sure how much that works) I am thinking of getting a new msata, so that I can install the OS on and the main programs I can get a: 120GB mSata (cheaper solution) it will be only for OS and some applications 240GB Sata (more expensive) it will allow me to have OS and a few games/media files (will get a sata-to-usb adaptor and use my current HDD as external) 240GB mSata (more expensive (not my much)) it will allow me to have OS and quite some games (media files on HDD) (much more convenient) I was tilting towards 240GB mSata SSD, as I was thinking that Ι can have it for my next laptop as well (in 2-3 years maybe). However, with M.2 coming along will that be an option in a couple of years? another solution is to remove the optical drive and get an SSD in there that I can definitely move to my next build

I've never personally worked with an mSATA drive before, so I've come to all of you for answers. I have a classmate who wants to add an mSATA drive to their laptop, and use it as a boot drive. Are their any tricks to using an mSATA drive as a boot drive, or any tricks to using one overall? This classmate already has an Adata mSATA drive, but I'd like to personally upgrade my latop later on with 2, Samsung 840 Evo mSATA drives, and I'd love to know what issues to expect.

Hey! i just got my new MSI GS70 Stealth Pro and i want to install a third ssd, as it only came with two pre-installed. I've got my eye on a Samsung 840 mSata 500, but i've seem some people saying this laptop supports the M.2 standard as long as its still using sata 3.0, has anybody here got any experience on the subject? I might just buy another identical 128 gig and put it in raid with the other two though, i think they're toshiba or something, if anybody here knows the exact model that would also be very helpful. First post here, not sure if i should have posted this somewhere else on the forum. I'm hoping you can help me out.

While looking at the underside of my laptop (Lenovo Y500) I noticed that there may in fact be a second connector for an Msata ssd. Although the pins match correctly and the size is similar there is no physical connector soldered onto the motherboard of the laptop. Why would Lenovo leave out the option to have dual msata ssd. Also while looking at the y400 and other y500 models i noticed that infact that space was filled except by the wifi module and the place where the wifi module went did not exist. Please tell me what you think.
