Hey guys, I was shopping around on the NCIX site for a new laptop, also looked at ORIGIN PC (too expensive though), and Dell (well, the graphics section could use a little improvement). I was looking at a G75-RH71 (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=77456&vpn=G75VX-RH71-CA&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1021), I was just about to bite the bullet and buy it, but then I realized it has a 5200 mAh battery... and no optimus technology. I go to school about 6 hours a day and it's going to be on Wifi that entire time. I also do a little video editing, e-mails, and such at school, so performance is a must, Fast boot time is also a must (I heard 12 seconds on this laptop, but I can't seem to confirm it). What I need: Performance (raw agility, and being able to handle video editing, picture editing, and playing games in my spare time (sure...)) Speed (boot time, responsiveness, shutdown time) Good battery Life preferably not an intense price tag (i'm flexable in this, but i'm guessing that somewhere in the $1500 is going to be hitting the limits) Durable (something that's not going to suddenly fall apart like my HP Compaq 6510b, and it's gotta last until i'm through University (so 4 years starting in 2014?)) What i'd like: I'm a pretty big Nvidia fanboy, but i'd be willing to buy an ATI based laptop if the price is right, so a Geforce or Quadro card would be preferred It would be great to have an intel processor as well, preferably a Corei7 but a Corei5 could be a possible step down if there's a good enough budget difference. Full HD screen would be nice, but is totally not necessary, especially if the laptop is <15" a non-individual key keyboard, (is it called chiclet, don't remember) Hopefully you guys can help me find the perfect laptop, or at least point me in the right direction! Thanks, Calvin

Hello, I have been struggling with a decision which is where to get a Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 or a AKG K-701, the primary use of which will be gaming 70% (all genre of games), music 20% (mainly dubstep, alternative modern rock and some pop) and films 10%. I will be purchasing these headphones with the Asus Xonar DGX and a headphone amp which I am not sure about yet. My priorities for these headphones will be an immersive gaming experience (I play all games from RPG's to FPS') so good bass is a must, however I also want to play competitively which will require good positional audio, but I still want an immersive experience>positional audio however only by a bit, keep in mind that price is not a problem with these 2 headphones, however if you suggest anything new make sure it's in the range if ~£150 I have a couple of questions: 1) Is the bass really that bad on the AKG 701's? 2) Is the DT990's mids really that bad as I have heard? 3) What amp should I get £80 max (I know wrong forum but need more opinions anyway ) 4) Is bass that important for immersion in the game (such as Skyrim, BF3 etc.)? 5) What headphones do you think will be the most immersive in games and the music I listen to? 6) Is the AD700's bass and mid bass really that bad (don't forget I want immersion and I listen to music and watch movies, not just game competitively) 7) What do you think would be the best out of the three for my uses? (if you have more suggestions I have a budget of about £150 - I live in the UK).

Disney plans array of Star Wars spin-off movies in between sequel films ............................. Yea i don't know how i feel about this. I liked the 1st cartoon series in between episodes 2 and 3, but a full on movie ehhh. I guess it could be cool if they did it right but the fact that they are throwing out the expanded universe has me worried. How do you guys feel about this? Is it a good idea? Do you even like Star Wars? Should they have left it alone?

First off, this is my first post WOOT! I usually don't go around to sites asking questions but I seem to be stuck on something that I think people here would be better suited for answering. You see I am looking for the perfect monitor, which I know doesn't exist so I am trying to find the closest one to perfection. However I haven't been able to find anything remotely close to this (without having to spend over 5 grand). I am looking to upgrade along side my other monitor which is a graphics tablet (which powerdvd says I should get rid of, just no powerdvd... no... analogue is better than hdmi anyways). I do quite a bit of graphics, ilistration and video editing. I mainly do animation though, but that doesn't mean I want to go to a 30hz monitor (I don't really like 60hz all that much either but I can at least live with that). I do also play quite a few games, but that isn't my proirity and I'd prefer colour accuracy, and colour range over response times. So to put it simply I am looking for a monitor to watch and produce movies on. This has me considering a 4k monitor, but ips monitors in this range are quite the wallet cleaners. I've looked at many different monitors all the way from the Catleap series by Yamakasi, yiynova monitors (which is the brand of my graphics tablet), NEC and even dell's ultrasharp lineup. Non seems to be what I am looking for, there's something that just seems like a deal breaker on pretty much all models I see. Either they have too much ghosting, aren't sharp enough, too low of a resolution vs size, too poor colour representation or just faulty design and bad customer support makes me weary trying to decide. Quite literally I spend hours every week searching and comparing monitors (I spent about 4 - 5 hours ish tonight alone ) It makes it harder when you can't see the monitors in person, but even when I wen't down to tigerdirect the monitors they had on display looked horrible, (once again for the same reasons, too blury, no good colours, poor pixel density etc. etc...). My preferences for a monitor: (In order as highest priority to lowest) Price range $0(HA I wish)-$1000 Cad Must have good Pixel density (resolution vs size), I do not wan't to be able to see the individual pixels from where I sit (about 1-3 feet away). Must have good Colour representation. IPS panel or equivulant, tn panels have horrible viewing angles and bad colours. Must be sharp, nothing blurry. Must not have (noticable) ghosting (but response times don't necessarily have to be extreamly quick). I don't care about size, however the size of the unit changes how much I care about resolution (goes back to the pixel density) but I'd prefer to have something around 20 - 30" at 1440 (BARE MININUM) or higher. I DO NOT like anti glare, it ruins colour, softens image, defeating the whole purpose of the monitor. Must be a least 60hz or higher. I've had the best luck with tempered glass instead of plastic surfaces. The less anti glare the better. No dead pixels. They bug me a lot. I do like the opiton of a portrait and landscape swivel but it's not my main concern. Must have DVI or DisplayPort, I only use HDMI for mobile devices and I still hate it for that. However if need be I could use VGA with a high quality active converter. I don't know if anyone else is having the same issue or if it's just a side effect/curse cause by my pickyness and above average eye sight combined. Anyways if you made it through the end of this post you deserve an award or something. Please respond if you have a suggestion. Thank-you, Cooldude234.

Hi guys, I figured this was too cool of a news item to not post. So in Off-Topic it goes. Here is an article talking about it. it goes. Basically, they are making more movies based on the Fantastic Beasts books that J.K. Rowling wrote to flesh out the creatures that inhabit the wizarding world. I imagine it will be short films or something featuring each creature. I read the book and enjoyed it. And when I said "I read the book." I mean Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was a book aside from the Harry Potter books that my library had. Quote from the article above: Anyway, yeah. Pretty cool. I am looking forward to it.

Hello, I'm quite a serious gamer and try to avoid as much latency and fps drops as I can so is it possible to use a $25 GPU dedicated to my TV in a PCI slot along side my dedicated gaming GPU in a PCI-E slot. Will I come across any problems and if anyone knows a cheaper way that doesn't decrease picture quality or latency or fps drops then please share. Edit : I game on a monitor and watch films and videos on my TV but I'm sick of swapping the HDMI lead around

I wish there was a movie forum on here but nobody wants to listen to little old me. Anyways, I just got the 3D Blu-Ray of Iron Man 3 and if you haven't seen it, you should. Without giving away any spoilers, my favorite part was when the army of Iron Man suits showed up and Brian Tyler's music (MW3 music director) started playing.

Hello everybody! I recently watched the movie "Only God Forgives". Wow. Very umm err, different I guess is what you have to say. I didn't not like it, but it is freaking weird. I feel like people are looking at it at the incorrect point-of-view though. Many people are trying to view it as a traditional movie with a defined plot and sequenced events with clear connections. But its ambiguity makes it a sort of poem-movie hybrid. I think if people looked at it from a different perspective they would actually enjoy it. I found it to be similar to the movie Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt. Very oddly done, very reliant on the cinematography, very short, but at the same time it delivers its message with sledge-hammer force if you understood the movie.

Netflix has agreed a deal with Comcast, the biggest internet service provider in the US, that will see its videos streamed faster and more smoothly. The multi-year deal will see Netflix servers connected directly to Comcast's network, removing third parties that slow down streaming speeds. However, Comcast said Netflix would not get "preferential network treatment". The terms of the deal, including whether Netflix was paying for it, were not disclosed by the firms. "The companies have established a more direct connection between Netflix and Comcast, similar to other networks, that's already delivering an even better user experience to consumers, while also allowing for future growth in Netflix traffic," Comcast said in a statement. The move comes just days after Comcast confirmed a deal to acquire Time Warner Cable for about $45bn (£27bn). According to some estimates, the combined company would control more than one-third of the US high-speed internet market. Netflix, a TV and movie streaming service, has 44 million subscribers - majority of them in the US. The deal may see the firm enter similar deals, known as interconnect agreements, with other internet service providers across the country. Ok so I already have the BenQ XL2420TE and I am looking to get a second monitor. The reason being is that while the BenQ is stellar for what it is the color could be better. I am looking for a monitor that will have little to no ghost and great color. I will be using this monitor for movies/bluray and games like Skyrim. The BenQ monitor is solely for FPS. Any suggestions? Also I would like to keep the cost below $300 if possible.

I need it only for 1. Browsing 2. Watching movies/videos 3. Very rarely I work on excel/word that's all and nothing else I prefer Lenovo but anything good is fine. I have Win 7 license or I can use Ubuntu. I don't need Windows installed Laptop. As of now I have shortlisted two. 1. Lenovo Essential series - B490 - 403$ after conversion to USD 2. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge series - E530 - 470$ after conversion to USD. There was a great offer but I missed it. Someone else bought it before I could. Hope that seller posts the offer again. Thank you very much.

I don't know if anyone else has been noticing this as of late or I am just being nit picky but has anyone else noticed that movie trailers today play for a 30 second spot and tell you about all the awards its being nominated for but by the end of the trailer you have NO IDEA what the movie is even about. It just seems that they spend that time to pat themselves on the back (or other anatomical parts) on how great they are. Instead of spending that time to show me why I should spend my hard earned money (considering that seeing a movie in theater can be around 50 dollars when you include tickets, concessions etc) on a film I would probably be very interested in seeing you waste my time by telling me how great the indie film student, whose parents could not be more pissed off by what education they paid for. I don't care that your movie was nominated for something at the sheboygan film festival, what the hell is your movie about!? Also, why should be give you credit for being nominated for something, by that logic I should be able to put Harvard on my resume because I submitted an application and was "considered" but was not accepted. Anyway, I am sorry to waste your time with this nonsense it's just something that was chapping my ass so had to put that out there. Take care LTT members.

I am looking to get a news pair of headphones (not headset!). My budget right now is about $120 max or somewhere near that. right now i have a crap headset (turtle beach x12) that i use for gaming and music on my PC. the reasons i hate my current headset are: -people can hear what i am listening to on skype even when its muted -comfort is terrible. it starts hurting my ears after 20 minutes -not good sound quality at all and makes buzzing noise when volume is moderately high -cheap feeling right now i don't have any amp or sound card and wondering if i really need one to get great audio out of my future headphones. The type of music i listen to is popish rap, not the kind with overwhelming bass but i still want the bass to be decent. my priorities for the headphones are below: 1. comfort 2. sound quality 3 good for gaming 4. decent looking is a plus but i don't need it also i am using my logitech c910 web cam mic right now and my friends are complaining about my mx reds bing too loud and was thinking bout getting a $5 zalman clip on. thanks
